For every change-of-plan restaurant visit that turns out great, there's bound to be one that turns out equally bad. This visit to Ping's Dumpling House was the latter...would have given it zero stars if I could. My wife, her mom, and I had just taken the free Waterfront Shuttle from the Space Needle, and got dropped off right at the entrance to the Chinatown light rail station entrance. I had identified a close-by restaurant we wanted to try for a late lunch (Korean Fried Chicken)...but the handwritten sign on the door indicated that it was unexpectedly closed until dinnertime. My wife really likes XLB's, so decided to stop into this next door restaurant. It's a decent dine-in space, with two storefronts (one being the carryout, the other being the dining space). The greeter/server made it clear she didn't speak fluent English, pointing to a table to sit, and telling us 'to use App'. It was clear she didn't want to be asked questions. We scanned the QR code, and placed our order. The same server came to give us water and plates and chopsticks. My wife asked for forks for her and her mom, and the server obliged but with a bit of a smirk. The beef noodle soup ($13.99) came first, and individual serving cups were provided, with a self-serve ladle. It was a good start...the soup was OK: they used small precooked beef strips, so the broth was probably instant, but the noodles were decent. We ordered two Jasmine tea ($3.99 each) and it came in a styrofoam take-home coffee cup. Never seen that before for dine-in service. The Pork Steamed XLB ($14.99) came next. They were large and numbered 10 so a decent value...but they fell apart as I tried to pick them...the wrappers were basically disintegrating. There were 3 sauces at the table, but all were vinegar based... which my wife doesn't like. The filling was OK. The final delivery was Shrimp Steamed XLB ($16.99) and it had the same problems as above, but with the added feature of the wrapper being badly freezer burnt (see pictures)...it made me question how old these dumplings were. The filling was mealy and could feel little bits of shrimp in some of the dumplings. We all tried to make a go of it though, with my wife asking for some soy sauce to try to make it edible. Throughout, our dining space was becoming more crowded but the server wasn't clearing. I tried putting the done soup container, so we could have make more space, but she ignored it. So the last time she came (and smirked again when my wife asked for soy sauce), I growled at her "Take it away". She understood, but then became the last interaction with her. One is able to pay through the app, so did that and left. Service at 'authentic' Asian restaurants can be very gruff in the beginning, but can often get better with a bit of cajoling. But this was just bad all the way around, with a server that should not be serving customers, a cook that doesn't know how to reheat dim sum (and serves food that should not be served), and a process that doesn't allow any sort of feedback or comped dishes (since everything is done through an app). Difficult to understand how Ping's Dumpling stay in business...and how other reviews can have any sort of positivity. read more

Over the past few years this has become one of our fav spots in the International District in Seattle. Either we're on our way to a Sounders match or grabbing a bite after Wing Luke museums Chinese New Year ceremony we always find a table ready for us quickly with food arriving as fast as we can place the order on the restaurants app. Service is fast and focused on getting you your food. When you're ready to leave you can pay through the app and they are notified and you can ask for take out containers for any leftovers. I know we should explore the menu more but by the time we've ordered the green onion pancakes, the pot stickers, the soup dumplings, and finally (our favorite found in "cold dishes" Cucumber Silk) we have to call it because it's just too much food. Okay- this is perhaps my first review where the rating gets really docked because of service. The dumplings here are fantastic, but the auntie running the place is perpetually pissed. There is only one person (just her) running the place, and it's clear she's overworked. I feel bad for her, but it's also obvious she doesn't want to deal with customers. With that being said the food is phenomenal. Got the xiaolongbao, jiao zi (pan fried), steamed dumplings, and sheng jian bao (pan fried buns). Everything was delicious, especially with the ginger, garlic, and chili oil. Would recommend getting takeout!! read more

We stopped in to try a few items. We ordered the pork soup dumplings, pork and cabbage buns, green onion pancake and pork and chive pot stickers? The pot stickers were by far my favorite thing we got there, and I would return just to eat those again. The pancake was also delicious! We didn't care for the soup dumplings or the bun though. Check out all the dumplings they have. It's certainly got a lot. There's many for meat eaters and vegetarians. Before going know they make these fresh. That means they're pretty much made to order, so it can be a little of a wait. It's about $14 to get an order. There's about a dozen or so dumplings in these. Enough for a couple people to share a steam box. We got the Napa Cabbage, Tofu, And Black Mushroom Dumplings, which were plump and steaming. Good flavor even before using the oils. When we brought it to the attention of the owner, she was frustrated and mad at US for saying anything about it. She kicked us out of the restaurant while we were finishing our drinks. Looking for something warm and comfortable food, this place wasn't that busy for a Thursday night but all the food was really yummy. I wasn't a fan on the beef noodle soup, it was packed with lots of noodles and beef was a little salty. The dumplings were good. The pan fried bok choy was delicious! Good for comfort food! If you're looking for a family owned mom and pop dumpling restaurant, come here! I'll admit I'm usually the one to hit up Dough Zone, but I was very happy with our meal here. It's in a convenient spot within international district and much cleaner/modern than most other Chinese restaurants lol. We ordered pretty much every staple dish and shared family style! How does an order of streamed dumplings not come out hot? If you are named Ping's Dumplings, why would you even serve this to your customers? Popular spots in the International District often have lines which has me or The Homie a wandering to nearby spots to kill time and explore. Ping's Dumpling House was one of those spots. What was learned based on a takeout order back on 5/31/21 was that they do tasty "meat on a stick" and a pretty decent milk tea. I was able to snag a few bites from The Homie's order. Meat was flavorful, tender, and pretty generous on all the skewers ordered. Milk tea was refreshing, I just prefer other ID locations a bit more. I do have a note to self to return and explore the menu further. read more

I can see this being ideal for smaller places but they have a restaurant, I'm not sure how long you would be waiting if they have 3-4 customers at the same time. One of the dumplings had a really strong horse radish flavor, not really sure what that's about. The soup dumplings were probably the most decent thing we had there and even that wasn't very inviting. We ordered 3 bowls of rice and then were told after the fact they were out of rice. They replaced it with the chive pancake which was dry and unappetizing. The price of the pancake was less than the 3 bowls of rice but we were charged the rice anyways. Not a huge difference in price but when the meal is that bad it stands out. Overall I will never be coming back. Maybe it was an off day, but not worth me spending $20 to find out. read more

Food is great, dumplings are perfect and taste better and a little more 'real' than those of her close neighbor Dough Zone (I love them too). I'm sure lots of her reviews talk in depth about the food, so I will skip that part. Soup dumplings and onion pancake are go-to's though. Walked by and stopped in on a whim. What a nice find. Dumpings are hand made on site. I can tell because the folds remind me of how my mom used to make these and second, there is a window where I can see them making it. XLBs were soupy, and the xuigao had the texture and taste of any I had growing up or tried overseas. This is a good sign as few dumplings wound truly be all that much greater. Condiments on the table were ginger vinegar for XLBs, spicy oil, and garlic sauce. I prefer things a bit on the salty side and would liked a bit if soy sauce, personally. Food was good. The candy dish at the counter were pre-melted so they were stuck together and sticky. I'd recommend that one enjoy the hot food but go next door for dessert. read more

Pings was great fun. It is precisely what the name says: a dumpling house. Soup dumplings (the soup is inside the dumpling), pot stickers, soup with dumplings and a handful of stir-fried items. Ping's is run by two women who manage the cleanest kitchen I have ever seen anywhere. The women will also explain how to eat soup dumplings so you don't burn your mouth or have soup run down the front of your shirt. And don't expect any frills; this is a very spartan store-front restaurant near the Chinatown arch. We had chicken soup dumplings, lamb potstickers, and bok choy with garlic. The soup dumplings were great. I think I'd get tofu potstickers next time. The bok choy was a needed contrast to the dumplings. read more

Aggressively told to get a seat and order. Before we were able to even look at the menu we were told we needed to order. My favorite part was the CHILI OIL. Omg it was spicy but in a good way and delicious. Definitely made the dumplings even better. They also had a garlic sauce available and that was good too. As we got our food we literally were stared down while eating as if they wanted us to hurry up and finish.. it was around 8 by now. As soon as we got our food we were given the check instantly.. not even able to order more if we wanted. They turned off lights in one area. As soon as we were going to pay the whole demeanor of the person serving us changed, she was a older woman. She all of a sudden became every friendly and asked how we liked the food. It was weird.. when we paid literally the couple in the restaurant (server and cook aka wife and husband I'm guessing) were out the door, they closed up and left. This is about a little after 8 now. Granted I want to give them the benefit of doubt and maybe they had some emergency which is why we were given such horrible service that was rushed. But it if your hours have changed UPDATE YOUR INFO. That way people aren't going in last minute and getting such crappy service. But yes go try the dumplings- food is great. Had walked past this place a few times, and finally popped in. Sometimes yelp reviews aren't as accurate, so I thought maybe it would be surprising. Unfortunately, it was surprising, but not in the way that I'd hoped. The cucumber was chopped haphazardly, and just topped with a random topping. All I can say about the taste is "a little sour." Not delicious at all. I don't know how you do a fried tomato-egg dish wrong, but they did it. The egg was overcooked, and the egg/tomato ratio was heavy on the egg side. It was cooked with chives and sesame oil, as is customary... but where was the sugar?!?! Tomato egg is supposed to be sweet, and there was no sweetness. It just tasted like a fried egg with a little tomato and chive mixed in. The dumplings. The crab & pork soup dumplings were ok. Presentation wasn't great, and there wasn't much "soup" to speak of. There was no burst of flavor that you might expect upon biting into a soup dumpling. But, at least it was edible. I can't say the same for the chicken dumplings. Good lord. As my boyfriend said and I quote, "the worst dumplings I've ever eaten." We only ate one each and abandoned them. It was a disappointing experience. :/ If you stumble upon this place while wandering in International District, there's a reason why this place is empty! Went here last night for some takeout. My friend and I got the chive & pork(?) dumpling, beef and onion buns, and lu bao. I can't say we were fans of the dumplings. They were sour, had way too much chive, and weren't well filled. The buns were alright. I thought they could've used a little more filling, but the dough of the buns were super soft, springy, and not dry at all. If I went back, I'd order the beef and onion buns only Overall I wasn't too impressed with the food but service was great and friendly and we only spent $25 for our 3 menu items. read more

We came in on a Sunday at 3pm and had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We got to chat with the owner and learned about how they make food by hand and use family recipes. I like their online ordering system and made it easier for everyone. You could also use it to pay so that's convenient if you're in a rush. Food was great and many options for vegetarians. I'm a huge fan of mom and pop restaurants and will go out of my way to support one rather than eat at a big chain restaurant. We've been passing by this place every few days for months and thought we'd give it a shot. In the entry room there's a big bubble tea counter (always a good sign) with a great assortment of smoothies and bubble tea. The main dining room is full of bright line green tables right out of an 80's movie set. The food and service smacked of the foods we got at the night markets in northern China. Small hand formed dumplings and buns prepared in house and all of the standard sauces. Nothing was mind blowing but everything was good.
