Came here Friday morning because I've been wanting to try their coffee for the longest time!! My boyfriend got the Pandan coffee and I got the durian coffee!! Hands down the durian was the best between the two! It was just a nice subtle durian flavor but the sweetness was just perfect! I'll come back just for the durian coffee!! Went here twice. The first time, very slow making the drink. It took 20 mins. Most of the food selection is sold out by 1pm. Once I got the drink, it was good cold and a lil pandan treat. The next week, I tried in the morning so I can order a few food options. The morning cashier wasn't too friendly. Was kinda abrupt and cold. Like her coffee hadn't kicked in. I order a milo mocha and a cold pandan again. Then I order the California Musubi. The food was good and the drink equally good. Parking here is super small so be patient or come in the morning. Wait time average is 12 mins for food and drinks. Not sure how the food ordering is, but be prepared to wait. read more

Phin Cafe is a must-visit for egg coffees! Their egg coffee is strong and definitely gives you a boost, so you'll feel energized in no time. My bf tried the durian egg coffee and he almost yacked. For someone that hated durian, I would expect that to be the normal reaction lol. I actually enjoyed the durian coffee a lot but my burps stank like durian. The place is usually really packed and there isn't lots of seats available so I usually just grab my drinks and go. It's not really a spot to study or to hang out in my opinion since it's a bit crowded and noisy. read more

So happy they have a location here in the bay, especially in San Jose. The location parking is not the best, it fills up because they have a thrift store in the same plaza. We walked in and all the tables were filled up with students and others studying. They have a large menu with multiple options for flavor. I went with the egg coffee to start as a base. The other flavors I was tempted to try were the durian or ube. I'll probably try those next time when i come back. The egg coffee was on par with other egg coffee drinks from other nearby stores. I mean that in a good way. It's a new trend here in the states but a classic over in Vietnam. Awesome place, it just seems like if you want to sit down here that it might be hard to find a table right away if you aren't here early. I've only been here once. It was a spur of the moment that was not planned with a group of friends. We simply just wanted vietnamese coffee and this was amongst a list of highly rated locations. Parking was a bit difficult to find during busy hours as the lot was pretty small and shared amongst a few other stores. Indoor seating seems like it can be packed during the evening time, but that is just my speculations. They seem to have a few food options but I was not in thr hunger mode to order any. Cannot speak to any of those food quality yet. I was expecting a more shorten and straight forward vietnamese coffee selection, but there was quite a bit. You have a decent range of coffee to milk tea to select from. Good for people who likes options. But for me, a short simple menu shows your handcraft specialty to direct the focus toward standing out. We had a hard time deciding what to order. Eventually asked the cashier for advice and was directed towards a Pandan Coffee. Overall, everything we ordered had a nice aroma to it. I personally felt like the Pandan flavor overkilled the taste of a traditional vietnamese creamy coffee. I probably would not get it again and would try something else. Decided to come here in the middle of the work day for a coffee break and banh mis. The cafe was super cute, would love to come back some day to work out of here. The drinks were also really good! I got the pandan Vietnamese coffee and the pandan cream on the top of the drink was so delicious - wasn't too sweet which is what I like. I also got the combination banh mi which was good and flavorful. I liked the variety of meats inside of the banh mi but I've definitely had better elsewhere. They didn't put a lot of filling and protein inside the sandwich and if you want extra veggies or meats that comes at an extra cost. Overall had a good experience here though and the drinks were great. Definitely would come again to try more items on the menu. read more

I've never had Egg Coffee before because there's actually no place that makes this in the Bay Area. I've seen places in LA or TX that have this. Finally, someone jumped on the hype and opened this in the Bay Area!! Let me just say, this is so goooood! So far I've only tried the Pandan coffee and the Egg coffee. The coffee portion at the bottom is so good and I love the taste when I mix the pandan or egg with it. It's very creamy and sweet. Their food menu also looks great but I haven't tried anything yet. I take away one star because it's pretty pricey. If you are lactose intolerant, I DONT recommend coming here haha! read more

What a cute shop - small but tastefully decorated. I had no idea this was in my area until I yelped "banh mi sandwiches" near me. It's kinda hidden in the Goodwill shopping center at the corner of Blossom Hill and Snell. I ordered the grilled pork sandwich, and it was very good. It's a little pricier ($7.50) than the shops along Senter, Tully and Story but there's less competition in Blossom Valley. Oh they have spam musubi on the menu! You know the economy is bad when a drink costs $7. Still, it's hard to find a coffeehouse with coffee this rich. Phin does not disappoint when it comes to Vietnamese coffee, which is known for being rich and strong. This việt coffeehouse specializes in a variety of coffee drinks and milk/fruit teas. Its menu contains classics like egg coffee (cà phê trứng) and more standard milk tea drinks like rose milk tea. The coffee here is rich, creamy, full of depth, and so so fragrant. Not sure what coffee beans they use, but they taste very similar to coffee I've had in Vietnam in terms of flavor profile. Love that the drinks are served over crushed ice, similar to how ca phê sữa đá is normally served in Vietnam. Everything about this shop feels very authentic, down to the Vietnamese moms gossiping over drinks and food in the corner of the shop. Plenty of seating inside the store. Snack menu boasts a variety of Vietnamese street foods, which I'll have to try next time. Will be back!! read more

This spot needs to take notes from Da Vien in Socal. I was excited to visit this cafe in hopes of finding a spot in the bay with solid ube coffee and egg coffee. My boyfriend rated the egg coffee an 7/10 and the ube coffee was a solid 2/10. The coffee itself was alright and the ube had the most unpleasant texture. It didn't even take like ube. It tasted more like taro. The egg coffee tasted a lot better, but could still be improved. Maybe just stick to the food if you come here! read more

I'm trying to find more local coffee shops this year, and this was on my list. I tried a coconut coffee for the first time and asked for it medium sweetness, which turned out to be a good call. The coffee taste wasn't big and bold, but I really liked it. I also ordered 2 banh mis. The shaking filet mignon was pretty good, I liked how it came with peppers and onions. The pate one needed a little something extra, I ended up adding mustard and it all worked out! Next time I will have to try the egg coffee! read more

You have to try their egg coffee when you go to Phin. It is a small cozy hole in the wall next to Goodwill on Snell and Blossom Hills. The size will be significantly different if you order a cold egg coffee which will be in a medium togo cup size and hot egg coffee will be the size of the espresso shot - this is for when you order to sit there and drink. I love the creamy texture, the blended Aroma Of coffee and whisked eggs. I like how you can adjust the sweetness to your liking from regular sweet to less sweet. I also like the coconut coffee and would not recommend you order for delivery since the coconut ice cream ( i think) would melt. I also had the grilled chicken banh mi and it's pretty flavorful, the sandwich is crunchy. However, I don't think it worths $9 for a banh mi. Pandan waffles and egg puff were good, crunchy and the waffles come in thick texture. Overall, i think this can be a really nice place to hang out or study since it seems quite and their choice of music is very chilled and relaxing. read more

Phin Cafe is one of my go to coffee spots! Out of all the coffee shops that sell egg coffee in San Jose, I love it the most from here. Just know that the coffee here is STRONG. I don't have to drink much of it for it to wake me up. I've also tried the egg matcha and banana matcha and both were yummy! They have many flavor combinations for both the coffee and matchas. It came sliced in half with each crispy half individually wrapped. It was so great I rushed to come back the same weekend. This time the sandwiches were hugely disappointing. The bread was limp and soggy, the proportions in my combination were off. They weren't sliced in half either. Coffee was good though. The inconsistency could have been caused by a rush of customers. This place is a hit! Packed on a Sunday afternoon, but understandably so as it would make a great little study spot or hangout spot a less busy day. I really like that you can adjust the sweetness on their Viet coffees, which is something you can't do often at your local banh mi shop. We got the egg and coconut Viet coffees both less sweet and I thought that this was the perfect amount. The coconut coffee in particular was a stand out. They use some coconut cream that keeps the drink super light and balanced. Both were super strong as you would expect so definitely pace yourself. I was drawn to this place because they serve egg coffee, however, their interesting menu and quality kept me coming. I've also never had any problems with their service as they are always transparent and kind. The environment isn't too loud so I noticed a few people studying, however, I would still recommend bringing your own headphones/earphones. Egg Coffee (4/5) One of my go-to drinks and tastes great, but I prefer more egg foam on top. Ube Coffee (4/5) Super pretty drink with a subtle ube taste. I've had a few ube drinks from other places so I appreciate how this one doesn't stain my mouth purple after I mix it. Pandan Coffee (4/5) The pandan taste is subtle as well, however, I like to taste the foam separately before mixing the foam with the coffee. I appreciate the little wafer straw they add. Durian Coffee (5/5) The amount of durian foam they add is perfect (as shown in the picture) and they use real durian. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few chunks of durian while sipping on my coffee. Grilled Chicken Banh Mi (4/5) This was first time trying their banh mi and tasted super good and flavorful while fresh. I thought I'd visit this place a few times before I wrote a review, so here goes! Take it in, soak it up! (Atmosphere) - Vibe checks out, always! Good energy flowing in and out depending on the time of day. Have never had a negative experience here with a large crowd or a small one. What I love about this place is when you're inside, it doesn't feel like San Jose at all. It feels like you're in vacuum of sorts, separated from the rest of the world. I think that's a pleasant part of their user-flow/user-journey (UX, hello hello), and a good metric for a café. Stop by, you'll see what I mean! Consume - Coffee is consistent in flavor profile and depth (have been here around 20 times this year, give or take). When I request one extra shot for a coffee consumable, I get it. When I request two extra shots, I get it. You can taste the difference and feel the strength between the two, and that's also another good metric for a café! Service - Positive. Friendly. Calm. All the time. I think all the time...yeah, all the time. Price - Fair, to me. Always leave a 20% tip! It's not much, but it's the gesture of appreciation. It's a nice spot to wind down your day in a fast-paced San Jose. Usually out here to catch up on some reading (an actual physical book; it's still a thing hah). I don't know why it took me so long to write a review for Phin, because I go here almost every other weekend. Having tried numerous Vietnamese coffee joints that have recently popped up in San Jose, I want to say that Phin Cafe is my favorite. Phin shares a parking lot with some other small businesses and a Goodwill. There's usually plenty of parking in the lot, but the lot itself is a little dilapidated: the lines are hardly visible. On weekends it may be a little difficult to find a spot. The store itself is not very big. There are a number of tables and seats inside and outside, but depending on when you arrive, it may be hard to find any open seating. Service is generally quick. Their Vietnamese coffee is what you'd expect from Viet coffee: dark, roasty, intense. They have a several variations, though I don't stray too far from a couple items: Egg Coffee - Hot and cold version are very different from each other. I do like the hot version on a cold day, but generally always get the cold version. The egg cream doesn't clump up like other places' egg cream. Salted Coffee - my favorite. The saltiness contrasts nicely with the bold coffee flavor. Sometimes the cream is not as salty as other times, so there's some inconsistencies. I've also tried a couple of their sandwiches. The standouts are the combo special and the shaking filet mignon. The other ones I've tried were not very memorable. read more

starting off their pandan coffee did it's job, i'd give it a 7/10. pandan flavor was there and the coffee is strong which i like a lot, however i think it was a tad bit burnt. chai coffee was awful, not going to sugar coat it, maybe it was just an unfortunate timing, but the chai was completely off. felt like we paid for watered down coffee. the ambience on the other hand is nice. love the modern wood slats all across the interior with plants being a nice accent. super aesthetic and comfortable to do long period of work in or even to chitchat with friends. read more

Went here today with my sister. The cafe itself is really cute and aesthetic and the cashier was nice and helped me pick out a drink. We got the YOLO and Pom Pom. The YOLO was too sweet and tasted weird for me but my sister really liked it and finished it all in the car ride home which was only like 15 minutes. The Pom Pom has a nice flavor and the boba was also good but I didn't like the addition of pomegranate seeds inside it. You cant really chew it with the boba. Might come back if I was in the area or wanted to sit down somewhere and have a talk. read more
