Their hot sauce is really good and if you like a mild spice, this is the sauce. I really enjoyed this location because it had a lot of tables for both indoor and outdoor. They DO allow pets in their patio seating as well. There was a lack of silverware though, I didn't have a knife while I was eating, and they only provided plastic ones which didn't do the job trying to cut up the chicken. Since PSB always has lines, I'm glad that I went to this location to stand in one because the line was short/long enough for me to stand inside the building while it was ugly outside. Last time I came to Portland the line was just too long to bear and I opted to skip the experience but I kept it in my bookmarks just in case.... I'm sure glad I did! My family of 4 opted to share 3 plates and all of them were pretty good in their own way. Of course, we had to try the Reggie which features the famed biscuit hugging bacon, cheese, fried chicken, and your choice of gravy (sausage or mushroom, we opted for mushroom). This was seriously as amazing as everyone says! The biscuit is fluffy and buttery, not too dense and pairs perfectly with the freshly fried chicken which was moist and succulent. The bacon added a nice little crunch and the gravy gave it a good savory flavor. Up next we opted for pulled pork hashbrowns and a side of fried green tomatoes. I thought the tomatoes were a bit heavy of batter but still decent. As for the hashbrowns, it was good but not as good as smoked brisket probably would have been...but I can't say for sure as pine state biscuit was out of brisket on this day. Sadface. To tie our meal together, we tried the cornmeal blueberry pancakes for a sweet dish. I thought it was really good especially with a little butter and a squeeze of lemon. They aren't quite as fluffy as I like my typical pancakes but blueberries and corn really do pair quite well together. All in all, 3 entrees and 4 drinks came to just under $58. This was somewhat of a letdown after driving an hour especially for takeout from Pine State. We ordered the Reggie and the Mcisely, and the chicken just wasn't very freshly fried, even though we arrived right at pickup time in the middle of lunch rush hour. In fact, the chicken was quite difficult to slice through with a plastic knife and fork provided. All the toppings and combinations were very creative and unique, the execution was just subpar for takeout, and you really have to dine-in to get the real full experience. My friends have been raving about this place ever since I told them that I was going to Portland and I'm glad to say it lived up to the hype. My friend and I shared an order since we just wanted an afternoon snack to fill our stomachs before dinner. We shared the Reggie Deluxe: fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with sausage gravy, a fried egg, and all sandwiched in between a fresh, flakey and buttery biscuit. I went for the Reggie deluxe which included an egg with the delicious chicken bacon cheese biscuit and yummy gravy smothered. I also got the cinnamon roll which was out of this world good with yummy sauce on top of it. They even offer hot sauces for you to try which put it over-the-top for me. Interesting choices of coffee both were good. And I must've picked the right time on a Thursday morning at 7:30 AM with no line and the food comes out within minutes Lots of places to sit. The bed-and-breakfast we were staying did not provide us with a sufficient breakfast, and we needed something more substantial since we were going to be exploring the areas outside Portland. The Pine State Biscuits was located less than 2 miles from our B&B. Located on the corner of SE division and SE. 11th Ave., is this popular breakfast place. We arrived a little after 9:00 AM on a Thursday, and we were quite lucky that we not only found street parking, but the place was not very full. The place isn't very large, and there's indoor / covered outdoor seating. Upon walking in, there's a sign that said to place your order first and then sit down. There were so many choices. We finally narrowed it down and here's what we got : The Reggie, a fried chicken sandwich and bacon inside a biscuit. It also came with cheese, but I omitted mine. The Moneyball, a biscuit and sausage gravy covered with a fried egg And a regular biscuit covered in gravy with an added sausage patty in the middle. With three coffees, our breakfast came to $27. We were lucky to find a table in the covered patio, as the inside was completely full. The food came out quickly, and our biscuit sandwiches were delicious. The one and only biscuit spot I tried during my Portland trip but the only spot I needed to try. Dropped by Pine State Biscuits on a Friday morning and the place was bustlin' with people. It was busy enough to wait a little in line, but not enough to throw the idea of waiting in line out the door. There is some shaded outdoor seating, so space isn't too much of an issue. The place offers different versions of biscuit sandwiches and dressed up biscuits and gravy. There are nine different biscuit sandwich combinations that they offer, but I decided to build my own biscuit with meat (options are bacon, sausage, ham, steak, brisket, and chicken). I went with brisket, egg, and cheese. The biscuit was buttery and fell apart as soon as I bit into my sandwich, so if you're not into messy meals, you might just want try a fork, lol. I enjoyed the combination of my sandwich fillings, but definitely would have enjoyed it a little more if I had added some gravy (which was yum) to add some moisture. What's nice is that they also have different hot sauces out for you to try, so this added a nice kick to my meal. What caught my eye was the bourbon caramel cinnamon roll...THIS IS A MUST TRY. Typically I'm drawn away from caramel, thinking it might be too sweet for my taste, but the hardened caramel icing had the perfect amount of sweetness, adding just the right amount of flavor to the cinnamon roll. The roll itself was nice and buttery and served warm. I can't say I tasted much bourbon, but I give this cinnamon roll a 10/10. This location is normally a morning & daytime spot, but they opened up at night just for us and we were made to feel super special. Who doesn't like food hugs? The menu is here is direct and to the point: Biscuit Sandwiches, Biscuits n' Gravy, and Other. "Hmmm, I'll have the biscuit sandwich". My meal's official name is the, "Reggie Deluxe". The "Reggie" has fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy. The "Deluxe" version simply has a fried egg on top. I tried to tackled this monster like it was a traditional sandwich, but it was simply too strong and I had to bust out the hardware. You'd think the flavors in a sandwich like this might get lost because there's so much going on, but each layer of flavor heaven shined. The biscuits had a little crunch on the outside and a pillowy inside, yet they didn't get mushy after a generous gravy bath. The fried chicken was very flavorful and extremely moist, and the gravy was chug worthy. To top it off, the egg was cooked perfect and when the yolk was broken it coated this dish in golden happiness. As a table we shared a plate of fries and ordered them, "covered and smothered". This meant both cheese and gravy colliding in a foodie battle royal. Yes. These were great. Pine State Biscuits also offers a bevy of made-to-order specialty cocktails and a solid beer selection. I can't even remember how we found out about this place, but it doesn't even matter. All that matters is that we came here and we ate the most delicious biscuit masterpieces. This place is aptly named because the biscuit is so flaky and buttery. It truly could be eaten alone. My biscuit was loaded with tender pork shreds and a tangy slaw. I devoured every bite of this delicious meal. My husband went more classic on his biscuit choice with The Moneyball. This is sausage gravy with an over easy egg on top. It was.so.good. We went on a Tuesday and took advantage of the smaller crowds...we had zero wait, which is always a huge plus when you have two kids under the age of 9. We ate here while on our vacation a few years ago and it was fantastic. We came back again and we had it two mornings in a row it was so good. Luckily I am an early riser so there is hardly a wait at 7-8am. We got biscuits and gravy with the sausage gravy. The biscuits are cooked to perfection. The sausage gravy is the star of the show, it's creamy and has a hint of spice and the flavors are excellent. We added a hint of their hot sauce to it, but give it a taste before you go crazy with it. The real star of the show though was a special poptart they had. This was the sole reason I wanted to go there two days in a row. It was a marionberry and sweet corn poptart. The marshmallow fluff was amazing, and the tart of the marionberry and sweet corn went together like the perfect marriage. I would eat one of those every week if I could! Went with a friend on 04/27/23 , about noon. To be fair, the "breakfast bunch" had come and gone which may explain the sub-par meals. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered biscuits and gravy with an egg ( each ). I noticed when one pays it asks for a tip BEFORE you see what the food is like and how the service stacks up. At this place one must bus their own table. After about 10--15 minutes a gentleman brought our food. Both plates had warm gravy, hot egg, and cold biscuits. I mean colder than room temperature, like it had just been pulled from the fridge. I asked the waitstaff if they could put our meals in the microwave to heat them up. A young lady advised me they do not have a microwave. ( really?) They brought us replacement meals. This time the biscuits were slightly more than room temperature, the gravy almost hot, and the eggs done runny. The flavor of the gravy was very good, although just warm. I'm no cook but it would seem to me most restaurants have a way of serving the food hot. This could just be a matter of lack of experience due to the poor pool of labor available, don't know.
