A piece of the pie. My friend and I had planned to visit the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue and were looking for place near by to indulge on a NYC food favorite. Yes, of course I am talking about pizza. And thanks to the trusty Yelp app, we soon found ourselves at the doorstep to Pizzarte. We received a warm welcome from the bartender as the hostess was in the midst of seating other diners. He invited us to sit at the bar, and we gladly accepted his invitation. At first I was skeptical since the seats/area seemed slightly cramped. However, all of these inconsequential thoughts were soon put to rest as we enjoyed exceptional service and delicious food. DRINK: Spritz--Aperol, prosecco, orange peel. Refreshingly delightful. Perfect for the humid weather in NYC. Recommended by the bartender. FOOD: I definitely experienced a lapse in judgement as I ordered the gnnochi for dinner. And yes it was quite good. The sauce as not overly rich and the dish was prepared well. I loved it actually. I ate the entire portion. Still, dining in a restaurant with a name like "Pizzarte", I really, really should have ordered PIZZA. Now, my friend had much more sense than at the time. He actually did ORDER a PIZZA for dinner. The Pizza Capriccciosa to be precise. Thankfully, the evening wasn't a total loss as he took pity on my pizza-less self and offered a slice. The pizza was amazingly good and had me rethinking, with slight regret, my choice of food. In any case, we both enjoyed our dinner tremendously. To cap off our evening we decided to share the tiramisu. This portion is probably enough for one person, but was just right for the two of us. A great (sweet) treat to end the night. SERVICE: Absolutely terrific. The bartender provided wonderful customer service. Though we weren't the only diners at the bar, he definitely gave the utmost attention when speaking or providing recommendations to all of us. He was friendly, polite, and charismatic. Also, he made you feel very welcome, almost as if he were welcoming you into his home. BOTTOM LINE: Great food and phenomenal service. I'd sit at the bar if I were you. read more

Oh my goodness this was the best gluten-free pizza I've ever had my entire life! I love this place and would go every day if I could. The drinks were also amazing and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Sat and had a nice dinner at the bar with my husband. The pizza was made quickly right in front of us, husband's steak was wonderful and the broccoli was also fabulous. It was a little pricey but that's to be expected given the area. The atmosphere, quality of food and portion sizes plenty made up for the price. read more

Best gluten free pizza I have ever had!! I've been gf for five years, and this is the first excellent pizza I've had in that time. The crust was handmade, artisanal and truly delicious. SO GOOD. It amazes me that this place isn't more crowded, but that's what makes it even better. My pizza was so so good that I ordered a second. Overpriced, tasteless pizza. The crust was excellent but the sauce was weak, the mozzarella more liquid than cheese and there was only one, sad, droopy piece of basil on the entire pizza. The staff was nice and attentive, maybe a bit much. Certainly not worth over $150 for a couple appetizers, pizza and drinks. I'll go to my local pizza place next time. read more

This review is long overdue. PizzArte is amazing. By far one of the best gluten free pizza crusts I've had in New York. And that says a lot. When my pizza came out and I took a bite, I had to ask the waiter if it was really gluten free. There was no way that a gluten free pizza could taste like a regular pizza, right? Well, this one does. I hate going to midtown and avoid it at all costs, but I'll happily make a trip to PizzArte for their pizza. I am bringing this rating down mostly because of the last couple of orders I've requested that were wrong. First,pick up order where we mentioned no speck- we didn't check the pizza so, that was a pizza I had to throw away. Second, we ordered two margaritas one Sunday morning and were only delivered one. The driver kindly went back and picked another up - It was just super wet and greasy this time. Annoying for a place with good pizza. read more

Definitely not impressed on any front. I wasn't greeted, just handed a menu wordlessly when I was one of two parties in the entire restaurant. They made my Moscow mule with mint which I have never heard of before, if I want a mojito I'd just order that. The pizza was cut into four pieces, something I've also never seen before. It tasted pretty bland, like the sauce was store bought. I'm pretty disappointed as it's not an inexpensive place either. There's a million pizza spots in NYC, try another one. read more

Best pizza! We got there after our 7 mile walk around midtown. welcomed by nice staff and seated almost immediately. We specifically came to try their pizza. We ordered a bottle of wine which was priced accordingly to Manhattan standard, a generous spinach salad and a nice NY Tartufata pizza. I cannot say more but keep up the good work with making such a good pizza. We will be back again. read more

Went there on a frigid NYC evening and the place was almost empty, yet they didn't have any available tables except the two terrible ones downstairs by the door. Asked the hostess if we could sit upstairs and she went up to ask the manager or whoever the man was upstairs and he said no we don't have any room and that they were saving those tables for reservations. We looked online as we were standing there and there were plenty of tables/reservations every fifteen minutes. Terrible way to treat potential customers. read more

A great place to come for a quick bite! After our show, we stopped in here right before closing time (11:00 p.m) and ordered drinks and a pizza. We went for the Diavola and found it delightful. Savory, with fresh basil, it hit the spot after logging almost 18,000 steps. Washed it down with a crsip Ambrata beer that only made the experience better. We knew we came to the right place when a couple from Napoli sat down next to us and told us that this was the real deal. True, authentic Neapolitan cuisine, great for families or a date night. Or just any night. Such a joy eating here and supporting this business. We sat outside and Andrea was the most gracious and attentive waiter/manager we could have asked for. He recommended a wonderful bottle of Lahn Sauvignon to pair with our Tartufata pizza with truffle, mushrooms, speck and mozzarella, and a wonderful pasta dish with a decadent meat sauce. We got there after the Broadway show, almost before their closing time, welcomed by nice staff and seated almost immediately. We specifically came to try their pizza. I red a lot of opinion which varied from the best to the worst so it took some deliberation with choosing this place. We ordered a bottle of white wine which was fairly priced, octopus appetizer and two pizzas: Pulcineela (Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes, Prosciutto, Arugula, Shaved Parmigiano) and Ragu Napoletano (Smoked Buffalo Mozzarella, Traditional Neapolitan Veal And Pork Ragú). The second pizza was so good, probably one of the best I had so far, superb combination of flavors melting together over perfect dough. Octopus was made to ideal tenderness served with pickled onions, greens and saffron ginger aioli. I cannot say more but keep up the good work with making such a good pizza. When it comes to the best Neapolitan pizza places in my neighborhood, PizzArte has held one of the top spots for the past few years. But somehow, I haven't gotten around to writing about them until now, even though I've eaten here a bunch of times. Needless to say, this review is long overdue. I usually order the tried and true margherita pizza: simple, but also surprisingly difficult to prepare, because there aren't a ton of toppings at the chef's disposal to disguise any potential shortcomings. PizzArte's margherita directly reflects the high-quality ingredients used to make it; the San Marzano tomato sauce is sweet, the mozzarella is soft and milky, and the basil is fresh. I love that the restaurant offers whole grain crust for the health-conscious (as well as gluten-free, for those with dietary restrictions). The dough is chewy and evenly charred in the wood-fired oven, and despite its thinness, the crust has never been burnt, a mortal sin that can destroy an otherwise great pie. My only real criticism is that on a couple of occasions, they used an excessive amount of oil, which formed a pool in the center. Because the crust is so thin, the oil made the pizza a bit soggy. Since this hasn't occurred very often, it doesn't significantly affect my overall rating. While PizzArte does serve other Italian dishes, don't pass up the chance to try their pizza! read more

PizzArte is the creation of a lawyer and an executive from Campania, both of whom have lived and worked in New York for years. These two art lovers are great fans of Neapolitan traditions and understand what it takes to exceed the expectations of New Yorkers.

Meet the Business Owner: Bruno C. and Dario C.

Bruno Cilio is a business lawyer with offices in Italy as well as New York. Bruno is a talented amateur chef who felt compelled to preserve the culinary traditions of Campania. As the founder of Cilio & Partners, P.C., Bruno assists corporate and independent European investors with their business dealings in the US and American clients with their European transactions. Dario Cipollaro de l'Ero is an experienced executive and consultant for well-known luxury Neapolitan menswear brands in the U.S., who has also managed manufacturing companies in Italy, India and Indonesia.

Instinctively I took a piece of that in to my mouth first and was met with the most rancid tasting cheese ever. The cheese was definitely not fresh and had a terrible smell on the outside. I moved this to the side to try the pasta which was honestly forgettable. There simply was not enough basil pesto in the dish, the sauce fell flat on taste and seasoning was nearly absent. The side of broccoli rabe was also so bad and forgettable. The stems were tough to chew, there was no salt and not a single speck of garlic in this dish. This is one of the priciest, grossest plates of pasta and vegetables I have ever had in the city. My friend ordered the eggs Florentine and said it was A-okay. Service was good and food came out on time but honestly I would not dine here again. They really need to step up their food quality if they want to continue doing business in the city.

We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. I give them two stars because the gluten free crust is actually pretty amazing, while still being just as overpriced as gluten free pie anywhere else. All-in-all you can get a far superior pizza at Blaze Pizza for half the price, and four times the toppings. First off the crust is way to thick. If this was a real "large" pizza you could get away with a 2 inch wide crust, but with such a tiny pizza you don't need a ridiculously sized bread handle to eat it. So much crust. So little toppings. Two leaves of basil is not a topping and should not even be listed as a topping. I tried to get meatball as a topping and they said no. I saw the host skin, de-bone, and trim what looked like a grilled bronzini for a customer, in front of him, at the bar, but they couldn't slice up a half a meatball, throw it on a pizza and call it a topping? They even took the head off the bronzini which is a shame. I would've taken the cheeks off, put it on a spoonful of rice, and charged $14 for it. Which is what I had to pay for three Domino's sized meatballs in two cups of sauce. I also had a lengthy conversation with them about how I wanted Castelvetrano olives on my Margherita (which came with two leaves of basil "topping"). She tells me they don't have Castelvetrano olives. I say yes you do. She says they don't offer it as a topping. I say yes you do, that's how I know you have them They're on the Tonno pizza if you're wondering. She says she has to ask the "chef" and the chef says it's okay. Now Castelvetrano olives are the really bright green olives. So good! What we got were black greek olives. My 8 year old son who loves Castelvetrano olives, immediately saw the difference, tried it anyway, and literally spit them out and said "I hate greek olives!" Luckily they only cut up two olives so it wasn't hard to take them off. Honestly, the most disappointing pizza experience I've ever had in New York City. read more

I went on a Saturday evening with 4 adults , a 2 year old and a 5 year old. The plate of Pasta they suggested for the babies was eaten by both. wow. What the kids didn't finish, the adults ate and approved of very much. Fresh made pasta with a Marzano Tomato Marinara. We ordered the following Octopus Carpaccio, 2 Pizzas, and a Mixed seafood Grill. Everything including the olives were great, The mixed grill had a salad with it and I ate every bit. The pizza crust was crispy and flavorful, the toppings were enough and not overloaded making the pizza light and delicious. They suggested a wine and it was very tasty also! Then we ordered four deserts. First was the Tiramisu, fresh in a dish , very yummy. second was the Apple Tart and pastry creme I think, I tasted a bit and before I could get another bite it was devoured and I didn't get another taste but crumbs ( Yummy crumbs ) third was the flourless chocolate cake with almonds and a scoop of ice cream. It was hot and melty with the almonds giving it a crunchy texture that was very nice . The Kids shared a plate of three flavors of ice cream and made a nice mess of it. A great dinner and I want to go back to taste the other things that I saw on other peoples tables on the walk in. Prices are good. It is not cheap and the quality is far above many other restaurants in that the ingredients are fresh and put together expertly and with care. Melanzane Alla Parmigiana A simple preparation of baked eggplant with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. Simplicity is underrated. Order this. Frittura all'italiana This right here is a mandatory order, and a way to sample a lot of PizzArte's antipasi all at once. The sampler offers up a tasty potato croquette, pizza fritter, rice balls, zucchini, and a small version of the fried pizza montanara, but with eggplant. Spinaci Salad There's a nice selection of salads on the menu, and we were fans of this combination of spinach, golden beets, goat cheese, mango, and pistachio nuts. Paccheri al Baccalà We weren't expecting much from this pasta dish, but we were pleasantly surprised. It's a big serving of pasta with fresh tomato, Sicilian capers, olives, and squares of chopped cod. We'd order this again. Montanara Pizza It's definitely worth trying once. This fried, then baked mozzarella and parmesan pie is quite delicious. Unfortunately, it's just not as delicious as the one we love so much from Forcella. A very underrated and a very understated, Pizz'Arte serves an amazing pizza and an authentic array of Italian specialties. Popular with midtown lunch crowd on weekdays, it was practically deserted at 5;15 on Saturday, but by 6 PM, it was all filled both downstairs at the bar and upstairs. We ordered two pizzas to start, carpaccio and frittura di mare. The Montanara pizza is amazing. The dough tastes like nothing I ever had before and I ate my share of delicious pizzas both in NY and in Italy. The frittura di mare is exactly how I remember eating fresh, flash-fried seafood by the beach. We then got main courses. Hubby went for the swordfish and got a nicely sized dish with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I went with one of their pastas which we were told, were made in house. We also ordered a bottle of a white wine and although, initially, we wanted Pinot Grigio, our server recommended Gavi Gavi, same price, but it was a much smoother taste, easier on the palate than Pinot, we liked it a lot. Of course, we could not pass up the dessert. Hubby and I shared pannacotta, and our kid got an ice cream, a huge portion, so we had to help him. If you're in the mood for good quality artisan pizza before or after a visit to MoMA, then Pizzarte will suit you well. It's a little pricey for pizza ($11 for basic cheese pizza, up to $20-25 for various options), but enjoyable. We had one with sausage and mushrooms, and the "Matriciana", with a bacon-based tomato sauce, and only a sprinkling of cheese. The crust is top-notch, and tastest perfectly like the brick oven you can watch in the corner. Very fresh, and good quality. The only seating is at the bar, so you'll be side-to-side with your companion, but otherwise, a good restaurant. This is not "New York style" pizza by any means, but has a good home just a short walk from Times Square. ------------- Update: I'm going to add a star here. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars, but given that the owner took the time to read and comment on the review, I would recommend that you try Pizzarte, since they obviously care about the customer experience. I don't recommend this restaurant to people that don't have taste of Italian lifestyle (that right;when you are here you are exactly in the other side of the world, you won't believe that this place is actually in Manhattan but Naples in Italy) the pizza is a standing ovations with the freshest Buffalo mozzarella in town delivered weekly to not mention the pasta wooohh fresh made home stile pasta. I was so excited about Pizzarte that I booked for a party with my old Italian friends (besides thay don't speak very much English) because the sound you hear is like sitting in Naples Vicoli little streets so beautiful the service is very excellent. They were so pleased and surprisingly about this restaurant that now invite me all the time they going there otherwise they staying home. I finally found a place for my own. I was very impressed with this place. It's unique decor was something I wouldn't expect from a pizza place/restaurant. It reminded me of an art gallery I'd find in Chelsea. The pasta was excellent. I tried this pasta genovese, it was out of this world. I also ordered a pizza to start because there was no way I'd leave without trying one. I ordered their montonara, a fried pizza and it was amazing. I was expecting something greasy, but it was not at all. It was actually light and very tasty. We had a bottle of Grangnano wine with our food and this sparkling red went great with our meal. The service was excellent and helpful. Hands down the best pizza I have had outside of Naples - probably because they brought Naples to New York. It seemed like everyone was Italian even our cute little server. I was here with a group of colleagues on Friday night and we were promptly seated at the time of our reservation at a high table on the top floor. The place was packed and a bit loud but the energy was amazing. The service was not the quickest but when we got our food it was very much worth the wait. Everything was really authentic and fresh. The waiter was very nice and attentive despite an enormous almost frenetic activity level. The main dish was home made pasta with seafood, it was the best pasta that i have eaten! I often travel from Milan to New York and I've tried dozens of Italian restaurants. It had never happened to find a cook who respect the true italian traditions with so much attention and propose mouth-watering Italian dishes prepared to perfection .... not to mention the pizza Pizzarte, the same that is found only in Naples and that it is impossible to find in Milan! Had a bad experience, I ordered 2 gluten free pizzas. I did not noticed that one was regular until it' was to late. Both orders were with mozzarella, basil, and prosciutto. I called and let them know about the error. I send pictures and the one in charge accused me of taking off the cheese and basil. I wanted for them to admit the error. I will never compromise my integrity for anything, nevertheless a pizza. I wanted for them to acknowledge the error and move on. Instead, decided to accuse me. The pizza at this place is a little pricey considering I can get a better (and bigger) pizza elsewhere for less. Then again, it's Midtown. Anyhow, the pizza was still very good and the atmosphere was rather nice with candle lit tables and edgy-ish design. A lot of the people ate pizza with a fork and knife which I found a bit pretentious but I still chose to stick to my roots and man handle the slice (way to sound butch, Azemina). I came to NYC for holidays and found this amazing restaurant where I had taste The best Italian cuisine at the city, great food, embracing ambiance, nice service and the best dirty martinis in town ,I highly recommend Pizzarte. The only thing which is good there is pizza, the food is non consistent - I had the absolute worst food there, and some descent one. When you call for delivery no one answers, and when you try to call main number they say - it's not our problem that you can't reach anyone. The only way to deal with them is to go in and have only pizza, nothing else - then it's ok. The minute you want to order a delivery or order anything else - it becomes a disaster with bad service. read more

I really dig the space. It's nice and airy and modern in a 1950s Italian sense of modern. The pizza itself is pretty good, and definitely hits the right spot when I have a wood burning/Neapolitan pizza craving and I'm in midtown. It's not touching Keste or Roberta's, but it is a nice addition to the goofy midtown lunch scene. It is a buck or two too pricey for what you get, but it is expensive midtown, and if this were downtown I'd probably only give it 3 starts. read more

Walking in search of a good Italian restaurant, I found a nice place Pizzarte. I really had a great experience. Warm and friendly ambience, all the staff spoke Italian. . Our food was divine, the appetizer eggplant funghetto and octopus carpaccio was just right, we share a homemade ravioli and mix grill fish and a salad.....a fabulous bottle of white wine fiano di avellino . Definitely the most authentic pizza and original restaurant in midtown. Their menu is a bit innovative without eccentricity making it appealing to both the most simple and sophisticated palate. There is a good share on attention to taste and creativity. I would imagine this place being full and with a line outside, but I always manage to gat a table and my wait is acceptable (food is worth the wait anyway). Prices are fair. read more

On a really rainy day in New York we found PizzArte for lunch after visiting Moma and had a great meal. The minestrone was fresh and filled with veges. The arugula salad was perfectly balanced and dressed and the pizza was superb. I eat at Pizzarte at least 3 times a week. NYC's best pizza for sure. Atmosphere, enhanced by the art pieces, and service are outstanding. I'm moving back to Milan in a few months and it sounds silly, but I'm afraid such a good pizza will not be easy to find even in my/pizza home country. The rest of the menu is also great, variety is good and the wine and alxohol selection one of the greatest. read more

I recently tried a new pizza place that came highly recommended, but I found the experience to be pretty average. The crust was neither crispy nor chewy. The sauce was bland with no hint of the rich tomato flavor or aromatic herbs that make a great pizza base. Toppings were sparse. The second my friend finished eating the waitress scooped in and took her plate. The second I put the last slice on my place, she grabbed the rack. Every time we finished or nearly finished something, she was there to take it away. We didn't order dessert. The check came, we paid and left. No thank yous. Good byes. Anything. My friend who had never eaten there said that was such an odd experience. And indeed it was. The food wasn't memorable enough for me to return.
