Promise has become my new favorite pizza place in Austin. As a born and raised New Yorker, I know a bit about good pizza- and Austin is seriously lacking. Are you kidding me? This ain't freakin pizza!! Besides the owners of Eastside Pizza or Home Slice, no one from Austin should be allowed to open another pizza joint. Promise Pizza was a HUGE disappointment based on the reviews here. The dough was soggy, the marinara sauce scarce, and the pepperoni bland!! DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY!!! I am not saying the pizza is terrible but there delivery service to say the least is AWFUL. I have ordered the quatro formaggio several times and picked it up and was always slightly satisfied, despite the high prices. Delivery on the other hand is DISGUSTING. It took over 2 hours for my food to get here and it was cold and god awful (leftovers also suck). Simply put, don't order delivery. I order promise several times a month. Always a good experience. The pizza is good filling but I never feel gross afterwards. I can throw down some pizzas d the typical delivery places make me feel horrible and I ultimately regret my decision. Always had good customer service and pizza has been cooked very well. I am writing this review as I try to choke down this pizza, in the hope to accurately describe the horror and prevent anyone else from making the same mistake I did. We were excited to try a new pizza place that delivered to our neighborhood. Never again. The sauce on this pizza is so sweet, it tastes more like syrup than tomato. It is awful. Never heard of the place until last week when my wife pointed it out while aimlessly driving around to waste time on my day off. Guess you didn't need to know any of that. Anyways, my wife is vegan and I'm trying to be dairy-free for a while and my wife said she read online that they can cater to those needs. I got a pepperoni pizza and she got one of their specialty pizzas, the prices were pretty good. The pizza tasted great, but the cheese substitute is very.... sticky? We have been big fans of Promise Pizza for a long time, but they've changed a lot since getting new management in the past year or so. The website wasn't working properly yesterday so I had to call in my order. The pizza we ordered yesterday (1/16/15) had the most awful tomato sauce I've ever tasted. It was pasty and had no seasonings at all. The veggies were sliced ultra thin so that they were stringy. The veggies were also very mild and lacking in flavor. It was bad enough that we're done with Promise Pizza. It's too bad because they used to be great. read more

Good that it's organic. But I wasn't overly impressed with the taste/texture. No specific complaints -- I'd just rather have Papa John's if I'm going to have an unhealthy meal. I'm not sure what the 'health' pitch is here, though they do meet dietary restrictions on some items (dairy-free cheese and gluten-free crust). Might go back if I have a coupon. This review was for Promise Pizza, not Pizza Day (they changed names) Delicious pizza! Went here right before closing (9:30) on a Friday night and the guy working was super chill and friendly. I didn't opt for the vegan cheese, but I'm happy to know that's an option here. We got the Nature's Selection or whatever it's called with whole wheat crust and it was DELICIOUS! I was craving pizza after doing my mostly raw vegan thing and this place didn't make me feel guilty for having cooked food and dairy all in one meal, eek! haha... It's rare to find a pizza place that has vegan pizza (and other options, such as vegan calzones) but this place does. So, upon moving to Austin we just had to try it out. We have since tried pickup and delivery and all went great! The pizza is great, as were the people. And the bonus is that it's organic and they offer whole wheat pizza!! read more

The best pizza I have ever had. Organic ingredients (grass fed beef). They have many options for the sauce: Tomato, Garlic/oil, Pesto, Alfredo. He makes these sauces by hand every day. I come here all the time, because I can change it up with sandwiches, calzones, salad, etc.. They even have a lunch special: personal pizza with 2 toppings and lemonade for $5. Don't eat artificial cheese and canned sauce at other pizza shops. This chef is Italian and has many Italian desserts that he also makes by hand (cannoli, tiramisu, etc.) read more

When I got there it wasn't even IN the oven and they mumbled some excuse that they were waiting until I got there? I scheduled it for pick up so not sure what the logic was there. I used to love getting Vegan Calzones here. Not anymore. They downsized them by quite a bit. $7 bucks for a small calzone is not worth it. For a larger one that can be shared between two, yes. If you are looking for a specialty pizza shop, then don't go to Promise Pizza. You cannot compare this place to Home Slice or Salvation. But if you want a healthier version of take out pizza (ie Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc) then Promise is for you. I ordered a regular medium cheese pizza on their regular whole wheat crust, and it was rather tasty. The cheese tasted like it was of higher quality than those other pizza joints, and I really liked the sweetness of the tomato sauce. For those allergic to gluten, they also offer gluten free crust. Docked a star because it is pretty pricey for what you get - a medium pizza is just a 10", which equals eight skinny slices. Perfect for two with a small appetite. read more

I called to check the status and was cut off by a very rude man on the phone saying it's on its way but no apology or answer as to why it has taken this long on a Sunday evening. I was stoked to find an organic pizza place, but after trying it out I found it too be super bland and way too sweet. I had a cheese/tomato/mushroom on wheat crust. I think the tomato sauce is the sweet part. It had very little flavor and I was pretty disappointed. I eat healthy but I still want some flavor with garlic/basil/salt... I seriously can't say enough about this Gluten Free Pizza they have here. They make the crust their any size you want and you would never know you were eating gluten free unless someone told you. It's really that good. We had stumbled upon it last year when we were trying to find a place to deliver pizza to our hotel for the kids. This year when we came back our girls where begging to have it again so I on my old age had to search for hours to find the exact pizza again because I forgot to do a review last year. This will now be our go to pizza every time we come to Austin. I'm simply amazed at how wonderful the crust tastes. They even had gluten free desserts. Last year when we called the chef answered to take our order and when he found out we had gluten free kids he offered to make them gluten free chocolate beignets with the extra dough he had just made up. Roger here is awesome! My friend and I are vegan and he was more than accommodating with answering our questions, making sure we got our pizzas as we wanted. He even went above and beyond to say that if we could find vegan pepperoni or things like that, we could bring it in and he would put it on the pizza for us. First Yelp review. I'm on this page since I'm raving about this place to my wife tonight, thought I'd add something. I grew up eating pizza made by Italians. I'm from the East Coast. In a 5 minute drive in any direction from my home, was pizza made by Italians. Boston and NY was a weekend destinatinion for me. And in no way do I think pizza needs to be made by Italians or in a certain destination to be good. Some of the best pizza I've had was in Asia, but it was made by people who knew pizza. So, on whim, looking at the sign that said, pizza by the slice, I thought I'd grab a slice. I wasn't even hungry, I was just thinking I'd try it since finding a slice of pizza in Austin is a hard think to find. I also thought the signage kind of turned me off from the place. It has a healthy and happy and organic kind of signage, which to me doesn't lend to a pizza that I would like. Only after eating at the place did I know if does have some more healthier options. I'd like to say that when eating pizza, eat salad all day then endulge, in my mind without experience I'd say it is worth it. So, I order a pepperoni slice noticing that the rotating heater of slices is empty. And the person who greets me with a very Itialian accent says he can't serve re-heated pizza as it isn't very good. I'm at a %50 break here, I don't want to wait for a custom made slice of pizza, but for some reason I say I'll wait for it. So in the time it takes to cook a pizza, I get my one slice. I walk to the car and start eating it as we do in the East coast. And....... the crust is just right. And the sauce is something like nothing in Austin, it's light and almost perfect. And there is a blend of cheese that is magical, like nothing I've had in Austin. This may be the best pizza in Austin. At this point I'm heading out of the parking lot, but I stop and park and go back into the store. I bust in and ask, "Who are you and where do you come from and why is this so good?". They reply is I'm from Seville from the Tuscany region of Italy. I grab a couple of flyiers. I'm going to tell everyone at my company that this may be the best pizza in Austin. I read the back of the flyier and the new chef is from NY and won an award for the best pizza in Ny by I think the NY Post at a cookoff. DO YOU KNOW HOW AMAZING THAT IS!!!! So I'm blabbering about this place at work, I bring Texas guy again today. He digs the pizza a lot. I'm still jazzed about the place after eating two more slices. The chef sits with us and tells us all about his pizza history, and how he makes it and winning the award. Now pizza is like art, or movies, or brownies, each person has thier own idea of what they like. I hate to use the word good or bad with food as it is a personal taste. But I'd say the pizza they are cooking at this establishement is top notch. It's a light pizza with fresh sauce and a cheese combination that screams incredible. Again, this being my first review, and it hurts me to give away a secret since I might see an hour long line out the door next time I go. But this is art. This is amazing. Don't get the delivery and be disappointed it took to long, pick it up yourself or eat it at the not so great dining room they have there. I'll be there many more times soon. Well this SHOULD be a happy review. I ordered from Promise Pizza through the Yelp app a week ago, and got a great salad and calzone. The calzone was in fact so large I was able to easily save half for lunch the next day. And the salad came with options to add extra ingredients, and I was so glad to have prosciutto as a choice. Today when I tried to order, the menu was incomplete, and I learned that the Austin location is now Pizza Day. Most of the menu appears to be the same, but there are fewer salad options, no option to add toppings, and no option to even have pizza sauce for the calzone. So a week ago I would have been 5 stars but now I'm so disappointed I had to make note of it and leave just three. read more

Went there several weeks ago before catching a movie and were thoroughly unimpressed. The sausage & cheese calzones had no discernible flavor. The only way to tell what was in a bite was the texture - dry was crust, stringy was the cheese and somewhat solid would be the sausage. Add to that the marinara tasted like Prego straight out of a jar in the fridge.
