Covid-19 review. There are some bolted down seats and tables out front. Inside there are plexiglass partitions and sanitizer available. Visited this location for lunch after walking around the South Coast Botanical Gardens in the hot sun for a few hours. I was famished and ordered the Philly with lettuce and tomatoes, my attempt at getting SOME veggies. When it arrived, goodlawd it was giant and glorious! The bread was soft, the cheese melted and plenty of steak! I dug right in and was filled up with half the sandwich! Bonus 2nd meal later! The sandwich, bag of chips and fountain soda ran about $16.00, but since i could also have it for dinner, that is not too bad. This sandwich shop is located in a shopping area strip mall. When you walk in the door, its Philly sports everywhere. There are two TVs up above, usually on sports channels. And special attention for me, the picture of Dr J and Larry Bird in a fight is worth the price of admission. Once inside, there's a big menu board on your right and booth tables on your left. Straight in front of you is where you place your order. Friendly staff, ready to serve. I ordered the regular cheesesteak with onions and peppers and had a seat. The booths were clean and so were the couple of tables in the center. The sandwich was ready in about 5 minutes. The sandwich was hot so I let it cool for a moment. I picked it up for a bite. The bread didn't feel fresh and on first bite didn't seem so fresh either. The bread can make a big difference. The meat was okay but not like "yum" delicious. I'm so done with this location. Philly's Best has some really great food (when it's cooked right), but every single time I have come to this location since I discovered it, my order has been wrong. And what irritates me is not just that the order is wrong, but that the staff argues with you about it when you ask them to correct it. There is a young man in particular who cooks the food and has a very bad attitude. He always talks back when HE prepares our food wrong and we ask him to fix it. I always order my Philly cheesesteak extra well done, and I always say to burn it - EXTRA well done. I use those words. I don't think he knows what that means because every time, without fail, I receive undercooked or barely cooked meat on my sandwich. And I always ask them to fix it. He always goes, "That IS well done." And then the chick at the register agrees with him and goes, "I wrote it down right, but they're saying it's not right so just make it again." If I am sending my food back, that means it's not the way I fucking ordered it. Do you think I want to sit here and watch you recook my food when I could be on my way home to eat it right now? I'm sending it back for a reason. Shut up and fix it. They also argued with us tonight about the toppings on my fiancé's Philly's Best burger, which it SHOWS on the menu has lettuce, tomato, etc. He only ordered it without cheese, but for some reason, they only put mushrooms on it and nothing else. They argued with us about which toppings belong on the burger WHICH THERE IS A PHOTO OF ON THEIR MENU, telling us it never came with any other toppings besides mushrooms and grilled peppers (which they didn't give us either until we said something). He has ordered that burger dozens of times from this location and it has always had lettuce, tomato, sauce, etc. This is what happens when you hire a bunch of dumb kids to run a restaurant without adult supervision. Another thing is that this location like NEVER has onion rings. They are always out when I order from here, and I have yet to find out why. They have the best onion rings, but I never get to enjoy them because they are always fucking out. Like I said, the food has the potential to be very good, but I just think this location is sooooo poorly run. That cook needs to go back to the frat house he probably came from cuz he is not fit to be cooking people's food. Not to mention he does not wear gloves!!! I've eaten at Philly's Bestmany time's over the past 5 years. Very consistently good. However, I ate there yesterday with a friend who ordered a antipasto salad. The salad looked really good. He liked it but I noticed that the fork that was provided was totally inadequate to enjoy eating it. This is a pet peeve of mine. The fork couldn't have been cheaper. It never mattered to me before because I only order the phillysteak. But I've complained to other restaurants when they use these cheap forks. Perspective; Costco sells a box of 500 substantial forks for about $10.00. That's 2 cents each. The salad was $7.99. Any restaurant that saves 1 cent by using an inadequate utensil is penny-wise and pound foolish. I'm glad I didn't get the salad. I hate like hell to have to carry my own fork into a restaurant. So I took 1 star off for that penny they saved. Shame on you Phillysteak! I would've said something to the owner who was actually working behind the counter, but I figured by now, he has to, or should know if he's paying attention. Hopefully, he will after my review. Decided to stop by at lunch sense it's close to CSULB and it was definitely worth the one mile drive. I got the regular cheese steak with raw onions on top. It was amazing. From the bread to the steak, it was rich in flavor and super tasty. The steak was super juicy which indicated that they used a good quality steak. The staff were super friendly. Easily the best cheesesteak I've ever had, absolutely delicious every time and extremely consistent in every way. I see some reviews saying how it's great but not 'the best' so it might depend on how you feel about food in general but EVERYONE seems to agree it's at least extremely good...and if you read their reviews they often make it clear that they're being elitist about it being a chain and not some hole in the wall run by some random person because clearly any successful enough business to have more than one location is bad by default... The fries are also great and go perfectly with the cheesesteak. Prices are good, not fantastic but I feel like I get the exact value for the cost, not ripped off but not getting a good price either, just the exact price that sounds right. Used to go in-person, the staff (and I believe owner or franchisee?) are all always very nice and welcoming. Very generous portions of the ingredients and of great quality and taste. The bread that is used for the sandwiches is to die for and the side of pickle peppers gave the hoagies extra flavor and spice. In addition, we had two of their sides, onion rings & fries. The fries are crispy, well seasoned, and full of flavor. The onion rings are fried to perfection. The rings were crispy, yet fresh, and the batter very savory. The sides definitely complemented and added that extra element to an already great Hoagie! This is our first visit and we were extremely satisfied in the quality of the food. Let's move on to customer service. Before placing an order online, I called the restaurant and spoke with "Melissa" to ask for recommendations. Philly's Best is one of my favorites. They have their rolls shipped in from Philadelphia here. My favorite order is the Cheesesteak with sweet peppers. I love those sweet peppers. Really add to the sandwich. I have tried the steaks with cheese whiz, with sauce and other toppings but always go back to the cheesesteak with peppers. For sides you can order fries, cheesefries, cheesesteak fries and pizza fries. They also have all kinds of cool stuff from Philadelphia here like Tastykake, Wise potato chips and Frank's sodas.
