Disappointing dumplings! We came here for dinner and the experience was just very off, from the beginning. First off, we waited to be seated and the two employees just kept looking at us and didn't acknowledge our presence until we finally asked if it's self-seating since they weren't going to assist us. They then asked if it was just the two of us and pointed at the first table by the door. Unfortunately, service didn't get much better as the two servers seemed to be in a hurry when taking orders and literally kept yelling at people, either directing them to menu items, where to sit and confirming orders. Why so loud? But the food was horrible! We ordered the Pork and Chive Dumplings and the Pork Soup Dumplings. Although it didn't take long to get our food, it was all borderline, inedible. Pork Soup Dumplings didn't have any soup and the dough was very dried out, as the texture wasn't moist at all; and you'd think with the shell that it would be soft, but the very tip was hard. Much was the case for the Pork and Chive Dumplings. Those tasted a tad better with the chive flavor, but texture was dry and pork inside was very small. Plus, the dipping sauce and ginger to eat your dumplings with made them taste even worse! The taste was sooo bitter, as if the sauce had been really old, and smell was foul! Dumplings tasted better without the sauce, and that's not saying much. I will not be returning, as the food was a waste of money and service was abrupt and rude. I bought both pork soup dumplings cooked at the restaurant and bought the frozen lamb dumplings. Overall, the dumplings have the potential to be delicious, just some minor changes. Filling: In both, there is a lot of meat filling (good!) in the dumplings, and it tastes good. However, the dumplings are a little bit too salty, and after the first couple of dumplings, it adds up. For context, I typically do not put sauce with the dumplings but will put sauce on at least one. When I had the pork soup dumplings, I did not put any on because it was getting hard to eat them without water. I've shared some of the frozen ones with people who usually put sauce on them, and they couldn't put any sauce on because of the saltiness. For the wrap/skin: I think it's easy to overcook the skin. When I had the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) made at the restaurant, the skin seemed to sag, and it was hard to pick up the dumplings without the skin ripping off. I care more about the meat filling, but I also like having the soup in the xiao long bao. For the frozen dumpling I brought home, some of them already had the soup/juice seeping out after the first to second pour of cold water. For this, I'm not certain what would help fix it. Maybe the wrapping itself is too thin, or there might be too much meat filling, making it easy for the skin to break (I hope it's not the meat). I would love to buy from them again, I don't have the time to make dumplings at home, and their prices are reasonable to me. If it was less salty, I would much prefer to buy their dumplings frozen over the ones sold at the grocery stores. read more

We attended the dragon festival that was located in Chinatown back in July and there weren't a lot of food options, so the rest of our group decided to get something to eat from here. When we met up with them, they already ordered items for everyone to share. We ended up getting the chicken heart skewers, pork and chives pocket, and the crab meat xiao long bao. I wasn't interested in the skewers, but tried the xiao long bao and pocket. The xiao long baos were pretty flavorless, so it wasn't very enjoyable, but the pockets were actually pretty good. They were huge and had a nice crunchy texture. Service wasn't that great and the staff seemed annoyed that we didn't order more food LOL. read more

Went to grab lunch before heading out to the airport and Ping's was one of the few shops open at 10:30am. We were the first customers for the day! Being cold and rainy outside we just wanted something warm but to our surprise the food was delicious and the lady was very nice to take our order because we sat there not realizing we order online lol. The food came pretty fast and the dumpling were so fresh and juicy!!! The wrap was perfect not like some dumplings where it is too thick and barely and meat. This one was meaty and flavorful! The Pork & Chives Dumplings bad generous portions of meat and is especially good with the chili oil and garlic soy sauce mix! Also, I really enjoyed how the pork-chives ratio was just perfect. In addition, the Xiao Long Baos have a unique take, as they aren't filled with your traditional soup base. The Xiao Long Baos are extremely meaty and taste delicious with the the vinegar-ginger sauce. While the food is authentic and quite tasty, I must compliment on the service. 5 star experience for a no frills fast dining experience with great food. Use to come here when the restaurant side was small with only wood benches and chairs and it was combined with a grocery store. They have made significant updates since then with the grocery side being turned into more restaurant seating and the other side is now a bubble tea/smoothie counter. The new updates have made the seating more comfortable and the overall feel is a little more inviting. My favorite item are the chive and pork dumplings (not pockets). The mix of sharp chive flavor and pork is perfect. Way better than any chive option from din tai fung or dough zone. The chow mein is really flavorful, we usually opt for the veg. The pork xiao long bao is good, but not quite on the level of DTF or dough zone. However they are much cheaper making them good value. read more

Five tiny 1/2 inch pieces of lamb that had little flavor for $6. Don't wait your time. The shrimp soup dumplings had more green than shrimp and the shrimp had no flavor. Also little to no soup. During my visit in Seattle, my friends took me to their China Town/International District for dinner and we ended up eating at Ping's Dumpling House. My friends have been here a couple times and said this place was decent. When we arrived on a Sunday night, the restaurant was pretty empty and only had one other party. It was a family of 4 that were finishing up their meal. They were talking to the owner about how good the food was and how they could tell the dumplings were made fresh, which I thought was a nice interaction between customer and owner at a mom and pop shop like this. We ended up ordering 2 plates of dumplings - pork napa cabbage and pork, shrimp, napa cabbage. The dumplings were pretty good although I found the skin of the dumpling to be on the softer side. Some people might like this but I personally like my dumpling skins to have more texture. We also ordered the xiaolongbao here since my friends have never tried them. I'm not too sure why but the skin of the XLB came out to be green, which was fine and didn't change the taste of it. The skin was actually pretty thin and it was very juicy inside. Definitely better than I expected! We also ended up ordering the potstickers (pan fried dumplings), which I thought was probably the highlight of this meal. The restaurant even took extra time to give us a bit of garnish/decoration (probably because we're the only ones there), which was a nice gesture. I totally bombarded Mrs. Ping with a group of 13 people. It took us awhile to answer her simple questions "how many", "chopsticks or forks", "where would you like to sit"? We were horrible. But, she hustled. Her husband was cooking up our storm. She was at our table every couple mins as the food came up. None of us remembered what we ordered. The food was amazing. And the portions were perfect. After all the food was out, she came back and checked in and apologized for waits etc. I couldn't figure out the billing. I thought I had paid her twice. We were seated right away and were able to order directly from our phones pretty quickly! This is strictly about the food we had, the restaurant was a pleasant experience and they take care of their space. We got pork soup dumplings as well as pork dumplings. The soup dumplings didn't taste very good, they seemed microwaved rather than steamed. They were dry and the internals didn't taste like pork. The pork dumplings had good internal ingredients but the skin was too thick and seemed off. It was doughy like it wasn't cooked long enough. I've been let down by the soup dumplings over at Din Tai Fung so I had low expectations but this place definitely exceeded all of them. The service wasn't the best, and they took away our water pitcher halfway through the meal and never replaced it, and I was really thirsty at the end of the meal but had no water. However, I can't even bring myself to dock a star for the service, as the food was so on point. Honestly, for a Chinese restaurant, you can't get any more authentic than service that pays very little attention to you, and seems to care less if you've had a good time. I used to live near Ping's and would stop by frequently whenever I had a dumpling craving. However, I moved, and hadn't been in a couple of years until this past Saturday. While I always thought the product was good, Ping's has changed for the better! First off, it's renovated; the old grocery mart has been transformed into upgraded seating and the restaurant has a trendier vibe. Ping's has also diversified into doing boba. Additionally, whenever I used to go, Ping wasn't exactly warm, which didn't really deter me because as long as the food is good and service is timely, I'm a pretty happy camper. But this time around, Ping was very friendly. Like, not just not cold, but actually making a great effort to make us feel welcome. My partner and I were surprised at the transformation in customer service. Lastly, the food is still great, and even with the updated decor and expanded menu, the price point is very good too. Practically all the dishes were under $10. I mean $8 for 10 perfectly crisp potstickers--does it get any better than that? I believe the soup dumplings were also about $9, we weren't hungry enough to get them this time, but definitely will next. Ping's gives nearby Doughzone some great competition. In fact, Ping's now tops my list of best dumplings and cheap eats in Chinatown. The congee had tofu and black beans, and was much heartier than we expected. We expected a soupier version, but the one we got was like puréed rice soup. It was pretty good. The vegetable buns were soooo good, probably my favorite thing I had. The dough was super soft and a little sweet, and the vegetable filling was good. The reason why this gets 4 and not 5 is because the congee and dumplings had whole black pepper kernels in it, which were IMPOSSIBLE to chew through, and the woman serving us was super nice but in a rush to get us out of there, even though it was only me and my boyfriend and another group of 3 in the entire restaurant. I Love dumplings! This place is great! The fact that it doubles as a market definitely gives it some 'hole in the wall' credibility (in a good way). The place is tiny with a smattering of small wooden tables adjacent to the market. The owner is proud to feature foods from her native city of Qing dao in northeastern China. They now offer daily xiao long bao (shanghai style soup dumplings) which is a plus. I liked the lamb dumplings which is something you don't see very often in the states. Sadly, many of the beauties in my xiao long bao order ruptured during the steaming process. They were tasty anyways. The owner is very nice and always has a smile on her face. I like how she speaks to you in both mandarin and english! Prices are very reasonable (as they tend to be in the international district). There is so much more on the menu I need to try! read more

I mean if you are looking for cheap dumplings, then don't expect the quality, or just don't be cheap and pay for what is reasonable! Produces are more expensive each year and you expect a restaurant to never raise their prices if they want to keep their quality in their food? Hmm, I'd pay for the quality not the quantity. I guess reputation is really important to this place. I saw reviews about how they are rude and not as nice, etc. However my experience was the opposite. I guess also because I was the only one in there... which is sad because their food is good and don't deserve those bad reviews about services and price change! I also over heard a guy came in to ask if they want to sell this place... like wow, they are in crisis that bad that realtor just came in to ask you to sell the place. She denied it nicely, but it was a sad moment when I am sitting right there and can hear everything... I know it is not the best ever place for dumplings, I sure had some better before (and I'm from Hong Kong so imagine how high the bar is when I rate my dumplings). But this is a good place for dumplings and I think their homemade dumplings are great! I love that it reminds me a bit of Shanghai too!
