Really pleased to find this Philz right off Van Ness on my way to work. Just like any other Philz, I recommend ordering ahead on the mobile app. Parking was not too bad on a weekday morning. Always ordering my Iced Mint Mojito. My previous fave was Tesora but sometimes it is too strong for me to stomach. Pick up was super easy, the staff here turn the cups with the names to face the door so we can just walk in and easily find our cup. Loved the vibe, coffee selection, Pride decor, friendly staff and seating. I really like that each cup came out with a label that had my name and drink type for my group of four. No confusion. I got a large Ether, black, really good. Hot, but drinkable. The others got various flavored ice drinks. I tried one. Really good, like liquid candy. Just to preface, I've been drinking Philz coffee for a while now. I actually have a friend who orders their beans all the way to New York and that's where I first tried it. To my surprise when I landed in San Francisco I found an actually brick and mortar location! It was a no brainer. I had to go in and try, and I'll have you know I wasn't disappointed! Philz Russian Hill is a super nice space to have a morning, midday or afternoon or evening respite. Really you ask? The blond wood interior makes the cafe look light and clean. Very Scandinavian. When I visited, the cafe had an abundance of Starter Bakery pastries (croissants, chocolate croissants, kougin amanns, morning buns). On the savory side, there was avocado toast! Yummy. I had several bites of a friend's toast. So happy, that Russian Hill has another fine establishment in the neighborhood. Let's keep the neighborhood lively and vibrant with these solid businesses. I love going to coffee shops to enjoy the setting, people watch, enjoy my drink, and sometimes just to get out of the house for some much needed fresh air. I've never been to Philz, however flashback to high school and the it cup to carry in hand were Mint Mojitos from Philz. I find the taste of mint repulsive as I equate this to toothpaste, so I knew right off the bat I did not want to order this even though it's what people associate with the cafe. Via their app, I ordered a small Tesora with medium oat milk, no sugar, light ice and because there was a promotion, I got a free cup size upgrade. If only the Tesora was delicious, I would've greatly enjoyed the free cup size upgrade, but like what I read in previous reviews, it tasted watery and flavorless. Although, it was seated nicely on the pick-up counter by the time I stepped foot through the door, it only took a few sips for me to realize that this was not the one. I kindly asked the barista nearby the counter if I could get my drink remade as it tasted watered down. She did not look happy, but I would've rather asked for a redo than not try at all. Plus, at the same time, she didn't make the drink itself, so I don't understand why she looked offended. Within a few minutes later, the drink was remade, and I was looking forward to a second shot at my first drink at Philz. As I began to take a few sips, I realized the drink tasted even worse than the first one that tasted watered down. I didn't want to ask again for my drink to be remade because it could've ended up tasting more watery than the previous times. What I do like about Philz is how uniquely designed the app is, the cleanliness of the cafe, and the communal sink layout when leaving the bathroom. If you plan to spend time indoors enjoying your drink, chances are an employee will approach you and ask for proof of vaccination, which happened to me. I didn't mind as it's nice knowing Philz takes protocol seriously, and I showed them a photo of my card since I didn't have it on me. I'm not too sure I'll be back as $3.73 is pretty pricey for watery coffee, however this makes me realize how fortunate I am for establishments such as Home Coffee Roasters, Andytown, and Blue Bottle. read more

Philz will and always will be my go-to coffee shop. The atmosphere in this store is really chill, the employees are super nice, and it's a great place to come relax, do some work, or just do whatever. I always come here whenever I need to study. It's quite spacious and I don't feel like I'm claustrophobic whenever there's people inside. Aside from their coffee, they even have pastries as well. I always get the Philtered Soul or their infamous Mint Mojito as my number 1's. They're both so good and I highly recommend getting either one. The Philtered Soul basically has this hazelnut flavor and it's so nutty and delicious. And the Mint Mojito, which is a classic here, is basically this minty coffee that's just so addicting. I always get my coffee with creamy oat milk because that's the superior milk for all lattes and coffee. And you can't change my opinion on that. read more

I am truly sad to be leaving a bad review for Philz's coffee because I've enjoyed their coffees for the longest time. I love their Tesoro, Mint Mojito. However, my last visit at this location was such an unpleasant experience that I almost feel betrayed by this company. Just like many franchises, you expect the taste of their products would be standardized while it might not be the best quality. Most of the Philz coffee locations I've visited have pretty consistent service and decent taste of coffee. This place has been the exception since they opened its location on Polk street. I really hope this place would deliver the similar quality of coffee and service as other Philz locations since I live pretty close by. Despite of inconsistency in their coffee and service, I did not mind till my last visit when my Tesora tasted like a water, blend and flavorless. I could have stayed longer at the store to actually taste it and ask to remake but, the service was so horrible at the point I did not want to stay longer. The online orders are mixed up with in person orders so you don't even know where to pick them up. The staffs who are being asked where my coffee is obnoxiously unpleasant as if they hate their jobs. I am wondering why my coffee tastes like a water but the unhappy demeanor of the staffs perhaps reflect the outcome of the tasteless coffee. I've been a huge fan of Philz coffee, however, this place totally terminated my relationship with Philz. read more

It has been a while since I had a cup of Joe from Philz's. We all know that the local coffee company is continuously adding more locations. I am happy that the local coffee company has come to "my neck of the woods" in the Russian Hill neighborhood. My debut of the newest location, which was opened back in November of 2019, I had Philz's Mocha Tesora. For $4.25, the medium-size and medium roast blend is the perfect remedy for my long day ahead of me. What is also new from Philz is the newest drinkware from Yeti for $35. The durable 20oz mug is a great souvenir item. "You know you want one of those mugs!" What befuddled me is the questionable low rating for this particular location. The baristas are trained well. The lounge area is nice and a great place to handle your business. I don't have any issues with this new location. This particular spot has had many failed businesses and never found a consistent business to stay. But this new Philz's location is a keeper and a welcoming addition to the area. read more

I've never been to such a rude coffee house, and I live in Los Angeles. As other reviews have mentioned, no one bothers to even look up at you there or help guide you to the area to order (it was my first time there and their line is slightly confusing). All these hipsters are soooo busy making their craft of coffee that they can't even direct a customer obviously in need. The coffee itself was standard.
