I've been a die hard Pho Tai aficionado since I first tried Pho, but after trying the Pho Duoi Bo (Oxtail Pho) at Pho Lu, it's neck to neck when trying to decide which is my favorite. The oxtail is served in a separate bowl which holds a generous hunk of meat that is so tender it shreds off the bone at the flick of your chopsticks. The fact that the bowl of Pho comes out pure and completely unadulterated with clear soup and only noodles is just another perk. On a cold, rainy day, nothing tastes better or warms you through like the Pho Duoi Bo here. read more

eh, i went here on 1-26-2010 after work. once again, i had a pho craving. i was going to go to pho quang, but decided to try something i never eaten before. my boss's brother told me how good this place was, being one of his favorites. i went there and thought the restraunt itself was very nice and clean, unlike other places =) . i ordered the mi' ga , not pho. & it was 'alright' i loved the chicken. it was clean, white meat & good size pieces which i appreciated =). but the broth was not as tasty. It was kind of bland... my friend and my boyfriend of course ordered the pho ga' they thought it was "okay" also. we are so use to eating the "fat noodle" , so i was a little let down when it was the thin one. i also like how they accomdate their customers by putting two televisions on while waiting for food, one with an american show and one with a vietnamese =) . this place is probably pretty good, but maybe i choice the wrong dish. i don't have any doubts on the success of this restaurant. goodluck, ill be back one day ! =) read more

Minus one star for running out of items on your menu. They run out of a lot of things...including oxtail pho...so if that's why if you are coming here, call ahead. I also asked for thick noodles and they said they ran out of that as well. Very sketchy if you ask me, we came at 11:30am and you already ran out of items?! The service was quick and the pho broth was just okay in my opinion. Nothing that stands out in terms of the pho. The egg rolls were super crispy on the outside and I was fan of the filling. They were a little skimpy when it came to the beef in the vermicelli bowl. Only real reason we came here is they show football on Sundays and my husband had to see the Chargers play! Service is pretty horrible, they never refilled our water. I'd probably give them another chance if the oxtail pho is as amazing as others make it out to be. I've been going to pho lu for maybe two years already and every time I come with my family there always has to be a piece of hair in my moms food and when I went today it happened again and the manager instead of not just saying sorry and not charging us for that meal she had the ordacity to get the hair and blame my mom for it and my family stood up for my mom saying that's not her fucken hair and if u think it was her then to check your fucken cameras then she got mad and took that hair and checked all of her coworkers hair to see if it was theirs and that's just not right at all if u come here ever check your food real food before eating it you family and I are never coming back here cuz we ended up paying for that dish she was so rude. read more

I've been here a couple of times and have to say both experiences were not memorable. Not to say it was horrible, just not spectacular. Portions were a little small but that's okay as I will eat everything that's given to me and pay for it in calories. Finally a pho place worth paying full price for! With the millions of pho joints in bolsa, this place so far has been the best I've encountered. The broth is to die for! The bowls are filled with larger portions of meat than other places and they give you a full plate of pho greens and a full plate of bean sprouts. I don't think I'll eat here again. My favorite was always the oxtail pho and they never have it, it's still on their menu but it's never available. The portion is also so small for the price. Initially wanted to try Pho Lu because the colorful lanterns made it look appealing at night. However don't let the appearance fool you. My first experience will be my last. The customer service was horrible. The waitress had no personality, they brought half of our food out packed to go, and left us waiting for over 10 minutes for the check. Customer service is horrible, and will never come back to Pho Lu located in the corner of Brookhurst and Westminster again. Last night was my first time @ Pho Lu with my family, and it would be my last time. Since it was the first time for some of us; therefore, we only ordered Pho with meatballs to be safe except my brother. He had been there couple times so he ordered the Pho with oxtails instead. He said that it was good to try, but it was too late to change so I requested extra bowl of oxtails without noodles. After taking the order, the server came back and told me that it would be charged the same price with or without the noodles. I told him that it would be fine. However, my mom told me to take the noodles home and eat only the oxtails. I asked the server, and he turned to ask his manager or the owner for approval. They discussed something, and the server came back to me and told me that they only serve the oxtails and noodles together; otherwise, I needed to order them to go. After hearing what the server told me, I did not want to argue with an unreasonable and non-sensed manager or owner. Therefore, I suggested the server to just make it to go instead. However, I did ask the server to please provide me a bowl so that my husband could try the oxtails only here. And, when they brought togo food out, the oxtails soup was warm not hot that you could see the fat was floating around. It looked and smell very strong when soup was not hot. I was speechless, but my husband tried to finish and not waste the food. How could they expect me to finish another bowl of oxtails Pho including noodles whereas I just finished a small bowl of soup and my husband was finishing his large bowl? What was wrong to just try something you order togo partialy at the restaurant and partialy at home? My family were there exactly for 1.5 hours until we left. I might be wrong to asked much, but it was very scary that your restaurant could last this long with that kind of attitude toward the customer. If food is bad, but good customer services, people still come back, but both are bad, you should know the answer. I hope that this review can be read by the management. 4 stars. thanks to fellow Yelp reviews, i ordered: - oxtail pho - jackfruit shake - and my standard appetizer, egg rolls the oxtail pho was so good, the meat fell right off the bone and in the end i combined the soups (they originally come in separate bowls) into one for the perfect brothy blend! even better, i was not thirsty later and did not have to deal with a msg hangover. egg rolls were also better than average as well. they came with a ton of veggies...perhaps to mitigate the fact that they were incredibly fried? oh, and one more thing. i had a bite of my friend's pho and i must say, the beef was tender and delicious. nothing like those thick slabs of flavorless beef that needs to be dunked in hot/fish sauce to consume. read more

I came here to eat pho ga since I don't eat red meat. My mom was persuading me to go bc she thought it looked good and it was like 50% off at the time. So I went and to my horror, all I could taste and see was fat! I felt like a person too a spoonful of lard and just put it in my bowl. It was disturbing to just be given a bunch of chicken skin and the broth being very oily and fatty. The flavor was just not right. I dont know about you but I like my broth kinda light but still flavorful. I was disappointed. If you decide to go here...steer away from the pho ga unless you like greasy broth. read more

This is my go to place when I crave for cow's blood soup. It's nothing to my favorite restaurant but I do come here often. Their pho is acceptable but not special. The thing is why I bother to even write a review is because their service is terrible. I came in to order a pretty complicated order, therefore, I apologized and asked the server if he needed me to repeat because I saw that he didn't even write it down. I did work as a server before and was pretty good memorizing my orders but it is late and the restaurant is busy so I just wanted to make sure. He said no that's fine. Guess what? He put in a complete different order. So I asked for a dish of beef medium rare, he brought out the rare and said we could just dip it in the soup. The thing is my friend likes it well done and I like it medium rare. There's always a reason why we ordered what we did, we were not trying to be complicated. read more

The food service at Pho Lu is horrible. My mom found hair in her dish as she was eating it and the manager was full on rude about it. She went to every person that worked there and literally measured the hair that was in her plate and the staff's hair. The manager continues to compare the hair after 10 mins and comes back to our table and said, "no one that works here has blonde hair," which is not true because there were multiple people that worked there and had blonde hair that have served us. To end this review, we ended up paying for the dish that had hair because the manager was already rude about the whole situation and completely did nothing about it! read more

Came here for the first time tonight with a friend and it was really good! I had pho with sliced beef and dumplings. When you first walk in, the ambience is really enjoyable and I really like the atmosphere. Everyone is having conversation over food but it's not too loud. The interior looks really new and is very clean inside. The seating is spacious and accommodates both smaller and bigger groups. The only downside (which is why I gave 4/5) is that the waiters speak no English. I actually really enjoy being in another culture like that, but it's very inconvenient to try to order when they speak no English at all. But the pho was delicious and I love that they put bean sprouts at your table to put into your pho. The serving was really big for only $9.50 and I left full. They have 100+ items to choose from so there's a good variety, whether you want soup or more of a plate dinner. But the staff were friendly and I really enjoy that they let you do your thing. They take your order, bring you your food, and that's about it. The bathrooms are really clean too. Definitely coming back. read more

Love this place!!! Now I can't speak for many of the dishes they have because I only eat chicken and fish BUT if it means anything, just know that their Chicken Pho broth is on point! The broth is clear, perfectly salted (cause even my other favorite pho spot can have you feening for a gallon of water) and well flavored. However, the customer service doesn't consist of pleasant interactions so don't expect warm greetings or random exchanges about the weather. Personally, I don't go there to make friends so it's fine with me. Walk-in and order the regular sized bowl, smile at all the pho goodness while slurping down noodles and leave. Lastly, they get extra points for having the breast with no skin option... it's all a win win!! read more

Meat quality was 5 stars and the cha gio (fried spring rolls) was 5 stars (out of this world good), but the broth was 4 stars at best, which is really what matters for a pho place. Came here last night for a late dinner because I was fiending for some pho. I was down for the long drive and it was worth it. We arrived at 10:30PM and it was packed! We got a table right away because the ppl before us had a bigger party. I got my usually which is rare beef with fatty brisket. The broth and fatty brisket was not bad but they are pretty stingy on the rare beef though...only three slices ugh My bf got the bun thit nuong with a side of eggrolls and it was good. Came here for a family night out with the cousins on a Friday night. Everything about this place was fantastic- ample parking, great ambiance, fast service, delicious food. I usually always go for some sort of fried spring roll + pork vermicelli bowl or just plain ol' pho, but I was craving a rice plate at this particular moment in my culinary life. Went for the broken rice dish with barbecued pork and fried egg rolls ($7 or $7.50). The dipping fish sauce was absolutely delicious, the bowl of accompanying broth was absolutely delicious, and the rice plate, spring rolls, and bbq pork were total perfection. When it comes to good Vietnamese cuisine...I gotta give it up for Garden Grove! Totally worth the half hour drive. read more

Its a comfortable place to go to with a small group. Make sure that your whole party is there when your table is ready, they're really adamant about it. Pho Lu has usurped my previous favorite place for pho in Little Saigon. It is the best I've had, and I'm a total pho junkie. It's very good prices, fast, lovely atmosphere, and, contrary to some other reviews on here, I had extremely pleasant service.
