I drove to Santa Monica just to taste the yummy goodness of a mint mojito; my fav drink @ Philz! Then they opened one in the O.C. Huntington Beach located at Pacific City. Parking was very difficult but luckily someone was leaving just as we drove in. Upon entering the establishment, the line for coffee was already very long. Luckily, my bf had the Philz Coffee app available on his phone and we just ordered through that platform. Did you know they have decaf now?! And they were able to make me a drink that was 90% decaf and 10% caf so that I could have the flavor of my beloved Philtered Soul "decaf." I was very impressed by the service yesterday between 4 and 5 pm, as I eagerly needed a boost to complete my road trip to San Diego. The cashier let me know that if I was up all night, to come back the next day and get a free drink. This was a true win and I got a good night's rest. As surprising as it is to everyone I tell, I had never been to or tried any of Philz Coffee. I was never a morning person before quarantine nor did I drink any caffeinated drinks in general. It was really popular about three-five years ago when I first started university, but I decided that now was the time! Of course, I ordered the "Mint Mojito" and it's pretty good. I also tried its "Philtered Soul" and it's refreshing and very coffee-y as well. Perhaps next time I'll add in more cream and less ice! Be back to try more when I'm in a coffee-mood :-) read more

It hurts my heart to give Philz anything other than a rave review. This review is about this store, not the coffee itself. I've been to at least 10 Philz locations up and down the state of California. From HB to Studio City to SF. Their coffee NEVER disappoints. (5 stars for coffee + 1 star for this store = my 3 star rating.) I've been going pretty routinely to this location while on a project in the area. I get there within 60-90 minutes of it opening, so I can confirm the state of the store is not because of thoughtless customers, or an anomaly, but rather a lazy closing and opening staff. The tables are always filthy. Part of my routine has become to use the (sometimes filled) water jug and napkins to wipe down my work area, which consistently has coffee spots, crumbs and other yuck. The bathrooms are disgusting, often without toilet paper. There are thick layers of dust on the back of the toilet and the seat cover holder.... As if it they are actually never cleaned. And the staff is borderline rude. Part of the Philz brand experience is friendly, personalized service. It's why I (and so many others) go out of our way, past many Starbucks, to get our coffee. It finally got to the point where I couldn't get past the lack of cleanliness. If the customer facing areas are that dirty, wtf does the back of house look like? I've been in food service and hospitality for years... and a dirty front of house is usually not a good sign. If you're looking for great coffee - get it to go. And maybe from another location? The flavored coffees, traditional hot coffee, iced coffees... they're all amazing. But if you grab one here, don't forget to sanitize on your way out. read more

I had a mint mocha mojito and it was the bomb BUT we got there, and while I appreciate they are open during Coronacraycray, we are met with you have to download the app to order!!! You cannot wait in line, order and pay - like a normal human!!! I thought, isn't this discrimination against anyone who does not have a smart phone or bank account? There are all kinds of laws against discrimination and there should be a law against this as well! I asked to see a manager and I was told no I see how they are doing the best they can to cater to tyrannical governmental leadership and play their part in the whole plandemic but they have a gate which requires everyone to touch to enter or exit... it's not being held open or sanitized or even thought about...yet, you cannot accept cash, have to be told every five seconds to stand six feet apart and wash your hands... read more

This is my first time at Philz Coffee at the Irvine location. It has plenty of parking & outdoor seating. It's still super busy but I received my drink fairly quickly! I got the Iced Coffee Rosé in the house way with a substitute of creamy oat milk. I love it's subtle sweetness & I don't have to adjust it any further. It's light, refreshing & made with a hint of rosé taste. My second go to would be the iced coffee mint mojito of course! This location is right by South Coast Plaza (not in the same plaza), so perfect if you need a little pick me up after shopping! read more

I'm going to preface this by saying I love the drinks here, the atmosphere is usually friendly, and the coffee beans are a staple for my morning coffee. That said, I'm pretty disappointed with how today's order went. I had a mobile order scheduled for pick up (ordered this way bc I ran a grocery stand first and had frozen stuff in the car, luckily in an insulated bag) that ended up being 15 minutes late and had to be remade bc it ended up being wrong. I watched two of the baristas at the mobile pick up line. One was very seriously making drinks and focused on that, and the one working on my order, I later found out, was talking to two of her other Coworkers about frozen margaritas and whatever else, then stop to fool around and one of the other coworkers she was chatting with start spraying her and her other coworker with an unlabeled bottle and also sprayed the area around the work station. As I watched this, I hope that the bottle was just water, hopefully clean. I also watched the barista working on my drinks laugh into her gloved hands and continue to work on the drinks. I understand when people are busy and there can be delays. But there's a difference between delays because of costumer volume, and delays when someone is just fooling around. read more

I am really enjoying this coffee spot. The 1st time I read about mint in my coffee I cringed a bit. I knew I would not like it. but the reviews ... Ive gone in 2 times now and am still trying to convince myself that I wont like it. I really enjoyed the "Mint Mojito" and am still a lil surprised. I thought the line both times went fast. The baristas are super friendly and attentive. They want to make it custom and dial it in for you so you are 100% happy walking away. Parking may become a bugger as this place populates more, so far I have been lucky. I do afternoon coffee runs here so I suspect the morning is more buzy. I've been here 3 times and the experience is worse and worse each time. First time here, I did a mobile order for a Chai latte (hot). Since I picked normal sweetness they didn't add any sweetness.. I was told later after complaining how terrible it was that normal means no sweetness. Okay, now I know for next time. Second time here, I ordered inside and got the same Chai latte (hot) - this time with 100% sweetness (which would be the same as not mentioning a sweetness factor at any other coffee/tea place). Got the drink and it just tastes bad, like the milk wasn't streamed or something, I wasn't sure.. but it was just really bad. Third time.. going to quote this conversation word for word with the barista. Me: Hi, I'd like to order a hot chai latte. Barista: hi, oh I'm sorry we don't have espresso shots to make that type of chai. We could make you a dirty chai by adding hot coffee. Me: No I don't want any coffee in my chai, just tea and steamed milk with the sweetener. Barista: Oh we don't have steamers here to be able to make steamed milk, we just have hot cream and pour it over the tea. Me: ...how do you make lattes without a milk steamer? You just stir in hot cream for all your drinks? Barista: Yes, we've never had the need for a steamer and people love our drinks. Me: Ok well just hot cream then with my chai. Glad to see this bay area based coffee shop here in the OC. This location was a stones throw from our hotel thankfully. Really cute and chill layout with lots of seating. I asked the barista for a recommendation this morning. I told her I wanted something hot, sweet, and non-dairy. She made me a hot philtered soul with almond milk (they also had vanilla soy and oatmilk). My drink had a medium boldness, not too sweet or acidic. The hubs got a hot chocolate which he really enjoyed. I very much appreciated a few gluten and dairy sweet food options. Other coffee shops take note! I got gluten free toast topped with jam and almond butter, and it was a perfect snack to have with my coffee. I would definitely return to this location if I was in the area. read more

The mint iced coffee is my favorite! It's soo good and refreshing. I love their coffee! This is a nice location as well. They have plenty of seating inside and outside. It's a perfect place to study or get some work done and they also have plenty of charging outlets. This place gets super busy and it doesn't matter what time of day you go! The only down side is the small parking lot. Parking is limited and you have to park in the other parking lot and you also have to pay for parking too! Ok at first I didn't understand the hype around Philz but after coming in a few more times and trying their iced coffee I'm really impressed. I order the new Manhattan with extra cream and sweetness and it tastes amazing. It's rich, creamy, and sweet! The baristas here are always so friendly and welcoming, they make this experience a 5 star experience. Ahhhh I absolutely love the Mint Mojito Iced Coffee from Philz! It's a new must-have for me every time I go to California! This location is located across the street from South Coast Plaza and tucked away in a little business park. Love the coffee here but parking is a bit tight and scarce unless you go into the garage which is a longer walk + you need parking validation. The cashier was really friendly but the baristas seemed to be having a rough day and were pretty rude when we went today. Hopefully it was just a one-time thing. Would still recommend Philz Coffee but if you're in a hurry, this probably wouldn't be the best location to swing by. read more

Each cup of coffee at Philz is customized to your personal preference and if you're not happy with it, the barista is more than happy to change it to your liking. I've tried the mint mojito, iced coffee rose, and philharmonic soul. One thing I love about Philz is that you can substitute the dairy for oat milk without extra cost (yay for all my non-dairy friends). Philz is known for their mint mojito. It's a classic, so if it's your first time here, I would recommend ordering that! If you like rose, then I highly recommend the iced coffee rose. It is my favorite drink from there! This Philz is pretty spacious with seats on both sides and outlets against the walls. It's a nice study spot, but it can get pretty packed on the weekends. If you don't want to wait in the long line, I recommend downloading the app and ordering from there :). They have a lot for parking, but I believe it's only 2 hour free with validation. Initially, I was headed to grab my morning coffee at the Starbucks in the lobby where I was staying but it appeared that their only employee was on lunch. Ain't nobody got time to wait for 30 minutes for a much needed injection of caffeine when their migraine already kicked in! So, I got in my car and headed over to Philz. When I lived here 16 years ago, this location didn't exist. I rarely get a chance to visit Philz even though I live 2 blocks away from the one in downtown LA. But this Philz was different, it was massive and shiny. I loved how there was so much parking and plenty of seating space inside. The ordering structure was a bit confusing but the staff made up for it with their friendliness! I wanted a Mint Mojito but not iced because I love my coffees warm. Ryan explained to me how I shouldn't have it warm because... well, I'm not even going to pretend that I understood a single thing that he said about the pressure. So.... he asked me if I liked hazelnut! I said I loved hazelnut but it's so hard to find a decent cup of hazelnut coffee here in Murika so I gave up. I used to drink them everyday at Second Cup in Toronto! He offered to have me sample his stellar concoction of a Turkish Hazelnut delight. Okay, who would decline that? Well Mr. Ryan was by far the best barista I've had in my life. I don't know when I'll ever see Ryan again or get to relive that amazing cup he made me with so much thought but it was by far one of the best memories of coffee I've experienced.
