I mainly come here for their dessert drinks, sesame paste, and new year turnip cakes. Always dependable. I got their CNY special menu both last year and this year. I downloaded their app during COVID, and they do email me with some good promotions, including a points reward program.

2025-12-19 $56 feast special, unbeatable value in SGV!

I don't understand the low ratings of this place nor the empty dining room on a Saturday night. Came here with family last night, we had a 5-star dining experience ordering the $56 special -- black pepper basil fish, salt and pepper pork chop, buddha's delight veggies, and PHOENIX BONELESS CHICKEN (my #1 go-to dish here) -- which also includes rice and hot tea. An unbeatable dinner value in the SGV. The service was swift and friendly. Sure, the restaurant is old and could use some modern updates, but the food is still every bit as good as pre-Covid. Maybe it just needs some social media love like the Savoy place next door, whose Hainan Chicken IMO is way bland and overrated!!

I usually come here for desserts. I like their purple rice coconut pudding and their mixed fruit tapioca drink. Today, I ordered their "weekday signature feast" special on their app. The special comes with (1) boneless chicken (2) black pepper and basil beef (3) fried salt and pepper pork chops. (4) 3 pieces of purple rice coconut pudding for dessert. This combo comes with their daily soup and steamed rice. Everything was delicious except the soup. The soup was bland. We ordered take out and the food was ready when we arrived to pick it up. Very efficient. 4 stars for the food. 5 stars for the pudding and the mixed fruit tapioca drink. I will be going back soon to try other dishes.

Used to go to the original Phoenix Inn in L A Chinatown many many years ago. This is I think the same family. Menu smaller and we didn't try the cold steamed/poached chicken and next time we will try to see if it brings back flavor memories.

It must be ages from my last visit to this restaurant. We ordered fry fish, walnut shrimp, an appetizer, shredded chicken, fried todu, and soup. The service that we received was very good. The server that served was friendly and attentive. People may find this location similar to other Phoenix boutiques. However, the dishes that it ordered were a bit different.

I usually order through their app. If there's an issue, then I phone in my order. Love the app cuz you can accumulate points. Service for pick up is okay. Depending on who you get, it can be decent or mediocre. On a recent visit, total wait time from order to pick up was 40 mins. Very surprising. Never had to wait that long before. Not sure if they were short staffed in the kitchen or what. Disappointed small short container.

Review is for the dessert section. Not sure what had happened to the togo container for the black sticky rice with young coconut. Some how the container got shorter and the price of it has gone up since my last purchase. My con of this place is the shorter container they provide. The pro are they have a variety of desserts to fill your sweet tooth.

I've been coming to this place for over 15 years and i have never been disappointed. ! Great food! Service is always kind and attentive, nice and clean! If you're craving Chinese, definitely come here !

We like Phoenix as an easy spot for quick bites. It also has a great variety of Chinese desserts. My hubby and daughters like their durian mochi dessert and assorted fresh mochi. I like their mango pudding, black sticky rice, and mango pomelo sago with silken tofu.

Phoenix never disappoints. They have so many delicious options, you can't go wrong. The food is always freshly made and the portions are great. They have the best honey walnut shrimp and chicken lettuce wraps. Their beef with broccoli is also one of my favorites. The wontons in the soup are packed with meat and shrimp and full of flavor. Shrimp rolls are usually good, just a little well done this time. The service is great and the servers are always very attentive. The place is clean and there is plenty of seating. After your meal you can walk over to their little dessert shop and pick from many options including a tasty jello or mango rolls. Also try the fruit delight, best drink ever!

    Szechwan Eggplant with Ground Pork
    Ella H.

We ordered To-go through Uber Eats for dinner. Unfortunately, the delivery of food was very disappointing to make it a good value. The tastes, which is considered the basics of food, are totally wrong! Do NOT order the "Szechwan Eggplant with Ground Pork" 魚香茄子 First of all, there is no ground pork inside as advertised. And the taste is not Szechwan at all. This classic dish is supposed to be spicy and more on the savory side for its flavor; but Phoenix chef makes it a disgusting McDonald "sweet and sour" sauce dish. It is unacceptably sweet and weird. All the other dishes are very plain in their taste and I'm quite disappointed. The only course that I may give an Okay is the fried rice. Phoenix used to be an option for me when craving for some Asian fusion courses or when you wanna introduce Chinese food to foreigners who might only can take "Panda Express" But now, even with those friends, I would tell them to stay away from the unappealing chained restaurant.

I've been coming here for years .... Rain or shine I come for the Hot Milk Tea and Dessert Selection at their next door bakery and deli location... And in the main restaurant I always vie for their Won Ton Soup; fresh sautée vegetable platters and ... House Special Fried Rice Egg Rolls And today we went for the Half Order of Peking Duck... Really fresh and juicy duck meat with Crispy skin... Sauces and Peking style Buns are tasty and fresh and oh so doughy! For dessert try their Egg Tarts and Almond Cookies... delectable If you're feeling daring try their Hokkaido Alaskan Clam and Peanuts with Sardines...from the deli section... Absolutely perfect snack for any Netflix binge... Their black sesame pudding; and Hot Milk Teas are the tastiest versions ... of any Hong Kong style Milk Tea ANYWHERE... Pick up some cold style Chrysanthemum and Milk Teas to go... Delicious You can tell tell truly care here for quality and detail of just about any selection... Friendly and Cordial staff will remember you for years... So be well behaved!

This dish is called. Former House special cold chicken. Tasteless and the chicken was chopped not shredded.

Soup and tendon can be a bit salty on its own but when you add the soup with the noodles, the noodles soak up the flavor very well and the soup mellows out. Still on the heavier side of flavor for me but I can tell it's a very good, flavorful soup. Tendon was very soft. My husband ordered D1 and the regular beef was soft and had a good, evenly distributed flavor throughout the meat. Husband said he did not find the noodle soup salty and he's also on the lighter side of flavor profile like me. Beef roll: ordered this since the pics on yelp showed them rolled very evenly with filling. A little expensive, it could be a meal price, but the amount could also be a meal. Beef roll came looking exactly like what I saw in pics; good amount of filling and rolled evenly. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be crispy on the outside since I ordered take out but it could be crispier. I'll prob air fry later for a later meal. Crispness was the only con, the beef roll was very good! The beef isn't dry and tough, good amount of sauce for flavor. Would definitely recommend. Overall, beef noodle soup and beef roll were excellent. Already recommended the place to my sister. Be warned, ordered around opening time (Saturday) and when I went to pick up, the place was already full within the first hour of opening.

For us, a black sesame roll (could be a snack or dessert), four orders of steamed pork siu mai, two orders of juicy pork dumplings (soup dumplings), and a beef chow fun with soy sauce dish totaled to a little over $55. Everything came out piping hot and packaged well for takeout. We only waited about 15min, which was not bad at all. We really liked the siu mai and chow fun. Both were savory and addicting. Siu mai were especially juicy and meaty; they definitely satisfied our dim sum cravings. Soup dumplings were ok - I found the wrapper to be doughy and the filling kinda plain. The black sesame roll had an interesting rolled look and a sticky, chewy, jelly-like texture. It tasted like lightly sweetened black sesame paste mixed into what seemed like a combination of mochi and agar. The small parking lot in the back is free. We got lucky finding a spot in the late morning, but when we were ready to back out after getting our food, cars were either circling the lot or waiting for someone to leave.

They opened and closed the door for us which was a nice touch because it was busy inside. We ordered the pork ramen, pork buns, and pork soup dumplings. On to the food! Pork Ramen: 3/5 They give you a hefty amount of noodles and pork. They use a thin noodle here which pairs well with the broth. I truly do believe this was around average for ramen as the flavor in the broth was not as strong or savory. The highlight of the entire entree was definitely the pork, which was tender and flavorful. I probably would not order this again. Pork bun: 5/5 The pork buns were soft and fluffy, almost too good looking to eat. There was the right amount of soup and meat inside that made for a wonderful bite full of flavor. Not dry at all. Would recommend ordering this if you visit. Pork Dumplings: 5/5 The star of the show, the dumplings. They were soft and just like the buns, they had the right amount of soup + meat which made for a delicious bite every time. My toddler even ate some and she's usually super picky about meat. Loved my whole meal from start to finish at Hong Kong Cafe!…read more The cafe is located at the north end of the Atlantic Times Square plaza in Monterey Park. There's a large underground garage for parking. We got lucky with a spot as a car was just leaving when we pulled in, so I'm not sure how hard it is to find parking during peak times, but there were a lot of cars coming in so I imagine it could be a bit difficult on weekends. We came to the cafe Saturday morning around 11:30 and managed to beat the lunch rush. They had tables available when we arrived, so my party of 4 was seated in a couple minutes once they prepared the table. It was quite spacious inside with plenty of space between each table, which made it easier for us with a bulky stroller. The decor was really fun to look at as well, as they have a lot of Hong Kong themed decoration. My friend got the Hong Kong milk tea to drink but it was pretty bad. He said the tea flavor was way too strong. I tried a sip and agree it wasn't very good. As expected of a Hong Kong cafe, the menu was large and had a huge selection of dishes. It took us a while to look through everything and figure out what we wanted. We ended up sharing the following dishes: #95 signature fish fillet ($19.95) - didn't know what to expect as there was no description of the dish on the menu. It was fried and coated in a sweet salty sauce. It was good but tasted pretty standard #120 Hainan chicken rice ($18.95) - probably my least favorite dish of the meal. It was served completely chilled, and the rice didn't have the fragrant chicken flavor I was expecting #151 seafood chow fun ($15.95) - this was my favorite dish! we got it with gravy for a change (we usually always get this dry) and it really came smothered in sauce. Despite that, we could still taste the wok hei in the rice noodle #176 grilled pork chop ($15.95) - pork chop was delicious! but the mushroom sauce we got on the side was very meh; it didn't have much flavor #176 grilled chicken steak ($15.95) - mostly one friend was eating this dish, but I tried a piece of the chicken and it was solid. They do a good job grilling their meats here! Portions are ginormous here. You can definitely get away with ordering 3-4 dishes for 4 people, but we wanted to have some leftovers for the next day so we ordered 5. We left happy and full :)

I typically get their hainan chicken rice plate, fried chicken wings, dried scallop and egg white fried rice, and a side of lemon iced tea. Their hainan chicken rice has a side of seasoning to dip the chicken in, as well as their seasoned rice which makes it super flavorful. The chicken wings are also super crispy and soft on the inside. And their scallop and egg white fried rice always tastes super authentic. I love that this place closes super late so it's always a perfect place to grab a late night snack/ dinner, or even to catch up with friends late at night. It's always super busy whenever I come (whether it's dinner time or late at night). We always get seated super fast despite the busy environment. The servers are always super attentive, fast, and always refills our drinks when it's empty (the lemon iced tea is refillable)!. I also love the decor inside: it's really nostalgic and pretty. Overall, this place is popular among the locals for a reason. I would definitely come here for a late night dinner if you're ever craving some authentic hong kong cafe food!
