Service 5/5 Fast and always friendly. Reading some of the reviews made me wonder if we are talking about the same place. If the window peeps aren't at their best cut it up and get them laughing. Seriously have fun everywhere you go and drag those needing some joy with you. We ordered a number two (Fish & chips) and a fifteenth piece shrimp with the large 14oz Pete's sauce. I could easily put my straw in that sauce. Niece Sandy picked up the tab today what a treat! This is a staple from my childhood. Is it traditional fish and chips that I'd get in England? Definitely not. Do I still love it with their red sauce? Absolutely. Just something about this place has me go on occasion when I'm feeling like I can tolerate fish/fry food as I tend to stay meat free post gallbladder removal. Always quick service and very friendly. I read a few good reviews about this place and both are locals and figure now I will also add to the pile of good reviews of this establishment. I have seen this place when driving all over Phoenix, and last night when I was in Mesa and needed some grub, I finally stopped in. This is a family owned chain and operating since 1947. Its a cash only place and there is an ATM on premise. You order at a window, which reminds me for some reason of the beach towns back East. I ordered the seafood combo #1 which consists of 4 pieces of fried shrimp, one piece of fried fish fillet, some fries and comes with a 32 oz soft drink. Total came to under $12. The kid at the window initially said I had to order a drink separate after I asked about my drink and I had to tell him their combos come with drinks. He was nice about it and then told me that they must have changed their combo special. I highly doubt it, but whatever he says... [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like that they have outdoor seating, patio covered. I did see mounted space heaters so that will be nice when it gets a bit chilly here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, nothing to really complain about. To say Pete's is a nostalgic fav of mine would be an understatement. My grandparents loved it, my parents love it, I love it, and my kids now love it! My friends and I used to frequent Pete's for lunch in high school as it was just down the road a bit from Mesa High. It was also our favorite spot after a weekend of shenanigans and sand volleyball. Lots of memories here!! Ok, now that I've walked down memory lane, a few important things to note: They ONLY accept cash. There's an ATM right outside which is nice. I've loved Pete's my whole life! My whole family has been coming here for years and years. In my opinion, the one in South Phoenix is the best tasting. Don't ask me why, because I just can't explain it! I've been to almost every location in Arizona. I love that this Mesa location has a drive thru. I typically get the #1 combo, which is a 4 piece shrimp, 1 piece fish, with fries and a 32 ounce drink. The Dr Pepper here hits different, in the best way possible ! First time at Pete's, and from what other people have said, it used to be much better a decade ago. What wasn't better a decade ago?! I thought the food was pretty good. Not bad, not great. It's basically a step up from fast food. The red sauce they give you taste like a thick tomato juice, and is rather bland. They have some other sauce that is kind of a tartar sauce and cost extra. First time as an AZ native, and I was seriously impressed with this great option for a fast food day! My two pieces of fish were stupid good with Casey's awesome sauce!! I didn't care for their traditional red sauce as much, still not bad though. Their onion rings are also delicious hot or cold! I grew up eating Pete's on special occasions, whenever it was my dad or my nana's birthday we would go to Pete's. My dad always has at least one Pete's shirt in his closet. I have converted many a close friend and loved one to Pete's. Pete's is engrained into my being, my essence, my soul. Those who hate on Pete's for it not being high quality seafood need to manage their expectations. We are in Arizona and this is a place that only takes cash, you order at a window, and there's no indoor seating. Be for real. The square fish patty will always be crispy, the fries will always be the perfect amount of not so crispy, and the breading will always taste good. One thing I will say though is that the sauce varies by location, in my opinion though the one on 44th and Indian School has the best sauce. The fish also lacked any flavor and the special Pete's sauce that came with it was basically a watered down cocktail sauce. The crabettes were fried imitation crab legs that were just not good. The absolute worst part of the meal was the rice crispy treat. It was so incredibly stale and somehow mushy on the bottom. Highly doubt it was made daily as advertised. Everyone who has tried it truly likes this local gem. The owner is absolutely the sweetest and so helpful! I get the #1 Shrimp and fish plate that comes with 4 shrimp, 1 fish and fries! With their fancy Pete's sauce!! We are there outside, misters were nice and the owner even came out to offer us their new fresh made daily twist on tarter sauce that was great!! My grandfather loved this place, so we would always find ourselves eating here with him. Great fast food sea food and like others have mentioned, yes it certainly was better in the past, and fries portions are significantly slimmer, but still a great spot to eat. I have been coming here for over 40 years. But, the last few years the food is mediocre and never fresh. I still crave it so I decided to be the first in line when they opened today to be sure I get fresh food. The food was terrible and not fresh at all. It was obvious the fish was leftover from yesterday because it tasted terrible and was hard. I'd addition, the bun was tough around the edges and hard to chew. After a wonderful tour of the temple down the street, my husband, our friends and I stopped in at Pete's for lunch. This is a CASH ONLY establishment, so know that going in. There is an ATM on site, however, you will be charged a service fee by BOTH the ATM and your bank. There is outdoor only seating, and a drive through. The ordering process is quick, prices are surprisingly low, you are given a number, your number is called once all the food is ready. There are plenty of tables surrounding the building, so seating was not an issue. It was comfortable enough to sit and chat for a while before and after our meals. There is a grassy area next door and it was relaxing to watch birds fly around. (Don't feed the birds!) My husband had fish and chips and an order of onion rings. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and pink lemonade. I was so hungry and the food was so good, I neglected to take any pictures of it. I did however notice the posted signs that can be found on every column. I seriously need the sign at the top, lol. Every bite was delicious, our friends loved their meals as well. We picked up after ourselves after eating, and discarded the trash in the receptacles provided. (Refer back to the top sign that I love so much!)
