So, if anyone's paying attention to the personal tidbits about my life that I insert into these reviews, my Permanent Date and I have started Intermittent Fasting and have gotten down to a four-hour food window. Why the FIVE stars? They have soda on tap. Naturally, this means we are quite hungry when it's time to eat, and my fast might have extended to 22 hours today. Yesterday, I was in the mood for pho, but PD had other plans, so of course I wanted to see which was the #1 pho spot in San Diego, and that led me to Pho Nom, and the very chill Danny, who was our server. Naturally, I had the Pho Nôm, and there is something incredibly satisfying about having a couple of rib bones sticking out of the bowl. The broth on its own is stellar. It has the requisite anise flavor, but the other flavors don't get lost. I did try the lemongrass sate, nomsen tamago ($3), and the white pepper, and they did add some dimensions to the broth, but the broth is delightful on its own. The only downside is the location. Pho Nom is in the 4646 Convoy strip mall, which has one of the most perpetually crowded parking lots in town. HOWEVER, I managed to score rock star parking! Some things not to be missed: -Chili tamarind wings. They will change your life the way that album the manic pixie dream girl told you about didn't. -Spring rolls. Well, the spring rolls are good, but that is hands down the best peanut sauce I've ever had in a restaurant. My son made the best peanut sauce I've ever eaten, and if you asked him, you'd know I would never just say that because he's my son. My kids get the harsher side of my critical nature. read more

The Pho here is pretty good, the broth alone has so much flavor that you don't even really have to add much to it, and the portion is huge. The chicken was cooked perfectly and food didn't take too long to come out either. The egg rolls were somewhat kinda basic and not worth its price. The area inside has very nice decorations and relaxing music making the stay very comfortable. The only thing that is kind of annoying is the prices but for what you get it's pretty clear why it's expensive. read more

The aesthetics in here is cute. There was only one waitstaff which makes sense for the smaller space. If you are wanting authentic pho, this is not it. I feel the broth could have perfected better. Disappointed with them pouring the pho broth in front, but mainly the broth lacked a lot of flavor and body to it. There is just something missing and it's giving more Americanized/modern take on pho. There wasn't a wow factor which was unfortunate. I must say they did give good portions and didn't skimp out on the meat. I had ordered the short rib pho and had the tamarind wings. Not my favorite place for pho but if you specifically want the bone in short rib pho then this is the only place I've tried in SD that serves it. Portion size seems p good but we had the pho nom and the broth was just lacking in flavor but if you like mild broth then maybe you'll like it. The meat quality seemed good but the most important thing for pho imo is the broth and this one just lacked depth to the flavor. Service was good, we got our food p fast as a group of 4 with almost every table full. This restaurant is on the smaller side but we didn't have to wait to be seated thankfully. Overall decor and vibe is clean. Parking is typical convoy parking so limited for how many businesses are in the same plaza but manageable. Overall, wouldn't be my first choice for pho so I probably won't be back. I prefer other pho places in SD a lot more! read more

The short rib pho was so delicious. Great flavor and a very large portion. The lychee cocktail was good but mostly just fruit juice. So don't expect it to taste like any alcohol. The restaurant is small but they were able to seat us pretty quickly on a Friday night. Really cool decor. The employees were friendly and quick with service. I recommend checking this place out if you are looking to grab pho! The parking lot is tricky and gets packed so be mindful of that. read more

Such a lovely experience as always! Danny and Lena were super helpful. Always being sure to have our drinks filled and asking if there was anything we needed help with. The food was delicious, the Pho Nom is always so scrumptious and it pairs wonderfully with the environment and decorations as well. I gotta say I'm super happy with the Lychee Lemonade. It's perfectly sweet and the free refill deal they had for was necessary because of how fast I drank it. I couldn't get enough! Stopped by for takeout after driving down from The Bay. The whole mall was packed and it was tough finding a spot. Saw the Hainan chicken sign outside and it sold us. We also ordered the Pho Nom, egg rolls, and shrimp rolls. The pho had a nice broth with two big beef rib bones. The fried egg rolls were nice and crispy. The Hainan chicken with 3 sauces was excellent but they ran out of the chicken rice, and we were subbed the white rice. That was the only con of our takeout order. I came here for dinner with family on a Friday evening. There was a lot of available seating, and the waiters were all incredibly friendly. We ordered three dishes - the Bun Thit Nuong, Pho Num, and pork spring rolls. Out of these, the Pho Num was the star of the night. The meat was extremely tender and fell off the bone super easily. It melted into the broth and added to the soup a rich, fatty flavor. I also quite enjoyed the KBBQ meats and spring rolls in the Bun Thit Nuong. Went here on a stormy rainy day & it was exactly what we needed. The bone-in meat & the sauce they serve on the veggies & herbs dish with your Pho Nom dish at this place is SO good! And the bowl of pho is GIANT -- it'll take me at least 2-3 sittings to finish the whole thing! There was not a wait for this place and surprisingly everything was delicious! Our server was super kind. I got the lychee lotus, which was super flavorful and refreshing and the bone-in pho..it was "pho-nom"inal. I loved the decor inside, especially when you look up and see the pretty hanging flowers. After like 10 mins after I heard a guy in one of the party was like yall were here first then us then them or something . I spoke up and said hey... there's a list in the front to write your names down and they all went in to do it. I was still waiting and they all came back out and a couple of them left. I asked the remaining couple what happened and they said they were quoted 40 mins. Definitely wouldn't have been 40 mins because there were still 3 tables that had to be cleaned up and they all would've been sat down next. But when I heard the 40 mins... that's crazy.... Took my father to try some new Vietnamese food he's never had before. And since he's Vietnamese from the homeland he can be a hard man to please when it comes to Viet food. But he loved the pho here and killed the whole thing plus half of my bowl. We opted for their Pho Nom bowl and it was delicious.
