I totally agreed with the previous review that Jenny is excellent, so friendly,helpfully that I canceled my petsmart appointment and left my dog with Jenny for the grooming. I am glad that I went to Petco for a new leash to replace the broken one. Just walked into pet salon to check out the services and price they offered. Beside her pleasant manner, Jenny was listening to my cat acne problem, not like other store "never heard, you are crazy to make it up " attitude. About 2 months ago I went in to buy dog food; Purina to be exact. Bought the large bag and when I got it home it was infested with mealy moth webbing. Took it back to get another. But, I opened it first. It too was infested. Opened another, same thing. The third seemed to be ok. I discovered that it too was infested. Had to wash the dog food storage bin which has a screw on top because there were moths and larvae in it. When I first informed Petco employees of the problem, they couldn't do anything about the dog food. They kept it on the shelf and sold it to other customers. I will say that at least the store gave me no problem exchanging the product. But, the real problem is they kept contaminated food and didn't return it to Purina for replacement. I know this because the employees told me that they couldn't. My suggestion to all is if you are buying Purina open the bag before you leave the store. If anyone else had the same problem, please contact Purina and Petco store management. read more

My review is based on my experience with their grooming salon. I was in the area so stopped in to get my dogs' nails clip. It was our first visit there. I noticed that there were only 2 workers there, both grooming a dog. One of the dogs on the table had a line of blood that streamed down from its upper shoulder. You can tell that he got nicked or something. When I inquired about what happened to that dog, the groomer said it had a pimple that popped. Maybe so, but I have taken my dogs to grooming salons for 5 years now and have never seen a bleeding dog before. Plus, although it was not a lot of blood, it seems like a line of blood is a bit much for a popped pimple. These Petco groomers look rough and unhappy. They did not seem to want to be there. Their grooming salon appeared cramped and bleak. I decided that this was just not the place for my dogs so we just left. read more

We had called some independant groomer, none of which would groom a Chow! One offered, but would have to muzzle her first. My husband called and spoke with Shayna who loved Chows and she made sure to take good care of Lucy. Didn't have to muzzle her the whole time. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE, RUDE, UNTRUSTWORTHY GO TO PET CLUB @ 5625 Snell Ave San Jose, CA 95123. Better prices and friendly employees. Don't buy anything here if you might ever want to return it. Purchased a seat cover for my new car to protect it from my lab. I walked out and tried it in the parking lot only to find it was far too small. Obviously I wanted to return it. I was out of the store for five minutes and they made me jump through hoops just to get a refund. Daniel, likely some sort of assistant manager was very rude to me demanding my personal information. Mind you i had receipt and product in hand and I'd seen him 5 minutes ago. I know of no other store that treats you so poorly. Ended up writing down false information because the prick refused to process the refund otherwise. The return receipt says David, checker #9 so likely he is lying about his name as well. read more

This particular store has terrible managers with terrible people skills and they yell curse words at customers and there employees. I have numerous times witness Mike (manager) yell at one employee in particular I think her name is ona until she was in tears there should be some looking in to that guy. ona is the one and only person in that whole store that knows what she is talking about and the only person that really cares for the animals. she know by far more then everyone put together in this store. I have numerous times been at store and seen unacceptable conditions for these animals from a company that claims to care about the animals. I am really surprised legal action hasn't been taken due to the poor Conditions these animals are in. the worst of is the worm problem their fresh water fish are infected with. I could go on and on. My puppy just finished Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes with the trainer Emily and she was great! This is my first dog and I really appreciated Emily answering all my questions and reteaching me when necessary. It was clear she cares about the dogs and owners. She puts 100% effort into her classes and goes above and beyond when you have a specific request. I would highly recommend her if you are looking for a positive training class for your puppy. We plan on taking the adult classes at Petco once our puppy gets a bit older. Overall a great experience!! read more

As far as I am concerned, their fish section is amazing. Many Petco stores I have been to have lost their saltwater section but this one not only has one but does a great job maintaining it. They have an employee who I have encountered that not only knows their fish facts but is clearly working there because they enjoy aquatic life. read more

This review is for the grooming department, where should I begin. I had brought my dog to be bathed and the normal grooming. The appointment was at 12pm, and we arrived on time. They stated it may take a couple hours to 4 hours (4 hours, really? Even for an appointment) this seemed odd from the beginning. Well after 4+ hours, my dog still wasn't done, so basically he was locked up in a cage all this time! So what they did was rush wash my dog, which he was already agitated for being lock up for 4 hours. Didn't even cut my dogs nails, didn't even clean his ears and he wasn't even completely dry! Then had the nerve to me that my dog needed training (my dog completed advance dog training) and was top in his class. Plus when I finally got my dog back, he was throwing up soapy water, which probably means he was water boarded by the rude girl that looked very frustrated and was so frantic to get out of that torturing environment. I will never go back that grooming salon again, and trust me they are only able to handle small dogs. From what I have observed petco, the management should put up a sign that says we can only small dogs. read more

Needless to say, I won't be taking my Great Dane to get groomed there anymore. I went in on a weekday afternoon to get her nails clipped. They were incredibly busy, which was totally fine. They told me I could walk around the store and they'd call me over the intercom when it was time to collect my girl. When it was done, the girl handed me my dog, and told me "I don't know how you deal with her everyday". I was so shocked at what I heard, I didn't have a response. But how unprofessional can you be?! NO dog likes getting their nails trimmed, and she's a huge puppy. If YOU can't handle your job, then don't work there. Imagine if you picked your kid up from daycare and they told you that. Seriously, NEVER taking my dog there again. If she had that little patience for 15 minutes, I'd hate to leave my dog there for a couple hours to get groomed like I have before and wonder how she was being treated. I HATE PETCO!! Their groomers are TERRIBLE! I normally take my puppy to Petsmart where they do a good job. The only reason I decided to try Petco was because they had a photographer on site and I wanted pictures of my puppy. I made the appointment and I told the groomer to cut one inch off her hair (she's toy poodle and had about 2.5 inches). Since i had never been there, i didnt ask for a specific groomer. Some guy, named Jesse or Jason was going to groom my puppy. I told them I had a photo session for my puppy after the grooming. I came back and they literally shaved my puppy!!! I was so upset ! She didn't look like my dog. When I complained he said "I just followed instructions, it says here one inch all around" YES idiot! One inch off not shave her!! Needless to say, they ruined my experience and I did not take pictures of my puppy. On top of it all, he refused to discount anything on the crappy job he did!!! NEVER AGAIN will I shop there or take my puppy there! read more

Been here many times and continually disappoint me. Long waits for an appointment, 6 to 8 hrs to get my dog back even with an appointment. Yesterday, 7 hours again! Lousy haircut, didn't trim one dew claw, and didn't clean her ears, all of which I paid $65 for! In addition she has to be dragged into the place and that tells me volumes about the care there. Staff is friendly but that's just the usual friendly front. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes. In summary, I'll find another grooming place for my Dachsy child! read more

I have been getting my 25 pound dog groomed her for the past year and a half. I LOVED Jason! He was the best groomer I had used. However, he moved and I figured I would try the groomer he recommended. Bad choice! I dropped him off at 9am on a Saturday; while I was there they were taking phone calls and telling people they were taking walk-ins. When I asked how long it would take they told me between 4-6 hours. So that puts us at a pickup of between 1-3pm. At 4pm we still hadn't heard from them so we called. At that point we were told he should be done around 5. (And they still never called) That is a whole 8 hours! My poor dog was sitting in a crate for at least 6-7 hours while they took walk in customers. When someone makes an appointment they should have priority. The cut itself was not the best either. We paid $79 and 8 hours for an uneven cut with nicks on his bum. I do NOT recommend going there anymore. This petco lost out when they let Jason move to another petco in LA. read more

One of the worst dog groomers, ever. No experience. With no guidance, safety of my dog. And definitely no experience, even to be able , to touch a dog. Cant even do nails. When you the manager telling a inexperienced associate how to do them. While sitting on there,,but t. Thats no way to train. And definitely, no way to run, the store. And as an owner and you try to tell the groomer, what your dog goin to do, since my dog, does not like her feet touched. They dont listen. Also, when i went to go pay, for the service, i asked a question to the cashier, about the grooming service. They flat out said. I would not even bring my dogs here, to get groomed. What does that tell yah. And, with being in retail, 75% of my life. I never blame the person that is working. Unless its the manager. Cause i believe if you properly train your personal. And you take pride and ownership in what you do. It will reflect on others. Please, someone there, get on the ball. read more

store is in decent quality if you just want to buy stuff, but might be a good idea to avoid Vetco. i went to get my dog a rabies vaccine earlier this year. several months later i got him tested for the rabies titer test and the results came back negative for the vaccine working (no anti-bodies for the virus). this has set back my move by a few weeks as the location i am moving to needs these vaccines, yet i was sold a ineffective one. very disappointed in this and will likely avoid Vetco for all services. read more

I have had my pet groomed at this location before and thought the result would be the same. I was mistaken. The attitude of the manager (T. Richardson) was to have me pay again for the service that I did not receive. I ask for specific things to be done to my pet. The result was the hair was different lengths and not the way I wanted. I agreed to come in today to get the dog cut correctly and was told they do not do free cuts and were going to charge me again for the service. I ask for a copy of my original instructions and was told no I cannot have a copy. I also did not get my money back. While I understand nothing can be done when the hair is cut too short. I do not understand why the hair was not cut after I brought the dog back. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the company headquarters. I assume that from the attitude of the manager that business is good and they do not need my business. They are now going to get their wish as I will not be back to pay over $55 for a grooming service that was not completed and an attitude that says.... So What!!! read more

First - this is not about grooming. Bought my Granddaughter a guinea pig she had begged for on her birthday in September. Surprise! It gave birth to 2 babies two weeks later, obviously was preggo when purchased. Dilemma about what to do with additions. Petco didn't do this intentionally, however mistake was clearly made somewhere along the line while guinea pig was still in Petco's or their suppliers possession. Petco's first offer was to take the baby pigs and raise them. I wasn't quite comfortable with that, emotional attachment already formed, we are dealing with 3 little girls 10 & under, ripping the rodent family apart tearful event. Counter offered what I thought was fair contribution to resolve mistake and unexpected need for supplies, was Petco supplying my Granddaughter with another cage, so the genders could be separated and no more "mistakes" would come from this. So I wish to give credit to managers Larry and Jessica for seeing this through and phoning me today to say that a cage will be provided and I can pick it up. They listened! Even though it was not their first suggestion of resolution, they saw that making a frequent customer remain a continued customer (I have a dog and now guinea pigs) was a better choice. So I'm not left with a bad taste over a birthday present turn into the gift that keeps on giving! So just wanted to let y'all know there can be resolution when managers are willing to listen and they did. read more

The worst service ever. My brother give my kids a 10 gallon fish tank for my kid. I went this afternoon with my kid and wife and tried to buy 3 small fish. When we got there there were two ladies at the aquarium area. One slim lady was helpful but was really busy. After She gave a some advise about the fish and walked away. The other lady was doing some else. I believed we are bother her. When we asked her to help for the fish. She refused and kept asking question. Whether we were sure we want to get because we had 10 gallons tank and we needed to clean every two days. We responded "yes". The only responded We got was " if you put three small fish in to 10 gallons tank, I will not sell it to you... it is not fair to the fish". Ironically, there were over 100 in this "small tank". Is that really fair to the fish? I felt my family being humiliated. I should give one star but since one of the lady was nice I gave 2 stars ' just to be fair'. read more

Petco Stores have terrible sales people. I have a ten gallon fish tank. I wanted to buy two fish to go into the tank. I do not have any other fish. Petco refused to sell me fish, saying that my tank was to small for two gold fish. Petco said that if they sold me the fish, I would "murder" them because my tank was to small. Seriously, they sell fish for other animals to eat, but they won't take a chance that my 10 gallon tank is big enough for two gold fish. The sales people at the Meridian Avenue/Branham Lane store are rude, beyond belief. I also wait 20 minutes to be told I was going to murder gold fish. These people are nutty. read more

I took my German Shephard to a gal named Liz. I was surprised at how knowledgeable she was with the breed, and even helped me to pick out a good dog food and supplemets. My dog had been losing a lot of weight and his coat was very dull. When I picked up my dog he was super clean and Happy! Ive taken him to other groomers before and always seems very eager to leave the salon, he seemed content this time around. He was clean, smelled good, and had a bow on his collar which I thought was kinda cool. We'll be coming back. read more

I just went in to grab a quick treat for my dog. it turned out to be the worst experience I've had at any pet store. I grabbed what I was looking for and on my way out I saw a section of treats by the check out area that was marked "Managers Special" - $.30 There was one chewable left in the bin so I figured why not its a great price. When I went to check out, the checker needed the managers approval so I had to wait for a manager to help out. Ok no problem...So then the manager Gabriel came back and said that the one treat that was in the bin wasn't supposed to be there. So instead of honoring what was advertised I got the cold shoulder from Gabriel as he rudely told me I could get something else. To me that wasn't the point. I knew I could grab anything else already. I just wanted Gabriel to show some integrity and honor what was being advertised. In fact had he honored the "Manager Special" price I would have bought what I had at the time and come back in the future. But instead Gabriel decided to have an attitude and try and charge me over $6.00 Just for the one item that was clearly marked $.30. Now I will not only NEVER shop at another PETCO again I will also spread the word to all my friends and neighbors that they too should shop elsewhere. Ashley, Rachel and Jenny ROCK!!! ALL the groomers are very nice and handle my dog like a charm. He was incredibly abused before we got him and the girls at Petco know exactly how to handle him and I feel comfortable dropping him off. Don't forget, there are dogs in the back getting washed that we cannot see, so they are very busy. My dog comes out looking beautiful, healthier and happy, not traumatized. This store has a rat infestation...I've seen rat feces on the floor of the cat food section, I've seen bags on the shelf with holes gnawed in them in both the dry cat food and dry dog food section...and, even more disturbing, there's a LOT of bags, like probably more than 10, that are on the shelf patched and annotated "package is damaged but product is fine." Really? Your store is a rats nest and you expect your customers to believe that? STAY OUT OF THIS STORE...they're willing to put contaminated food back on the shelf to try and make an extra buck. read more

I took my dog and cat here for vaccinations and to get "chipped". Even though it was a Saturday, the line was quite short and the whole experience quite pleasant. I thought the vet was actually very knowledgeable and interacted well with my pets. I had a bad experience with my vet of several years, so thought I would try this and was quite surprised. i have a 3 year old half shih tzu half brussels griffon. been to the groomers plenty of times, my regular groomer couldn't fit me in so i decided to take my dog here. after keeping my dog for 2 hours, and not washing him or anything they call me to pick him up because they couldn't handle my dog. and charged me 50 dollars!!!! my dog weighs 9 pounds. are you kidding me!!!! go to almaden pet salon they are amazing! read more

This is the 3rd time taking my Cavalier Kind Charles Spaniel, she is 9mo old. The 2 previous times I took her in for grooming, all went very well. She was ready when they said she would be, she seemed fine (tail wagging and happy) when they brought her to me. This time, not so much. She didn't wag her tail and looked down. When I went in at the time they told me to be back for her she wasn't ready, apparently the groomer that was working on her was on her break and my girl was sitting in the cage dryer (I should come back in another 30mins), they told me she didn't like them drying her ears (this has not ever been a problem anywhere else or with anyone else). I paid for the mid-tier grooming, but really I do not think all of what I paid for was done, plus the add-on's, they realized I was not happy with the extra 30min wait and rushed her out. Once I got her home I was looking at her nails and saw 3 different "nicks" on the pads of her paws. I am furious. Needless to say I will not be taking my little girl back there. read more
