Since my last review, I've been coming to Philz almost every day before work. It's even earned a spot on my monthly budget spreadsheet. Ever since Sweet Harmony was released earlier this year, I've been hooked--it's everything I love in a cup: coffee, muddled mint, and a hint of cinnamon. I'm hoping its place on the permanent menu might be considered. That said, the past few weeks have been disappointing. I've noticed a sharp drop in consistency and quality. Just this week, my coffee had zero sugar, despite my order tag clearly stating "medium." No big deal--I asked the barista to add it. But the very next day, my Sweet Harmony was missing almost everything that makes it what it is. It barely had any oat milk (despite ordering it "creamy"), and there was no trace of cinnamon or mint. Photos below show how flat and un-creamy it was, with the signature mint and cinnamon completely absent. At $7 a cup, that's a pretty big letdown--especially when Philz is one of the highlights of my morning routine. I'll probably be cutting back on my visits until the consistency improves. It's tough to justify coming daily when I don't know what version of my drink I'm going to get. On a positive note, a handful of the more familiar faces--especially Anthony and another gentleman (I'll update once I catch his name)--still deliver excellent drinks every time. When my order lands with one of them, I know it'll be made right. When it doesn't... it's a gamble. Big fan of the fall menu as it rivals the larger chains, giving stiff competition and the desire to return and try all that they offer. I also love the location since it's a walk across from UCSF hospital. Perfect spot to get fresh air, coffee and a chocolate croissant in the mornings and not feel rushed. A huge plus is that all the workers seem friendly, which is a really nice way to start the day. read more

Being able to work close by to Philz has been a blessing! Overall love the coffee and the taste is always consistent and what I'm looking for. The service is super friendly as well, the only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that it does take a little longer than expected to get a drink. Maybe it's due to the need to blend different drinks and beans at all times, but it overall is a place I will continue to go to happily. read more

I love coming to this philz coffee, it's so spacious and their drinks are always amazing. definitely a great place for a weekend grind or just enjoying a book or puzzle. the vibes are on the more chill side but they can totally accommodate bigger parties too! of course I love the drinks, especially the iced mint mojito! the food is pretty par but as expected for a chain that focuses on their coffee. I'll say their breakfast burrito and almost croissant are the best, but both have that frozen / preservative food taste (kinda similar to starbucks food) overall great vibes, space and the distance to the water / oracle park is a great plus! read more

Staff is so friendly! I chatted with the cashier with the beautiful hot pink hair and they recommended a twist on my coffee that I LOVED. It's in a convenient location close to the Steel Bay Park (I believe it's called?) that has pieces of steel from the old bay bridge. Recommend walking around with a Philz's! read more

Even with the app, this location is slow!! Coffee is extra creamy if you get a latte and the coffee is decent.

The coffee here was as good as you'd expect from a Philz, and so was the ambience! The reason for the 4 stars is because we ordered ahead and the shop canceled one of the drinks due to being out of a certain ingredient. Now that alone isn't a problem, but they refunded the money and we got no notification and by then it was too late in our schedule to order something different. Now that may not seem like much, but try skipping your morning coffee and see if you feel like giving a 5-star review. read more

Philz always hits and this is a very spacious and convenient location near the Chase Center! The staff are always very friendly and helpful, and their drinks are great too - always well-balanced, creamy if you want it to be, and not too sweet (great for taste buds like mine haha). Lots of seating with small tables and chairs with outlets on the walls and plenty of natural light from the huge windows. The only con is that it may take a while for your drink to be made, but it's worth it. Overall: 5/5 read more

This is probably my second home, I'm here almost everyday. The location is so convenient, it's across the street from where I work. And bc I'm here frequently, I've gotten to know the staff. Shout out to Tyler! I love sitting on the comfy armchairs in the back. It's so nice to just melt into them. This is the place I get my afternoon chais (medium oat milk, light sugar). I love their chais bc one they're affordable, even after a price increase, and two, I like mine spicy and they do it just right in my opinion . I tend to get the small which is $4.45 and they don't charge extra for oat milk! With the SF mandate, it comes out to $4.61. And that's pretty much anything you get on the menu. I've spent $7-8 on lattes elsewhere and that's just the norm. I think I support this business with 1% of my paychecks but I have to say I enjoy talking to the staff and my drinks end up tasting yum. read more

This Philz is spacious and has lots of places to sit both inside and a few outside. There's never usually a line here and the drinks come out perfectly and quickly! There's not too many plugs here but if you are looking for somewhere to casually hang out, then this is great for you. It is right next to Chase Center so ideally you'd already be in the area. I wouldn't come park here just for Philz. I love the Mint Mojito, but recently I've been getting the Ecstatic Iced Coffee (because it has one of the highest caffeine contents but sweet chocolate flavor) or the Philtered Soul with a hint of hazelnut. If you have never been to Philz, then just know it's not your typical coffee shop. I always order my coffee "Sweet and Creamy"! If you don't like how your drink comes out, you can always let the barista know and they will remake the drink to your taste. Usually it's always great for me though :) read more

I only leave comments when it's truly bad service. I will never understand the entitlement of baristas at Philz, serving coffee and premade food might be the easiest job in SF yet the employees act like coffee divas. Refusing a second cup for my partners hot cup of coffee. Asking to remove cheese from a premade breakfast sandwich, seemed to them like a Herculean effort, as that would require actual work. They legitimately refused to remove a slice of cheese from a breakfast sandwich. Then told us it was against company policy. The greatest part is to encounter a tipping section after all that. I truly hope these employees meet unemployment soon. It's a tough job market, why are you people like this. What happened to customer service? Also here's a screenshot from Philz actual website mentioning they remove cheese.... Unfortunately this will be my first last last time being a customer at this Philz location, The young lady taking my order unfortunately took it wrong (which happens and is not the end of the world ) after receiving my incorrect order , I approached the young lady at the counter to give it back and ask for the correct item I ordered, she chose to rudely tell me how I was the one in the wrong when I placed the order and how I NEED to place my orders in the future , very odd on how I would get it wrong considering I make this same order 3-4 times a week every week for yrs at different locations and not one time did I have problems receiving the order that I placed OR maybe it was me and this particular Philz just does things differently then all other Philz and if that's the case then i apologize it's my fault and I'll follow the directions that was rudely instructed to me , it's not a big deal we all get things wrong at times especially if your taking orders from hundreds of "customers" daily but the way she automatically and rudely gave herself an excuse while putting the blame on me was very surprising and gives this location of Philz a bad look in my opinion, maybe she should not be working in direct contact with customers if she chooses to have such a horrible attitude , just my opinion , It is unfortunite I had this experience here at this location ,every other Friday I have infusion treatments across the street at ucsf and will need to find another place for the next 6 months , On a positive note all other staff were professional with upbeat pleasant attitudes that just maybe accountability is something they practice if or when needed , read more

I really don't think Dubs fans really need caffeine. By the time they get to Chase Center in packs, they're so jacked up on Warriors-ignited adrenaline that I pray they're ordering decaf. Otherwise I assume the baristas will need to peel them off the ceiling with a large blue & gold spatula. Otherwise I got no complaints about this particular location. Philz is Philz, and this one's pretty cavernous with a lot of Philz merch. Gee, where's the Dubs merch? Anyway, I got my $5.35 Large Silken Splendor without incident. Coffee again? Well, a perfect storm happened when my friend ran late in meeting me for the final Warrior home game of the season. Not wanting to hang out outside, I decided to grab a cold drink while waiting. Having only tried Philz twice before, I am not familiar with their menu so I asked the cashier for recommendations. She asked whether I was a fan of mint flavor and told her just so-so. I nursed this while sitting at a center table inside. The tables were nicely socially distanced so everyone seemed comfortable in the 30% occupied seating area. There was a steady flow of customers, a mix of game attendees and neighborhood work staff. There are a few outdoor tables and seats available too. The cashier was cheerful and energetic while the baristas were putting the drinks efficiently together. I had a minor mishap (spill) while trying to put a lid on my drink and one barista wiped down the mess I made on the counter. I've been to about 3 Philz Coffee establishments and while this is the most prettiest one, I honestly was kinda disappointed in my drink. I ordered a regular-sized mint mojito and was expecting some mint leaves on top of my drink as that is what other Philz locations do. As I shrugged that off, when I was tasting the drink, it barely tasted like there was any mint there. Usually, this drink has a strong mint flavor which is why I order it. Also, the sweetness of the drink isn't well dispersed so all of it was really overpowering as well as the mint at the bottom made it taste not so well. Philz is the only coffee that actually keeps me awake. Despite the long lines during peak hours the food and coffee always comes out fast. The staff are so nice and always makes my drink to perfection. For my usual order I love getting the bacon burrito and a Mocha Tesora. Super convenient location next to UCSF and the Chase Center. Long wait for cup of coffee. I asked where was the sugar. The server said we put it in for you and told me to put cup on counter. I asked her to pour off some of the coffee as the cup was overflowing. She looked at me as if I had just dissed her dog. Next time, she said, you order medium milk and sugar. I said, "Not likely. I won't be returning." I want to add the milk and sugar in amounts I prefer. I would like servers to be courteous. I do not want to be told how to order coffee in such a brisk manner. I've been coming to Philz a few times since May 1st (how long I've been in SF for). I've not been disappointed with a coffee at all! Perfect from every barista. Today (the 20th) I came in and the barista right off the back was so nice to me! I let her know this may be my last Philz coffee til the next time my partner and I are in town. (We've been here recovering from surgery) she was so quick to make my coffee on the house! Which never happens to me so it made me feel really good. I think this location is severely understaffed. I walked in and there were a couple of people inside, and no line. About three people behind the counter. I waited for a few minutes and no one said anything - finally, walked up to the person who was staring at the register and asked if this is where I should order. I was only ordering two drip coffees because I needed to get to an appointment and I figured that would be fast. The cashier very dryly told me it would be 15 minutes for two drip coffees. I have worked in the service industry so I am definitely sensitive to service staff, but 15 minutes for two drip coffees is kind of wild. I would have been happy if they just tossed me the cups so I could pour it myself. I almost didn't take it because I was going to be late, but I said yes anyway. $10 for two regular old hot coffees with nothing in them. Yikes. When the coffees did come out, the barista tossed the lids mouthpiece down on the high-touch counter surface...just me that finds that icky? Why can't the lids be on already? Remember, these are black coffees, and I totally forgot that Philz "does it for you" in terms of adding the coffee fixings. I know some people like this, but when I literally just need a splash of cream and sugar, I find that business model super inconvenient. When I politely remarked that I forgot Philz does it that way, the worker barked at me and said "Well, I can add it for you, but it has to be cream, then." I didn't even suggest that I wanted a milk alternative, so I was surprised by how curt her reply was - I still said "that's fine," but she didn't make any move to add the milk for several minutes. To myself, I said forget it, and left. Someone next to me had already been waiting 25+ minutes for a larger order with no drinks out yet. To me, that should signal to management that they need to hire more baristas. I feel bad blaming the baristas because you can only make so many drinks when you only have three people... When I ordered, the cashier told me the reason for the wait was because they had a lot of mobile orders ahead of me. I get that, but I do think also prioritizing people who come in and order is important. Is it possible to have two people focus on the mobile orders only, and two people on walk-in orders? It is frustrating that drinks sit there waiting for mobile order folks to come in, meanwhile people who ordered in-person are waiting a long time for simple coffees. As a result, I think that might be why the staff wasn't super friendly. Maybe they're burnt out from being so busy, I don't know. The overall taste of the coffee was fine, but I had to source my own milk and sugar from the place I had my appointment in, which was not ideal. One of my favorite coffee houses in the City and we have no shortage of coffee places here. This one is nearby the Chase Center, UCSF, UBER, etc. The staff here are so friendly too. Lots of tables available for enjoying coffee and doing some work outside the office. This location has two unisex bathrooms and both kept pretty clean. All the Philz I have been to also has puppy treats and this is no exception. Thanks for yummy coffee, great service and nice interior. read more

What a great addition to thrive city! Located in the corner behind dumpling time, right next to the entrance of Uber! we've been anticipating the open of this new Philz location! Decided to stop by at lunch time to grab a coffee with some coworkers. Walking up to Philz there was lots of Uber employees sitting outside since it is in the middle of Mission Bay Campus. It was a nice day to hang out outside, sitting in the sun and lots of people took advantage of there outdoor seating to grab some coffee. I decided to try out a Mocha Tesora with almond milk & bacon and onion pretzel. My best friend grabbed a Mint Mojito ice coffee and chocolate croissant. Since this was my first time trying Philz I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed seeing that they have a wide variety of pasty's available. I liked my coffee, wasn't bitter and not over sweet ( but still would have perfected it sweeter for my taste but really good either way) , next time I know to order it sweetened and extra hot, it was a bit too Luke warm for me but I also like my coffee extremely hot. I really enjoyed my bacon and onion croissant, nice and warm, crispy but flaky. Would definitely get again. He said his Mint Mojito Iced Coffee was good too, creamy and sweet and not too strong. The amount of mint added was good and he really liked the presentation of the coffee and how it stayed within the traditional way a Mojito is presented. He hadn't had it in a long time and was better then he remembered. He definitely would get it again. Really like the seating inside, very spacious and inviting. Long counters of barristas making coffee, they Even have a small table of Philz coffee and tshirts for you to buy. You can never go wrong with a trip to Philz, but this location in particular impressed me more than some of the others that I have been to. They are quicker than most locations, and the baristas have always been very friendly. There's plenty of seating options, and it's a good place to read a book or get some work done! One star for adding a junk fee to the price. They charge an "sf health mandate" fee. It does not to be separated out, it is a deceptive practice. Do better. Other than that, I would give it 2 or 3 stars as this location has no soul and the cashiers aren't very friendly compared to other locations. Cheers. read more

This is a large spot to get a cup of coffee near the UCSF location in Mission Bay and Chase Center. It is clean and has lots of seating. Staff is friendly. They have a surprisingly limited selection - no espresso, whole milk, etc. But, if you just need a basic cup of coffee, this is a good place to come. read more
