Do Not Book Large Groups at the Pilot House -- Especially After a Funeral or Interment. We made a reservation at the Pilot House for a group of 21 following the interment of both of our parents at the National Cemetery--an emotional and solemn occasion. This gathering was meant to bring together family members, many of whom had traveled long distances, to find comfort in one another after a goodbye. We arrived on time, respectful and mindful of the space. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were met not with empathy or professionalism, but with coldness and condescension. While leading us to our tables, a staff member snapped, "You do not OWN this room" and "This is NOT a private party"--completely unprovoked, as no one in our group had acted otherwise. It was a jarring and inappropriate tone to take with anyone, let alone customers coming from what was clearly a memorial service. At 11:30 a.m. on a quiet Wednesday, in an otherwise empty dining room, we were sharply ordered to "sit down" and "take your seats!"--for merely exchanging quiet greetings with loved ones we hadn't seen in years. Later, during a soft, heartfelt toast in memory of our parents, we were scolded again: "You need to be quiet. There are other parties in the room." The only other table present--a party of three--expressly told us they were not disturbed and understood the moment. My husband and I hosted this luncheon with the intention of creating a comforting space for our family after a burial. Instead, the Pilot House staff managed to turn it into a source of embarrassment and frustration. More than half of us have experience in the hospitality industry, and none of us had ever witnessed such a lack of basic courtesy. We couldn't leave fast enough, canceling our plans to enjoy a post-lunch cocktail on the lawn. We regret choosing this venue and urge others--especially those planning gatherings following an interment or other solemn occasion--to look elsewhere. read more

Extremely disappointed with our "Easter Dinner" at Pilot House. We arrived mid afternoon. It's obvious the Kitchen is not ready to open. The fried Calamari was mushy. The scallops were the same. "No seasoning" on any of our food, not hint of garlic, butter, lemon. We were starving and ate it. My son ordered a $20.00 Waghu Burger burt like a hockey puck. He ordered it Medium. Rather than cause a scene on a what was a beautiful Easter day, we ate it and paid tipping our Server 20%. Sending our dinners back would of caused a scene. She was not responsible for the kitchen. We informed the Manager as we departed. We were good customers late last year until they closed. My family in Restaurant Business for 35 years. They opened April 10. You have Ambiance and service, now you need a kitchen to put out consistently good seafood. You have an incredible location, you have time to turn things around. read more

Always a must when we come home to visit. Our favorite summer spot for drinks in the sunshine and getting together with friends. Pilot House has gotten better and better over the years, from food to atmosphere to service. We only come on good weather days to enjoy their amazing outdoor bar and seating. We typically just sit in the adirondacks and have a few cocktails and apps, but occasionally we do come for full meals with the family. Their mudslides are a must, but all their drinks are top-notch. For food, we always get the chowder and quahog. I personally think both are top contenders for best on Cape. Their lobster rolls are decent as well as most other things on the menu. 5 of us arrived around 5pm on a Saturday night. It was a beautiful day so there was no outdoor seating available so we sat inside, plenty of tables. The Pilot House does not take reservations. SERVICE: Cindy made our meal quite enjoyable. She is friendly, attentive and even when we mistakenly ordered something, she fixed us up without even a fuss. FOOD: Excellent. The steamers were fresh and sand free. The brussel sprouts had crispy leaves and tons of flavor. The salmon is a huge portion, cooked perfectly with yummy side items. BAR: Cosmo was made perfectly, $10.50 in the smaller of their martini glasses. Not a tiny one, but midsize. The full size martini is $14 and served in a large martini glass. KJ chard is $11, generous pour. ATMOSPHERE: Casual, comfortable with a view of the water. read more

This place is okay. We sat outside under the tent. Got there early so we could get a seat. Took a good 10 min for anyone to come to us. Food was average, service was slow, drinks were good. I got the fried platter- it was mostly clams which are my least fave so that was very disappointing. It only had 2 shrimps and I really wanted more than that. The scallops were also slightly undercooked. Don't recommend this dish unless you love clams. read more

I don't often post anything online but my service at the pilot house this evening rates very positive review. My family and I made reservations for this evening at the pilot house. We were kind of hoping that while the reservation was only for a table inside that we might get a chance to sit outside. However it was raining so we were all glad to have our table in their excellent dining room. The restaurant was packed and it was obvious that the staff was working hard. We had an excellent meal with the staff taking a lot of time to "updew" the cake we had brought for my mother's birthdays. The food was excellent and we had a wonderful time. Our server was Anne B is a wonderful human being. I can only say that she was a wonderful, attentive, and kind individual who made a special night for my family incredibly familiar and nice. Anne was simply the best and I hope the pilot house knows how lucky they are to have her. Anyway five stars and my family had a lovely time. We will be back ! read more

Every time I visit the Cape I have to stop by the Pilot House! Our waitress Rachael was amazing as always, very attentive & kind. We started with steamers which was the perfect amount for an appetizer. Just enough to satisfy that craving without leaving you too full to enjoy your meal. For entrees we ordered the Blackened Scallops with Risotto along with the Stuffed Cod & it was to dieee for!! The Scallops and Risotto were my favorite. The service was solid, but the food was inconsistent. The lobster rangoon appetizer was delicious. Disappointed to find that the regular fish and chips ($29) was the same size portion as the kids fish and chips ($16)--the only difference was the side of coleslaw, which was terrible and certainly not worth the $13 (!!!) price difference. The lobster risotto from the special had nice flavor, but barely a trace of lobster meat and was crunchy, and the Brussels sprouts boiled and bland, but the bass was cooked well in a delicious sauce. I really love the vibe at the Pilot House. And I also like the food. So much better than their competition restaurant across the way. Chillin' in the Adirondack chairs while listening to live music. What's not to like? I highly recommend the sweet potato fries, the clams casino, the lobster grilled cheese, and seafood pot pie. Service was great and the well trained staff appear to be exceptionally hard workers. It's always super busy, but the wait is never too long. read more

Pilot house is one of new staple stops on the cape and I've only been coming here 31 FLIPPIN years and yet just decided to venture here. I've been a total of 3 times this summer and even w the weird world, they have plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. The view from the cabal is fantastic. The Pilot House serves up a large helping of fried or broiled seafood at a reasonable price. Just don't expect fine dining and you should have a fine meal. It's not going to be the best seafood you ever had, but you probably realized that when you walked in. I tried to power through the probably 1# of coleslaw but failed spectacularly at that feat of strength. However, just like the 3-star rating states: this place is "A-Okay" and that is exactly how I feel about our experience. It didn't do any one thing spectacularly well, but nothing was poorly executed or inedible (which is not always the case with these types of seafood places). Everything was in line with the price and quality I would expect at a fried or plattered seafood place. The views (we were there at sunset) are pretty fantastic as well. If you want a picturesque view while you eat then you should be pleased with your options as long as you don't go peak season + peak hours. Our food was up pretty quickly and we were there at a time where it was self-service so we didn't have to interact with any hostesses or waitstaff. The Pilot House definitely satisfied a need we had upon arriving in the area for our summer vacation - a quick, enjoyable seafood dinner that we were able to waltz into in casual clothes and be on our way less than 45 minutes later. As long as you temper expectations and enjoy it for what it is I think you'll have yourself just a dandy time :) read more

I chose this place because of the innovative menu. It's not just another clone of the standard New England seafood fare. It has those of course but some unique items too. Like the Nori Sushi Tacos which I got. The shell is a battered, deep-fried nori sheet, and the fillings are what you'd find in a Japanese tuna maki roll: tuna, sushi rice, mango, avocado, sesame, tobiko, etc. It worked. They really did find a way to simulate a crunchy taco shell with the fried nori. The serving is 2 tacos, and the tuna portion was appropriately sized for the shells and I thought priced reasonably at $19. I have a few complaints though: there was too much rice inside. Maybe a little is ok but it really added nothing to the overall dish. Maybe add some greens instead: something assertive like arugula or watercress? And also, the plate just just the tacos. Some sides would be appreciated and they don't have to be expensive ingredients: to keep with the Japanese theme maybe a small seaweed salad and some spicy rice chips? In the bar area some interesting cocktails. I'm always up for anything with mezcal so I had a "Some Like It Hot": spicy concoction that included passionfruit and tamarind, chili syrup, and a giant stick of jicama. Silly but gave me something to snack on while waiting for the entree. Wine list looked pretty standard. I'm not a beer drinker but the list looked pretty outdated to me: very heavy on the standard big American brands and just a couple in the "craft" category. I also ordered a stuffed quahog to go, for later. Admittedly I don't have lot to compare it with but it seemed good enough. A spicy bread-based stuffing with linguica and discernible bits of chopped clam - though there should have been more. Well-browned under the broiler. But $8 for a single clam? In retrospect that seems outrageous and now I'm feeling annoyed with myself for getting it, and annoyed with them for charging it. Service was pretty slow all around. From getting the menu, to ordering, getting my drink, and finally the entree, everything took longer that it should. So that when the waitperson came with the check I had my credit card ready for her so as to avoid and more delays. But slowness is a fault of the management; not the waitpeople. 2 years ago I'd have awarded 3 stars for this many flaws even though minor. Adjusting for the overall decline in restaurant experience everywhere, I'm generously giving this 4 stars and would probably go back. read more

Made the wrong decision by trying something new across the harbor rather than sticking with what you know. The food was fresh but not well prepared. Lobster sandwich should have raised a flag. Lobster server on 1.5" Texas toast style bread. Even with "large" almost $50 market price sandwich, it was overpriced and over powered by the bread. Cold fries accompanied this mess. The clam plate had maybe a dozen clams, I'm being generous here. I can't imagine what the clam roll looks like. They were not properly breaded as the breading just fell off at you put your fork into them. Anyways a complete disappointment. $50pp bill with tip, no drinks or dessert, deserves better even on the cape during tourist season. Friendly service was the only shining star. read more

The new husband and I are back to Yelp! We started off our honeymoon at The Pilot house, which had great food and service. We sat outside since it was a beautiful evening, but had to deal with some loud kids, which was a negative. But we started off with beer and a passion fruit mojito, both of which we recommend. We had mussels as an app which I forgot to take a pic of, which were good. Then we had the fisherman's platter and grilled swordfish, respectfully. My swordfish was to die for-- so buttery and creamy. The husband loved his platter, and I have to say, I am not a scallop fan but I liked their fried scallops! Nice light batter, not too heavy. We would recommend-- lots of outdoor seating, but the atmosphere didn't exactly match the higher dinner prices so just something to be aware of. read more

Another year, another 5-star review. Took my mom here for a belated Mother's Day lunch and we had a great time. Server (I forgot her name - so sorry!) and the red headed hostess were great! We hardly had to wait for a spot on their beautiful patio. I had a watermelon jalepeno marg (delicious, if small) and mom a Pinot Grigio. Calamari was on point (seriously, order it) and our entrees were delicious. Server did not miss a beat. Prices were fair, we weren't rushed, and as always, I will return.
