There is no question that these were the best scallops I have ever had. We were so shocked at how well we were serviced at such a phenomenal price for a so perfectly balanced a meal. When the scallops arrived it was like a heavenly presentation of them just on their fries with some great traditional cole slaw on the side. Ordered take out and decided to try one of the new menu items. Everything was great but the tuna nachos were honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. HUGE portion, tons of melt in your mouth tuna. I'll be dreaming about them. 10/10 recommend. read more

I initially wanted a table for 14 but she said that would be a 2-hour wait in a very unfriendly manner. I asked if it would make a difference if we could break the group down into smaller groups. She became even less friendly with my 6 year old asking me shortly after "why she was so rude". In the end I asked her to suggest the options, which seem to irritate her terribly. This place has a great atmosphere and strong drinks, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I have no complaints about that; in fact, I only have praise. But the food was ... meh. I got the lobster grilled cheese. It was bland and the bread was soggy. Even the fries were bland. I felt bad for ruining perfectly good lobster by placing it on a a piece of bread with cheese. No one in my party really had anything positive to say about the food, just that it was "okay." We're from out of state so I'm not really sure if this is normal New England food or the exception. Even so, the chicken finger appetizer seemed to have just been thrown in the fryer after it was removed from the freezer. If you're looking for a stellar meal, this isn't the place. We wanted lunch on a very hot afternoon and were given choices by Dan who ended up being our server. We chose a high top in the bar area so we could enjoy the ac and stay away from the crowded dining room. My wife and son shared pork nachos and allowed me a taste. As good as I've had with all the right ingredients. Definitely would have them again. My order of the fried seafood platter was amazing. Shrimp, full bellied clams, scallops and scrod with French fries and cole slaw. The batter was light not at all greasy. The clams were extremely clean and excellent as was the rest. Was fishing at the Canal with a friend of mine and she and I decided to get dinner. Rather than make the haul to Captain Parkers as was the plan we opted to try here and we are glad we did. The restaurant was clean, food was awesome, and service was fast and friendly. We split and order of steamed muscles (delicious) and the fried seafood platter, which was surprisingly light and again delicious. Will be returning next time we come out. read more

Went to Pilot house since last time we went was a few years ago. We have a vacation home on the cape about 40 minutes from pilot House and wanted to go someplace different from our usual restaurants. The only good part of the night was we were seated quickly and it went downhill from there. Service was terrible and our waiter was nice enough but very slow and seemed always in a rush. Took our drink order and after cocktails just brushed by to take our food order and be done with us never asking if we wanted appetizers or anything else to drink. The food was maybe a1 star at best without going on a meal by meal detail.With all of the great restaurants on the Cape Pilot house will not be on our restaurant list and not worth the drive to get there. read more

I had the best seat at the table as I had a great view of the marina, Cape Cod Canal, the Sagamore bridge and a beautiful spectacular God given sunset. Eliza was our server. Very decent but had to nudged on a couple minor details like bread plates. No big deal. She quickly took our drink order. Cocktails, wine and Red Stripe beer. A steal at $4 per 16oz can. Most of us ordered the native swordfish. Now, I had reservations about trying it as this treat just isn't as good at home. Endorsements from other guests and the word "native" sold me. Others had steak and salads. The swordfish was perfectly grilled, topped with anchovy butter and was flaky and delicious. It was accompanied by a medley of green beans, squash and carrots. All freshly prepared. All meals were great and we enjoyed each other's company as we celebrated a friends birthday. Life is good. The Pilot House is good. Instead it's plated in open pasta dish with a separate puff pastry, and loses heat incredibly quickly. Sherry sauce was bland. Shrimp overdone- way too chewy. Flavors do not come together, more bland than it should be. Overpriced. My wife informed wait staff of same, and informed them of a 'marginal' critique on their efforts. read more

My nephew,my sister and I ate at the pilot house last night. The ambience inside and outside was very nice and fun. Our waitress was friendly, very efficient, and accommodating. My nephew had the sushi tacos which were excellent.My sister and I split a fisherman's platter and a poke bowl. We were able to switch out the salmon for tuna which was nice. We also had a calamari appetizer. The fried food was fantastic. nd. Not greasy but light and flavorable and the portion was good. We were so pleased with these items that poke bowl was a real disappointment. The tuna was too salty and the vegetables were almost non-existent, and the sticky rice was mush. I would recommend this restaurant and go there again but I felt compelled to complain about the poke bowl because I was surprised that it was as poorly put together as it was. I know we have COVID going on and business are suffering. but how far will we go to keep business? My mother and I pulled up the street to head to the Pilot House just a few hours ago and here is what ensued: we pulled up the street and there was a fire truck, rescue truck and two police cars so we paused in the middle of the street not sure if we were able to proceed and a large white truck pulled up behind us and Started blaring it's Horn. We immediately pulled into the parking lot to the right to the pilot house. My mother was really shaken up and upset about the aggressive behavior behind us. I started to walk into the building to check to make sure they were taking customers... she had to stay in the car because she just had hip surgery can't walk well. As I was walking to the building I noticed the two gentlemen that were in the huge white truck that Tried to intimidate us. I asked them why they had blared their horn. And they said "because you were just sitting there not moving" and I explained that there was a fire truck, a rescue truck and police cars ahead and we were trying to figure where we were allowed to proceed to. We were walking up the stairs together and I explained that they lacked Manners And hoped for an apology. He told me: "put your f*cking mask on you bitch." And at this point, we are still outside. and I am so sick of this type of intimidation. So I explained that calling me a bitch was stupid and if they were trying to scare me, I wouldn't be scared by the likes of them. The hostess allowed them to proceed because she didn't really know what happened prior to entering the building. When she saw them being aggressive to me, she asked me what happened and I explained that they had harassed us while pulling into the parking lot and also again while walking into the building. they heard me explaining this to her and yelled across the restaurant as they were walking out to their tables outdoors "f*ck you you f*cking bitch" While giving me the middle finger. The restaurant manager offered to seat us indoors and I declined stating that I wasn't feeling safe to be in the same vicinity as a gentleman. So we ended up leaving. I really wish the manager had asked the gentlemen to leave the vicinity instead of us. I wish more business owners would make the right decisions when patrons don't feel safe like this. We never got to try the food there but won't go back because we did not feel protected. Nor will any of our friends. We are locals so word of mouth is important. read more

Busy night last evening at the Pilot House. Bar was energized by the live music and very busy. The restaurant was very busy since this is the last holiday weekend of the summer on Cape Cod. Lots of folks looking for some good food and drink to celebrate the end of summer. The kitchen did not disappoint. The three of us had lobster, scallops and steak. Everything was fresh and tasty. The portions were a bit small for my liking and not what we typically see. Our reservation was not fulfilled in a timely fashion and the hostess claimed that folks lingered at their tables longer than expected. The service was mediocre and our waitress was less than attentive but assumed that was partially due to the crowd. As always, wish I could give half stars because I can't give a 4 but would certainly give it 3.5. Since Covid, service seems to be a problem everywhere. Well NOT HERE ! Everyone we dealt with was exceptional and went above and beyond for us. We wanted a seat with a view of the water so we had to wait (our choice). The staff made a point to sweep past the ocean view tables regularly and keep us updated on the progress. Once seated our waitress was friendly, personable and attentive throughout our meal. We started with the Brussel sprouts appetizer which was a 10 out of ten! I seriously will come back just to get that appetizer again. Unfortunately it kinda went downhill from there. The steak tips were fine but had no real flavor it was almost like they were boiled, very, very bland. A couple of the tips were very undercooked but the staff once again were excellent and took care of it immediately. I had a Rueben and it was very good, especially with the sweat potato fries. My wife got scallops with quinoa. The scollops were a little chewy and she didn't like the seasoning of the quinoa at all. Not that it was bad, just not to her taste. We didn't complain but our server asked why she didn't finish. My wife politely told her she didn't really like the flavor. The manager came over and apologized and then comped her meal. Unnecessary but VERY much appreciated. They also surprised my daughter with desert on the house for her birthday. Overall the staff and service get 5 stars! Where the pilot house failed was the entrees. I'll take some of the blame for ordering steak tips at a seafood restaurant but they need to up their game. The Pilot House was my only negative experience dining on Cape Cod. Very unfortunate because I love the location and the decor in the restaraunt. It captures that classic Cape Cod Mariner vibe. I always walked by this place back when it had a different name, and I swore if I were lucky enough to meet a nice girl I'd make a date night out of this place. I did just that. We were seated at a comfy table with views of Sandwich Marina and the stately Sagamore Bridge out the window. The menu had promising options! I went with their Seafood Pot Pie while the lady opted for their Fried Seafood Platter...and keep in mind each entree was $27. Entrees came fast, like, suspiciously fast. We thought everything tasted right; however, I was very put off by the texture of the scallops, especially the fried ones in the lady's Fried Platter. They're not supposed to have a consistency that reminds you of marshmallows. Secondly, our server made very brief hurried visits to our table, was a little impatient with the lady, and got crumbs all over the lady's favorite dress in the process of boxing her leftovers for her. A few hours later we were both sick...and over $60 poorer. I really hate writing negative reviews, but if you're going to have a fine dining establishment right on the water in a town like Sandwich, MA...where you have to compete with the likes of Dan'l Webster Inn & Spa's elegant Conservatory and ruggedly charming Tavern, Seafood Sam's, Fisherman's View, etc. there is no excuse for letting guests have experiences like this. It was a Friday night, the mission was oysters. We made reservations on line and were seated EARLY! The band was pretty good, not too loud. You can hear and speak freely. Family friendly. The roasted chicken was to die for, if the kids don't like seafood. Two distinct types of oysters that were delicious. Salmon was prepared perfectly. Lobster mac n cheese was hardy. I keep trying and despite me almost willing this place to get better each time I give them another shot for dinner, it's ALWAYS mediocre at best which is why I'm finally sitting to write this. I've tried, folks. I've really tried. Food review here is based much on my last visit but would be the same had I done so on other visits too. Setting = views and building "ambience" are great. That has nothing to do with the actual restaurant though. Outside problems = ricketdy old wooden Adirondacks on the nice lawn are so uncomfortable to sit in you simply can't do it long (c'mon owners this isnt a tough fix). That and the pile of 25 year olds that take over with their foul language, smoking and rowdy, over served behavior completely ruin whatever views and ambience your trying to take in. Lawn used to be nice and the live music is still pretty good but it's become a no go for me and my family now because of how it's run (unless your 25 and like that kind of thing). Inside problems = very small waiting area so you are moved around, bumped into and snarled at while you wait for a table. Most of the hostesses appear to be 15 or younger and lack customer service skills, so buckle up for checking in frequently and getting vapid responses. Their phones take priority, not you. Also, the restaurant is very loud, wait service is painfully slow and most recently my family and I were sat next to the kitchen entrance where we spent half of our time listening to a manager complain and two workers discuss relationship drama (sadly we could clearly hear the conversation). Good times while I ate an over priced salad, bland clam chowder and so-so burger. My wife had "Nori Tacos" however and said they were pretty good. Ok, score one plus for probably our last visit for FOOD. Service = lord help me. Last visit (prompting this review) Waitress seemed completely uninterested in being there and was short with us throughout the experience. I won't use her name here because I do not believe in adding that personal touch to negativity. Maybe it was a bad night, but lets say that it really wasnt her best performance and she needed a night off. The bar= heres where I can be positive. I've been here for drinks only many times over the past four years. Lesson learned. Thats what they're good at. Inside bar only though folks. The wine list is painfully boring and they'll never win any awards for beer or seltzer selection either, but the guys make a good mixed drink and the bar staff is friendly, enjoyable and always welcoming. Seems like a great team which creates a relaxed and easy bar atmosphere. Not simple to acheive when you consider how many bars seem harried and frazzled in a Cape Cod summer. Tim! Let's just say I stopped in, tried to have a drink in a festive atmosphere (back to the super bar staff) and was pushed, spilled on and the crowd was again, 25 and drunk but this time they infiltrated the inside bar. When my wife went to the bathroom to witness a young woman throwing up with a stall door open- we decided this was not longer our scene. We're out of chances. Fishermen's View will now be our spot and might I suggest management from Pilot goes to see how a professional restaurant is run? Food quality was ok. I love the calamari appetizer but my main meal fried oysters weren't anything special. The breading was plain and they weren't fried long enough. The French fries that came with it were delicious. My husbands sword fish was ok too. This isn't a wow menu. Just ok. My favorite thing was my mudslide.
