This has been the best place in the NW burbs for pho. I've tried a couple places up north but they are not as tasty as Pho Son Ha. The last time I visited, the owner said it's been hard trying to pay rent or to find help and I really do not want this place to close as they are my fav pho spot near my home. What a great little spot, tucked away in a strip mall! My fiancé and I were wanting some ramen, but we also wanted to try a new place. He lives right by here, but had never tried it! Anyway, it's a small mom and pop restaurant, with about eight booths and four tables in it. We were greeted immediately with welcomes, and were seated promptly. On each table are different trays of condiments for your meals. There's the obvious soy sauce and chili sauce. However, there is also garlic, sugar, chili paste, and a fish sauce all for your using! I had an order of the spring rolls, which I highly recommend! They are wrapped tightly, and all of the veggies are fresh and crisp. Each roll also has three shrimp rolled up in it. The rolls (you get two) are served with a delicious peanut dipping sauce. I also had the Pho Seafood, which is their version of a seafood ramen. There was squid, scallops, shrimp, and imitation crab in a broth with rice noodles. My fiancé had the Pho Meatball, which is the broth with rice noodles and a Vietnamese meatball. The meatball is not your average meatball, and has a different texture, so be expecting that, as my fiancé did not like the meat but I did. I thought the Pho I ordered was well prepared and came with plenty of seafood. The portions are big! What was also nice, is beside the condiments at the table, you also get a plate of garnishments to customize your soup with. The plate had basil, cilantro (both are still on the stems), jalapeño, bean sprouts, and lime. This was a nice touch, and you got to add in as much as you want, and added a little extra flavor to the already tasty broth. I definitely recommend this place, as you will get plenty to eat, but it's all fresh and clean, so you don't feel like a tub of crap after eating it. On a sunny, not so winters day, me and my wife found this little place with the help of google maps in our search for 'pho noodles' near us. Parking outside is more than adequate being located in a strip mall. The outside is simple typical how you would usually see most asian eaterys. But upon entering you are greeted by a warm and inviting smile. And not only is she nice, she communicates well to earn your business by taking it nicely above your usual hello welcome. She complemented my wifes lipstick, "BIG" up points may i point out. Having already felt very comfortably welcomed, we were eager to try their Pho noodles. Their menu is simple, describes the food as simple as possible, and they have their choices are great as to you can opt whether or not to have or not what ingredient in your pho. Note also you wont lack any condiments as the table is equipped with almost everything an asian food lover would want to dash and splash on their food. The food arrives, still with their pleasant smiles. You cant help but want to dive into the steaming hot bowl with everything in it.... All in all, the food was great. The noodles were soft, which i like. The meats were adequate, yet i wasnt a fan of the tripe, still the soup made up for everthing. There was no need to add fish sauce. I splashed chili oil in mine. Ultimately i finished the entire bowl, it was that good to me, (or was i just really hungry?). So after this experience, i would come back, especially on a cold winters day. I came here for lunch and the waitress (I think she said she was the owner's sister in law) was super sweet and attentive. She made me a Vietnamese iced coffee (and Americanized it a bit for me since she said it is typically very strong). I was craving Pho since this June has been cold and rainy, so I looked it up on yelp and saw that the previous Thai restaurant here had closed and it was now serving Pho! This place has about 11 tables and has all the condiments on the table. This includes the fish sauce, hot sauce, hoisin sauce and soy sauce. There's also extra napkins in a holder on each table. You can ask for the trio of hot stuff and chilis. We ordered an Vietnamese iced coffee which was delicious. We also ordered the spring rolls (2), crab rangoon, and #35 (bun with pork & egg rolls). My daughter said, "No offense, Mom, but these spring rolls are better than yours." No offense taken, and then she proceeded to order another. The veggies were fresh (mint, basil, bean sprouts), and the meat was so flavorful. The price was reasonable, and we will definitely be back. First time here... Spring Rolls were very good IMO. Great wrapper, pork roll, shrimp, & rice noodles. Far better than the last 4 times I have ordered these at other Thai spots... and $4 is a bargain! Egg Rolls were also very good. Mostly pork and not a lot of filler. Satisfied. The Bánh mì was ok. I like the ingredients but the bread is sub par. They could use a bit more meat. Eat it fast while it's warm... The Pho was ok. The broth was very mild so we added other things to give it some flavor. The round & flank steak were good but there's not a lot in there. We live close so will be back but it's not a destination spot. The service was poor, waitress knows almost nothing about the actual dishes, no water refills unless you ask because she's watching tv.... Would be helpful to learn what you serve the customers who are going to tip you, maybe it was her first day...She was polite though if that makes a difference... ============================================================= Stopped in again, service was a bit better this time. This place serves a really good bowl of pho. The broth was perfectly seasoned (which might mean it's salty for people with normal taste buds), the tripe/brisket/tendon were great, and the bean sprouts/basil/cilantro were fresh. The only thing I would say is that it's a bit lacking in the amount of meat they put in. Maybe it's because the bowl that the pho comes in is humongous but I think with the amount of noodles and broth that came in the bowl, they could have offset it with a bit more meat. The place seems pretty authentic since the workers were Vietnamese and the decor of the restaurant definitely looked like it as well which doesn't matter to me because I prefer authentic delicious food over tablecloths and candlelight. Decided to try this place for the first time because it's so close to home. We ordered a few dishes to go. I really wanted to like this place because there's not a lot restaurants in area that is good. This place is terrible! This is one I will forget about too. Pad Thai it was very dry there was hardly any beef. Chicken fried rice lets just it was burnt. Rice Vermicelli with beef, egg rolls, and mixed vegetables - very disappointing because they forgot to include the sauce that goes with the dish! We ended up going back to get the sauce and ask for a refund for our chicken fried rice. Nothing like having hungry children's and a disaster dinner. Avoid this place at all cost! read more

My husband and I have been here once, and tried to go a second time but it was closed due to it being a holiday weekend. We got Pho Tai, and it was delicious. They also had chili oil, which we prefer, to add to the Pho for a little kick instead of just Sriracha. They also had free wi-fi (the password was on a post-it on each of the tables). Our only complaint was that the service seemed a little lacking. We got one refill on our water when we got our food, but definitely could have used more throughout the meal. And we often saw the staff sitting at table on the other side of the restaurant watching tv shows/YouTube, rather loudly, on their tablets. Excellent pho! My husband had the veggie with beef broth. I had the meatball, brisket, cooked flank steak. You can choose which meats or chicken you would like. The basil, cilantro, sprouts, lime wedges and sliced jalapeño plate was super fresh. Quite average. We got a pho, vermicelli noodles, spring rolls and viet ice coffee. The pho, noodles and coffee were very average and nothing special, definitely had better elsewhere. That would've been 3 stars and worth coming back to, if only bc of the convenience, but the spring rolls were disappointing and why it's only 2 stars. It's just 3 pieces of HALVED shrimps (so 1.5 shrimps per roll) stuffed with only lettuce. Not even fresh lettuce at that, kinda yellowed lettuce. I'm used to spring rolls with bit more jazz, like basil cucumbers carrots cilantro even pork - or at least something more than just lettuce and 1.5 shrimps. This was our first time trying this place and having been thoroughly unimpressed, plan to check out other Viet places. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would. This restaurant is such a gem of Palatine. It is a small location you might have been tempted to overlook, but you would be sorry you did. I came in on a bitterly cold winter Saturday and ordered some beef pho to go. It just so happened that it was their first day open so it was a bit of a hurried bustle. Lots of people came in for delicious food, so that was a good sign. They took about 30 minutes to get me my pho and veg fried rice and only accepted cash since their register was out of order (there's an ATM in the liquor store at the end of the strip mall). The pho came in different containers (as it should) with several twigs worth of beautifully fragrant basil, onions, sprouts, veggies and of course the meat (uncooked of course). Once you pour all the ingredients together, they all cook and blend amazingly. It was such a fresh and delicious soup that really hit the spot on a cold day. The vegetable fried rice was tasty but not quite where I expected it to be. I was delighted with my pho and would definitely order here again, just keeping in mind I shouldn't be in any type of hurry. They also feature some thai dishes, in case you're interested. Their bun dishes are better than restaurants on Argyle St in Chicago. We've been looking for good Vietnamese food since moving to the NW burbs and finally found one. Spring rolls always fresh, shrimp fried rice flavorful without being too salty, good amount of tasty shrimps in their bun dish, noodles are always cooked just right. Quality of dishes are consistent. Seating can get tight during dinner but food comes out pretty quick. Owner is really friendly and will give good recommendations. Staff is attentative and prices are fair with portion of dishes. It is so hard to find good pho in the suburbs! We walked into to an empty restaurant and all of the employees and their children sitting around a table chatting. Not the most professional atmosphere, but it did feel homey. All of the employees were very nice. We got a complimentary decent-sized pot of hot tea. We ordered egg rolls, pho, and shrimp fried rice. Egg rolls: these came out after the pho and the fried rice. Rookie mistake. Not only that, but they were also cold. I asked them to reheat them and they came out again about 30 seconds later, a little warmer, but bland and hard. Pho: the broth had a really weird SWEET flavor to it. Is pho supposed to be sweet? Am I missing something? Also there was barely any meat in it. My elderly grandma liked it though so here's a star for that. Shrimp fried rice: About four pieces of shrimp and a really fishy flavor. This is one of the best Vietnam restaurant in the Chicago suburb area. I missed it so much and come over almost every week. I like the noodle soup best! It is the most refresh broth made with beef. Very smooth even better with lime, some Basel leave and spice. Other than that, the fresh shrimp spring roll is my must order. Again fresh with homemade peanut butter dip! Love it. Per drink, both the Thai tea and coffee are awesome. If you would like to try some Asian food like me, I am sure you won't miss it. Even my American friend loves the coffee and it becomes her must order every time. I have to say the best of best is the owner. It is a family owned business. So nice every time coming in.
