Pretty decent, not exceptional Thai restaurant. Location is not pretty with an outlook to busy Lake City Way and parking is strip mall like. Thai basil chicken tasted great but portion was average. Nice fresh chicken pieces and veggies tasted fresh also. Pad Thai was so so and definitely too sweet. No refills on soda which is lame but the norm at Thai restaurants. All in all pretty authentic and reasonably tasty but nothing outstanding. read more

Our first time trying this restaurant and it was great. As recommended by others we tried chicken pad Thai and yellow curry. The pad Thai was awesome - super flavorful and delicious. The yellow curry was good but the portion size a bit smaller and the potatoes were a bit undercooked. But otherwise tasted great. We will be coming back soon! read more

I lived in Thailand for 15 years and I say that this is excellent Thai food. My encounter with Phayathai was actually at CenturyLink field during an event in which they had a stand set up on the main level. I had shrimp fried rice- And do not scoff at the banality of a dish with this name. It had generous ingredients and that includes the shrimp. We just enjoyed our 5th or 6th to go order from this place, and we like their food very much. The people there are super nice. They would deliver, but we order there and have a Singha while we wait since the interior is very nice and warm, not freezing like so many drafty Seattle restaurants! The location is kind of odd (main floor of a condo with weird parking), but they make up for it by having fresh rolls, something a lot of Thai restaurants don't make. Great restaraunt. Really good food, we were impressed. Pad Thai was delicious. Nice inside the place as well. What was best was the staff. We came in with 30 minutes to make it to a movie at Northgate. We asked the waiter if that was OK, and he assured us it was. I was skeptical, but he sat us, got us drinks, took our order and seriously within 5-10 minutes our food was out. It was great food too. He brought me the check right away, took my card, and even brought us green tea when he realized we weren't going to be in such a huge rush since they were so quick. Very friendly, helpful, and very reasonable prices for how good their food is! Great place and great staff. We'll be back!! read more

We live close to this restaurant and have eaten here many many times. Food is delicious, well priced and servings for noodle and rice dishes are big enough to make 2-3 meals for me (average sized woman). The folks who own this restaurant are exceptionally warm and friendly, and always remember us. Heads up, though, that it seems to be much quicker to pick food up yourself than wait for delivery. Never written a review before but you must eat here - best Thai food - exactly what I've been seeking. Ordered green bean wok, papaya salad, pad see iew, tofu and broccoli. All amazing. We ate there but look forward to delivery. (For Thai-food lovers or folks who've lived in Thailand like me -- their papaya salad is the real deal. 1/12/14 Sunday 6:30pm: 4+ stars really? Late Sunday night, we decided to grab a quick bite. We followed our neighbor's lead and Yelp 4+ stars, tried a couple of dishes. They had no website and Yelp has no online menu, but we tried it anyway. The place was pretty empty, once seated, it took a while for the waitress to take our order, and they seemed busy with phone orders. Our dishes came out in reasonable time, not speedy, but not long. * Pak prikkhing: fresh green bean, prikkhing sauce+finely sliced kaffir lime leaves $8.95: the beans perfectly sautéed, BUT with old stringy beans, and oily sauce. Nice sauce flavoring though, wouldn't order it again. 2.5 stars * Pad Se We: wide rice noodle, egg and Chinese broccoli $9.25 again the broccoli was not fresh and fiber, and oily, not as much as the Pak prikkhing, the tofu was dried, wouldn't order it again. 2.5 stars * Kid's noodle: wide rice noodle, fish balls, ground pork $3.95: didn't care for the fish balls, but the rest are just right, not oily. Too bad, a kid's meal should include some veggie in it. 3 stars * Brown rice $1.50: perfect, nutty, chewy, but the portion could be a tag larger. 4 stars. Friendly family run restaurant, nice open space setting, thought not cozy enough even for a booth, the next table to us just drown out our conversation, and you can hear their kid playing the back room. My girlfriend and I love this place. It has become our new go-to Thai restaurant whenever we're feeling take out. We always get the basil fried rice (sometimes 2 orders so we can enjoy it for multiple days!) and the Panang curry. They are both consistently awesome and come in perfectly sized servings (just enough if you're REALLY hungry and but good for 2 meals if you add a side). The owners are very friendly... they quickly began to recognize us (I think after just 2 visits) and handed our order to us before we could even say anything. Anytime I've gotten there before the food was ready they would greet me with a cup of tea while I waited. I can't speak to the sit down service, but they definitely go above and beyond for their take out customers. Great food, great service, great place. read more

Really good down home cooking. Great service and owners remember you too. That's a nice personal touch in the city. You get a sense that they are not rushed and pushy as some Asian restaurants are known to come off this way. I grew up eating in some of these type of restaurants in the ID district. I've gone to all the restaurants that have tried to make a go of this odd building, and this is by far the best! In fact, I work in the Queen Ann area where there have to be at least 7 Thai restaurants, and this place is better than them all. You'll love the man who runs the place, what a warm soul. Overall I thought the food was ok. My wife wanted Thai and we toyed with the idea of driving over the Pestle Rock but decided to stay local since we were tired. Phayathai is family-run, and the proprietors are friendly. The place is dimly lit and fairly clean. It was quiet for a Friday night. We ordered a variety of things off the menu, including Tom Yum, the house special noodles, barbecue beef, Pad Thai, and papaya salad. Here are my thoughts: my benchmark for any Thai restaurant is the papaya salad. Theirs had reasonable heat, but there was way too little papaya and it was not nearly fish-saucy enough. The Tom Yum was probably the best thing we had - super lemongrassy. The barbecue beef was not great - the meat was tough and without the dipping sauce it had no flavor. The house special noodles were interesting. Didn't taste Thai at all, tasted more like Chinese lo mein. Why really what we expected and probably wouldn't order it again. The pad Thai was standard. Honestly, we probably won't return as there are so many Thai places in Seattle to try. read more

Phayathai has consistently great food, and we had a situation today where we had a problem with our credit card, and they were very gracious about it. We ended up working it out (the company had sent us a new one but I hadn't opened the mail, so didn't know it, so the old one didn't work) and paying for our food, but they were very understanding. I had placed an order on postmates that ended up being the wrong order. Postmates was no help but I called them directly and they took care of the issue 100%. It exceeded my expectations and I will definitely just be calling them directly for now on. Once I had what I really wanted I loved ever bite. My favorites are the Green Beans and the Veggie Yellow Curry. And my partner loves the Calamari Rings and the Fried Rice. Conveniently located but sometimes you might need to park on Lake City Way. Came in with decently high expectations after reading the other reviews and to my surprise I was not disappointed. We ordered three appetizers and an equal amount of entrees. Everything was top notch besides the house noodles (not bad just not on par with everything else and very boring). The tsunami seafood was delicious and so was the house fried rice, I would also recommend the crab won-tons, spring rolls weren't as good as other reviews made them seem but were still worth getting. Overall one of the better places I've been for thai and reasonably price. I will be back and you should try it as well. read more

Since we moved from the maple leaf area it's been a couple years since we've visited Phayathai. I'm happy to report that it's still just as good! The location is still weird. i know, i know! everyone loves this place. and the food is cooked amazingly well. prices are great. ive never had a wait. its always clean. but i dont like their veggies! i eat thai food constantly because im a picky eater and its an easy way for me to get my vegetables. in thai, i will eat almost anything! but phayathai uses chinese broccoli, even uses friendly little broccoli pictographs in the takeout menu. but dont let them fool you!!! because chinese broccoli is bitter and leafy and overwhelmingly unsatisfying if you're expecting happy broccoli. i think there was also some tomato and bamboo shoots and other "okay" veggies. im always excited to come here because it tastes and smells so good. and the owner is super nice! but i find myself picking at my plate and wishing for happier vegetables read more

Great spot! In my experience, Seattle isn't really short on solid places for Thai, but this little gem up in the Mapleleaf/Wedgwood area is a great option. The service was quick and the atmosphere was welcoming. My spicy noodle (opted for a 3 for spice level, but probably could/should have gone for a 4) was delicious -- and let me tell you (yes, even you, meat eaters!), their fried tofu is amazing! My boyfriend had another noodle dish with peanut sauce and my GOD, their peanut sauce is so rich and creamy! We were a little disappointed that we couldn't order the honey toast we drooled over on Yelp (NOTE: this isn't an "all the time" dish - the waiter said they had it for a limited time months ago, so not sure why or if this happens with other menu additions). BUT. We ordered dessert anyway, and their fried bananas with coconut & mango ice creams was definitely yummy. We'll be back soon, I'm sure :) read more

It's hard to imagine a worse location for a restaurant. It's under a semi-sketchy condo building with this weird covered parking. However, the food and service are great. The Tom Ka is incredibly delicious, and I have only had great curries (green, masaman, and yellow, all good). It's definitely a family run place, and if you come towards the end of the evening there might be kids running around helping out (in a cute, not annoying way). I love this restaurant. read more

Delicious Thai food. Was visiting family in Washington and found this place on yelp. 3* spicy isn't very spicy, I would have gone 4 or 5, unless it is the fresh peppers, then go 1*. The girls all working there were so sweet and helpful. I ordered for takeout and the food was still piping hot when I got it home. The dining atmosphere seemed pretty nice as well. Since I've had surgery and cannot cook, my spatula-fearing roommates have ventured further and further afield in search of takeout to sustain themselves. On the plus side, this foraging is what lead us to Phayathai: a hole in the wall on Lake City Way that happens to be the source of some truly awesome food. I'm not normally a fan of Thai (and as such have no clue how authentic it is), but the Green Bean wok was amazingly delicious, and my yellow curry was perfectly spicy. In fact I'm in the curious position of noting this as a downside: unlike many Americanized restaurants, Phayathai seems to put actual heat in their dishes, such that the "mild" rating seemed anything but to my Panda Express General Tso's loving buddy ;) read more

We were pleasantly surprised to have dined at this restaurant. First of all, it is a busy downtown location where it is difficult to park. Secondly, the menu was just more than an assortment of noodle dishes. Although noodles are yummy, sometime ya just want a little protein and more. We had the wok'd beans which have this amazing umami-like taste to them. The owner/chef describes this as his grandmother's recipe with garlic, ginger but it also has a sweet component to the slightly scorched green beans with a savaory sauce. This was definitely something that we would have again. Next we had their Salmon dish in a coconut milk based sauce garnished with carrots, red bell peppers, broccoli....it was delicious. We also had the green curry with pork. This was good to us, but didn't stand out. This could be our fault since we asked it to be toned down so that our toddler could enjoy...so spice level = 1. Our daughter had the pad see ew (wide noodles with choice of meat and chinese broccoli). This was a little different that usual since it had a slightly creamy texture that made it even more yummy than usual. We saw the black rice custard with mango on the menu, but unfortunately they were out of this. We will be back to definitely scarf (I mean review) this dessert. read more

We've had delivery from this place twice and both times the food was warm and delicious. The Thai iced tea isn't too sweet. The pad Thai is good - it's "normal" tasting in the fact that the flavor profile matches what you're expecting from a solid pad Thai. The Buddha's plate comes with a light sauce that compliments the veggies well. Tried the house fried rice- the one with the yellow curry, raisins, cashews, shrimp and chicken- it was good too. I've been to this place twice. The first visit was pretty good, but the second place was less than spectacular. On the most recent visit, we ordered three dishes. The curry dishes at this place, I'll admit are outstanding. There's a good balance of flavor and appropriately spiced. A nice balance of the coconut milk and curry. We ate up every bit of the sauce. Unfortunately, our other two dishes were sub-par. The phad-see-ew was off on the spice level, noodles were sticking together and the pork wasn't fresh. Similarly, the spicy eggplant and tofu dish had tofu that was also not fresh. This place is probably worth visiting, and I'll definitely try it again, but the last visit was disappointing. read more

A couple of my classmates and I went here for lunch on our lunch break and found it very delightful! I had the spicy ginger which was delish, others had pad thai and swimming rama which were also good. Was suprised to find the swimming rama to come with rice instead of wide noodles but maybe that was a lunch time special. Three stars was perfect for my taste.
