Wow, it's been 3 years since my last review for Yum Cha Cafe. Well then, let me do an updated review here. My Mom and I were at this cafe for a quick lunch before our big dinner for my brother's birthday the day before Easter Sunday. We remembered a few of the workers from back in the days are still working here. We think they remembered us as well. One immediate observation that I had was the prices of the dim sum and other non dim sum items. They have indeed gone up twice as much if not more. That's inflation for you. Another observation was that some of the items got larger in size... this could justify the price increase. As for flavor and taste of the dim sum, I feel some have diminished unfortunately. The only items I would say made the decent tasting cut list were the crispy shrimp balls, pan fried shrimp chives dumpling, and pan fried seafood dumpling. Shrimp har gow, sui mai, tofu fish paste were not the greatest. You would think taste and flavor would be the same as before or better due to price increase. Sometimes quality gets sacrificed for whatever reason. That's really too bad IMHO. Staff was still friendly and nice as before which is good. I think the last time j was here was before COVID. I am surprised they are still here. I went there today for its dim sum but the quality is lacking. As a regular customer, again after the pandemic, I must confess that everything is back to normal & tastes as good as before! Price and taste are back to normal. If you want to eat-in, though, they don't emphasize in cleanliness of the tables. But they are very friendly and price per value compared to other dimsum places are incomparable -- cheaper than par. If you're not wanting to deal with the long lines at sit down dimsum places and don't care for the occasional rush hour lines, this is your spot for TO-GO dimsum. Well it's mine :) Some of the staff is friendly and some can be just very matter of fact. So don't take it personal. You can pay via cash or credit card. You order at the start of the line and make your way from the pan fried stuff to the steamed stuff to finally the baked stuff. Most of the items have 3-4 items in one order. Prices are decent from all under $6, but everything has gone up in price this year. The food is OK, not gonna lie. It's average and edible but not like amazing. But if you're hungry and you want more, it's good pretty good variety of basic stuff. They also have roasted pork and BBQ right next door in case you wanna take some to go. If you are hungry and want to eat there, they have plenty of tables that not very many people sit at right in front of the cafe, next to the supermarket. They do close on Wednesdays. 02/03/2024 I've heard of Yum Cha Cafe but the bigger sign says Dim Sum Cafe. Doesn't matter, I am getting a watch adjusted at one of the nearby booths so I stopped here for snacks. There's a short line and it does go quick. You could get a full dish like hainan chicken or roasted pork. The dim sum is to the right where you could point and call it out. I ordered the beef rice noodles and BBQ pork baked buns. The pork buns were cold and doesn't have the glossy honey top I'm used to seeing. So you should get the steamed BBQ pork buns instead. Otherwise, if you are taking it home, you could bling this out yourself. Behind the counter, these people are hustling so instead of my original rating, it's higher marks and stars. read more

We've only ever gotten their roasted turkey here every Thanksgiving but holy moly what a turkey! Not only is it hot and ready for you to carve and eat when you pick it up, it is delicious! It's always flavorful all throughout and the white meat is always tender and the dark meat is even better. Way better than any other turkey we've had anywhere else! Plus, you get a free takeout box of sticky rice "stuffing" and some chicken baos with every turkey order. It was about $78 in total for a 10-ish pound turkey which we think is a great deal as you don't need to spend hours cooking it yourself or have to take it home and heat it up before serving. This place is pretty decent for what it is. I always go to the supermarket here but never really to this deli area. Didn't even know there was an actual name for the place until I saw on the tables that it says it is reserved seating for Yum Cha Cafe. I got the steamed buns (with all the pork/chicken/egg inside), some chicken ($5), and an order of siu mai ($3.99) that came in 4 pieces. I thought the steam bun was decent and the chicken was pretty good but I have definitely eaten better siu mai elsewhere. There is plenty of seating and options here along with dim sum, congee, noodle soups, roasted duck, and many bun options. I can't say this is a go to place for me but it is very conveniently located if you are going grocery shopping. read more

We picked up a turkey here for Thanksgiving. It also came with complimentary sticky rice and buns. Everything was pretty good and the turkey was huge. It was able to feed more than 15 people and we still had a lot of leftovers. Free and easy to find parking in the parking lot. Service was good here. Hopefully we can come back and try their dim sum. read more

The cashier is very bad service. They changed me wrong. Add a duck on my bill but I don't order and receive it. When I ask for why, the cashier who keep yelling at me in public and kept saying I took the duck. I am looking for a problem solution not the yelling without doing any checking. If you been to the San Gabriel Superstore, then you know there's a dim sum place hidden inside. For those who have never heard of Dim Sum Cafe, it's a small restaurant inside the San Gabriel Superstore, that's close to the entrance of the store tucked away in the corner. So the parking is the same as if you were going to the San Gabriel Superstore. The food here is close to authentic as you can get and at a pretty decent price. Prior to the pandemic, they had tables scattered around for those who wanted to dine in. Now all the tables are pushed to the side and there's a long line of customers waiting to order dim sum. If you never been here, word of warning you may find the service to be a bit more abrasive, pushy, and loud. Take no offense as this is just how they are. They just want to get people what they want and as quickly as possible. In my latest visit, I ordered the same old items I had ordered before and the quality is still there. I ordered chicken feet, pineapple buns, baked pork buns, and egg tarts. The chicken feet were the best part. It was cooked in a way where the skin and meat just fell off the bones. Next up I would rate the egg tarts as my second best item. The egg to tart ratio was perfect. There was more egg than the tart shell. It was nice and crispy! If you're in the mood for dim sum filler items like the buns, the pineapple custard buns and baked pork buns are the way to go. With dim sum you can just keep eating every little but of everything and not really get full, so that's where the buns come in. The pineapple custard buns are different from the ones you find at other dim sum spots because they are more oblong and oval shaped than the normal round ones. I find that shape for the best and easy bites. They also sell noodles, wonton soups, chicken, roast duck and roast pork. So if you're in the mood are in need of those food items, it's your one stop shop. I would recommend stopping here if you finished shopping or just craving some dim sum. read more

I'm very skeptical of all the 5 star ratings for this establishment. My wife and I went shopping at the market and decided to try the dim sum since we were both hungry. We ordered 7 items, beef meat balls, tofu skin wrapped meat rolls, sui mei, chicken feet, baked buns with custard, bi tang gao, and jumbo size shrimp har gao. The only item that tasted authentic was the bi tang gao. Everything else tasted un-authentic, I mean not even close. In addition the color of the items were hideous, the chicken feet were orange color not the normal soy sauce color. The custard in the baked buns were also orangy colored instead of the yellowish cream color. The sui mei and beef meat balls tasted weird. So far, neither one of us have any stomach issues, obviously, we will not be going there again. Two positives, the prices was reasonable and the lady helping us was very nice. read more

I've only bought stuff here to-go, even before the pandemic. I'm not sure why--the cafeteria-style seating seems kind of fun. It's cheap dim sum if you just want a fix and don't want to spend a lot of go through the hassle of ordering from a big restaurant. Their siu mai and har gou are decent (these are the basics dishes that serve as a water mark when comparing eateries). I've also ordered their char siu rolled rice noodles. I'm not a fan of their steamed buns. The filling is way salty and the proportion is off with the amount of dough. read more

I'm always a suckered to give horrible places a chance. There are plenty of parking for the San Gabriel Superstore. Park on the San Gabriel Blvd side. This dimsum deli has 2.99 for most dim sum items like beef ball and shrimp har gaw. I bought an order of beef ball (3ct) and shrimp hargaw (4ct). The beef ball does not come with the dark vinegar sauce. The lady told me to add soy sauce from my kitchen. Beef balls are not round, has some chopped white radish but does not have the tofu skin at the bottom. The taste does not have the texture crunch from chopped up water chestnut. As for the small shrimp haw gaw, the skin broke before I touched it. The skin at the tip is also very hard. Very poor quality regardless of price. Food is very heavy with MSG based on my after taste experience. Minus 2 stars. The woman who served me lacked good customer service. Telling me to use soy sauce from my home is very ridiculous. Minus 1 star. No receipt. Minus 1 star. Previous reviewers also have reported bugs in their food. Multiple previous reviewers have reported getting sick or food poison. I hate writing bad reviews. But this place has really bad quality dim sum. I would not come here with a craving. I use to come here slot when I was a kid with my dad. It was cheap but wasn't this bad quality. This is a place to save money or just to fill my stomach up if I was market shopping and suddenly became hungry. Seating is dirty and gross. Sauce and sticky all over tables. Guest there are inconsiderate and leave a mess. Employees don't clean up that often . Not during my 1 hour stay, I haven't wen them come out and at least wipe the tables. I give one star because the employees are very nice and polite. The BBQ pork bun is nasty. It was bitter. Steamed stuffed noodles was gross. The noodle part was hard and only came with 1 shrimp for each noodle. It was dry on the edges. 10/11/2024 afternoon, I bought a $5.39 bun so I paid $5.40. The cashier man took it and didn't give receipt and one cent change. I did not ask for one cent and receipt, but I did not go so I looked other items. I looked at the roast chicken (lemon grass chicken) and the chef came out and asked how can he help me. I told the chef I wanted half $9.99. The male cashier told $11.01 (plus tax) and did I have one cent? Since the cashier asked one cent for $11.01 and failed to made a change one cent for $5.40, the cashier is greedy. I gave $20 to the cashier and reminded him he did not give me back the one cent change yet for my recent bun purchase. Without saying a word, the cashier gave me back $8.99. That showed the shop has coin but the cashier on purpose goes down to one cent business. The cashier is greedy. I told the cashier he did not make a change to one cent for my bun purchase and he still asked one cent for my lemongrass chicken purchase. The cashier became arrogant and threw a cent to me. The cashier is rude in the point of view of customer service by throwing a cent to customer to pick it up. The cashier continued to defend himself by he took a position of identity theft by he said I didn't take one cent which was not given to me as well as contradicting to my talking the cashier did not gave back a change for my bun purchase. I really like this place. I used to come here often with my parents when I was young to order their to go dim sum. I only come occasionally now, but still order the usual siu mai, pork spare ribs, chicken feet, and anything they have still left (I come later in the day so they sometimes run out of my favorites too). Next to the dim sum aisle is their bbq meat section. You pay for everything in the dim sum line too, so when we order the duck or chicken, we pay for everything in the same line. I remember eating the dim sum right after ordering and then shopping to "walk" off the food we consumed. I remember brining my high school friends to try dim sum, they enjoyed it. Dishes are under $2 each, and you save on not necessarily having to tip either, so it's affordable for a quick snack to stop by and eat. It's a fairly good value, especially if you're on a portion controlled diet and just want to eat selectively yet affordable to a budget too. In addition to Dim Sum, they also offer other food items including a BBQ area where you can get roast duck and other meats and treats by the pound as well as noodle soup, including Won Ton. Fairly fast service. Fair price. I find it a bit hard to order, the dishes are in full view but they are closed with lids so you cant tell the server what you want. And the glass is always steamed up so you cant see the dishes that dont have the lids. I wish there was a better way, not just here, but at all the dim sum places. read more

The dim sum here is decent. Not quite sit-down dim sum restaurant quality but it's fast and cheap here at Yum Cha Cafe. Yum Cha is located inside the super market. They open early...dine in or take it togo. There are tons of different dim sum items ready to go. Pork siu mai was $1.49 per order (4 pcs) while the shrimp har gow was $1.79 per order. Cheap stuff, okay dim sum if you want some quick and easy and are hungry. I wouldn't recommend this if you were taking your date or your family to eat as the food is just okay. read more

I just found this spot inside the S G. Super. I didn't even know it was here. The dimsum was ok. The shu mai doesn't have any shrimp, so not that flavorful. The sesame balls jin doing was old.
