Last night we had an overall poor experience from start to finish. It was 45 minutes from the time we sat to when we received our first basic beverage. In that time other tables, with the same server, had drinks, appetizers and one even already had their meal. Once we finally received our meals they were disappointing. Everything was lacklustre, washrooms dirty (paper towel everywhere and even bloody tissues on the counter), and not once were we checked on during the meal or to refresh water or drinks. At $100 for an adult and one child without any alcohol, there are much better restaurants with good service. read more

Upon entering greeted right away Abba said party of 2. We're immediately given a table inside. The atmosphere is quaint and modern wherever you sit there is a nice view over the water looking over to vancouver. We were asked what e would like to drink and if given water as well. After our beverage were delivered asked if we were ready to order which we were. Wifey ordered the Cajun burger but sub out the bun for lettuce wrap option and subbed in yam fries.. I ordered a cup of seafood chowder and the halibut burger. The halibut burger was tasty, the fish was cooked nicely with a battered piece of halibut. Not to much batter and had a nice crunch. Plenty of thin sliced pickles inside with decent amount of tartar sauce slathered inside the bun. Fries chunky and crispy, super fluffy but in a grainy way if that makes sense? I soapy love potatoes of any type and even eat the over fried mcd ones but I just didn't enjoy the grainy fluffed inside of these fries for some reason. Again this is my taste but I'm sure for many others this is the perfect fry. The seafood chowder was delicious. Perfect creamy flavor, decent amount of seafood for the cup portion as well as potato+ 3 croutons . I cannot speak to the Cajun chicken as I did not try it. I was too full to even take a bite. The service was ok, not spectacular. The server we had was very good at first but seemed to disappear after the first time asking if everything was fine. I think another visit before we were to pay the bill just to check in would have been appreciated. Over all decent lunch and would go back. read more

Ignore the 2.9 rating. We came up from the states for my wife's birthday and the Capilano bridge walk and an overnight at the Pinnacle in N Van. This place was great for a sunset dinner. Server was fast, welcoming and friendly. Couple of drinks, huge delicious ceasar salad, oysters, crab kale dip (amazing) and duck confi and crispy pork belly. Food came out fast and on point. Great flavors. Zero complaints! All the one and two stars people just have been half asleep. Highly recommend! read more

Not fine dining level but this is also not a fine dining venue. Very good service for a more casual place. drink - caesar - average Food - this was mediocre. I tried several things: fries - good, thick cut and crispy, the way I like them yam fries - average calamari - ok Oysters - ok, average, fresh but the variety was mediocre shrimp cocktail - average Burrata with toast - average Entree - Halibut. The veg sides it was served with were not bad. Sadly, the halibut itself was overcooked, too dry, and rubbery. I feel like this is a nice place for a casual meal, enjoy the scenery, have some drinks. This is not a great place for a nice dinner or really good food. Price was quite high considering the food was just ok, and especially with overcooked fish. Cardinal sin in the restaurant world IMO. Abundant pay parking in the nearby lots (but its not cheap). If it werent for the view and the service, for food alone this place is 2/5. read more

The two stars don't reflect the service, which was excellent. But with everything else, I just couldn't justify a higher rating. I visited with my parents for their anniversary. We got our drinks pretty quickly, but then it took some time for everything else to arrive. Initially, we were all interested in the $55 prix fixe menu. However, since my mom and I have smaller appetites, we were going to share (while my dad planned on having his own). When I went to order, I was informed the prix fixe could not be shared. I respect their rule on that, but I wish it was written on the menu then. What made things interesting as the meal progressed was that we were given extra plates and cutlery. So, you're not allowed to order the prix fixe for more than one person, but once the dishes land on the table you're free to split them however you want? Seems contradictory to me. This rule ultimately cost them sales too, because my mom and I each got appetizers instead. Had we been able to share the prix fixe, they would've made more money. The appetizers that my mom and I got were lackluster too. My seafood chowder was light on the seafood and the fries were so thickly cut that they weren't really crispy. Meanwhile, the broth for my mom's mussel dish was thin and simply didn't have as much flavour as other versions we've had. Saving grace was the truffle steak my dad selected for his prix fixe. Now that was a good dish! If I were to return to Pier7, that's what I would order. One final note: I was a bit disappointed that there was no acknowledgement of my parent's anniversary. I had made a reservation online and selected "anniversary" under the dropdown for noting a special occasion, but it seemed like the staff were unaware until I said I wanted to pay for the drinks and explained why. It wasn't very busy when we dined in, so sad they couldn't even find time to put a candle in the dessert. read more

This location has a truly stunning view, so I was disappointed when I experienced slow service, and mediocre food. I was there with a group of 8 and we were promptly sat in a wonderful location of the patio, looking out towards the Vancouver skyline and one the Seaspan Yachts. The first drink order took longer than we would have liked, but that seemed to be the trend for the remainder of the meal. There were a few items on the menu that stood out. Our friends loved the Cajun Chicken burger, the calamari was fresh and not overly-oily or breaded and the mussels were reasonably well seasoned. The dishes that didn't quite do it were the fish and chips, which were overly fried and oily and the chicken caesar salad, which was served with what we think is a store-bought dressing. As a note on service, one of the dishes was entirely forgotten and we had to remind the server about 15 minutes after everyone had been served and it evidently wasn't coming. In terms of happy hour choices, there was a good selection of discounted drinks, including the sangria, and the on-tap beers were cold and crisp. I would recommend this place for summer patio drinks with a view, and would give this place another try on food, perhaps at a less busy time to appreciate better service and hopefully food made with a little more care. read more

Came here for drinks & little bites. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated right away. They sat us by the window, beautiful view. Super nice and definitely a dressier restaurant. Service was okay, the waitresses kept talking about how bored they were. I got the peach bellini and my friend got the aperol spritz. The drinks were super sweet, nothing special though. We got truffle fries and that's a must. The fries were soft and crunchy and the aioli was so addicting. The calamari on the other hand was not tasty. It was way too chewy and the tartar sauce was off putting. Overall, was a good experience for my first night in Canada. read more

I had previously gone to Pier 7 for a friend's birthday years ago, so I jumped at the opportunity to have partake in the three course dinner with the fiancé a few weeks back (thank you again, GroupOn). By luck the weather was nice and the patio was heated, so we decided to enjoy the sunset and planned a nice evening stroll afterwards. For appetizers, I chose the Prawn Cocktail and he had the Seafood Chowder. It was a nice light start; jumbo prawns on ice and I confess the cocktail sauce tasted very similar to ketchup to me. I tried a little bit of the Seafood Chowder and it was light; I didn't taste any specific seafood, but it was nice a hot. My taste buds were comparing it to Clam Chowder, so I'm not sure if it was an accurate comparison. Entrees I chose the Local Steelhead Salmon and he had the Sirloin. A nice standard grilled salmon, with some vegetables. A little bit on the saltier side, but it wasn't very dry (a hard thing for grilled salmon sometimes). With only two choices on the menu, I went with the Cheesecake and he went with the Chocolate Truffle. I love me a good NY Style Cheesecake and it was creamy, cheesy, dense, and compiled with the compliments (berries and whipped cream) on the side, which I liked. Meant I could focus more on the Cheesecake versus digging my way through the berries. I found the Chocolate Truffle cake was a tad too chocolaty and rich for my liking, so it was a good thing he is a bigger lover of chocolate cake than I. What perplexed me the most that evening, was the wait. The restaurant did not seem overly busy when we first arrived, it was a weekday evening, and yet there were inexplicably long wait times between all three courses. It seemed like most tables were suffering from this fate of having long stretches were the previous course' dishes were cleared, and patrons were just sitting there with their water/drink glasses. There wasn't much of an explanation/apology from the waitstaff either (i.e. "sorry we are short-staffed in the kitchen this evening") which left me wondering if these wait times were normal, or abnormal. It certainly meant we weren't able to go for a nice evening stroll as we had originally hoped for. read more

Lovely location on the Quay over looking the water with spectacular views of the city. We were there on a food tour so our tasting menu was limited. Beautiful shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were fresh with just the right amount of crisp. Cocktail sauce was spiced just right. Tasty non alcoholic grapefruit and rosemary cocktail. Now, the food that was being served to other guests, that looked amazing. Oysters on the half shell, gorgeous fish and chips, full shrimp cocktail. My friend took me here to celebrate my birthday and we were given a table by the window. Gorgeous view of the harbor and downtown vancouver. It happened that Dine Out was on so I had food from that menu while my friend just had the salmon burger. He said that was really good. I tried the fries which was crispy and hot. I chose the mussels for my starter. The mussels were tiny which was disappointing but they went very well with the white wine cream sauce. Maybe it was not the season for big plump juicy mussels. I had the seared sablefish for my entree. That was done very nicely. I liked the asparagus and gnocchi too. The two layer chocolate cake was so-so which made a fairly sad end to the meal. Service was good here but I noticed the server did not tell us of the lunch special or menu. I overheard her telling other diners much later after we placed our order. If we knew of that earlier, we might have choose something else. So if you go during weekday lunch time, check with the server for the lunch menu. The place is very nice and the food is quintessential West Coast fare. Get the seafood. My friend recommends the eggs Benedict from the weekend brunch menu too. When the weather is good, sit on the patio for the view. This is a good place for a date. read more

We did not have a good experience last night and ruined our anniversary. The food was so tasty and good. But the service was the worst one. The first water glass has lipstick stain and the second glass had stain too! We booked a day in advance but when we arrived the girl at the front desk had no idea! we got the text " your table is ready !" but which table!!!! They did not prepare the table for us and looks like did not care at all. The supervisor/manager was unprofessional! finally, he gave us a table upstairs...they are so unorganized, had 2 empty tables upstairs, but keep insist on not giving them to the guest who is reserved ?!!! This is a beautiful spot beside the water especially on a clear day. It was rainy when I was at Pier 7, but it was still a good visit and relaxing meal. I ordered the blackened salmon on arugula and quinoa. Other people might not like the salmon medium, slightly more rare but it was perfect for me. Juicy, flavorful and complimented the salad well. A friend with a Groupon invited me to dinner tonight at Pier 7. This would be my second time here. Had an enjoyable night and the food was very good. To start, I had the Caesar Salad and it was dressed perfectly. Not wet so the capers and shaved Parmesan didn't melt and held. For the entree, I selected the Filet Mignon with buttery mashed potatoes and asparagus. The filet mignon was seasoned well. I asked for medium rare but came more medium. However, still delicious and tender and don't feel the need to return it to the kitchen. The asparagus was not crispy and a bit overly cooked. Finally finishing with the two layer chocolate cake and it was moist and not overly sweet. My friends had the sablefish and it was cooked well and still soft. We all enjoyed our meal. Service was excellent to start with but near the end it fell off the ladder. Not sure if our server got busy or dealing with an other situation. Coffee/tea were served promptly upon ordering but the desserts came much later. We had a table by the window so had an unobstructed waterfront view of downtown Vancouver. The price is on the higher side for seafood and filet mignon but if you can dine with a Groupon or select their dinner specials, it would be worth it for the savings and views. read more

Oceanfront dining? Or oceanfront lacking? This restaurant popped up on my screen quite often for now especially when I search restaurants in North Vancouver. And the name reminded me of Pier 39 when I was down in San Francisco, nice place back then. This place is located along the Lonsdale Quay along with other restaurants and of course the market itself, paid parking is available everywhere. The restaurant itself has 2 levels and a sectioned off patio, good to have choices. Inside is quite clean and spacious which makes dining comfortable. It wasn't busy when I visited during the late lunch hours, just me and another table of aunties inside and a couple of tables of families out in the patio. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Seafood chowder. It could easily mistaken for just a potato chowder, lack of seafood or ingredients and it was lukewarm?? 2. Mussels with white wine and butter. A couple of them were okay but most of them were the size of dried up raisins. Honestly, not just this place but all restaurants should really stop serving them shivered up mussels, they belong in an old picture frame not on the dinner table. Proper mussels are plump and juicy, and bathe in a decent amount of sauce. 3. Pier 7 Signature tower. When this arrived at the table, it confused me for a second cause I didn't know if I ordered a seafood tower or a grapes platter. It came with a poached chick lobster in halves, a small 1.5lb dungeoness crab more shells then meat, fresh oysters, chilled clams and mussels, candied salmon bites, etc and of course a lot of grapes. This seafood tower was as exciting as a deflated rubber ducky floating around the quay. With the abundance of grapes, now if someone were hand feeding them to me, it would've been a whole different story, would definitely score full points. Not really impressive for $150. Overall, the atmosphere was quite casual and comfortable. Perhaps a little too comfortable as during most of the time, it was hard to wave down our server or anyone in general. The food also took quite a long time to come out when it wasn't even busy; between soup and mussels 20min wait, between mussels and seafood tower 45mins wait. Nevertheless, given where this place is located, the interior layout and atmosphere, it does have a lot of promising potential if certain things are fine tuned and bit. Unfortunately a 1 star is fair for this experience when it was quite lacking. read more

My second time here and it was absolutely amazing. It was a birthday dinner. I loved sitting outside and the food is delicious. We got some of the Cajun tacos to start, last time we tried the chicken version and it was amazing. So this time we tried the fish version. Even more delicious! The only issue is me and my partner were a bit full after having them lol Then I got the Surf & Turf, they perfectly cooked my steak how I wanted it and the prawns and lobster were lovely. My partner got the Blackened salmon and prawns and he said it was really good. I got to bring some leftovers home because I couldn't finish it hahah. Both times we had really good servers. We wanna come back for my partners birthday and maybe get a seat on the upper deck since they seem to have nice views up there (there's nice views all over really). What a missed opportunity... The Shipyards in North Vancouver is ready and open for business. New residents are moving into their luxury apartments and businesses have nabbed up all the prime locations by the water. PIER 7 has the best spot by the water with a panoramic view of Vancouver. Although the view will bring people through the doors, the restaurant itself falls short. The upstairs is closed except for special events, meanwhile the only washrooms are all the way up there. The downstairs wasn't very busy, even with such an amazing view and a decent happy hour menu. The place comes off as a Cactus/Milestones wannabe and it isn't even as good (mind you, I do despise those casual dining chain restaurants as well). The servers don't have the same energy of the chains and they haven't been able to capture the general vibe. Maybe they haven't gotten into the full flow of things, maybe they count more on booking out their place for events, maybe they are just in over their heads... maybe it's maybelline... Went for after dinner drinks tonight and service was slow and drinks inconsistent in size and quality. Server provided 'special patio' menu and didn't include full drinks menu - which we discovered later existed. Live on North Shore and hadn't been in many years cause service and quality was poor years ago and see it hasn't changed. Such an amazing location and very disappointing it hasn't improved considering dinner and drinks options have only improved in last number of years in the area. This is the ideal spot to continue enjoying the views after wandering the shipyards. You can see the water from almost every table. Not our first time here. We have come with larger groups for nice dinners and also stopped in for lunch. It is consistently good food and classy service. Tried this spot out on a sunny day when everyone was chomping for a seat on a patio at Lonsdale. The waitlist moves fast and the hostess will actually phone you when your table is ready. This place probably has the best view and the Shipyards location is convenient for people taking skytrain, the seabus, biking or driving. The happy hour is great value with a good drink list and several appies to choose from. The mussels are highly recommended as well as the brussel sprouts. There's also yam and truffle fries if you're looking for carbs. Took a peek at the dining room and it's got huge windows, making the most of the oceanfront view of Vancouver across the water. read more

Don't know what was worse, the food or the service. We ordered a 3-Coarse meal and a salad and side of bread. The steak was so tough that my teenage son (bodybuiler) could barely cut and chew it without substantial effort. My salad was lackluster. I had to ask for black pepper an half way threw received a shaker (not fresh crscked). The bread was literally delivered after our dinner plates had been cleared. Seemed like there was plenty of staff, 3 standing at the host counter when we arrived. With so many failures in all aspects of the meal, it's either poor management and / or ownership. read more

But patios cannot be reserved. We reserved for 4 indoor just in case. 4pm rolled around and we arrived at the right time. They confirmed there are patio tables available btlut needed 5 mins to clean. Totally fine. We were sat down in the main level's patio. Once we were sat down we were informed we weren't allowed to move to another table due to COVID. The house wines were generous. The Summer Rayne ($7) was too sweet for me. The steak and frites ($18) was not too bad (steak was kind of small). The staff was attentive and checked on us frequently. Amazing place. Me and my husband went here for lunch and sat out on the covered patio. They had heaters and it was nice and cozy. The service was wonderful...our waitress was super kind, bubbly and helpful with our tourist-y questions. My husband got the cod and chips and it was delicious (I tasted it). I got the appetizer, the mussels and it was amazing. It was such a large portion and I couldn't finish it. Overall, great experience with an amazing view. Very refreshing. read more

But more than doubling the price of your happy hour mussels... and then me still coming to support you to have them anyway.. and they ran out at 8pm? I brought out of country family here because I had had good experiences previously...and there's a major rat issue on the patio(like we actually couldn't put our feet on the ground because they were everywhere) I'm not sure what happened but clearly something here changed in a big way. read more

Not sure why this place has 3 stars. Either it's under new management or yelp reviewers were crazy or did not experience the experiences we had. The clean and well kept heated outdoor patio gleaming over the crashing waves alone should earn this place a 3-star. We sat at the far edge of the "cliff", of course. Their practice on sustainability plus food quality, flavors and presentation should fairly make this place a 4-star. The staff experience was also wonderful which puts it to a 4.5 stars, at least for me! I am thoroughly happy with my order of soy maple sablefish fish and almond coffee. The rice was wonderfully flavored with the familiarities of soy. The fish was juicy and soft, and never over-glazed. Almond coffee, like White Russian, but much better thanks to the hints of orange and vanilla. Hubby wanted something light and thought his lobster salad did a great job. He ordered 2 glasses of wine, and they were kind enough to compliment his third unexpected glass! My thing is sustainability practices. Here they offer: no (assumed) straw, everything served on nice reusable vessels, cloth napkins, local produce and seafoods (where applicable, like sockeye salmon, mussels, etc.), and others. They offer blankets for colder climates when customers still choosing the outdoors. Their event space has a nice view. We had a wonderful time here with privacy to converse. A great last meal Vancouver farewell spot before heading back to Seattle! read more

We came here an hour after they opened for brunch. We got seated outside on the patio and had a lovely view. Thanks to the outdoor heaters, we were able to enjoy the relaxing scene of the waters. However, other than the patio and environment, that was really the only thing I enjoyed. The waitresses were incredibly slow (and it wasn't that busy) and the food took a very long time. As for price, brunch here wasn't too pricey--quite average. I got the smoked salmon omelette. Yummy but I feel like packaged jams that came with my dish kind of made my whole meal look very...average? For a place that looked and gave off a classy vibe, my plate looked very out of place (like something I might get from Denny's (I love Denny's though)). Perhaps I am being too fault-finding due to having to wait so long for food. My friend got an eggs benny and it was overcooked and not runny. The hash browns were very yummy tho! Overall, the patio was beautiful so i do think this is a nice place to meet with a friend and catch up but i do not see myself coming back personally. read more
