Napa Cabbage and Short Rib Soup - loved this meal sooo much

I continue to vehemently love and support SYTK Sullungtang. My boyfriend and I are regulars here now and we have never had a bad experience here. We crave their hearty soups often, and are saddened whenever we see the restaurant empty because we think they deserve way more business. I want to give a shout out for the service we receive here. Our ban chan bowls are never empty, they're constantly and generously refilled. The barley tea is warm and comforting. The restaurant itself is quiet and cozy. We are treated with such care and kindness by our waitress, it really feels like eating at your grandmother's house again. The parking is easy and free, the service is SO kind and attentive, the ban chan offerings are fresh and delicious, and the portions and flavor of the soups we order are second to none. I will say it again and again, SYTK is so much better than Hanbat in every category: price, parking, portion, and taste. I will probably never frequent Hanbat ever again in my love in favor of coming to SYTK instead. Love love love SYTK and will continue to come back and support this small business for years to come.

i dont usually crave soupy meals but this place was delicious! the broth was light but very flavorful and the ribs were satisfying. the banchan was delicious too. it was a bit cold in the restaurant but it was a hot day and we were sitting under the fan so that could be why. will return in the future!

Good quality soup with the best customer service. We ordered beef bone soup with mixed ox bone soup. We thought "mixed" meant combination of different cuts of meat with oxtail. But it's actually a mixture of tripe, slice beef, intestine, and possibly beef tongue. Flavor was good but next time i will stick with my beef ribs soup! Also... their side dishes were so goood tooo

This spot is underrated! Warm and comforting soup on a cold day & a parking lot in Ktown?!! I went on a Friday and there was only a few people eating during lunch. The soup is perfect if you are missing that homemade korean food. The banchan was great especially the Kkakdugi! Service was amazing, they started with providing us warm Barley tea. We got refills on banchan and they were happy to do so. I would come back to try more things soon!

Solid spot for some hot piping soup. Got the sullingtang and short rib soup. The food came fast and the servers checked up on us to make sure we were doing ok and if we wanted more side dishes. The portion of the short ribs was surprisingly a lot compared to myung ga. Would definitely come back again!

A day in LA with my mom and sister. Mom hasn't had Korean food in a while, and what better spot to treat her than in the heart of Koreatown? Parking: Parking in LA sucks a--, but thankfully they have a small private lot AND it's free! Ambiance/Environment: It's extremely small inside with about nine tables. No outdoor seating. Very casual spot. Clean tables, chairs, and floors. There's consistent customers coming in n out. They had a lunch rush around 12-14:00. Service: We were greeted and seated immediately once we entered. Each worker was courteous, quick, & efficient. They mainly speak Korean with limited English. Foods: 1) Short Rib Soup - Exactly as described. They were not shy with the short ribs. The soup was very flavorful and clean. It was also served with clear noodles that was cooked well. 2) Sogogi Suyuk - This is served with tender beef slices and ox knee bone at the center. The beef slices were filling, and the soup was hearty. The broth was rich and milky. One of the workers taught me to eat the beef slices by rolling it up with the chive salad and dipping it in the sauce. Wow, I'm so thankful she showed me this. 3) Special Haejanguk - "Bold and hearty Korean hangover soup." This included generous cuts of beef tripe and flavorful beef intestines. The soup was slightly spicy with a nice kick. The tripe and intestines tasted as expected. We ate this with rice and banchan. 4) Banchan - They offer a variety of banchan! Pricing: This is LA, so the prices didn't shock me lol. Koreans don't mess around when it comes to their soup and banchan. We absolutely enjoyed everything!

The owners + the food are equally comforting. The Haejang-guk is sooooooo good! Super tender tripe and amazingly flavorful! I will be coming back for this specific dish. If you like menudo, you'll like this soup. Try it plsss!

There are many sullungtang joints in Ktown; Han Bat being the most famous. Personally, I think SYTK is way better for it has more choices and the quality is just as good, if not better. I especially love their radish kimchi. I could eat that all day. I'd always buy some to go whenever I come.

Spicy beef soup was incredible! Have been dreaming of it ever since. Had it after a long day and it hit the spot. The wait staff was very nice and helped me choose what to order. The restaurant is small but busy considering how late in the evening it was.

Came here for dinner and it's a no frills place. The place wasn't packed but it was all Korean grandparents which you know means that the food is legit and authentic. It was also super affordable. We both got the galbitang and the flavor was delicious. The only downside was the banchan. For some reason I didn't care for them this time. I usually love kimchi at Korean restaurants but for this one, it was just okay. I'll definitely be back for good Korean soup again.

No frills, straightforward kind service and good food. I had the ox bone soup and ordered one to go since it was so affordable due to the 5 year special pricing. They offer about five ish side dishes that can be refilled. The staff is quite attentive and saw when I finished a few and offered to refill it without my asking. Soup was piping hot, good portion and had enough meat and noodles to check every box for me. Will def return for either an early bird deal or one of their take out deals. Appreciate the free lot in front for easy access as well

We came here on a whim and left very impressed. Their sullungtang was perfect! I gulped every last drop. Their banchan were tasty. Service was great. They checked in on us a few times just to make sure we enough banchan. Unsure which one my husband got but he ate all of his too haha. He doesn't even like soup!! After reading some reviews, we will come back next time to try their galbitang. Is someone can tell us how to order sullungtang with short ribs, that would be helpful too haha.

Their bossam was also super delicious, even though it's pork belly, theirs didn't taste heavy or oily at all and had a very refreshing flavor. I enjoy how the ambiance is comfy and emulates a home vibe. The service is also amazing and they're very efficient with taking orders. If you go at peak dinner time on the weekends, expect a line. But I would say it moves pretty fast because they let you look at the menu and take your order while you're in line. Then when it's your turn to be seated they bring out your food fairly quickly. 100% recommend coming here to eat when you're in the area.

Me and friend started with drinks at the bar - I got the hwachae milk punch, a pretty pink sip! My friend got the espresso martini, their take made with cold brew soju, Korean coffee mix, and makgeolli. Both were fun, well-balanced ways to kick off the night. Their honey butter chips were pretty delectable - fresh-cut potato, fried until crunchy and airy, then drizzled with a honey butter glaze that channels those nostalgic honey butter chip snacks. The sauce was good but can definitely be a sweetness overload, so if you don't have a sweet tooth, I would avoid ordering. Got the pine nut cold noodles, which was refreshing on a summer day - white noodles in a chilled soy milk broth with pine nut. The pine flavor was pretty subtle, so if you're into that, definitely get this, but for me it was just okay. The pork jowl was delicious though - comes with chili crisp and garlic rice, and we ended up taking some home because we couldn't finish it all! Service was great - we sat at the bar and got to watch the bartender work and chat. Parking can be hit or miss; you can either park in the several garage structures around ktown or the small paid lot in the Danbi plaza, but we came on a Thursday night and it was still pretty busy. Overall, a 9/10 meal with good vibes, cute drinks, and delicious food. Already dreaming about trying the galbi next time I'm here!

We went for the DineLA menu. We had reservations and were immediately seated. Overall, the restaurant had a modern, relaxed vibe. Our server was very personable and helped me choose the Kimchi Mule, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The food started rolling out right away, beginning with the Honey Butter Potato Chips. They were good, but probably not something I would order again. Next came the kimchi watermelon and spicy sashimi noodles, and I was impressed with both. I had a hard time imagining what kimchi watermelon would taste like and was surprised by how much I liked it. The spicy sashimi noodles were the standout for me. I kept going back for another bite and would come back just for those. The Corn and Cheese Roll came out next along with the Pork Jowl. Both were good, although if I returned, I would probably try something different. Up until that point, everything had gone extremely well. The food came out at a good pace, people checked on us, our waters were refilled, and dishes were cleared almost as soon as we finished them. Then we waited. And waited some more. Our server kept apologizing and telling us, "The dessert is coming!" After at least 20 minutes, we started talking about simply leaving without it. I finally flagged down the host and asked if there was a problem in the kitchen because we had been waiting so long for the parfait. A few minutes later, he came back and explained that there was an issue involving the whipped cream. At that point I asked how much longer we were expected to wait. Eventually the parfait arrived, and I couldn't help thinking that we had waited close to half an hour for what amounted to a small dollop of whipped cream on top. To make matters worse, the dessert wasn't very good. We couldn't finish it. I left disappointed, especially because the rest of the meal had gone so well. I know the kitchen delay wasn't our server's fault, but I would have expected someone to proactively explain what was happening or offer us another dessert rather than leaving us sitting there wondering when--or if--it was coming.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

Even when we ordered the food, the server said "that's it?" as if she was offended that we didn't order more food (lower sales?) I'm not sure if we misunderstood her attitude but that's kind of how it felt like. The quality and size went down and it was just... not good. This used to be my #1 spot for cold noodles but our other fav place was closed today so we decided to come here. As you can see, the size of the cold noodles became smaller. Everything was packed in this small bowl which made it harder to eat. I think they changed the noodles they use because it wasn't doing anything texture wise. It used to be chewy and had a good buckwheat flavor. The broth tasted.. like water with a splash of bone broth. The quality of galbi was also a disappointing as I feel like it's became less and the meat was burnt with more fat/chewy bits. The leek pancake was ok but again, comparing it to my picture from January, it was bigger in size and more dough-y. Service was decent previously but it felt a bit cold today. Again, super bummed because we still love this place but I probably won't be ordering their combo again. You can see in my pictures how often we used to order the cold noodles from here and you can compare the quality.
