After reading reviews I decided to give this place a try. I wish I hadn't. We saw a roach walking on the ledge near the wall at our table. I definitely didn't want to eat after that. Before that happened I tried the spring rolls which were bland but the seasoning sauce on the table was good. The lard nah had good broth but tofu I got in it wasn't cooked or seasoned at all. The lychee juice and iced coffee were good. I'm sure many restaurants have bugs but I don't plan to go back. The only thai restaurant where a spice level 5 is an ACTUAL 5!! The crepe was perfect, great crunchy outside with soft tender filling and interior of the crepe. Hands down one of the best Phò noodle soups. The Thai- Lao style phò is out of this world. Thai style noodle soups generally have a kick of spice, even when your order "mild". Absolutely authentic and fresh!! Food is delicious but on the pricey side. For example, we received 4 small crispy spring roll pieces for around $8. Their 7" bowl of mix seafood noodle soups was $13.95, and it was a sz small but just the right amount for me so there was room for dessert. Dessert was an extraordinary experience. We ordered the signature Khanom Khrok for dessert, which is made to order on a special hot cast-iron pan. Note to allow 5-10min of cook time. This dish consists of rice flour mini pancakes filled with creamy coconut, palm sugar, and topped with chive. I would love to visit again to try out their other dishes. So after reading the few "below par" reviews, let's clear up some misrepresentation of this restaurant. We were 6 of us who dined here last Wednesday (Oct 12th). This restaurant is NOT your typical Thai/Lao cuisine. While most Thai restaurants have a tendency to serve their dishes on the sweet side and less spicy, this is only to cater to the masses who are NOT familiar with authentic Thai/Lao dishes. If you want to enjoy an experience of authentic spicy Thai food, this is the place to dine at. Each dish is prepared fresh unlike other restaurants who have pre-made curry gravy and then toss in your choice of protein. The ambiance is not all that but who cares when the food is amazingly delicious ?? I'm sure you've heard the phrase "hole in the wall". That's what this restaurant is. So this place is small and quaint restaurant. It definitely has an authentic vibe with its colored ceiling lights. I decided to try this place secondary to another yelpers recommendation. They initially ignored me when I entered and gave me a little attitude when I asked if I should sit anywhere. So far it wasn't the best dining experience. I ordered the Avocado curry but they didn't have any left so opted for the red curry. I was not asked for the spice level so was slightly nervous of what I would get. It was thankfully medium spiced. This spot is more laos food than thai or viet IMO. I'd say their noodle soups are their best dishes. Lots and lots of shallots and garlic, which I love. When you order the pho, don't expect your typical viet pho. It's much more garlic/shallots based. The tom yum soup is amazing and tastes great. The crepe reminds me of a version of banh xeo - kind of a starchy crust with shrimp and a fish sauce tasting sauce The coconut dessert is really good too. The three stars (I would give their mango sticky rice five stars if it weren't for the rest of their food) are JUST for their DELICIOUS perfect mango sticky rice. The black mixed rice with the juicy mangos are amazing! I would go here just for that. Seriously. If you're a mango sticky rice fan, you'll love it here. Don't ever change this! As for their food.... Knowing that this place is 10 minutes from my job is dangerous! When I first walked in with my friend we were a little sketched out because it was such a tiny little hole in the wall. I had read all the yelp reviews so I expected it to be good. They really delivered, this place is exceptional. Our server was really friendly, she kind of walked us through the menu and recommended those out of this world crepes. The peanuty scallion sauce it came with is something I'll always dream of. Liquidy and light but so packed with flavor. It was amazing. I was gonna go for pho but the papaya salad with crab sounded good and it was! The sticky rice was served in the cutest woven basket. It was probably the stickiest rice I've ever had. Crazy good consistency. The crab was really nothing to write home about but the papaya salad was great. My friend got a chicken in brown sauce dish that I wish I could remember the name of. It came with some noodles and veggies, it was really good too. It was also huge! 3.5* We came here one evening to try out this Thai place based on Yelp reviews. I really like the atmosphere. It was warm and cozy on a cold winter night. However, if you are expecting the usual Thai flavors, you will be disappointed. I would say that the food is similar yet different than traditional Thai dish. For example, my pad Thai was soupy and so was my husbands drunken noodle. If you are in the neighborhood you can check the place out but just know that the flavors are very different. We wanted to try some of the Lao dishes but I find that it was very pricey. All dishes are $20 which is very overpriced for Asian dishes. read more

I was not a fan of the pad see ew with shrimp. It was mostly ALL noodles in brown sauce, and barely any vegetables. And the 5 little shrimps had tails. Why keep the tails on? Where do I start? This place was very good and quite unique in my opinion. First, we ordered the papaya salad. It was not really my favorite, but it had a nice spicy kick that made it worthwhile to eat a bit of it anyway. Next, we ordered the veggie dumplings . These were some of the most unique dumplings I have ever had! Most dumplings are soft and squishy, but these dumplings were very crispy on the outside. Finally, we got our main course. My parents kept saying it would be spicy, but I have a high spice tolerance, so I tried it and it was barely spicy. Other than that the noodles and the broth were very yummy. Got Uber Eats for lunch today and the food was generally ok. I ordered a Lard Nah, Pad See Ew, Pad Khing, and Thai basil fried rice. The fried rice and Lard Nah were quite good. The other two were very ordinary. All the dishes tasted very similar as every dish had carrots, onions, scallions, and ginger. The dishes were missing their own distinctive flavors. Another negative is that the prices are on the high side. A Pad See Ew w/ beef for $19 is way too high for lunch, especially when the portions aren't even that big. read more

Green Papaya Pad Thai with Shrimp (image attached) $20 dish was just papaya with shrimp swimming in a brown sugary syrup. Lao Crepe was just soaked in fat and no flavor. Red curry was watery, but probably the best dish we've ordered. Pad Thai is supposed to be sweet, but this was just too sweet. Tom Yum just blah. Wifey and I decided to pay this Maywood Thai eatery a visit. We've been here before, perhaps over a 16 months ago. For drinks I got me a well mixed Thai Iced Tea, she got a Lychee juice. My Thai Iced tea was smooth, tasty and not too sweet, just right. Her Lychee was refreshing. We got Thai Spring Rolls for appetizers, funny story, I actually wanted the rolls that came wrapped in vermicelli, but I ordered the wrong ones lol. They were great anyways. For entrees she asked for Beef Pho, a huge bowl of scrumptious beef and vegetables with a savory broth. I opted for the Seafood Long Song, which is shrimp, mussels and squid. I was hoping for scallops and pieces of fish as well. My meal came with a choice of jasmin or sticky rice, I decided to go with sticky rice, I couldn't resist. This place has other more adventurous and exotic dining fare, such as: frogs, snails, crickets, etc... On my next visit I would try one of more of these exotic meals. read more

Word of warning: this is not a typical Thai restaurant. It's actually pretty great. If you are not familiar with real Thai food outside of the Green Curry and Pad Thai that you might get at a restaurant in the mall, take a few minutes to look at the menu before you visit. I've been here many times before so I am a little biased towards my review as this is the first time I am writing a review about this place. This is one of my FAVORITE places to eat. The food is so delicious and the flavors are so intense I love it! I've never had Laotian food before this so it was very exciting to try. They also offer a mix of Thai and Vietnamese options as well. While the food is a bit pricy for Asian food, it's a great treat. For this review I ate the following: Pla Larb (5/5): I always try to get this fish when I'm there. It's a sort of "salad" of fried fish chopped up with scallions. It's super flavorful and the texture works perfectly with the soft rice they provide. I haven't had the other types of larb they offer but I do have a soft spot for the fish one Pad See Ew with beef (3/5): the Pad see ew is good but nothing super special. Their pad see ew has more of a wet sauce which I'm usually not a huge fan of. However I do love the noodles and all of the veggies they put into it Fried Red Snapper with Spicy Basil Sauce (4/5): I love fried red snapper. I've had this before but couldn't remember which type of sauce it was as they offer 4 different types. This sauce tasted like the pad see ew sauce with all of the veggies on top. I think I may have gotten the garlic sauce last time but whatever it was I loved. The fish is perfectly cooked and the skin is deliciously crunchy and fried Thai spring rolls (2/5): eh skip. I'm always iffy about getting spring rolls at restaurant as this place offers 3 small rolls for $6. I would try one of their other awesome appetizers So overall I've made it clear how much I love this restaurant. I would try to stick to trying the Laotian foods as I found them to be the most delicious! However you can't go wrong here with the awesome food and great ambiance there. The husband, Soubanh is from Laos and wife named Samlane from Thailand. Laos is a Southeast Asian country with China to the north, Vietnam to the east and Thailand to the west. Both owners take turn cooking their cuisine which is unique, authentic and traditionally spicy. My meal was ordered mild. I've been here once only for pickup. This time I got a chance to speak with the owners as I had the restaurant to myself. This quaint restaurant only has 6 tables for indoor dining and also offers pickup. The decor is of old school charm. Social distancing was enforced. To start off, the owner recommend the Lao crepe (rice flour crepe with chicken, bean sprout, topped with scallions-cilantro mixed and fried garlic served with house sauce topped with crushed peanuts. This was my first time having it which came out hot and was so delicious. For an entree, I ordered the Yum Wood Sen (Lao Glass Noodles Salad) - clear bean threaded noodles with shrimp, chicken, seasonal mixed vegetables in a homemade fresh lime garlic sauce topped with scallions-cilantro mixed. This is my 3rd time here and honestly I want to like it more since lots of ppl come here, but I really just like the lao crepe... but I should explore more of the Laos dishes. I've come here & honestly ordered the usual thai pad thai & pad see ew. But their noodles are very saucy which I discovered isn't my type. I like when the noodles are sorta pan-fried & a bit dried with the flavor infused. I'm not a cook at all, but the noodles are a bit bland. On my recent visit few days ago, I tried a different noodle.. the non-spicy chicken lard nah which seems to me very similar to the pad see ew. Honestly, I can't tell the difference, but it was too saucy & bland for me. The thai iced tea is a bit too sweet for me, but for sure one could always ask to have it remade or readjusted. Another new thing I tried is the khanom khrok which are thick toasty coconutty rice cakes which were delish for sure, but also very oily. It was a fantastic experience. I was feeling Laotian so I ordered the Laos Crepes, the Laos Tom Yum Gai Soup and the Laos laap moo (minced pork). The crepes comes in two - fried sticky rice dough, filled with bean sprouts and minced meat, comes with a dipping sauce, topped with fresh cilantro and scallions. The flavors of the Tom Yum is very complex - it's not just any Tom Yum. This one has cabbage and green tomatoes in it, and fresh chili peppers are mixed in. Beautiful broth. The laap moo is absolutely unbelievable - minced pork cooked with perfect timing that it's not dried out: it was extremely juicy and tender, with the homemade laap spicy mix by the chef, served with lettuce and warm sticky rice. The server would ask what spicy level you would like for each of the spicy dish, between 1-5 (less spicy to more spicy) . I chose 3 for both and I think the soup was a little on the spicy side but the laap moo was perfect. My guess is the Laotians really eat hot - I originally asked for 4 but the server convinced me that 3 is probably good for me and it was.... even though I love spicy food. My name is Stephanie Y and I'm a spiceaholic. You can guess my excitement when I read about this place where every review said: "Beware of spice!" I came here with fellow Yelper, Kat B and we ordered up some Lao spring rolls, I went with the generic Thai spicy basil rice dish with veggies, chicken and shrimp (spice level 2 as suggested) and Kat went with a whole fried fish. We were both happy, although I definitely have had better Thai food. First off, the place is a whole in the wall joint. Very casual and definitely a family affair. The menu consists of the usual Thai staples, but also has a page reserved for some exotic not usually seen Lao dishes along with noodle soups and curry. I asked for suggestions for an app and I said not fried and sadly I was limited to about two items. As I previously mentioned, when it comes to spice, I say "bring it," but the woman suggested I try spice level 2 on the app. The Lao rolls ended up pretty flavorless, but it soaked up the sauce nice and it was hot! I definitely could have done spice level 3, but not quite sure if I would have enjoyed it as much, since I believe the taste would have been all spice, no food. My entree was solid. To be honest, it was the spice that really made the dish unique, everything else was pretty standard. By the end, I have to admit, my nose was a running! Kat's whole fried fish took about 30 minutes, but it was definitely unique and Kat enjoyed it, eyes, scales, skin and all. I absolutely love the food, very very authentic, my only complaint (and my biggest complaint) is the service is just too slow, you need to prepare to wait for at least 15mins or more before waitress gave you water or take your order and wait for another 15 min+ to get your food served. If it's not so slow, I will for sure give it 5 stars!! This is the most authentic Thai food you can get in North NJ, don't tell me Bangkok Garden or Wondee in main street, Hackensack. Those are not authentic at all. You have try so you will know. The food here is also much healthier than other Thai restaurants, because they don't use too much oil on their dish so you won't feel the food greasy at all. My all time favorite is Green curry and Pad kee mao, I recommend you try these dishes with Shrimps, the Shrimps they gave you are huge and very fresh. I think spicy level 1 is enough, you definitely will feel the heat but can still enjoy the flavor of food.
