First of all, I love Piatti. I was won over by the location at the Quarry and felt like it was consistently good after a few visits. My family and I decided to test out the Piatti located at the stunning Eilan Resort and Hotel. Like the former, this location was also lovely, though the style is undoubtedly different. Unlike the Quarry's Piatti, which mostly stays true to an upscale, traditional aesthetic, this newer location is more contemporary, industrial, and rustic. We started with the fried calamari and the Prince Edward Island mussels, both of which were delicious. The sauce on the mussels was especially tasty. The standout dish of the night for us was the flat iron steak. It was buttery, melt-in-your-mouth meaty goodness. Paired with an Italian mojito (which was on the weaker side, but quite refreshing), it was a great dinner. Now, for the not-so-spectacular. The pork chop is a no-go. I never thought I'd say this, but there was simply too much cheese. I know, I know. But the taste of the fontina paired with the garlic white cheddar was SO overpowering that it took away all possible flavor from the pork chop and potatoes--which, to be honest, was not much flavor at all. Secondly, the shrimp scampi pasta was also a letdown. While the shrimp was flavorful, the pasta was limp and not particularly nuanced. Finally, for having so many wait staff, the wait time was excruciatingly long. At one point, I had to embarrassingly wave down the manager to get our check. No matter how delicious your food is, you must treat clients quickly and attentively. That's what they'll remember most. I'll likely go back one day for the setting alone (and I'll sit outside once it's cooler), but I know now what NOT to order...and not to arrive on such an empty stomach. read more

Passing thur San Antonio and needed to go to Best Buy. Yelp suggested this location for lunch and I'm glad it did! We had the semolina fried calamari, grilled Scottish salmon and the pear & arugula salad for lunch. The calamari and salmon were cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed our meal. The food was good and the ambiance was nice, but I ordered "sweet potato crusted trout with braised greens, white bean-garlic mash, and fennel" and ended up getting breaded trout with pasta and tomatoes. Not nearly the same. And when I pointed out that it wasn't what I ordered, the waiter told me "no...that's the trout" and looked like I was crazy. I wasn't going to send back the plate and make my whole table wait/feel bad, so I ate it and sure it was good but it wasn't what I ordered. The waiter even said "I see you hated the trout" when he took my plate and I had to remind him that while it was good, it wasn't what I ordered. There isn't another trout dish on the menu, so either the menu is inaccurate or I was given a random one from a past season. Everyone else's meals seemed accurate and tasty, and again the ambiance was nice so overall we had a good time. Also, a drinking glass exploded off a server's tray right behind our table. We're glad we didn't still have our food, or else they said they would have had to remove the dishes to avoid us consuming glass. Love that Piatti offers indoor and outdoor seating. Sitting outside is nice during summer evenings with the sound of the fountain. The bruschetta here is amazing! I order it every time I go. Also, the chicken Alfredo here is perfection. I'm obsessed. I always order the small portion and it's PLENTY by the time I've had the bruschetta and my side of asparagus! Piatti is an alright chain. Decent enough when it comes to food, but I wasn't overly impressed as a first timer. They have all the normal fare, from spaghetti to tiramisu. Nothing is missing here. Design inside is clean and chic. My group of ten was seated quickly and service was friendly, but meals came out slowly and there was just no spark. Give it a try. I did. It was ok. I'd go again. I kinda felt I was being judged by the hostesses but maybe it's just me. Our server took a long time at first but he did an amazing job. Everyone talked about the bread and vinaigrette so we had to try it for ourselves. They didn't disappoint. It was delcious and fresh. I had to stop myself from eating too much of it before our entrees. Anyway, onto the the pastas. My boyfriend got the chicken alfredo and it was with the bowtie pasta. He really enjoyed it. Sauce was creamy and not too heavy and it came with a lot of chicken. I had the bolognese pasta and it was pretty good. I got tired of the taste though for some odd reason. We came in a group of 7 and were seated very quickly. Staff was accommodating. We just came for desserts so we opted to sit outside as to not take up room inside especially with no prior reservation. Everything was going well until our waiter had this vibe of not wanting to be there... he barely checked on us, didn't really talk besides taking the order, and just dropped off the check without saying anything. I've dine here on several occasion at different times, if you come at lunch your chances of getting a table is good, don't come on a Friday or Saturday night with reservations unless you plan on eating late. The food is decent but not mind blowing, the portion is fair. It's a nice atmosphere to bring a date to, day or night. The dining area has a lot of glass windows to allow visibility to the outdoor fountain. I believe your paying for the location and name more than any. definitely not recommended for a large family with rowdy children due to limited seating. read more

My mom and I came here on a recommendation and were very happy with the food. We ordered a bottle of wine and the zucchini tagliatelle with tomato sauce and chicken breast. It was delicious and the zucchini noodles held their form. The star of the show was actually the complimentary bread and herbed olive oil. It was crusty with a doughy center and great at soaking up the flavorful oil and fresh herbs and spices. The only downside was the service. We had to wait about 7 minutes to be greeted at our table and over 10 minutes for the server to get our check. read more

He was willing to find out for us but during ordering three trips inside was a little (a lot!) excessive. Cesar salad was ok. The huge slice of cheap Parmesan added a bitter taste. It looked like a slice of white American cheese with the same texture. I had the Veal Piccata and it was tough and gristly with too much lemon and not enough capers. My honey had the Pasta Bolonese. When my dining companion suggested going to Piatti's last Saturday night, I was like, "the mediocre tasting meet market at the Quarry? No thanks." Boy, was I pleasantly surprised at this new location. Every single dish was remarkable. The bread was simply perfect, the dipping oil wasn't over-salted and tasted EVOO not adulterated and had just enough spice. We split a carafe of the cabernet, it was tasty and just enough for two glasses each. The charcuterie plate (brie and prosciutto) reminded me that most prosciutto served other places is peeled off a package and it is impossible to split the meat from the fat (and the fat is usually yellow and oily). THIS was FRESH and DIVINE. the fig sauce was great (not from a jar) the almonds great, the cheeses were nice foils to each other...what an enjoyable plate. We split the arugula white pizza (sans sea salt) and the brocolini. Plenty of arugula and the white part was mild so you could taste everything. The crust was excellent, you could eat it by itself :) The brocolini was cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. For dessert we split a rich and not over espresso'd tiramisu, again, lovely. I had the best decaf in a long time and my friend had a glass of port. I will definitely be back with family and friends. Please do not change a thing!!! read more

What a lovely setting. Brightly lit fountains on a gracious piazza. Atmosphere enhanced by the fact that the buildings are mostly empty, so it's quiet. Not so good for the developer, but nice for dining. Valet parking was a plus, though the valets hadn't learned to hustle yet. They should get to my wife's door long before I do. We like the Piatti down at the Rim. This one is different, but just as engaging. Our service was good, both at the bar and at the table. The calamari were nicely crisp, but there was too much nice, crisp batter and too little calamari. The taste got lost. I'm guessing that a lot of people don't mind that, but I'm one of those who thinks there should be squid in there somewhere. Hey, how about spicing up the marinara and giving me a little more? My wife liked her trout, though she said it was too heavy on the toppings. I thought it looked like some oversized mutant beast, but I didn't taste it. The trout named Shamu. I made a mistake. I should have ordered the Cioppino. It was talking to me. But I got sidetracked by a pizza--a meaty special. It was all salt. The sauce was salty, the pepperoni was salty, the calamata olives were salty.... The pie was thrown out of balance by the salt. Nice crust, though. What bothers me most about restaurants in San Antonio is the diners--something over which the restaurant has little control. The crowd tends to be badly dressed, coarsely mannered, and sometimes foul mouthed. It doesn't take long to figure out that you're not in Seattle or Chicago or Austin. Sorry to be such an elitist, and I admit that I'm more fat than fashionable, but dang, you gotta have some sort of standards. You might be able to go four stars on this place, but I don't think so. You know....I REALLY want to give this place a better review but after giving it a chance for over a year I really can't give it more than 3 stars. Lets start with the location and ambiance. Piatti at Eilan is located up on a hill right off of La Cantera and can be a little tricky to find but once you locate it, the view is beautiful. Once inside you will quickly notice its sustainable yet elegant vibe, perfect place for a date or happy hour with friends....or at least it has the potential to. Problem is, their wait staff and bartenders are not the friendliest in town. And getting consistent service is also a bit of an issue. In the past 4 months it seems to have improved a little as I think they recently went through some changes. However, there is still room for improvement. For example, my friends and I went last week and there is a female bartender who has been there from the beginning or pretty close to that but yet she still walks around the bar with what we will just call "bitch face" she appears to hate her job and people for that matter. I know this probably is not true but to customers, perception is everything. I have discussed this with other regulars and they seem to agree but because they have built a relationship with her they seem to give it a pass.....NO that is NOT OK! Management also seems to be an area that needs improvement, someone who runs a tight ship and possibly someone older than 30ish who isn't on their cell phone outside in plain view. Someone who can lead by example would probably be a better fit. I know real estate cannot be cheap there and I would hate for this establishment to get a bad reputation for things that all seem amendable. I'll continue to try and give this place a shot, the only reason we go back is because the drinks are great and the menu is wonderful, but can they PLEASE improve on the service?!! read more

Met a dear friend for dinner - we have not seen each other in 30 years so had a lot of catching up to do. Our server was terrific - took care of us but never made us feel rushed. Cocktails were great - I had an Old Fashioned and was perfect. Some places make these too strong and this was excellent. We ordered calamari which was very good too. My dinner date had salmon and enjoyed it very much. I had Rigatoni with sausage and again very good - a little heavy on sauce but great flavor. Bread and dipping oil is good too and we liked having a serving bottle of water on our table throughout the meal. We ordered wine with our dinner and passed on dessert. Menu had Italian plus other offerings such as chicken and the afore mentioned salmon. Salads and pizzas too. Our server was terrific from start to finish. The ambience is nice - quiet, view of pretty Eilan courtyard and fountain outside, candle on the table. A little dark for viewing the menu but I really enjoyed having dinner in a place that had no tv on with sports or loud music. We will return again. This would be comfortable for someone dining alone also. There is a bar area for dining or just drinking too. Highly recommend. read more

We were there early for a table for six because they don't take reservations which is stupid during the pandemic. We were told we would be seated in a few minutes. We ordered drinks (bit of a hassle) sat outside as asked. It was horribly hot. They Manager came to our table that we were having drinks at and said it would now be over an hour to be seated inside. SO we reluctantly sat outside and they had no accommodations for the heat. Suggestions: it is Texas in the summer over 100 degrees. Most nice and casual restaurants have misters outside. We had to ask several times for ice. The waitress brought us tap water which was hot in minutes. Get it together Piatti. We were miserable barely ate our food. I thought the service was fair but the poor young woman was probably about to pass out going in and out with a mask on. I went into the restaurant to the restroom and the restaurant was not very cool. Poor planning Piatti. Very disappointing. We usually go to the quarry location. Without a doubt, best food, service and ambiance we have found since moving to SA 6 months ago. We dine early or late lunch, so the service is awesome. Bread and oil always delivered quickly. Drink menu is fabulous. Food is fresh and made to order. Veal was tender and all the sauces are done with great flavor...would recommend this restaurant in a flash.
