This place used to be my favorite Pho place to go. The service was good and the food quality was consistent. I went there today and it was not the same. The egg rolls are twice fried and old. The pho price went up and the meat portion went down. The jalapeños sliced are 2-inch thick. The thin steak in the broth is half inch thick. No attention to details at all. With a very clean inside, pho today is very welcoming and their staff are professional. I ordered their Beef Pho Special, and honestly, it was "meh". I've had much more rich tasting and flavorful pho elsewhere. I am also somewhat biased because I am not a fan of tripe in my pho because of its texture and unappealing appearance. When I'm sick or it's really cold outside the only thing I crave is pho. So much so that I could have it every day of the week (or cold) that the hubby would get tired of it. I don't know any other meal that can be that filling and that good but not feel so heavy. I've done take-out from Pho Today when I had a busy day in the office and I've met my husband for dinner when we had plans to see a movie. I tend to go for the basic bowl with extra rare beef or beef balls. Every now & then I'll get adventurous and add the fatty beef in the mix but when the basic bowl is so good (which is key) it makes it easy to keep it simple. Service is quick. Accoutrements have always been fresh. Broth flavor is spot on. I have no complaints about the pho I've gotten at all. The décor is interesting - while they definitely spiced it up a little with bamboo on the walls, they left the bones of McAlister's in place so it's like a weird case of deja vu when you go in - but that's cool. My favorite lunch time/Hung over stop. I've tried a few of the Pho places around town, but none seem to compare to Pho Today, in service and food quality. I have to be honest, I always get the same thing when I go to a Pho place. Here it's the P1, but other places it could be any variety of letter + number. I basically go for the one with everything in it. The reason I believe Pho Today does it better than other places is you get what you ask for. When I order the rare steak, it's rare. Other places give it to you pre cooked. The tendon isn't small. Neither is the tripe. And here, you actually get meat balls, as opposed to having to order them separately. If you've read my other reviews, I've described myself as a standard white guy. Most standard white guys would be turned off by some of the things here, and in turn, the staff wouldn't have experience dealing with the standard white guy. Pho Today does. They understand the struggle when you've added too much sirachi or when you ate the raw jalapeno cause it didn't look that spicy. They keep your glass full is what I'm getting at. Last time, the guy even referred to me as bro! How nice. Another thing I've noticed is the prices are a dollar cheaper here. Ex: Large's normally run $9.99 elsewhere, here it's $8.99. I went to Pho Today on a cold Jacksonville day to try their Pho. It was just what the doctor ordered! I had the regular, rare beef Pho ($8.25). The broth was hot and full of flavor, the greens were absolutely fresh and the meat was awesome! The server was very friend, and the service was fast. I will definitely continue to go back to try the other items in their menu. Excellent food and HUGE portions. I can't believe that I travel 25 mins for a bowl of shrimp pho at this place, but it's SO worth it! The flavor is good and they serve jumbo juicy shrimp (about 11+/bowl). So, they're NOT stingy at all with their meat or noodles. My noodles filled almost the entire to go container and they gave me ALL my extras (onions, meat, noodles, sauces, etc.) without being stingy. The cashiers were young, cool and hip. AND I can't believe that they allowed me to get extra Sriracha and Hoisin sauce *FREE of charge* bc y'all know how vietnamese restaurants can be with their extra sauces: THEY CHARGE lol and will give you a half full container in the process lol... but, I'd for sure recommend this place. I'm delighted to say that Pho Today served me my very first bowl of pho, with great success! I'm hooked! I came here for a VERY unofficial UYE with some fellow Yelpers on a Friday night. Like I said, I had never eaten pho before this particular evening and I was excited to add another cuisine notch to my belt, especially since I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE soup :D As you walk into Pho Today, you're greeted with cheery but simple decor, lime green walls and a black and white diner-style floor. Very cute restaurant! Even better was the demeanor of our server. She was very sweet and helpful, and just seemed happy. She definitely made our meal very enjoyable and full of laughs. I started with the Thai iced tea with (light) boba, no whipped cream. I like tapioca pearls, but after a few I get tired of them. I had never had Thai tea before, but I had seen tons of pictures from other Yelpers and it sounded good. It was nice and icy, very refreshing, with a distinctive vanilla-esque flavor. Glad I ordered it! (See Nate M.'s photo for my straw mishap... lol) As for the pho, I chose the P8, which was rare steak, beef ball and chicken. I got the "small" size, and it was more than enough! In short, I found the pho absolutely scrumptious. Rich broth, flavorful proteins, super fresh add-ins. Pho Today has all the awesome condiments for turning up the awesomeness of your pho: sriracha, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, TWO types of chili paste. Yes! I loved the do-it-yourself aspect of eating pho. I admit it, I've never had Pho before and I a lot of my foodie friends were all like "Wut?". They couldn't believe it. So on cold January days like these, a nice order of Pho is in order. I was too lazy to go sit in the restaurant or go pick it up myself so I had it delivered through Yelp's Eat24 app. I ordered a Thai Tea with Boba, Edamame, and the Pho Special, small size. It came in about an hour which is fine since I had other things I needed to do. The entree came in separate boxes, one for the soup and one for the noodles, veggies, and the meat. I assembled it all in my oversized ramen bowl (Blasphemy I know lol) and oh my god. IT IS AMAZING! The thing that really stood out for me was the fresh basil leaves in the soup. First thing first. The employees are very friendly. I have not yet got an attitude from them, yet. First time I order from this place, the food was good. I only order appetizer. I order Cha gio(egg rolls)(A1), Goi cuon thit nuong(fresh salad with grilled pork)(A4), Goi cuon nem Nuong (fresh salad with pork sausage)(A5). The egg rolls is ok, grilled pork was a bit sweet and the pork sausage was really good. So, I know I'll be back. The next day, I called in my order and ask if I can get Goi cuon(A2)(fresh salad with shrimp and pork). I ask him if I can get that without shrimp in it. Because I'm allergic to shrimp. He said that they could not do that. I ask why? And isn't it made fresh by the order. He said, "No, they wrapped it a head of time." I was like wth. That is the first time I ever heard of that. Nor they don't do that request. I'll be gladly to pay the same price. I just don't want to die. Anyways, I change it to nem Nuong. He said that they ran out and want to sell me grilled pork. I said, no thanks. 3 days later I order, 2 nem Nuong. But this time, I was sooo disappointed. The pork sausage was over cooked. Most likely you can say it was close to burnt. It was sooo dry. I was waiting all day just to be disappointed. I don't know why they would even serve that to anyone. I work in a food business and I do not allowed that. Week later----Anyways, I tried again. This time I order nem Nuong and Bun Dac Biet(Char broiled pork, sugarcane shrimp paste, egg rolls and pork sausage). So, I told them I didn't want the sugarcane shrimp paste cause I'm allergic to it. But, they still packed it in there. So, I did not touch my food. I gave it away. "I think they were trying to kill me." Lol Even buy the looks of the food. Some of the food is kind of burnt. You gotta let it go, you gotta let it go. I guess I need to let it go. 2 weeks later---This time I order pho dac biet(Pho Special). It was OK. I thought it'll be "da bomb", because it's a pho restaurant. I hear people talk about it being great. But it's just plain old ordinary pho. The portion is great. But the flavoring is "bleh". Pho broth is the main thing for me. I love eating pho without adding all these sauces to it. It was sooo bland that I had to add all these seasoning to it to make it taste better. I order from Pho Today often, this time I had the pleasure of dining in. Let me say this is absolutely the spot to be on a Friday, it was quite busy! However, the service was great and the pho even more amazing!! There was only one person in the kitchen cooking fried rice and he had gotten backed up a bit, but the owner and waiters continued checking on us and kept us informed. Pho Today is me and my boyfriends go to soup spot. This actually the first place I tried pho, and I was instantly hooked! I tried their Pho prior to being Vegan, and its one of the few dishes that I can truly say I missed having, but never fear they have an Veterinarian section that can be requested Vegan. Although there aren't any pho's or soups that are listed vegan, the entreesand appetizers they do offer are delish. So while my boyfriend gets his fill of Pho I can get loaded up on my noodles and tofu. And its delightful! The boba tea. Yes! Came here for an impromptu lunch with a fellow Yelper a while back because I was dying to try pho finally. I ordered the P8: rare beef, chicken and beef ball. Man, the serving was huge! I wish I could finish it all because it seemed like such a crime to leave the rest behind... It came with lots of fixin's like culantro (long leaves, with a much more pungent odor and does not look like flat leaf parsley) bean sprouts, jalapeños and limes. I loved putting all the vegetables into my soup as I wanted to enhance the flavor. I also had a boba tea. It is perfectly sweet with little jelly balls or something at the bottom. While I would not go so far as to call myself any sort of expert on or aficionado of pho, I do know the difference between a good bowl and a bad bowl of pho and have experienced many instances of both. I can honestly state that this place offers one of the best quality bowls I have ever had. The broth is aromatic and delicious, the meat is of the highest quality, the vermicelli is perfect, the toppings are garden fresh, and all are in generous proportions. I also had their cooked pork spring rolls which were made fresh just for me. Their fantastic food aside, if you were to visit their website, you might get the impression (as I did) that the place is one of those holes in the wall pho shops. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the website doesn't do the place justice. Not just as pho shops go, the place is actually quite ornate and nice. I travel a lot of my job and am always in search for a good pho place in every town I find myself. Pho dac biet - broth quite bland and not hot, needed extra broth, super hot. Ming bean sprouts were brown indication that people in this area don't like it and the restaurant reuses it. Goi cuon, skin way too hard and also iceberg and cilantro not the normal, should be green leaf and maybe green onions. Rice plate - grilled pork, with fried egg. Had better as well. Pork could be more charcoal and seasoned flavor. $2 per person per cup of tea. A kettle of tea usually free in California in pho joints. Real Vietnamese staff but again cater to the folks in the area. Sticking to roots is hard for business. A very small and slightly hidden pho restaurant off of SouthSide. I actually originally discovered this place by accident when I was dashing and picking up an order to deliver. I immediately was intrigued by the aroma of the restaurant and how delicious everyone's food looked ! The service was great and I grabbed a to go menu so that I remembered to come back by when I got the chance. Then I got the notification on Yelp of an event and the timing couldn't of been better ! So today I got the tofu veggie stir fry and the tofu was really good the only reason I would take a star off is because my rice was very very mushy and not cooked correctly :/ and I just really expected the stir fry to have more flavor as it was very plain . I have traveled most of Florida looking for the best pho. This is a close to the best pho anywhere and I am comparing with pho found in the east coast pho ground zero, Washington, DC. For $9.50 you get a large, (regular sized) steaming bowl of a regular sized pho with up to four choices: tendon, flank, steak, and meatball. The beansprouts and basil portions are large by even DC standards, the pho was steaming, as in really steaming. In addition to the great pho, What sets this pho above the rest is real wood chopsticks, real authentic spoons and an updated nice decor. This is one of the best Pho spots in Jacksonville. Pho is always a great go to on those cool Florida days. I ordered the Pho Special (with rare steak, flank, tendon, tripe and beef balls) and the Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls. Both were great choices. Pho Today brought the heat and flavor. I thought that their broth was solid. It had the good authentic pho flavor which I have come to known. I like to kick up the heat on my pho too, so the fresh jalapeños and the spicy sauces definitely intensified my pho. They bring out other herbs and spices (mint, bean sprouts and limes) to flavor up the dish but I am happily content with how it comes. The shrimp and pork rolls were fresh and delicious. I especially love the peanut sauce that comes with it....sweet and salty. A perfect combo. My wife and I were talking about it and the sauce of the fresh spring rolls reminds us of the peanut sauce of lumpiang sariwa (a fresh spring roll dish from the Philippines). I really wanted to like this place based on all the good reviews,but sadly the food was very bland. I ordered a side of pork spring rolls and a bowl of round eye steak and flank pho. The spring rolls lacked flavor despite drenching it in the seasoned fish sauce. I didn't eat the second roll. The pho broth had the right balance of seasoning but it could've used a longer cook time as it was just not quite rich enough in flavor. The flank was my favorite part of the meal. It was tender and there was definitely plenty of it in my serving. Lastly, I'm used to paying around $6.50-$7 for a bowl of pho (in Austin, tx), so it sucked paying $9.50 for a very mediocre bowl.
