We went for a coffee stop after a morning workout. The parking lot is fairly small and half of it is a one way street. It wasn't super crowded inside and we were able to order as soon as we were ready. They have a decent amount of options and flavor combinations available. We tried the Nutty Caramel Nirvana and a Mocha Tesora to drink and ordered a breakfast burrito to go with it. The service was very average, there wasn't much conversation and they weren't really helpful when we asked questions. More specifically, when we ordered we asked for a breakfast burrito (not realizing that there was more than one option) and the person at the register asked which one and when we asked what kind they had she just looked in the general direction of one of the display cases and didn't say anything. Not the worst interaction, but the experience could've been better if she had taken the time to help us. The burrito turned out to also be very okay. It was only a little bit bigger than the packet of Cholula that came with it and did not have a lot of contents in it. The drinks were also very average. The coffee flavor was not very strong and the add ins didn't offer much of an improvement. It was very difficult to taste any of the flavors/ingredients that were supposed to be added to the drinks. This could've been my fault, but by the time we finished the Nutty Caramel Nirvana, there was just one large mound of cinnamon that wasn't very pleasant to consume at the end. read more

I walked here from the hotel. Safe and walkable area. It's Halloween, so has been fun seeing people's costumes! I had the gingerbread latte, hot. So delicious and better than pumpkin anything! Who doesn't love Philz Coffee? This location is located across from South Coast Plaza on the corner of Sunset/Bristol. The parking lot is VERY small but they do offer free 2 hour validation for the structure parking in the back. If you're in a rush definitely do a mobile order and you can pickup at the corner at the side entrance. Yeah we visit here just about every time we come to South Coast or need a good coffee fix in the area. The service is always top notch but the lines do get crazy long especially during peak morning/weekend hours! They do have a nice patio area and plenty of indoor seating if you're looking for a good meetup/study spot. They patio is dog friendly and there is free wifi. read more

Having more Philz Coffee locations around OC is good, but then, there's just something that's different from when they first came to OC and there were only a couple of locations. The coffee is good. The service is fine. But, something is different. Anyway. In general, I love the fact that you can order online through the Philz app. It is such a timesaver! With this specific location, there is very limited parking directly out front. There is a structure, but it is a few minutes' walk. If you have ordered online and are literally just popping in to pick up your drink, it's really more convenient to park out front. Shortly after I moved to Orange County and at the time the nearest Philz was DTLA! The moment I found out there was going to be one in OC/Costa Mesa I was super excited! I have been coming to this location ever since! Today, out all of all the times I have came here my coffee was absolutely the best and it made by Kat! Kat made my Mint Mojito the way how I truly like it... extra creamy, sweet, with light ice! I had to go back and tell her she did an excellent job! It's already airborne, praying it's only allergies. She arrived but didn't want a drink. That's okay... I wanted to try a light-roasted coffee. This was my latest pattern in coffee drinking. I thought that lighter roasts had a subtle sweet taste than the bolds and mediums. I asked the barista which of them she recommended. She suggested the Dancing Water with notes of brown sugar, biscuit, and citrus was the choice to make. I went with it and waited for them to make my medium-sized cup of java. A few minutes later, my coffee was ready. I grabbed my drink and mentioned we'd best be heading out as the shop was prepping for the end of the business day. Oh, by the way, plenty of varied parking from spaces in the front (2 hr max for Philz), there were some unmarked too (assuming no time limit), and then there was the parking structure (also 2 hr max but with validation). Went in and purchased some coffee and sat outside at one of the many outdoor tables they provided. Great coffee! Coffee review: The past two times I came here, my coffee was not good. I was immediately hesitant when I got my cup and noticed it was way too hot of a temperature - it was extremely hot and took 15-20 minutes to get to drinking temperature. I drink my coffee black, and it tasted burnt both times. I would expect more from Philz. :( Review as a place to study/work: I enjoy coming here to study. The wifi is fast and there are bathrooms that are maintained. Most of the chairs aren't the most comfortable though, they are hard wood with no cushions. Additionally, parking can be difficult as the surface lot parking is very limited, and you only get 2 hours validated for the structure. I do love Philz and this is the closest location to me, so I will be back. I just think they need to do a better job with quality measures and training the baristas. read more
