Phu's Bakery has been on my to-visit list for a while now. Finally, I have arrived. Got here about one hour or so before closing time on a late Saturday afternoon. I was super surprised they no longer allow customers inside their bakery. All orders are done at the front door entrance that has been plastered with clear thick plastic. I had to view the pastries and baked goods through the window from the outside which wasn't an issue for me. Items are labeled with name and price. Good variety of selections. Prices are very affordable. Unfortunately, the one item I came here to get was all gone for the day. No more egg tarts. I was bummed, but no worries. I still got other stuff. I'll catch the egg tarts next time. I left with 6 items for a total of $12+ which wasn't bad at all. Everything was quite good except for the durian biscuit which didn't have the deep durian flavor I was looking for and sponge cake that was slightly dry. Coconut bun could use a bit more coconut. Taro bun had strong taro flavor and lots of it. Vegetable and pork bun was savory and filling. What stood out for me was the mantou... plain, but soft and bouncy with the perfect hint of sweetness... I loved it! 1. Coconut bun 2. Durian biscuit 3. Plain steamed bun (mantou) 4. Sponge cake 5. Steamed taro bun 6. Steamed vegetable and pork bun I'll be back for my egg tarts and more mantou!
This place continues to offer great Portuguese egg tarts. $2 for one now. I went to pick some up yesterday. It was so fresh. The egg was just so smooth. Not too sweet and not oily. They offered other items as well. Their bao/buns were also very fresh.. I came when they just finished with the baos. I got some pork & veggies ones & bbq pork. It was $2 for one as well. Pretty good. Note. Didn't get to browse the shop. Ordered at the door. Customer service was great. Telephone service was great Parking avail
Parking: Super easy with plaza parking lot. Interior: They were taking orders at the door with menu posted outside. Wait Time: line was maybe 4-5ppl long so took a few minutes. Order was packed immediately so overall it's a quick pick up. Items Order: 9/10 Egg tarts $1.7 (2024)- Custard was bomb, not too sweet. It came fresh, hot, and shells were buttery. $20 min for card or they accept cash/zelle
Phu's Bakery is no-frills. They display their pastries at the window, and you may order at the door in front of a foldable table. We ordered two dozen egg tarts (that were kept warm) and two pork sung rolls, and paid cash. Both the egg tarts and pork sung rolls were delicious. The egg tarts were a hit at our gathering, and the pork sung rolls were a fantastic snack. Highly recommend! The parking lot is a bit busy with nearby food and beverage businesses, but doable!
My goodness! I am in love with Phu's Bakery Portuguese egg tarts! It is really one of the best egg tarts I have ever tried. The crust is flaky and buttery. The custard is creamy, silky, light, and has the perfect texture When I got them, they were warm and very fresh. The first bite was like an explosion of flavor in my mouth. They were irresistible! I also tried hot dog bun without cheese. It was savory and fresh. Their durian biscuit was sweet and creamy. They don't allow entry to the store. You have to order from outside. The service was fast. The bakery is located at Vikon Center. There were plenty of parking spots shared with other businesses. Definitely,I will be back.
Definitely a hidden gem I stumbled across a couple years ago. It's a small, walk-up style bakery, no dine-in, just a window where you place your order after checking out the display of baked goods. I've tried some of their breads, which were decent, but nothing too special. What really stands out here are the egg tarts. They're legit flaky, custardy , and honestly better than what I've had at a lot of dim sum spots. Whenever I'm heading to a party or visiting friends, I'll often grab a box to bring as a gift. Just a heads up they're pretty much cash only, so come prepared.
$20 min credit card charge & $2 Portuguese egg tart. If you don't have cash, you better buy 10 egg tarts lol! The price is quite unbeatable and the egg tart itself is so flaky and warm. You must eat them while they're freshly out of the oven / bakery because they don't sit well after a while. I bought half a dozen so I could save one for the morning and it felt apart but I still ate it, it wasn't as good as when I had it fresh/warm. The bakery shop is old style and it's not for sitting down but they do have a parking lot. Service was fast.
Phu's Bakery is a bakery in Rosemead known for their Portuguese Egg Tarts. They have other breads and baked goods as well; however, the egg tarts are what they're known for. When you come in, they don't let you inside and you order at the door. All of their baked goods are lined up in front of their window. Their popular tarts go for $2 each. I bought four and they were served hot. The pastries were flaky and the custard was pretty egg-forward. It's OK (3 stars) for me because I prefer the dessert with a little more sweetness. Being able to get hot and fresh Portuguese egg tarts is nice and, if you're looking for egg tarts, then you should check it out; however, their sweetness level isn't what I prefer.
I've been searching for a local bakery specializing in egg tarts and other Chinese pastries, and my wife, who is a very picky eater when it comes to sweets, was impressed with the pineapple biscuit, wife cake, and egg tarts. Phu's Bakery is located in the Vikon Center, which is in the same plaza as Tantawan Thai Kitchen. It is to-go only. They accept cash, credit, and debit cards with a $20 minimum, as well as Zelle. Their Portuguese-style egg tarts are perfectly sweet and creamy with a flaky crust, reminding me of the ones we had in Macau. The Wife Cake is also nice and flaky with a sweet center, and I enjoyed the pineapple biscuit as well, but my favorite was the egg tarts and wife cake. Prices aren't listed, but for 2 egg tarts, pineapple biscuit, wedding cake, and red bean cake, our total was $11.25. We will definitely be back for more of their delicious cakes and pastries.
One of my go to bakeries to buy egg tart! In the morning it's so warm and fresh. Since covid, they have not let customers into the store. Most breads are available on display. Some are in the back but written on the menu at the door. There is a curtain that you order and pick up from. Her cash register is still inside though haha so she runs back and forth. Bring cash as there is a $20 spend minimum for credit card use. We always get their egg tarts and it's become a famous shop for egg tarts in the SGV. So warm flaky custardy and slightly sweet. Custard is super eggy and there's nice color on the outside. Breads and buns are on par with the other Chinese bakeries and they do a great job with speciality traditional pastries and bakery products. The owner is running a business not a run club so she may seem a bit rude out front but it's just her RBF. Quick and efficient. There are also no public restroom!
we have been coming here for years for our custard egg tarts, even though it's a little bit pricey it's definitely worth it. The Portuguese egg tarts here are absolutely delicious. normally whenever we have a family gathering, I always buy these lovely desserts after lunch to bring with me. today, I went early in the morning when they first opened and the egg tarts were still fresh and warm. They used to sell out earlier in the day, but I guess business has been great over the years that now, they continually keep baking egg tarts until they close. The lady is very nice at the door. She asks what you want and reconfirms before she charges you. Service is pretty quick. Doesn't take longer than 5 to 10 minutes when you're picking up your baked goods. as long as you purchase over $20-$25 you can use a credit card otherwise make sure you bring cash.
Whenever I'm in the area, stopping by for their egg tarts is a must! They still operate "COVID-style," with orders taken outside the shop--which I don't mind at all since the service is quick and efficient. Just a heads-up: once items sell out for the day, they don't restock--so go early if you want the full selection! The egg tarts are incredibly well made and still taste amazing the next day after a quick reheat in the air fryer. Their pineapple buns are also a favorite, but they were sold out during my last visit. If you're ever nearby, definitely check out this gem of a bakery!
On our egg tart tour, we visited Pau's Bakery to try their Portuguese egg tarts at $2 each. Service was fast and line not long as you order at the window and take it to go. Taste wise, the egg tart had authentic flavor with flaky crust and creamy filling creamy, but didn't knock it out of the park (more 3.5 stars). If you're in the area, the eggs are good to take home as affordable treats. There were other pastry and bread available here, but they didn't stand out to the freshly made egg tarts.
Stopped by for some fresh portuguese egg tarts. 6 egg tarts for $10.51 so about $1.75 each. There is a menu taped on the window but there were no prices listed. Their portuguese egg tarts were made fresh and very warm when I received it. Their filling is delicious creamy and not too sweet. Since my previous visit, I did realize a difference in the crust as it's more thicker and not as light. read more

Date:09/2023 *Finally tried their famous Portugese Egg Tart!（葡式蛋挞） Personally I would say it's just decent. The egg tart is served hot, not greasy, it has a slightly studier shells ( kinda like a mix of pastry puff & shortbread), but still crisp and flaky. The egg custard filling is not too sweet which is a plus but heavier on milky taste. Comparing to Jim's bakery- Jim's Portugese egg tart shell is soft and flaky, no heavy milky taste but overly sweet, just alright. * Taro puff pastries (芋头酥） Fresh, soft puff pastry, not greasy and not overly sweet taro filling. No artificial flavors! If comparing to Jim's Bakery, i think both are equally good, the only tiny difference is Phu's Bakery taro pastries is softer than Jim's Bakery. *Steamed BBQ pork bun(蒸叉烧包）-$1.80 Soft bun and semi sweet savory bbq pork filling(less sweet than average steamed bbq pork bun) , no weird pork taste. Decent. Con: less filling not fluffy enough. *Mooncakes- Durian flavors ($5.50) Kinda taste artificial and sweet, not recommended. Only front door open for odering and it's easy! Just order to the lady( menu is posted on their front window), pay and wait, then she will hand you the order. Extra containers will be charged. Overall it's a decent Asian bakery with fresh baked goods daily and quick service. Definitely will be coming back for more! read more

This location sells one of the best pu-tarts. I usually come here after visiting Kim Ky. Their pu-tarts taste crunchy on the outside & soft in the center. The price is really affordable for the pu-tarts too! They blocked the entrance due to COVID, so Service here can be slow if there's a line. read more

The pork Sung roll here is my favorite, and it's a must-order every time I come. It's soft and chewy, not too sweet, satisfying my taste buds without the worry of high sugar or weight gain. I also love the red bean yolk pastry and taro pastry. All the pastries are made fresh daily, and I enjoy coming here. read more

Fresh, warm egg tarts with a buttery flaky crust and light custardy egg filling! One of the best egg tarts I've ever had. They aren't as sweet as most other egg tarts but that's a plus for me. Wanted to try a few other items but they were out of stock by the late afternoon. My total came out to be around $10 for 8 egg tarts, fyi there is a $20 minimum for credit cards. Service was quick and friendly. The workers were very covid conscious and orders were taken at the window instead of entering the store. Would have appreciated prices on the menu they have posted on the window. Overall, super affordable and delicious, will be returning for more egg tarts to share with friends and family! read more

Around $1 egg tarts!! It used to be $1 even, but they raised it to a little over $1 now, but you still can't beat the price! I remember years ago they started as a minivan driving around SGV selling baked goods. I would always buy bread from them because I knew how hard working the owner was. Years later, they finally have a storefront and I'm so happy for them! The egg tarts are some of the best I've had. It's definitely less sweet than most egg tarts and the inside is super custardy. The best part is that you won't be able to find a cheaper egg tart. I'm so happy the owner is doing well! Support small businesses! read more

I came here to get egg tarts because I saw all these great reviews and pictures of egg tarts. At first I was skeptical about the quality of the egg tarts because people had mentioned that it's really cheap compared to other bakeries and dim sum places. I arrived at the bakery and there is a line. You can't go inside to look so they have a menu posted on the window and you order at the door. I see most people order a box or boxes of egg tarts and other stuff. I decided to order 10 egg tarts to try. The egg tarts came out nice and warm so I had to eat one in the car. It was so delicious! It did not disappoint at all. I can't believe it only cost a little over a dollar. Now I can see why people buy boxes of them. This will be my new go to spot for egg tarts! I will want to try the other pastries as well next time. read more

The Portuguese egg tart here is really fresh. I was skeptical about it because in the box it didn't look so appealing but once I actually ate it, it was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of sweet pastries and so this tart was perfect for me. It wasn't too sweet but just enough amount of sweetness for my preference. The egg filling weren't overwhelming as well! So glad I found this establishment I will definitely return for more pastries! read more

One of the best bakeries in SGV for Paste De Nata (Portuguese egg tart). So far I found this place has the flavor and taste that's closest to the ones made in Macau. The egg tart has the flakiest shell with creamy and soft custard filling. I can probably eat 10 of them without stopping. They are so delicious. I brought a box of a dozen to a Christmas this Saturday, they were an instant hit. Besides egg tarts, the bakery has excellent Chinese bake goods such as paper sponge cakes, Walnut cookies, Bolo Bun, and other goodies. I found out that they also do custom made birthday and wedding cakes. I browsed their book and saw that they have pretty good cake designs. This is a small bakery and they are still in COVID locked down mode. You can only see the bake goods through their windows and order through a small window. The service was not too good either. I would have given them a five stars if they were more friendly. The girl took our order seemed to be very unhappy. She didn't want to answer any of our questions. read more

Their Portuguese egg tarts was so good! they were warm! the outside crust was flaky and the inside was creamy and delicious! Whenever I come down to the San Gabriel Valley, I would bring back yummy pastries back home. I would come here for their delicious Portuguese egg tarts which has quite a bit of custard with a crispy flakey crust. It comes in a nice packaging box and would make great gifts. read more
Best portugese egg tarts I've had in the US. And they're not pricey too which leads me to give them a 5/5. The egg custard is creamy and soft and sweet. And the crust is nice and buttery. An egg tart is just about $1 each. I also tried the mochi - which wasn't what I was expecting! But it was still good. Stuffed with peanut, sesame, sugar, and something else. The taro pastry: generous taro filling and super dense / sweet as well. I love the ratio between the filling and the pastry. An authentic and delicious tasting asian treat. The green tea / matcha pastry: pretty decent green tea flavor! The pastry itself is quite dense and sweet. Definitely should share or cut it up. Parking is ample and free in the parking lot (plaza parking) and there's also street parking. They don't allow customers to come inside anymore and they take all orders at the front door (there's a table set up). When I went at 2:30pm on a Sunday, I was #3 in line. By the time it was my turn, there was probably 7-8 people in line behind me so they're definitely popular. read more
SOOO CREAMY! We stopped by to try the po tats or portuguese egg tarts. They are served warm and the filling is so light and creamy. Yet it doesn't taste too rich to weight you down. The filling is perfectly mild too being too sweet or unsweet. However, if you like your desserts to be very sweet you might find this po tat slightly underwhelming in the sugar department. The crust is slightly flaky and doesn't make too much of a mess. Would definitely recommend to spot by and pick up and box to try!! read more

They don't accept credit card if it's under $20 but they do take Venmo! Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - egg tarts fresh were absolutely delicious. Even when it's cooled, it's amazing Ambience: N/A cannot go into the shop and the counter is a table at the door. Lots of workers in the store and baked goods at almost all the shelves in the window. Parking will be a bit tough. Service: 5/5 - very quick and to the point. Addressed the line out the door as quickly as they could Value for price: 5/5 - one of the cheaper places for egg tarts. There are rare times where I go into work later in the morning than usual and I'm in 626 beforehand. With Phu's Bakery a short 3 minute drive from the parents, I had to make a stop to buy some to try! 6 Portuguese Egg Tarts, 1 taro biscuit, 1 red bean egg yolk biscuit, and 1 coconut bun came out to $11 and some change. LET'S TALK ABOUT GREAT PRICES! The egg tarts were a little over $1 each, which is phenomenal. If you go to any other bakeries a few miles west, it's easily $2-$3 each for very similar quality. The egg tarts were huge! The crust was buttery and flakey, but the "egg" part was nice and smooth. I did wish there was a little bit more sugar on the top, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The other three items were okay/average. There wasn't anything to scream about, but definitely added bonuses for when I do an egg tart pick up! I also really appreciate that they set up a little ordering area at the door. Great way to limit exposure and still get everyone what they need! read more
Delicious Portuguese egg tarts! This bakery has a long list of your traditional Chinese breads and assorted pastries for sale but the most popular item here is definitely the Portuguese egg tarts. While there was not a long line when I arrived, there were people arriving and leaving non-stop. It seems like you can also call in and reserve egg tarts if you want to make sure they don't run out before you can make it over! Very decently priced and one of the best Portuguese egg tarts I've had. There is a $20 credit card minimum so bring cash or just buy a lot! read more
There is no dining inside this bakery, and they only accept cash, so make sure you have some bills handy with you! The "dan tat" or Portuguese egg tarts here are made fresh to order and this is definitely their best seller. If you order 12 of them, you'll still come back wanting more! Amazing Portuguese egg tarts!!! They're perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy + sweet on the inside. For about $1 something each, they're a steal. I always see a line for this place on the weekends so you know it's good. Can't wait to come back and try other bakery items. I believe they accept card over $10. read more

Service was quick and simple. Order in the front door. You can call and preorder dozen of Egg-tarts for pick up to save time. I think there was 12 tarts per box. Make sure to give the staff the correct name and contact number. Staff will not hand off the order until it's verified on their end. Known for their Egg tarts and it didn't disappoint! Decent size. Hot, fresh, and tasted great. 10/10! Custard is perfect. Crust is baked nicely. Wife cake (Lao Po Bing) is also worth trying. Thin and flaky crust. Not too sweet. read more
This is now one of my favorite Chinese bakeries! They are authentic and reasonably priced. Everything we have tried is so good! They are best known for their Portuguese egg tarts (if they run out at the end of the day, that's it!) Since we loved all their baked good, I decided to order a mango cake for my friends baby shower and everyone loved it!! The mango is sweet, the cake is fluffy and not just filled with cream. It's not overly sweet and the cream was perfection. Fortunately, they also take credit card (with a minimum purchase of $10). I can't wait to come back again for their baked goods. My go to items are their Portuguese egg tarts, taro pastry ball, and meat/veggie bun. They occasionally run out of the mochi, so I haven't been able to try it, but they look so yummy and soft! Portuguese egg tarts are super affordable ($1 at the moment) and delicious here. They're a popular item and easily sell out, so definitely call ahead of time (best tip I can offer!) The piping warm egg tarts in great demand remind me of SF's Golden Gate Bakery (EXCEPT it's Portuguese egg tarts at a ..... (+) super reasonable price.... (+) has a parking lot (+) hardly a line (+) rather dependable store hours vs. the NorCal favorite!) The only gripe I have is their limited hours listed -- they're currently only open from Thursday to Sundays. Their hours can differ from what is listed on Yelp, so I would recommend you call ahead to inquire their hours and reserve your egg tarts ahead of time. Random tip- if in the area and also hungry, also swing by Banh mi my tho which is just across the street for banh mi! Their menu is slightly different than Alhambra's! read more
