We came in with a huge party late at night. They told us right away they were short staffed but were going to help us and get us fed. I wouldn't even notice they were short staffed, our server was so attentive and went above and beyond getting 20 people all their food, milkshakes, pies, and sides. She made sure to bring around pots of coffee so we never ran out. My grilled fish and salmon was tasty and buttery. My wild berry pie was rich and warm. First, service was excellent in this new, clean, chain location. We were promptly greeted and seated on a Sunday morning. Our waitress was attentive throughout, exceptionally nice, and willing to work through the chaos that comes with ordering for a family. The food was cooked as desired and tasted good. It's hard to replicate 'home cooking' in a chain but I feel they tried. We traditionally go to another breakfast chain in Bellevue and I always feel they smoother items in oil, so much so that they taste the same...this is not the case at Carter Lake Perkins. The bakery had lots of options and depending on the day, they had specials. One consistent special was 'Buy 3 Bakery items, get 3 free'. I believe Sunday was 'Buy a pie, get another half price'. First off it was super freezing like you were still outside on the inside of the restaurant. Second the manager escorted us to a dirty table then didn't clean it fully so had ask for our table to be cleaned again by our waitress. Hello Covid-19 and influenza are rampant right now being clean place is still a thing right. Then we proceeded to tell our waitress how cold we were and we needed our table she acted like she didn't want to assist us at all, said "Oh sorry, it's not clean we just a rush of people". That in my opinion is no excuse for a dirty table and cleaning tables with a dirty cloth is gross. Then we asked for coffee and water from our waitress but ended up leaving because what can I say if the tables aren't clean in the front then how we trust the kitchen to be clean where they are cooking our food. However, it seems the quality is going downhill and today was enough for me to let yelp know about it. Today I showed up at 9pm with a friend for a late night meal. There were maybe 4 tables when I showed up, there was a family waiting for a table in the lobby. After a short wait finally someone appeared out of the kitchen and sat the family waiting, and then me and my friend. It quickly became obvious that she was the only person working the front. The restaurant was chilly and I was inclined to get some soup. My dining companion and I quickly decided what we wanted and placed our food and drink order but I was informed that there was no soup after 8pm. Bummer. But shortly after, we got our drinks....and we waited. Food came out about 15-20 minutes later. I'm a sucker for a good turkey dinner and I ordered it with broccoli. The turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes were good. The broccoli on the other hand was rotten. Brown spots on the cut of broccoli is usually not a good sign. Now, did I get a chance to speak with the server to correct this? No. I did not see our waitress for a drink refill or a table check at all. She spent most of her time in the kitchen. I did not see any other staff members my entire visit. Our drinks didn't even get refilled. After we finished our meal (except the broccoli) we went up front, waited to pay, and left. There is one in Lincoln and one in Norfolk which are both too out of the way for Sunday morning breakfast. Omelets, pancakes, (fluffy) waffles (crispy outside, fluffy inside) lots of Eggs Benedict options, crispy bacon , good juicy sausage, very good and crispy hashbrowns, good coffee. All excellent choices for breakfast, and very good service. They also do lunch but this is about breakfast. We were there on a Saturday morning. The servers looked like they liked their jobs and actually worked hard. Brought food out quick & hot. It's Perkins so they know what to do for breakfast and understand how to fry, over easy, sunny side up, scramble or poach an egg. They bring ketchup and they bring syrup with your meal, so no extra waiting when it's time to eat. They have skills. Breakfast for two, big breakfast, was about $30 with a muffin to go, before a good tip. When you pay your bill, at the counter, don't leave without a slice of pie or a muffin for later. . . Haven't been to a Perkins in years so it was kind of fun to stop in. It wasn't very crowded and our service was friendly and quick. Everything was so new and seemed very clean. They really do have a huge menu but I was stuck on breakfast so went with the eggs benedict. The hash browns that came with it were nice and crispy and the fruit was also good. My benedict was pretty good except the English muffin tasted very stale and was barely toasted. It offered no crunch which was a real turn off for eggs benedict. One of the downtown cafes decided to change their hours to a later open time and I knew this restaurant was 24 hours so this was the early morning breakfast spot located near the OMA airport, bordering Carter Lake territory. Parking was easy and upon arrival, it was very obvious they do take social distancing seriously with signs of cleaned tables and booths as well spacing everyone properly. The server was great from the start, getting coffee started quickly to taking the order accurately. Food came out very hot, quick, and precise. We were checked frequently by the server and the check arrived accurately within a minute of asking. After being seated it took quite awhile before someone came to get our drinks, and by that time we were already ready to order. The waiter was a space cadet and seemed to struggle with what we were requesting. Pot roast was really tasty and juicy. I got eggs and a waffle as well. They accidentally made one more egg than I asked for (which really I'm not complaining about) and the waffle came with butter on it although I asked for it plain. Overall the service was poor. Acknowledge your customers, even if you're unable to get to them right away. The food was good. Nothing crazy, but makes for a good stop and they have a lot of options!
