Skirt Steak Tacos
Jenny W.

Thursday night is food truck night @CHS and having seen the lineup in advance, I was excited to try Piaggio and their Argentinian menu. We ordered the skirt steak tacos gauchos (their specialty) and the Argentine sausage sandwich with chimichurri fries. The skirt steak was tough and when I took my first bite, I had to wrestle with the strips of meat so I wouldn't end up swallowing everything all at once. I wish my tacos came with a side of chimichurri instead of plain boring salsa because it was really good. D had the sausage sandwich which he said was just okay (he preferred Berlin Brats). I had a bite and Sprout's freshly made sausages tasted better. I was surprised that the side of chimichurri fries did not come with any chimichurri(?!). Seems like they're a bit stingy with the good stuff. Piaggio's was just ok and i'll probably not order their tacos next time but I will give it another shot just to try their empanadas.

Skirt Steak Taco & Churros

This was my least favorite food truck of the day. I was really looking forward to it since BF eats lunch here all the time and raves about how great it is. I got a skirt steak taco, churros, and a coconut milk. The taco was way too oily and the meat just didn't have a good flavor to it. I tried the churros, honestly i'm not a sweets person, so they were just okay to me. My niece thought they were alright. The fresh coconut milk was awesome - that was the only thing that I liked, and what bumps this review from 1 to 3 stars. BF said their other food is much better. Too bad they weren't serving that today at OC Foodie Fest!

Pulled pork sliders with a side of chimichurri fries

There were some mighty fine aromas coming from this food truck, so decided to give it a shot. They have a best sellers list, so grabbed the pulled pork sliders along with a side of chimichurri fries. It comes with 2 sliders on those tiny King's Hawaiian buns that immediately soak up the pork juice and become a soggy mess. Generous amount of pork, pretty tender, but not too flavorful. The chimichurri fries were super crisp, but was lacking when it came to the chimichurri. Scantly tossed on top, it was more veggie than sauce, which was kinda weird. I'm not familiar with Argentinian food, maybe it's supposed to be like that? Either way, I thought it was a pretty bland meal :/ Blah Maybe I'll grab those dulce de leche churros next time instead!

Tilapia taco; looks better than it tastes.

Lunch round-up at the OC Fair grounds. 7 trucks with 3 serving dessert & not actual food. Don't think I'll be back but Argentinian food as a whole, I have not written off! The food slips got mixed up and they forgot one of my items. The bill total should have come to $9 (burrito, tilapia taco & chicken empanada) but it somehow came to $7. I waited about 30 mins and had to re-order for them to redo what someone else took(?) The taco and empananda were both so so in flavour & temperature. Bummer.

Piaggio is still one of the veteran food trucks whose owner still works on the food truck. You can find owner Coli or wife Rosane working either the lunch or dinner shift. I remember the first day they rolled out in downtown Fullerton. I believe that was three or four years ago, and they are still very strong in the Orange County, and now, Los Angeles community. I do notice that the quality of the food is much better when the owners are on the truck. The love is definitely there, as well as the great customer service. My favorites items are the pulled pork sliders and their Argentine skirt steak over the chimichurri fries. The empanadas are still one of the best deals in town, 2 chicken or caprese empanadas for $6. The menu has changed over the years, and some of the food prices have gone up a little. Unfortunately with gas and food prices going up, food truck owners must adjust. They do have vegetarian friendly menus, and will accommodate most dietary needs. I'm very proud that they are still one of the top food trucks in Southern California, with fair, competitive prices.

Chimichurri fries were good, but I'm not one to waste precious tummy space with side carbs. The porker sandwich was savory and flavorful, but a little tough to bite into. The blue cheese paired well with the pepper, meat, and french bread. One star deducted because there was a substantial puddle of grease under my sandwich when I picked it up. The pulled pork sliders were the perfect size on hawaiian bread rolls and hit the spot. The pricing was fair and the service was great. Just wish the truck had a full menu at the LA County Fair. Hope to see you again soon, Piaggio!

Piaggio isn't quite the Empanada Man in Lake Forest but hey, the empanadas I got to try for $2 each at OC DinDinAGoGo were not bad. I got the chicken and caprese. I was confused for a few seconds wondering how they would get a caprese salad into an empanada and how that would taste but I've been feeling adventurous lately and I think that's a good thing. My blind trust vs my good judgment has served me better. I wonder what that says about me and before I get carried away on some rant about myself let's move on shall we? I didn't care too much for the green sauce however the dough was light, flaky, and crispy and the filling was well cooked, flavorful, spicy and tasted pretty good. Enough for me to give them another chance if I happened to see them elsewhere. I'm still waiting to see how they compare to Barcelona On The Go. The story might change after that but for now, Piaggo you ain't so bad.

Los Alamitos Din-A-Go-Go...6/14/11.

Los Alamitos Din-A-Go-Go 6/14/11. Nice job Piaggio...skirt steak taco was yummy and the PULLED PORK taco was even more yummy!!! A great start to a nice even of lots of food. No long waits, tacos came out fresh and quick. I'll have to try the other things on their menu if I see them again. I truly enjoyed the tacos which were stacked full of meat and cilantro!

Gerri G.

Skip Piaggio and go directly to Barcelona on the Go. Chimichurri is not simply parsley coated in oil. This is what the fries look like once you've eaten the steak, which wasn't flavorful with no garlic in the chimichurri.

I'm starting to get into this whole "food truck craze," and I must say, so far, it has been a very fun and, of course, tasty experience. Piaggio's came to my school for an annual event called "Jazz at the Oak" (we have a huge Oak tree at our school, and the three jazz bands play by it... simple enough, eh)? Anyway, I was more excited than usual for this event because of this certain food truck. As usual, I did my research on Piaggio's on yelp and decided to split a bunch of the following items with my friends: chicken and steak tacos gauchos, chicken burrito porteno, argentine sausage sandwich, pulled pork sliders, chimichurri fries, and churros con dulce de leche. Burrito porteno Once again, very good ingredients, but it did not wow me. Argentine sausage sandwich What a menu item! Fantastic seasoning of the sausage and there was no question that it was the centerpiece of the sandwich. Great stuff! Pulled pork sliders My first bite of the sliders was okay, but with every bite, I was more and more impressed. Fresh pulled pork and tasty sauce... admittedly, not one of the best pulled pork items I've ever had, but it definitely does the job! Chimichurri fries Nothing too out of the ordinary either, but still very, very good. Churros con dulce de leche Great crunch, but if you get a piece that doesn't have a lot of dulce de leche (caramel), it definitely is not mind-blowing. What impressed me the most about this truck was the service! Even though the line was long (which was definitely not Piaggio's fault), the cashier was EXTREMELY friendly, and the food was out in no time. Great stuff! This will definitely not be my last Piaggio's experience, but rather the first of many :)

Amazing customer service! The food was good and quick. I really wish I could give 4.5 stars. Service: 5/5 the owner was quick and friendly. Food: Churros con dulce de leche 4.5 (but 5 if you asked my husband) the Carmel sauce was so yummy but no sugar in the actual churro. Friend Chicken over fries: 4 the chicken was pretty good. It needed a sauce but the ones they had didn't pair well IMO. Asade Fries: 4.5 the sauce in those was really good! The fries were a nice size and paired perfectly. Mexican coke: 5 - I love that they have them and they are HUGE. 500ml. For the price I would def try it. I loved the concept for sure

Sausage Sandwich

My foodie friend fo life kent d. recently yelped about happy eats from Piaggio so when I was out in the OC and they were there I had to give them a try. They specialize in Argentinean eats so chimichurri with everything please! Kent said the Empanadas were a must so I ordered two Chicken for $2 each (Caprese was the other option). The super sweet man working the truck (whom I later found out as we were talking was Piaggio himself) recommended the Sausage Sandwich to me. I was hungry and wanted to try one other thing so sure why not! Oh and we had to throw in an order of the Churros con Dulce de Leche to finish off the meal. Piaggio was so sweet to let me pay for the Churros up front but let me come back to tell them when I was ready for them. Empanadas were slightly on the smaller side (i'm spoiled bc i have had the Che truck) and were $2 each. Even though they were small, the flaky shell was filled full with saucy chicken and crisp veggies. Dipped in the chimi I really enjoyed my Empanada. Isa did not care for the empanada much so I happily ate hers. But hers was way different from mine. It had more veggies than mine had and barely any chicken. It was good but I liked my first one better. The Sausage Sandwich ($5) was simple yet tasty. It was served on a great soft bread. The flavorful sausage was sliced perfectly so it didn't slide out of the bread when you took a bite. That really impressed me. Churros con Dulce de Leche ($3) was a portion of 4 topped with warm caramel. The perfect food truck sweet treat if you ask me. I loved them! I'm glad for kent's recent review for the Piaggio truck, that they then were in the same place and same time as me and that I have the courage that Obi Wan Bill C. passed down to me to give new trucks a try. I'm a fan!

Trina D.

I tried them out while at the OC Fair. Considering the prices at the fair, Piaggio was my best bet. We tried the porker and the empanadas. The sandwich was cut in half and made to order. Service was great. Seriously delicious. The chimichurri sauce is addictive. They accept credit cards. I'll be back!

THE PORKER ($7) - Marinated loin of pork, grilled, served on French bread with roasted red peppers, bleu cheese and chimichurri

The shopping center has that classic old Orange County western-style vibe, and there was plenty of parking available. Once inside, the restaurant was spotless, welcoming, and had a surprisingly large menu with lots of options to choose from. The cashier was also incredibly friendly and offered some great recommendations. We ended up ordering the carne asada fries with extra meat, a bean and cheese burrito, and a beer-battered fish taco. The portions were impressive, especially the fries. They came loaded with carne asada, guacamole, and sour cream, and there was more than enough for all three of us to share. Despite our best effort, we still couldn't finish them. The bean and cheese burrito was a hit with the kids and made for a simple, satisfying option. My favorite item, though, was the beer-battered fish taco. The soft corn tortilla, fresh cabbage, and crispy fish all came together perfectly. Everything tasted fresh, and the fish was hot, crunchy, and packed with flavor. It was honestly one of the better fish tacos I've had in quite a while. Overall, this was a great find and an easy 5-star experience. Good food, generous portions, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

I understand that some dishes can take longer, but from what we could tell, our order wasn't anything that should have caused such a delay. The Cuban sandwich was delicious--but it felt more "Cuban-inspired" than authentic. From what I remember, a true Cuban sandwich is pressed, not just toasted. Unfortunately, the rest of our order had multiple issues. We ordered loaded fries with carne asada but were given chicken instead. We also ordered garlic fries, which they completely forgot, so we had to wait even longer. When we finally got the fries, they weren't even garlic--they were seasoned with Tajín. That was especially disappointing since my child doesn't like spicy or citrusy flavors. To top it off, the prices are on par with a full-service brick-and-mortar restaurant, so we expected much better accuracy and service. Overall, a really disappointing experience.
