Not my favorite pho place, but also not bad. Boyfriend and I split a large number 8 and a lemongrass chicken banh mi combo. The banh mi combo was good, but the chicken didn't taste much of lemongrass. The ingredients tasted fresh though, and that also includes the pho. My one complaint of the pho was of the noodles. Pho wagon is okay, definitely not the best but not the worst either. I've gotten the chicken pho almost every time and the broth isn't really that flavorful, I tend to add a little more sriracha than usual. I used to come here all the time in high school since it was the closest, so by all means if you're in the area give it a try because there's not too many decent pho options in the wg area. Terrible first dine in experience tonight and my last. We have done take out for years and always been happy with the food. Tonight we decided to take the kids out instead of take out. Service was terrible, rude, no salutations, and no thank you. They never asked if things were okay, broth was bad and too cold. To top it off I had to kill a baby COCKROACH off the wall by our table. It's honestly sad because I think this place has pretty decent pho and it's close to where I live but the service is so awful that I don't think I'll come here anymore. My husband and I gave it at least 6 tries and were disappointed again and again. The final straw was when the place was practically empty and they just had workers standing around and we were still sitting at our table for 15 minutes waiting for water and somebody to take our order. Simple and delicious Vietnamese food in the land of no Vietnamese people. Living in the area, it's hard for me to find decent Asian food. You have 2 decent Vietnamese places near Valley Medical Hospital, you have a decent Filipino-Fusion restaurant down the street near Hamilton and San Tomas, and you have Chinese/Korean at Tsing Tao on Campbell Ave and San Tomas Aquino. Those are the only decent ones in the vicinity. They have a few other Chinese restaurants in the area, but don't even bother. Stick with the ones I mentioned and Pho Wagon. If you have trouble finding this place, look for the Nothing Bundt Cakes shop. It's in the shopping center, but in the back. There is a ton of parking. The place is very clean, including the bathroom. The menu consists of the typical pho, broken rice, and "bun" noodles dishes. A plus is that they also serve banh mi, which lots of pho restaurants don't normally serve. The spring rolls are decent as was their peanut sauce. They also do to-go order, but sometimes their noodles stick together too much and it's hard for the broth to separate them. I even tried to soak them in hot water first, but still didn't work. Dinner tonight at Pho Wagon was not enjoyable. The service is awful. I don't think they have enough staff. A lot of people were waiting in the entrance area and the staff was clearing all the empty tables. I do not know what their issue is, but they need to make significant improvements. The food is just okay. I had to ask three times for water and a pot of tea. It finally arrived after my third request. This is not acceptable! On the back of the menu they have their house specials. Originally I wanted to order the Filet Mignon Stir Fry. I was told that all stir fries take from 30 to 45 minutes. WHAT! This is a stir fry. From my experience stir fries are quick. There is no indication on the menu that all stir fries take 30 to 45 minutes. This is outrageous! The men's restroom was a mess. No hand paper towels and toilet paper on the floor. Don't bother going to the place. They do not care about their customers. The food is just okay. There are far better places in San Jose. Don't waster your money!! read more

Having pho at Pho Wagon can be compared to eating a "gourmet burrito." I mean, should such a thing really exist? For something that is hearty, filling, and wonderful in its simplicity and goodness, would it make sense to make a fancy version of it? I would argue no. In fact, I would argue that in an attempt to make a gourmet version of a burrito or--let's focus here, Kat-- pho, the result is actually destruction of the essence of the food itself! Does that make sense? Because really, fancy pho at fancy pho wagon doesn't make up for the fact that it really, actually, isn't the best pho. This place really does have a nice environment that is very clean. It's in a convenient location and the menu looks promising (prices are higher than the norm), and service is decent. SERIOUSLY though, this is the best pho you will ever eat and I consider myself a pho connoisseur, which means I know good flavor and good broth and they nail it every time. I truly, truly have never had a bad meal here or a bad experience with service. The people at Pho Wagon are on the ball and they're phenomenal!! The place is always packed whether at 12p or 1:30p, be prepared to wait or luck out on the last table in the restaurant. When you are seated you absolutely have to start off with the grilled pork spring roll. I could devour 10-15 plates of these babies but I have to show a little constraint here so I stick with just one because I know over the course of time I will get my bakers dozen in! They are so flavorful, the grilled pork is so rich in porky goodness and the veggies and thai basil add a perfect flavor balance in your mouth. I am a creature of habit as I am sure many of my fellow yelpers are and if you think you're not let me ask which leg you put into your pants each day??? Ah ha, see creatures of habit! Well since I am an admitted creature of habit I can tell you my go to Pho is #6 large. I crush that bowl of lovely rice stick noodle, tendon, flank and tripe and I stare at my friends bowl wondering if maybe they will be unable to finish and I can crush theirs too! Ok, I digress, but seriously the broth doesn't need anything added to it, its not over salted and its not oily. I love loading on the condiments (mung bean sprout, jalapeño, lime and thai basil) and I add Sriracha and chili paste to spicy it up a bit and make my nose run (order extra napkins to wipe your snot). There is a good quantity of meat and goodies, could there be more, sure but its plenty for what it is. The noodles are done well too and very filling. The food is fast, and flavorful, the service is very helpful and on point and this is the reason I come back time and time again. If you want a great bowl of Pho and some nice Vietnamese cuisine give Pho Wagon in Willow Glen a shot. read more

Lately I've been on a pho kick - and with the weather cooling down nothing tastes better than a super hot bowl. I've been testing out a lot of pho spots in the Campbell/San Jose/Saratoga area and Pho Wagon is one of the more impressive places we've visited so far. Venue: extremely clean with a nice, casual ambiance. Not cold or cafeteria-like at all - its very warm and inviting. Each time we've visited - which is twice in as many days just this week - we're greeted promptly, with a smile and quickly led to a clean table. Service: Attentive, polite, prompt and very friendly. No waiting to catch someone's eye, lots of visits from staff to make sure we're enjoying our meal, and if a window seat is open that's where they always, automatically lead us first. Food: Simple, well-prepared, fresh and very tasty. My husband is particular to beef pho, and theirs (we always order the small bowls, BTW, which is plenty) is full of white rice noodles in a clear, nicely seasoned beef broth with tons of thinly sliced beef (steak, fatty flank, tripe, tendon, brisket). Our only comment would be that the beef broth can sometimes be a little saltier than we typically prefer, but not enough to complain. I'm a pho ga girl, and theirs (to date) is my favorite of all the places we've tried. The broth is very clear, full of flavor and well seasoned. Never too salty. The quality of the broth is complimented by lots of bite-sized shredded all-white chicken breast. Occasionally my noodles seem a bit overcooked - but again, nothing bad enough to really complain about. Both bowls are garnished with scallions and cilantro, and come with a plate of mung bean sprouts, lime wedges, sliced jalapeño and Thai basil leaves - all extremely fresh. As I mentioned, a small bowl is plenty of food - it would take two people to finish a large portion. The only other item we've tried are the fresh shrimp spring rolls - which were very nice. I've seen some amazing looking salads pass by, and am dying to someday try their Bahn Mi sandwich. In summary: The venue is clean, warm and inviting. The service is quick, attentive and very friendly. The food is high-quality and consistent. All said one of my favorite pho spots in the area. read more

I am all about authentic pho and I would have to say that this place is pretty good for the westside of San Jose. Actually, I've been to a couple on this side of town and this is the best one I've had so far. I ordered the Dac Biet Pho which has everything in it and it was flavorful and had a good amount of meat. I also ordered both of their desserts: baked banana cake with coconut milk and peanuts and fried banana with coconut pineapple ice cream. AWESOME!!! Friendly service, fast, and very clean. VEGGIE LOVERS...my cousin is a die hard vegetarian and she has been searching high and low for a really good veggie pho place and she struck some gold today! This place is like the gateway for people who've never had Vietnamese food and want a stepping stone... Their waitstaff is really friendly and the ambiance inside of the restaurant is much nicer than your usual hole in the wall places which obviously have much better food. We've been to the location in Sunnyvale and we like that place, but at this one, the rice plates don't have much pizzaz and they seem to charge you the highest price they can and give you the least amount of food they can. Like as if they're trying to be too fancy, so they just skimp on the quality and quantity and just increase the restaurant's interior and ambiance. Normally, I really enjoy Pho Wagon, unfortunately today was not an enjoyable dining experience! I was having dinner with a friend, as usual the food was very good... However, shortly after the food arrived I noticed a half inch long cockroach running around on the table!!! Thankfully my friend was able to "dispose" of the unwanted table guest. Unfortunately it ruined my appetite. I made my friend give the napkin containing the bug to the waitress. You would think they would have discounted or comped the meal, or at the very least apologized. Nope, they acted as if it were a common place occurrence to have a customer hand them a napkin with a dead cockroach in it, just business as usual. Came here when I was sick because I wanted some soup and didn't feel like struggling to open canned soup. There were two things drawing me to Pho Wagon: 1) they accept credit cards (I'd run out of cash), 2) they have a few vegetarian options for my vegetarian friend. We entered and it was very clean and modern, with lots of attractive flowers and plants brightening up the space. We had the egg rolls and they were the stars of the meal to me, strangely. Moist on the inside, flavorful, crispy outside. Really freaking good! I wish we'd ordered 2 plates! The limeade was also really good-- very flavorful and tangy but not sock you in the face sour. The pho was decent. Not mindblowing, but a nice clear broth and I really have no complaints. The broth wasn't the most flavorful I've ever had, but maybe they don't use MSG. I dunno. Friend reported that the vegetarian soup was quite good. It's just a little on the pricier side, but sometimes I'm willing to pay that much. They have sriracha, hoisin, and another hot chili sauce on the table. I went for the latter and it was satisfyingly spicy and flavorful. However, I was sad to see no fish sauce on the table. The service was very friendly and the lady serving us really went out of her way to be communicative. She also humbly and without complaint went out of her way to try to help the somewhat snotty and demanding woman sitting at the table next to us whose children (who were old enough to use a fork and spoon) were eating noodles with their fingers and sucking down broth with a straw...charming. Being that it's the only pho restaurant in Willow Glen, I'm happy it's a good one. I realize there are a number of Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose, but who wants to trek to the east side or downtown? Not me. First & foremost, it's CLEAN and nicely decorated, I might add. The service is quick & polite and the soup is delicious. I've had the chicken pho & wonton soup - both are flavorful and yummy! This place is okay, its one of the only pho places near my place. It's super nice inside, clean and the service is fast. Although they close between lunch and dinner which was like weird to me at least for a PHO place. Portions are small for how much it is. I order the seafood soup with egg noodles and apparently it only come in a large size for almost 10 bucks. and the portion is like small in other pho places. It comes with crab imitation and squid it was okay. I'd come here if I was lazy and really wanted pho. I think I like the fact that you can use a credit card. Always on the hunt for good pho. I like this place. It's hard to find NICE Vietnamese restaurants. This place is nice inside, clean and inviting. I ordered pho and it was very good. Not the best I've had, but I had no complaints. Well, just one. But it's a picky, trivial thing. The small order of pho came in a small bowl which made everything in the soup crowded. I didn't like that. I like big bowls where you can see everything and it's easier to eat that way. My wife ordered the Lotus Root Salad. She liked it. I tasted it and I liked it too. It had that sweet and sour dressing that I like so much. While we were waiting for our food, the owner came to our table and made conversation with us. She was very kind. Love this place. On a Friday or Saturday night you gotta plan to get there before the crowd. Everything is very fresh, pork is tender, soup is hot and deeeelish. Great pad thai. Love their spring rolls. With the soup they always have wonderful bean sprouts and basil. ohhhhh man is that good. They are funny about dishes and the order that stuff comes out - we always have to ask for smaller bowls to split the soup between us and it's not apparent to them that this is customary. Sometimes we order the lemongrass pork and shrimp wiht noodles, and ask for extra pork - and the extra pork shows up with the soup. LOL But, in the long run it doesn't really matter i guess but it is odd. Anyway these people are really wonderful and work hard to make sure everything tastes great. And the prices are excellent. They also have a small room in the back with a door separating it that, if it was a little bigger, we'd use for a meeting room for my Lions Club for a change of pace - but we HAVE had some board meetings there on occasion and the room is great for a small group. read more

This is a Pho place I will not be returning to... When I first walked in, we went to the front deal and just stood there because no one greeted us. There was a person at the desk and multiple people just kept walking by us. We had to actually get someones attention in order to ask then if we sit or we are to be seated. The person we asked acted surprised as if we had not been standing there for a minute or two already. So, we sit down, look at he menu (They didnt have a lot of options), order some pho, an appetizer, and a CAN soda (Which was $2 BTW). Their pho was a little pricier than a lot of the other places I had been to. When we received our pho, their "large" was a small at any other Pho place you would go to. We were very disappointed. They charge more and give you a good amount less. It got 2 stars because the I inside was very nice interior and upkept compared to other pho places. Taking the time to re-review this place once again. They have changed my mind! We decided to give this place another try as I work rather close to this place and my coworkers were craving Vietnamese sandwiches. We always order to go over the phone and we pick up right away. Food is always ready when they quote and the front cashier has been helpful. The food is still great even after the trip. I've been here a couple times- I've had pho and the shrimp bun (shrimp tasted old), both mediocre at best and the taste is always a little off. My family loves this place and when I expressed how underwhelmed I was with the food, my mother said "I guess I just like American style Vietnamese food." And I guess I like authentic Vietnamese food. The service has always been good and the presentation of the food is nice but none of that matters if the food doesn't match.
