Went there on a Sunday and there was only one other diner in the front at 4pm. Great for me as I did not need to worry about other diners sharing covid. I sat down and ate in. I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. They have two types of gravy one with ground sausage and one without. I forgot to ask for the sausage gravy. They served me two slices of texas thick slick bread toasted. I added the bowl of clam chowder and it is a rich boston clam chowder made fresh. Chunks of clams, potatoes were in the soup. Swans oyster depot makes a clam chowder with less cream in it. I like the clam chowder from Swans and Pinecrest diner. I ordered to go a mushroom burger and extra bowl of clam chowder for my sister. I tipped $20 for the service. The wait staff frequently filled my coffee cup three times without me needing to ask. Going back this week for the Pinecrest omelette or the fried chicken with waffles combo. For the complainers just go across the street to Jack in the box and stay over there. read more

Food was disgusting, and we even had a few drinks in is before going. The mozzarella sticks tasted like cheese wrapped in cardboard. I got a Denver omelette and only ate my hashbrowns because the omelette was inedible. Boyfriend got hot links and eggs and he could also only eat his hash browns. On top of that, it was expensive. I have been to this diner five times in the last 10 days When the food is excellent as well as the service I will always come back for more. Absolute best chicken fried steak I've ever had! The diner also had the best hashbrowns, the best coffee, and the best french toast. The prices are a little high, but the food there is worth it. The staff are very nice and give quick, attentive service. I very rarely give a 5-star review, but this place deserves it. But I give them two stars because the person managing the door literally telling us in the middle of a business meeting that we had to leave because people were waiting for tables. This rude behavior started 45 minutes after we arrived. We waited for a table too. We had already spent $40 plus tip on breakfast. We politely asked this person to leave us alone to finish our coffee and wrap up our meeting. He kept harrassing us to leave. The waitress, even though slammed, kept my coffee warm and checked in on me to see how things were. She brought the check without having to be asked. From the minute we stepped inside the staff are very welcoming. There were quite a few tables open and for our party of 3 we were told we could pick anywhere to sit. Coffee is good, strong, and plenty of half and half available on the table. Ask for more once you've blown through it. I ordered the hash and two eggs, which also came with potatoes and toast (which had a generous amount of butter - yum!). Everything was hot and freshly made. Cash of course, is accepted. I had two very enjoyable breakfasts, both very close to my Union Square hotel, during my recent stay in San Francisco. The Pinecrest Diner was the cheaper of the two, but still kind of expensive by other than San Francisco standards. The diner is open 24 hours, and does a thriving business around peak meal times. Personally, I like sitting at the counter in a diner, as I get to marvel at the frenetic activity of the short order cooks as they put out plate after plate.
