It is however, probably one of the better places in the area for pho, especially since NYC doesn't have anything like this of its kind. (CA pho is where its at) I recommend: Bun Bo Hue: for you spicy food lovers Initially you can really taste the lemon grass, but you just have to mix it a little. I like to add more spicy oil to it so if you are a spice eater, I highly recommend it! If you still think it needs a bit of flavor, add the shrimp paste, but be careful, a little goes a long way! Usually they will bring it out, but if don't get it, you can always ask. Pho: Meat was fresh and they gave a lot! I like how they the meat was soft even though the slices were thick. The noodles were a bit thinner than most places, but I don't mind, I like it like that. The broth is full of MSG, which made the flavor more on the salty side and it didn't capture the beef flavor as well. I guess its all preference for taste and I like mine a little more sweeter and less MSG if possible. Avocado shake: Yummy! All that condense milk. I had the beef with lemongrass sauce over a whopping sized portion of vermicelli! I'm on the fence with this restaurant. It's not the best Vietnamese food I've ever had, but I came in on a Sunday afternoon (hungover) after a night partying in AC.. and it did the job. Honestly, I felt 10x BETTER walking out of this restaurant than I did entering. My group got there around noon and the restaurant was slowly becoming filled. We noticed there were only a few servers on the floor, so it did take some time to get waters and for them to take our order. We only had to wave down the server once when my friends pho soup took FOREVER to come out -- literally the rest of us were almost done eating. And this was particularly strange since pho USUALLY comes out before rice dishes and other entrees (in my experience of the 10+ years I've been dining at Vietnamese restaurants). I ordered the bun bo hue (another kind of vietnamese soup that is less common than pho), and I was far from impressed. The soup was too oily in my opinion, but the noodles and meat were tasty. As stated, it did filled me up and made my groggy-ness and hunger go away. The bottom line: if you're hungover in AC and want something soupy that is a great comfort-like dish, then Pho Sydney is a good choice. First of all, pho this place. This review is based purely on the customer service, not the food itself. If you come here on a weekend or on a holiday, be prepared for a long wait. My friend and I came here yesterday, hoping to grab a meal since our stomachs were empty. When we arrived, there was a family of 3-4 ahead of us waiting. Then came an influx of groups who scattered around the door area. The restaurant was already PACKED--all tables but one were filled. The staff barely acknowledged those waiting to get seated and didn't care to keep track. Large groups of families started coming behind us and people were trying to stand in front of us--they were starting to get on my nerves. Still, the staff didn't seem to care. Tables were uncleaned long after people left and they only managed to clear 2 out of 6 tables in 20 minutes. And they weren't understaffed either. After standing by the door for about 20-25 minutes and having a group that came way after us seated, I asked a staff member (for the third time) how long the wait for 2 people might be, and his answer ticked me off enough to make me leave. He told me that he isn't sure and that--verbatimly--"there are plenty of restaurants around here to eat". I'm not one to easily take things the wrong way or out of context, but when I hear this, I assume they don't really care for my business and don't value me as a potential customer. Once we received food, we didn't not get asked if everything was good or if we needed refills on drinks. We figured out after watching what seemed to be locals that we had to go to the counter to pay because they don't bring the ticket to your table. I paid with credit card and added my tip to make the total even. The guy asked me to confirm the tip numbers. Once I did he said it was too low and it needed to be at least $15. He repeated himself multiple times and pointed at the receipt. I did not change it and as I walked away he spoke in his language to the lady behind the counter and they both started laughing. First time in Atlantic City and I needed a place that was close to my hotel that offered vegan options. The food here was delicious! I got the rice paper + tofu appetizer rolls and the fried rice + fried tofu. However the restaurant was not paying attention to me. I had to stare down my server until we made eye contact then I pointed to my water for a refill. Then I had to wait 15 minutes before someone even acknowledged that I needed the check. This would all be prevented if they weren't all playing their cultured TV show, on a loud volume, and all watching it! Won't be coming back here. It definitely is a hole in the wall Pho spot . I have lives in AC for quite some time and I was just walking past . Wow amazed that they don't use MSG as so that's what the server claims . Only thing is that there were several times when I asked for a smoothie and they specifically said , "we don't so smoothie when busy". I guess they don't "waste time " making smoothies while they are serving that had me a little dissatisfied. Chairs do need to be a little updated . But overall food is definitely a hit every time. I am not a huge fan of meat in my pho, so I usually order the plain one. I was browsing through the menu when I noticed that they did not have this as an option. I asked our waiter if it was possible to make the pho with no meat? The waiter informed me that it was no problem-I was a happy camper! The broth was a little oily for my taste. I've long lamented the lack of good Vietnamese food in New York City, so I didn't expect to find a gem such as Pho Sydney in Atlantic City, of all places. We stumbled in on a late Sunday morning, hoping to fill our bellies after a night of revelry (and too much alcohol) before we hopped onto the bus to head back home. The restaurant was a moderate walk away from where we stayed at Bally's; it's far enough that most visitors would probably prefer to stay in their hotels, especially given the recent snowfall, but we had long committed to making the trek. The space isn't particularly noteworthy, but it's much more spacious than its small storefront would initially lead guests to presume. Our group was quickly seated at three two-tops pushed together side by side, and started going through the menu quickly. Although Pho Sydney offers a variety of Bun (dry vermicelli) and Rice dishes, we all opted to stick with the pho, which comes in two sizes and nearly 20 different varieties. It's overwhelming at first glance, but the main difference between them is the selection of proteins they're served with, so it's difficult to make a "bad" choice. To begin, our table opted to start with a plate of the Cha Gio, four piping-hot fried spring rolls that are filled with ground shrimp and pork. The addition of glass noodles was a nice touch, giving additional texture to the filling, complemented well by the well-seasoned proteins. The outer wrapping was crisp and neatly fried as well, and with a side of sweet-savory-spicy nuoc cham, made for a well-rounded bite. I eventually decided on the Pho Tai Gan, which is the traditional pho served with rare steak and tendon. First and foremost: the beef broth was definitely the best base I've yet to taste. It was rich without being heavy, each spoonful fragrant and unctuous with hints of star anise, basil, garlic, and ginger. Slices of onion, scallions, and cilantro made the broth even more aromatic, and the bowl was rounded out with tendon and rare steak, as well as a good portion of toothsome rice noodles. As is customary, we added in bean sprouts, jalapeños, and lime juice to our liking, and I made sure to douse mine with a generous amount of sriracha. It's a warm, savory, and spicy bowl, perfect for the chilly days and as a remedy for the late nights. For those looking for a filling, well-priced meal, Pho Sydney is well worth the brief walk. Sure, it may not be as impressive as some venues located closer to the boardwalk, but here, let the food do all the talking. read more

I arrived here, with my wife, late on a Sat afternoon & was surprised to see it wasn't busy or crowded at all. This was our 1st time so we walked in stood at the front for several minutes, confused concerning their procedure we sat ourself. The waiter came over & took our order. Not the most hospitable person, but we were hungry so we tried not pay that any mind. The Pho was ok, not great, not terrible. It was lukewarm & the noodles were over cooked. It was edible though. Transcendental pork. That is what I have renamed #32 on Pho Sydney's menu, AKA Bun Dac Biet. It is actually vermicelli with grilled pork, grilled shrimp, spring rolls, and vegetables. It is literally the best pork I have ever tasted in my entire life. I don't even like pork. Smokey, grilled, slightly sweet, and moist. I could literally smell the grill flavor on the pork and the shrimp before I even took a bite. Seriously, transcendental pork. Everytime I think I cannot be more delighted with Pho Sydney, they up the ante. Today the transcendental pork did it for me, and I decided it is high time to bump them up to 5 stars. I am consistently impressed with Pho Sydney: the food comes out lightening fast and is always exceptionally fresh and delicious. The staff, language barriers aside, are friendly and polite. One of the gentlemen actually allowed boyfriend to take pictures of all the ingredients they use to make their Vietnamese Iced Coffee, and even explained the process. The restaurant is always clean and pleasant smelling. The portions are huge and highly cost effective: Bun Dac Biet is easily at least three meals for me, maybe even 4. At a price point of $8.50, boyfriend can feed me for about $3 a meal! Their Viet Iced Coffee is still unrivaled, though be cautious about drinking it on an empty stomach: it's so strong it can literally make me nauseous and cause heart palpitations! I'm also a huge fan of their pho (duh) and rice dishes. After today's lunch, I have to let it out: Pho Sydney is my favorite restaurant in Atlantic City. read more

My favorite place to get Bun Rieu! I love their crabmeat tomato based broth, it's so tasty and aromatic! It has the perfect balance between sweet and savory. The noodle to soup ratio is good as well. I like how they serve their crabmeat pieced together in a ball instead of it being loosened around the soup. I'm very picky when it comes to Pho; the hot boiling broth should burst with flavor because of the overnight cooking time; however this place didn't have that. What a treat. The best alternative to sub par overpriced casino fare. It's the real deal, feels authentic, food definitely tastes authentic. The decor is mid 60s, but don't let that fool you, what matters is what you get here. Ive been here on several occasions, its close proximity to Ballys and Ceasars is easily walked, but at night or in the cold, get the car out of the lot. Ive had more than a few dishes, the shrimp is great here, and the Pho is really good.
