I was super happy today to see that Pikunico is still here at the Row. My go to combo is still the classic with the lemon aioli and it did not disappoint! There's a lot to be said about consistency and after all these years, I still love their food. As per usual, the place was clean and cheerfully lit, and the food came out fresh and tasty! I just happened to be short on time today, and my order came up really fast. Now that I'm working in the area more often again, I'll definitely be back!

Da Bomb! Best Japanese fried chicken! If you been to Japan and had the karaage from the small take out places or even the popular Japanese convenience stores this place delivers. So Japanese and so delicious! Perfectly fried to perfection - thighs, wings and tenders. You can make it spicy too with a number of their dipping sauces and fresh slaw and side salads. So Jappy! So Good! Even beer and sake to have your little fried chicken picnic with. Super nice owner and staff. I'd eat here weekly if i was nearby! Cool interior seating and plenty of outdoor seating at ROW DTLA to take your fried Chicken karaage picnic to nosh on!. note serving size leans toward the Japanese sized serving as the quality is high here (organic and fresh) and fried fresh. Perfect not oily or greasy. It's about quality here not quantity. Perfect to fill your belly without guilt feeling like you've eaten too much fried greasy food. Fresh Yuzu lemonades too to freshen up the palette! Prices are very reasonable too. Plenty of parking at ROW parking structure.

Not very good chicken, seems most people eat here be cause they couldn't get into the other restaurants due to wait times. The tenders are a bit overcooked, and service is quite slow due to them having 1 cook for the entire meal service.

Personally, this place was SO HARD to find that I had to check Google Maps and phone-in to ask where in the world is this place?! The worker answered the phone with the greeting, I asked where they are located, and strangely the worker saying "Hello?! Hello?!" and hung up. I would have appreciated if you said you don't understand! I later found out the person didn't speak English well and only understood how to take orders/ speak the menu... because he was the person who was also taking orders and I noticed he was ignoring all the phone calls while I was in line and could tell the limited English when I placed an order with him. This place is definitely understaffed because this man was handling the huge line, but expected to answer phone, and also give the food to customer. I came during lunch hour. The line was very long and the wait for the food long but I was pleased with my food. I ordered the chicken sandwich. The sandwich was nicely made and neatly packed with alfalfa sprouts and pickles. It was delicious. The downside was the experience and the price for this sandwich is pricey! I would only come back if I were in the area.

Pikunico had one of the most unique chicken sandwiches I have ever had! This was an adorable store, with lots of natural lighting and plenty of tables and booths. You order at the cash register and pay before finding a seat. There was a short line on a weekend afternoon, but it moved quickly. The food took awhile to arrive, but this was understandable, as there were only a couple employees. I tried the roasted beets salad, with yuzukosho marinated beets, broccoli, and tamari walnuts. It was a perfectly standard salad, nothing too remarkable. The golden chicken sandwich, on the other hand, was truly memorable and unique. Just the shape of the chicken sandwich was really interesting: it almost had the cylinder shape of a burrito. The sandwich features a perfectly fried chicken on a turmeric bun, with pickled daikon, watercress, alfalfa sprouts, lemon aioli, jalapeño and miso jam. I really enjoyed the freshness of the daikon and sprouts with the juiciness of the chicken. The sandwich was gone way too quickly - every bite was filled with flavor! I can't wait to visit again and try the fried chicken on its own.

My gf and I unexpectedly visited Pikunico for the first time and were impressed! We weren't familiar with the menu because we planned to go to Pane Bianco, but they close earlier than we expected. We ordered the Golden Chicken Sandwich. It was packed with ingredients and bursting with flavor. We both enjoyed the strong pickled/vinegar flavor and agreed that neither of us have had a sandwich that tasted like quite like this. It has a lot going on, but comes together to make it a unique and tasty sandwich. The chicken karaage inside of it was well seasoned, but not particularly special. If not for the $1 up charge, I would've ordered the sandwich spicy. Overall I liked Pikunico, but it does feel a bit expensive.

Such a yummy spot located in the beautiful Row DTLA! I was craving a solid chicken sandwich and Pikunico exceeded my expectations with their spicy golden sandwich! Great amount of heat and the fresh sprouts and pickled veggies inside gave this sandwich so much flavor. The fries were also scrumptious. Excellent customer service. I would most definitely come back to try more off of the menu. Highly recommend!

In downtown LA there is this very hidden, isolated, secluded restaurant that you probably couldn't find with a NASA Interplanetary Navigation System. Yes, that's how "Phantom" Pikunico Japanese restaurant is. Tucked away on South Alameda Street this small cafe / bistro is making unbelievable -Sandwiches, Salads and Rice Bowls. Their entire menu is a "Hit Parade" of unusual yet delicious Asian fare. I had their: * Golden Chicken Sandwich Fried chicken on golden turmeric bun, pickled daikon, watercress, alfalfa sprouts, lemon aioli, jalapeño and miso jam...... that was the most remarkably eccentric sandwich I've ever tasted; and I mean that in the very best of ways! This sandwich had more things going on ingredient wise, so I would definitely call it a - Flavor Bomb". Pikunico was so clean and sterile I was duly impressed. These nice young people working here added to your experience in this small but yet very fantastic hidden gem.

Hidden gem located at the Row DTLA I stopped by here after shopping for some stuff. There is a lot of seating, and the staff was kind and friendly. The decor is so cute, lots of sunlight from the big windows. We got the golden chicken sandwich but made it spicy. The sandwich came out quick, it was nice and hot. The chicken was so crispy and inside was so juicy, it was perfect! it was actually spicy too! Nothing crazy spicy tho. I would def recommend coming here if you are in the area!

Stopped in for a quick dinner and had an overall solid experience. The chicken sandwich was served on fresh bread, with a nicely crispy piece of chicken and well-balanced layers of flavor from the sprouts and pickled vegetables. While the flavors worked well together, I did wish the chicken was more consistent from bite to bite. We also tried the spicy wings, which were enjoyable and had a pleasant crunch, though I wouldn't have minded them cooked just a bit longer. The heat level was there, but they could have benefited from a bit more depth of flavor. Overall, this is a decent spot offering reasonably priced food and a satisfying meal.

Super flavorful and crispy chicken sandwich! I typically always choose the spicy option if it's available, and while I enjoyed the spicy version of the Golden Chicken Sandwich I think it would have been plenty flavorful getting it the regular way. The pickled radish and micro greens help cut the fried chicken. Friendly, quick staff and the tables are small but enough for a quick bite like this. Would come again :)

The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and I really liked the addition of alfalfa sprouts and these sour pickles. It gave the sandwich a nice twist!! The location is also very convenient since there's a big parking structure behind it with 2 hours free parking, and the spot itself was clean and quiet. I think it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

My fries were good, and my partner's macaroni salad and spicy rice were both flavorful. We especially loved the biscuit. I also couldn't help noticing that although the dining room feels like something of a relic, it is very well maintained. There were no dirty tables and no trash on the floor. I was genuinely shocked when the cashier came out to ask how everything was and whether we needed anything else. Most fast-food chains seem determined to eliminate as much human interaction as possible. Pioneer Chicken was a refreshing reminder that fast food can still be friendly, clean and satisfying. I highly recommend this chain location and can vouch for the food and service!!! Is the hype warranted? an astounding YES! I looked into the secret menu and got to try the Mario Fries, Lou's Chicken Sandwich, Quarter Chicken Breast with all their sauces, and Banana Pudding! The staff was lovely and I met Matt, the manager. I was greeted with an excited and hyped staff. They were kind and welcoming. Food came pippin' hot and the first bite of the quarter chicken breast was everything- juicy, smoky, spicy, and filled with seasoning! I heard comparisons between this chain and others and finally understood the difference: the chicken is at the forefront along with different layers of flavor that are in the sandwich! Think of Dave's Hot Chicken but meatier , juicier, and much flavorful. Everything is elevated with subtle sophistication- the slaw, all the sauces, and breading. It seemed all curated individually for your meal. For comparison, it is like getting a pastry at your local bakery vs. at a patisserie in Paris, FR. It's the same dessert but one is much better, especially if you pay attention to the subtleties. If you want to taste Howling Ray's in one dish, this would be it! The other dishes were also delightful, the Lou's sandwich had waffles as the buns with powdered sugar and syrup on top; imagine smoky, savory, with fulfilling sweetness. The banana pudding was also wonderful; not to sweet but subtle flavors with high quality ingredients. The Mario's fries are the ultimate chicken loaded fries and would have you full and fulfilled. Everything was of great. You are paying for quality and you will not regret it, especially if you like flavors and spicy. There is a reason that there is a line even before this restaurant opens. Not only would I recommend this place, I recommend bringing a crew so you can share the experience together. I am now a fan and I will be back and will bringing others with me.

This is more upscale, almost fine dining Filipino food. Something I have never experienced before. We were very intrigued and were excited to try the food. If you're looking for a carinderia or turo-turo taste, this ain't it so don't come expecting that. Menu is not extensive, which is what we like. I have a hard time at Cheesecake Factory and that just stresses me out. I feel like their food menu is compact, thoughtfully created, and appealing. We had a very difficult time not ordering the entire menu. So we ended up eating almost half of it. Drinks menu was also very innovative and the drinks were STRONG. I also appreciate that they have non-alcoholic versions of some of their drinks. I wasn't indulging that day so Hubby and I were able to sample one of each type. Calamansi Mojito ($20) for him and Ube Horchata ($14) for me. As for what we ate: Manila Mais ($18) - 2.5/5 stars - It was, okay. Filipino-ized version of Mexican elote, corn-ribs style. Though it had Filipino elements like the bagoong butter, it didn't really taste like anything different. And to be honest, the bagoong butter didn't bring anything to the table the way it was presented to the side of the corn. It was too hard and just sat on the elote as you ate it. Kare Kare Tamales ($26) - 5/5 stars - UH-AMAZING!!! I could have eaten two, regular-sized tamales versions of this as an entree instead of two smaller appetizer size. The braised oxtail inside the tamales was soft and tender but the peanut butter veloute was *chef's kiss*. You definitely tasted kare kare but in an innovative way. I just wish they had some steamed rice or bread so I could soak up the sauce. I almost cried when they took the plate away because I didn't want to waste the sauce! Bicol Express Mezzelune ($38) - 4/5 stars - I was eyeing this originally but opted not to until the chef came out and talked us into it. And I'm so glad he did! This was delicious! Ironically enough, I just cooked traditional Bicol Express the week before and this definitely hit those notes without being a carbon copy of it. Again, where was the rice?! Only thing I can dock is that I felt like the pasta was a tad too thick and was chewy to my taste. Otherwise, I would definitely order this again. Was the sleeper hit of the dinner. Crab Fat Fried Rice ($38) - 5/5 stars - Crab? Crab fat? In rice?? Of course, sign me up! So delicious and a very generous portion. I wanted to hoard it to myself but I guess I had to share with Hubby. Would order this again. Ribeye Salpicao ($96) - 3/5 stars - Not my favorite of the bunch and this surprised me because I love rib eye. It came out medium instead of the medium rare we ordered and the taste was just not to my preference. It's possible that it was just overshadowed by the other excellent dishes we had. Likely will not order again though the portion was generous. Two minor things I wish they had but not enough to dock stars: Rice and spoons. Come on, now! This is a Filipino place! These two are musts? How else could I mop up all the delicious sauces they put on the food?! Service was impeccable! From front of the house host, bartender, and the chefs, the experience was very welcoming and polished. We sat at the bar and was able to chat with the chefs when they came to introduce themselves to us and they were the nicest people. You felt like you came to a friend's house and not an impersonal stranger's. Will definitely be back to try the other half of the menu we missed and we'll be bringing friends!

We had to wait for some people to get their orders and leave so that the three of us could all sit together. Otherwise, the cashier was very pleasant, and the food was top notch. We got an original chicken sandwich, a spicy chicken sandwich, a breakfast sandwich, an order of tots, a lemonade, and a cookie butter latte. Everything was delicious. The chicken was big and crispy. The sandwiches were filling. The order of tots was small but honestly that's all we needed with the size of the sandwiches. The lemonade was perfect and the latte exceeded expectations. The ranch on the sandwich was good. I got some ghost pepper mayo on the side to try it out. My fiancée got her pickles on the side but ended up liking them. The spicy sandwich had kick but was not unbearable. Overall, we'll definitely be back and we're glad we found a late night spot in Downtown with reasonable and tasty food.

I had a burrito with ranch on the side and an iced coconut milk mocha delivered for brunch this morning. The burrito is just the right size, not too big and not too small. I noticed part of the tortilla was practically blackened today. All the same, this was a very filling, satisfying meal. And I'm really enjoying my iced mocha!
