Reviewing based on their selection of cat food. They actually have a large selection of healthy, grain free cat food! I used to go to Pet Food Express in Redwood City but this location is a lot closer. They also allow returns/exchanges if you're not satisfied with their products which is good because my cat is super picky about her food. The employees are nice and available to help. Make sure you keep your receipt for returns and also check your purchases before leaving. I know being a cashier can be boring but last time I was here my items were scanned incorrectly so I was charged extra. read more

We're almost through Puppy 1 with Omar, and have also been to a few of his Puppy Playtime sessions, and he is absolutely incredible. He's extremely knowledgeable about dogs and their behavior. I agree with the other customer that the grooming department at this location sucks. I checked with them at the time of making an appointment regarding vaccine requirement for a puppy. I received a text saying "we would just need second round of puppy shots". However when I came with my puppy, they declined taking her saying they require 48 hours after the second shot. It was after 48 hours for her - she took the vaccine on Thursday and the grooming appointment was on Saturday approximately 49 hours after the shot. Petco at Bridgepoint still declined to take her because this location "count the number of days after the shot" and asked me to come back the next day. The last time I checked, 48 hours means 2 days and 49 is greater than 48. I will not come back to this location for grooming - what a waste of my time. The information provided to client missed 48 hour requirement for vaccine, they declined to groom my puppy even when she met the time lag requirement and did not give a logic reason. Obviously not a place willing to work with customers. read more

They called back said they could fit us in at 11:30 and said it will be about 3 hours. They text us and said he was ready around 3. We went there to get him 15 mins later, he was still on the table. I recently had a wonderful experience with Monique who payed special attention to my nervous puppy and offered good advice that made her visit a good one. She went out of her way to call me and re-schedule our appointment to a time when the shop would not be so busy, this turned out to be a great idea. Don't book with Amanda W. Super rude. When I first walked in, she already had some attitude. I thought ok, maybe she was busy or something. She told me it was gonna be 2-3 hours before my dog would be finished. I waited almost 4 hours. No call from her. I walked inside because no one would pick up the call. She told me not yet. I asked her if she could give me an estimated time because I had other plans. She said, "Well I work with live animals. You can't rush me. You can take your dog if you don't want to get him done." The actual grooming was ok, less expensive and Gryffin really loved his groomer. However, scheduling is really tough. They booked him every month automatically which sounded great up front, but when we needed to cancel due to travel it was impossible to reach someone. I left a message but the appointment was never taken off the schedule on our account. I scheduled for the week we returned from our trip, but for some reason that appointment was removed from our account and moved to a different day we couldn't make. Again, I called to cancel and reschedule, but once again could never get ahold of anyone. I left another message again, and planned to make the next appointment that was automatically on our account. When I showed up today for his appointment the groomer was pretty rude. She told me since we missed three appointments the one for today was cancelled. When I tried to explain that I left messages, she rudely told me she never received them and told me I never left them. What?! ‍ When I shared the appointment was on my account and that the system was very difficult to navigate, she said she didn't know anything about that and all she can say is that it was cancelled. There was no responsibility or empathy, no offer to help me to get scheduled again or even an "I'm sorry this happened and that it was so hard." I told her that she lost a customer and she just said ok and then moved on to talk to the gentleman behind me. I took my dog to the Petco groomers for the first time today and I was thoroughly impressed. Julian helped me maximize my services for my price. He was very friendly to my dog and to me. He gave me a 10 minute window of when I could pick her up. When I got her, she looked great- so clean, nails trimmed and she smelled great. He also mentioned he noticed some redness in her ear and to keep an eye on it. Lastly, he tied a bandana around her neck that matched her collar and a bag of treats as a parting gift. This review is for the Puppy Level 1 Training Class with Omar as the instructor. I enrolled my Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy in this class because I felt the price was reasonable and the class was offered on Saturday afternoons that worked with our schedule. There was also free 'Puppy Play' before the class - good to get energy out before having to focus! Omar was great from the very beginning. Immediately our puppy eagerly jumped all over him but after the 6 week course she mastered 'sit' instead of bouncing like a jumping bean. The course curriculum included sit, down, stay, come, leave it/take it, and walking on a leash. Omar went above and beyond to ensure his 'students' were learning the curriculum. He offered unique, specific suggestions for skills to work on at home depending on each puppies' needs. His ideas also helped our puppy improve crate training, potty training, and not jumping on the furniture. I was delightfully impressed with the class, but especially with Omar. He has a great attitude and a passion for dog training. read more

I took my dog for the first time to get groomed. Awful!!!! I was told it was going to take 1 1/2 hours. I left the store and drove back Home I was on highway 92 I got a Call saying my dog was ready. The groomer did not bath my dog properly she felt damp nails were still long though she said she cut it. Over priced ($70) for less than 30min. This Petco treated a dog rescue I volunteered with terribly. They originally phoned the rescue many times asking the group to set up shop in their store. The store makes a lot of money from adopters at adoption events--leashes, collars, tags, food, beds, toys, you name it. But once the rescue set up in their store for weekly adoption events, the crappy treatment began. The adoption event was always shoved to the back of the store. They refused to put signage out front, and forced us to set up the dozen or so dog crates in a cramped claustrophobic area near the dumpy restrooms in the back, near the stockroom so that even their employees had to work around us. Week after week I and other volunteers with the rescue were placing dogs with new families and along the way showing people options for leashes, bowls, food, toys, and beds. I bet I sold hundreds and hundreds of dollars of their merchandise, when their own employees couldn't be bothered to order poopie bags for their racks or replenish paper towels for the cleanup stations. The store personnel never bothered to remember us from week after week. I'm in your store for 3 hours every week and you can't say hello like you know me? The groomers were often rude. I gritted my teeth week after week, knowing that these leashes I was recommending were enriching a crassly inconsiderate store. Now that we've found a new home I'm glad to tell people to stay away from this store and its management. Everything you can buy here can be had at better prices with friendlier, more knowledgeable staff at Pet Club or Pet Food Express. read more

This is my favorite Petco by far!! Most Petcos are located in shopping plazas and this one is too but the stores surrounding it are actually stores that I can get some multitasking done at (Target, Old navy... Ice skating if I really wanted to.. lol). It's soooooo clean here. The Nature's Choice dog food that I buy for my puppy that's always out of stock at my neighborhood Petco is here. They have the best selection of Betas, puppy clothes, and beds. I own a mini beagle and during the holidays we came by to get him a stocking and some sweaters (he didn't end up wearing them, I should've known better he's a beagle lol). Sorry to give one star but this is a very bad bath (and trim) experience for my dog. Staff (a lady might be with name Dani) looks new to work. She explained that a $45 bath includes basic trimming of behind ear and pop area etc. But when I got the bill, there is an additional $25 for trim and brush-out. I didn't pay attention to my dog thinking maybe there was miscommunication in the beginning. But when I got home I found dirt behind my dogs ear, meaning she didn't even wash there, let alone trimming there. Pop area is also still dirty. Trimming of thigh part is rarely done. Come on, this is really a bad service. I just moved to foster city from San Jose. Wasn't familiar with the neighborhood, so found the big grooming stores. But Petco really did a bad job. I used to live in San Jose and went to different grooming stores, both family owned and PetSmart. They had bad days but acceptable. But today I essentially got over charged without getting good basic service. read more

I had the most horrific experience in this Petco store yesterday. I had booked an appointment to get my dog fully groomed for the first time ever. In past times I've only gotten his rear end shaved. I was told first of all that it would be a 2 hour drop off time. That was fine. Everything was confirmed. The gentleman that I spoke to a few days prior about the appointment was very kind and very helpful. I even complimented him on the dog he was grooming at the time when I was in there. So the morning of my dogs appointment I get a call saying that I can bring my dog in sooner, and at any time before his actual appointment. So I bring him in an our early. When I get there the girl in the grooming department says that it's going to be a 3 hour wait for him, and asks very few questions about what I want done. I told her a few key parts to leave and others to shave and whatnot. I was assuming that she knew how to groom my dogs breed, a Border Collie/Australian Shepard mix. They have a longer coat, and certain areas are shorter. So I leave and about 3 and a half hours later they are done, I get a call that I can come pick him up. I'm a bit angry that it took so long when I was told only 2 hours. By the time I get there I just want to get my dog and go home. When the groomer let him out and I get to see him he looked like a drunken Edward Scissorhands hacked at his coat. I didn't say anything at the time because I thought I could go home and inspect him more there. So I get home and his fur is mutilated. He is one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen ( a bit biast, but have been told so by many many others) and now he looks like he fell into a wood chipper. His hair is all sorts of different lengths, she cut WAY too much off in areas that I specifically said to leave be. And I had thought it was the store that had a bad smell, but when I could get close to my dog I realized it was him. He smelled as if he was standing in urine while in the crate they kept him in. I will NEVER consider going to a Petco ever again in my life. The staff was not very helpful, (except that one gentleman that I spoke too in grooming care), it's over priced, and they butchered my dogs coat which will takes at least 6 months to look even someone normal again. read more

This Petco is always clean and doesn't reek of bad pet odors like Laurelwood Pet Shop. They sell fish, small turtles, reptiles, mice, hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, chinchillas, birds, and also have a few cats for adoption. They have a pretty large selection of pet foods and a treat bar with different dog cookies for sale by weight. Petco opened at Bridgepointe less than a year ago and is by far the best maintained of the numerous Petco's I've been to. Sometimes there are sickly fish inside of their aquariums but their bettas are kept in plastic containers (with lids!) larger than many other fish stores. read more

Made an appointment to get my German Shepard "fully-serviced" Dropped him off at 11:00am, thinking this is great, I can get some things done in the area... Come 4pm, still no phone call or anything in regards to how my dog is doing. I called, they said we still haven't done anything for your dog, WHAT? 5 hours later you didn't do anything? No, he's next on the list. You're telling me you've had him for 5 hours and you haven't touched him? No, he's too big, but we're going to try now. Come 6pm, STILL no phone call... I went into the store AFTER 7 hours, to find out they didn't touch my dog and that he's been in a kennel all this time. Angry as hell at this point, I told them to go get my dog and that this was ridiculous. I left there knowing I would NEVER take my dog into that place EVER again. I come to this Petco whenever I go and visit my Sister down in LA. She has 2 Pomeranians and they love 2 things: Treats and Toys.... not me! I usually know what to get once I walk into the store. I head over to the toys section and pick up little stuffed animals that make sounds..... Last time I was there, I picked up a stuffed cow.... scared one of the two dogs.... made my day! I then move over to the treats section and pick up those 7 day bones..... one per day.... CASE IN POINT: These things work like a charm if you're trying to occupy the dog for 30 mins..... they'll keep knawing the bone to get to the meaty part! Relentless! I'll recommend to go for the ease of shopping and since it's close to my place. It's decently clean and the service is just alright.... 3 stars because I don't come here that often..... it serves my purpose! read more

Looks like a lot of the bad reviews here are from their grooming department... I've never used that service, so I can't speak on that. However, as far as the rest of the store goes - I enjoy it. It's a typical Petco, but you can tell they are trying to work on their customer service and ask things like "How would you rate our service on a scale of 1-10" and such. I just adopted my pug, Larry, last week and took him in because I wanted to find a proper harness for him. The staff was so helpful and helped me to get him fitted appropriately and treated my dog really nicely. I went in again today and because they did not have the specific toy I wanted in stock at the moment (they were sold out), the clerk gave me a coupon for 2$ off the item when I come back and they have it in stock. My family and I have been shopping at the 3012 Bridgepointe Parkway location for over 3 months now and Love coming here because of the AWESOME GREAT HELP from these 2 wonderful people: ( REBECCA & JULIA. Because of them we Purchase a 20gal tank Aquarium kit, Fish food supplies, bio lift products , ETC, over 20-Gold and Algae eaters fishes. We go there like almost every Saturday and Sundays. I had bought hermit crabs from them before and they all died within a week. Petco has ready terrible product selection. When I first got into CA, setting up my hermit crabs that came with me from NY was of the utmost importance. Certainly they had all the items I needed but the crabitat they had was... well a bit sad. Bad setup with very few crabs and little crab limbs all over the place. I grabbed what I needed and tried to not look too much at them. Some months later the crabitat was cleaned up a bit so I felt better adopting a new crab. Nonetheless I wish there were more items about, better attention to the crabs and possibly more cleaning. Seeing three crabs amongst three dead ones was sort of baffling. Obviously since I was one track while in here I can't comment too much about the other things in the store but I will note that the store itself was quite clean. read more

I'm really on the fence here. I guess this is an overall rating for two different aspects of the store I'd like to review. First the groomers are nice and friendly. But they do not know how to cut a Westie. If you have a Westie, don't bother. They will cut him like a Scottie. (no longer talking about the groomers) But everytime I go there I am treated well. I'm probably 5-7 years older than the regular staff there so maybe that's why? Maybe it's because I bring my adorable Westie in a lot also? But it just seems like they care about the dogs here. They have always for the most part said Hi as I've walked by and asked if I've needed help finding anything. Sounds like what Safeway is supposed to be. I always expect for things to go rude because most of the staff is young, but it hasn't happened yet. read more

This review is for their Puppy Trainer Omar. He's a "puppy whisperer" and excellent at his job. He was the leader/teacher of my 6 week training course for my spirited little 3 month old pup. His weekly trainings were efficient, digestible and "homework" was relevant and achievable. He's a normal guy that dogs/puppies LOVE without being a creeper. Since getting a puppy I'm meeting folks that are *too* into puppies and this guy is a refreshing mix of knowledgeable and caring; it's hilarious how the puppies follow his instruction without fail. I'd recommend his classes to anyone, it's been a great help in getting our pup to learn the basics. read more

I couldn't get an appointment with our usual groomer, so I took my dog here. When we arrived we were told that our appointment wasn't scheduled correctly, but they would be able to accommodate my pup anyway. I was grateful. However, 7 hours later when I finally got word that my dog was ready, I walked into something upsetting. The groomer was roughly handling what appeared to be an elderly dog. Then, the groomer proceeds to grab my my dog roughly out of the holding kennel, and shoves her onto the grooming table. My dog, who never has an issue with groomers started to cry and shake as the groomer pulled out scissors and grabbed at her face to "even her out". At this point I said that everything was fine, quite frankly I wanted to get her out of that place asap. The groomer kept talking about how difficult she was. He gave her a treat on the way out as an apology- I think. When we got home she drank two bowls of water, and then hid under furniture. It's clear that she wasn't given water during her 7 hours at Petco. I'm pretty pragmatic, but this isn't how you treat animals. We will not under any circumstances go back to Petco for anything ever again. Please be careful when choosing whether of not to take your pet here for grooming. read more

My boyfriend and I took our puppy for grooming to this location today and i have never had such a bad experience anywhere before. We get there on time and mind you this was our 2nd time rescheduling after going there a week before. The first time we had to reschedule because we got there late and that is totally on us. But this time we get there 20 minutes before and Diana had the nerve to tell us that she couldn't groom our puppy because he was heavily matted and she told us that we should take him to the vet instead. I looked at her and said we literally took him to the vest last Thursday for a check up and the vet did not mention at all that our puppy was matted and needed attention immediately. I think the vet would have definitely let us know if the matting was an issue. The part that pissed me off to write this review was when she said I should bring my puppy to the vet again. She had seen my puppy the week prior and if he was matted that bad then she should have let us know so I could have checked in with my vet on that but she not say anything about matting being an issue then. She was not understanding at all and just said she couldn't groom him. Luckily, I was able to take my puppy to another groomer and they took him in without any issues. I wouldn't be writing this review if the other groomer had also denied us saying matting was an issue. Diana, if you're a groomer and you see a poor puppy that's matted wouldn't you want to help them?? If you don't feel that way, then maybe being a groomer isn't the best profession for you. I request management to please speak to this lady as I see that other people have also been denied service after they show up and given the excuse of "matting" and i don't know if this same groomer but this is not okay! Stop wasting people's time and energy going out of their way. read more
