After a wonderful tour of the temple down the street, my husband, our friends and I stopped in at Pete's for lunch. This is a CASH ONLY establishment, so know that going in. There is an ATM on site, however, you will be charged a service fee by BOTH the ATM and your bank. There is outdoor only seating, and a drive through. The ordering process is quick, prices are surprisingly low, you are given a number, your number is called once all the food is ready. There are plenty of tables surrounding the building, so seating was not an issue. It was comfortable enough to sit and chat for a while before and after our meals. There is a grassy area next door and it was relaxing to watch birds fly around. (Don't feed the birds!) My husband had fish and chips and an order of onion rings. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and pink lemonade. I was so hungry and the food was so good, I neglected to take any pictures of it. I did however notice the posted signs that can be found on every column. I seriously need the sign at the top, lol. Every bite was delicious, our friends loved their meals as well. We picked up after ourselves after eating, and discarded the trash in the receptacles provided. (Refer back to the top sign that I love so much!) Almost inedible had a burger corn dog and fries. Not sure what the meat was in the burger but doubt it was beef. It was gray in color and tasted strange. Bun stale. Only thing ok was the mustard. Corndog was burnt and again not a normal hot dog. Fries were cold and hard. Not sure how this place stays in business. Awesome, no-frill experience. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from? This is clearly marked to be a '$' place with basic food that delivers on its promises! It's 2023. First. You can get a 1PC fish and chips combo for 3.2$! Take that into account, first. For less than 7$, you will get a 2PC combo with a drink included. Second. The flavor. While the fish comes in a square shaped patties, these are definitely NOT highly processed. Minimally, at best. It's obvious the fish is flaky and tasty. It's definitely not ground fish. It's not beer battered - it's not advertised anywhere. Everything comes served with their own , really good cocktail sauce. I am personally super grateful this place exists. This is not the fish and chips place of ten years ago to me. Prices are very low still though. The fish is a square filet without much taste to it. Some salt yes and the breading is consistent. It just isn't that good. The shrimp is decent. The nuggets have a little seasoning and are the most moist out of all of these. Pros. The value. Sort of for what you get and how many kids or family you could feed. But if you could afford a meal you could enjoy a lot, why not do that? Cons. It not good likely due to the cooking oil. I had a lot of indigestion after this meal. Too much oil, or not the right kind. To me it was a waste of time to go and I doubt I will be back. I hate to sound mean, but I remember when the food was good. I was so looking forward to having it again. Step up your game Pete's and please start accepting credit cards and Apple Pay. Having an ATM at your store and charging 2.50 to withdraw just feels like a racket. Like I'm being taken advantage of. Hello i went to Pete's earlier tonight and had a horrible experience. The food came so fast after i ordered it that i knew it wasnt going to be a good experience. The fries were old and crunchy, the shrimp was hard in crunchy as well. The fish patty was not cooked all the way. The Dr Pepper was flat. Okay this is not your authentic haddock or cod pub but it's damn good for fish stick style fish and chips spot. Nice long fries too, not the truncated British fare. Yes the fish is the kind in a fish sandwich composed of Pollack and maybe a dash of cod, on the rare chance that cod wound up in the catch. But for a very inexpensive quick fish and chips this is the spot. I sat outside under the misters and yes it was 103 but it felt really good. I chose to nibble my catch under the fog of the coolness . The sauce for the fish is not tartar but a mild tomato based vinegar ish sauce. Next time I'll ask for their tartar sub. Send in the substitutes! The order came out very fast and the fish and fries were piping hot! As in burn your mouth hot... and the fries were perfectly seasoned not too much salt. Welp...I can say two good things about this place. The drinks were cold and the "awesome" sauce, although tasting nothing like tarter sauce, had a good flavor profile. But then they charge me $1.07 extra for the sauce even though I told them I wouldn't it and not the Pete's Sauce with my meal!!! As for Pete...I'm sure he rolled over in his grave and can't date to look at what his family has done to his legacy. From seven locations down to one...and that one sells awful frozen products and horrible fries. They apparently have taken the business model of buying the cheapest frozen product they can find on Gods green earth, and trying to pass it off as desirable. Yuck yuck and more yuck. Service was from a grumpy old guy who apparently hates being there too. Ambiance...greasy, crusty rusted tables out in the Arizona heat. Maybe an occasional power wash could get some of the bird poop and yuck of em!?! Maybe they could at least try to care about the business. Sorry Pete...my first and last visit. Every time I come here, they are out of something towards dinner time or there is something wrong. Today they are out of chicken. I sat in a line for 30 minutes to finally get to the speaker to order and the employee tells me after I put my order that I was unable to get the chicken because they were out. Your out of chicken 5 hours before close time? Then don't even put up a sign to alert the people ordering that you're out? Seems minuscule until it happens on 5 or 6 different occasions. read more

I was hungry for some lunch on my way to an appointment so I stopped in to get a quick bite to eat. Sadly we ordered a cheese burger and burrito combo from a fish and chips restaurant and I was stupid to do so. The cheeseburger was actually good a tender meat party that had way too much mustard on it. The fries tasted like fish and the burrito was a Costco frozen food .35 cent bean burrito dropped into the fish deep fryer it was absolutely disgusting I wouldn't even feed it to my two dogs. They tried passing ketsup off as salsa that was watered down yuck! The owner isn't doing anyone justice by keeping the frozen burritos on the menu I won't be eating there again and I suggest nobody should. read more

I ordered the shrimp, messy fish sandwich, double monster burger with cheese. Pete's sauce is the go to condiment of choice and the shrimp were crispy and tender. The fish was moist and flaky with a tasty breaded seasoning. My wife had me try the chicken fingers. Flaky, moist and tender surrounded by a breading I've never noticed before. WHAT THE HECK??? These were better than anywhere else! I ordered more to take home and share!! One bite of the messy fish sandwich with the combination of Pete's sauce with fresh coleslaw on top was tremendously satisfying. I know this is a Mesa relic and a beloved lunch spot but I was NOT impressed. The chicken nuggets are mealy and disgusting. Weird flavor AND texture. The fries were way over cooked and mostly brown. My soda cup was all sticky. The fish was surprisingly decent, flakey and light. I didn't try the shrimp, but my daughter who normally LOVES shrimp only ate one or two so I'm assuming it wasn't spectacular. We were all hungry an hour later because we all didn't eat much of our food. I bought extra sauce because normally I'm a big sauce fan. However most of our sauce went to waste. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I was disappointed they don't serve onion rings on Fridays. If I'm going to eat something deep fried, all I really want is some onion rings. This is pretty filling and inexpensive for what you get. I ordered the #2 combo (2 fish, 7 shrimp, and fries, drink). I did get a little confused on where to order since they have a window where the food is called out and one to order, but that's a minor complaint. One other "flaw" is the need to pay cash only. I knew this beforehand, so I pulled money out from my bank, but if I didn't know this, I probably would've drove to eat somewhere else. So, it would be great if that was "updated". Every time we drive by, this place is always packed, outside and drive-thru. They ONLY take cash, so bring cash. We ordered their fish n chips, fries, onion rings and their marshmallow bars. The fish fillets were HUGE and freaking HOT. Had I not cut them up, they would have taken HOURS to cool down. I felt the fish didn't have any flavor. Even the sauce provided didn't much help. The fries were okay. The onion rings were pretty crispy-near burnt. The marshmallow bars... were basically large Rice Krispies.... That taste like airy marshmallows. Going here since I was born 50+years ago. Tonight was a first. 1. Out of onion rings. Ok, it happens. 2. OUT OF CHANGE! So you give them money and they keep the change. They DONT accept debit or other cards. Change was 64 cents and they said they had no coins. Redid the order and it was $23.02. Wouldn't give me two cents but wanted another dollar so they keep the 98 cents change. This adds up by the end of the night for them. NEVER heard of a place that shakes you down for your change and not donate to a charitable fund. I'm sure somewhere this is not legal or at least ethical. GO TO THE DAMN BANK!! They have change! Been to BofA, Chase, Desert Financial and Truwest. THEY HAVE CHANGE!! Stop lying and taking advantage of customers!! I doubt Pete ran his business this way! Guess it'll be the last time we eat there.
