Hands down my favorite place to get hot pot. I have yet to try all of the soup bases, but I do always enjoy the both the spicy and miso. I really enjoy the fact that I can pick everything that I want to add to my dish without limitations. Also all of the options are always great and look fresh. I also love the variety as you are able to try something new every time you visit. The staff is always very attentive, making sure to check in every so often for drinks and to reorder meats. Been here on several occasions and it seems like it gets worse each time. From reading other Yelp reviews, the business seems to not be up to par for many customers as well. First off, I like that they have a good selection of broths to choose from, but they're all too salty in my opinion. I've tried Miso, Mala, PK Shabu, and Tom Yum and they're all a little saltier than expected. Second, I want to bring it to attention that my last visit a few days ago was the worst experience ever at a Shabu restaurant. Went in a told them I had a huge party for 8 people. They were generous enough to seat two of us first (plus a baby) while we wait for the rest of the party. We wanted to order first and this is where it went downhill from here. One guy say "we need to wait for at least 4 people to turn on the stove." Walked away and I didn't even get to say anything. Another guy came over and I told him we wanted to eat first and he said "we need all your parties here before anyone can order." Mind you the restaurant is basically empty and I can see why. The service is literally horrible. Just because we wanted to eat first they got all upset at us. One waiter literally had the worst attitude ever and came over and said "it's fine go ahead order first." I even said we can be a separate party if we have to just to eat first. I just don't see what's wrong with ordering first?? Again, the restaurant was pretty much empty... why give us attitude? 6-7 waiter and they're all standing around chit chatting and starring at my table whispering... it's so obvious they were talking about us. Lastly, with everything that happened, I pretty much lost my appetite. Then the buffet disappointed me so much. The vegetables had nothing special... seafood was mediocre. 90% of the Buffett was frozen food. They didn't even have enoki mushrooms and personally, I think that's a staple for Shabu. For the price you pay, the food is not high quality.. Shabu meats is good so I'll give them that. I will not be returning and 7/8 people from my group barely eat because they lost their appetite from all the bad attitudes we got. Although, there was one guy with the glasses that was very nice and helpful. He came around a few time and to be honest it seemed like to me he was the only one working and running around. We eat Shabu every day when we are over in California! We have been looking high and low for a Shabu place in Arizona and I can't believe it has taken us this long to find PK SHABU!! This is just as good, if not better than any Shabu place over in California. We've been to so many and the options here are plentiful and fresh! We will definitely put this in our regular rotation. The place is nice, clean, the cuts of meat are good and the food was good. The service was good at first but then it slowed down after a shift change. By that's not the reason for one star... I refuse to give any restaurant more than one start that adds any kind of "fee" to the check. In this case I think they called it a processing fee. Frankly, it should be illegal. The ambiance isn't all that great, it's usually packed with families and I think it could be more aesthetically pleasing, so that's why I was shocked at how good the food actually is! I have been at PK a handful at times throughout the past year before the ramen wall and the time when they had sushi. Every time I come it is a hit or miss! The prices for ayce definitely went up to $36 now I believe. However, the amount of vegetable and seafood selections they have can make up for the price. The meat quality is decent and the service is ok. The ambiance of the place is well suited for large group parties. I will say that I enjoy another place hot pot because the meat quality is better there compared to here. Sometimes the broth at PK can be watery or tastes so much like salt. The mala broth is slightly spicer than the house spicy broth if you want a little more kick. The sukiyaki & tom yum broth is good as well! Pretty solid Hot Pot in Tempe. I'm happy to see more & more Hot Pot places as the popularity increases. If you've never tried Hot Pot before you should give it a try! Hot Pot is definitely not for everyone but I really like it. At about $30 per adult it's not cheap either. However this place is all you can eat so you'll definitely get your fill. There's a whole bar full of vegetables & sauces for you to choose from & use. At your table you order the meat options. They will bring you as much as you can eat. The first time I have been here. I just started my meal 5 minutes and there was a power shortage. So it's really dark and no electricity there. Actually, it causes by the storm and it is not their fault. However, the server came to our table and told us they can offer us a 50% discount on the meal. It is an all-you-can-eat hot pot. We just started 5 minutes which means we did not get anything ready here to eat. And they will charge us 50% of all admissions. I told the server we just started and did not get anything to eat (actually he is our table's server so he knows we just started), and he said: So, do you want to talk to the manager? We said yes, and he came back for a while and said we can purchase with 50% off, or if you do not want to pay, you have to leave right now. It is ridiculous, I don't like their attitude. We felt so bad. And today, one week later than the previous experience. We went to the restaurant the server at the door told us we are closed already. (10:45 PM). LOVE the All You Can Eat for $30 (extra if you want premium cuts like ribeye steak, etc. - which is understandable). Buffet includes plenty of vegetables, different noodles (though do wished the egg noodles weren't cut up) and a plethora of seafood. Got the Gin & Lychee cocktail, which was amazing. Staff are friendly and check in regularly. Only reason for the deduction in a star? The tables are SMALL. It's hard to find enough space for all your plates and sauces. The broth is good - but not as flavorful as I'd like - but salty because I was so thirsty afterwards. We have came here a total of two times, we thought our first bad experience was a fluke, but our second time was even worse. This place I honestly believe only has good ratings because of the fact that it's AYCE that's it. The quality of their meats is subpar at best. Yes, they may have more options than JIN shabu, but doesn't make them better, by any means. But don't take my word for it, try this place if you want, then try what I've suggested. This place is pretty huge and it reminds me of a really busy H-Mart food court lol. It gets really packed and get ready to bump elbows. Everyone gets their own individual hotpot and a self serve buffet of variety of veggies, seafood, and meats. It's definitely a huge step up from places that are already here and see a steady business flow. The prices are $20 for lunch. $30 for dinner. $20 for vegetarian. And $17 for children under 10 years old. So far they have just opened up and will expect problems and such which are normal. They also have a sauce bar that you can mix up and become a sauce god. They have servers broths to choose from and I recommend getting the spicy broth as it taste similar to Tom yum. PROs: Wonderful top notch service, CLEAN, wide variety of fresh goodies (veggies, noodles, seafood, CHEESE?) to add to our hot pot, paper thin quality meat, very spacious and loooved the individual hot pot style as well as the easy to use controls for the heat level CONs: Sauce bar was a bit lacking and price for AYCE was $27 (not an everyday price, a once in a while for sure) Note: Since the meat is cut so so thin, if you have a group of 4 people you could definitely try every single one of the meats. Just wanted to share this beautiful ramen wall. Went to PK Shabu today and was pleasantly greeted to additions to their AYCE. They have this ramen wall for you to grab for your hot pot. Their menu now also comes with some sushi roll items (limit one roll per person at the table). Out of the sushi options, one also includes a small poke bowl option. Also, their ayce buffet options now includes salmon and two other fishes (before only had one), a couple more seafood options (their shrimp was also really large and deveined), pork and beef ribs (pre-cooked for you to add to broth; was a bit dry though). They also have some dessert cake slices (chocolate cake, tres leches, and cheesecake). The cake was kind of dry but the chocolate cake surprisingly had this really rich dark chocolate frosting that I liked. I don't normally like frosting at all but since this was dark chocolate and not very sweet I kept taking bites even though the cake itself was a bit dry. Some of the new items were hit or miss but I do commend them for trying to change things up. I don't see many restaurants try to add new items so I appreciate that! $29.99 for ayce. For an all you can eat place we really enjoy the variety of options offered here. I think it's other ayce competitor has better meat quality but we like PK shabu for their large veggie and buffet options. Honestly with the price of inflation, buying all the ingredients for hot pot could add up to the same or more than going out nowadays for ayce hot pot. This is one of the spots we go to on rotation. I've gone here twice. First time was okay - I always struggle to get a good grasp on a place the first time I go. The second time I went, though - wow. First of all, a roll of sushi is included with the all you can eat. The sushi roll is HUGE and it's GOOD. I got a Rainbow Roll. It will fill you up!! It's the size of 2 rolls elsewhere, I swear. I decided to do the Tom Yum broth instead of the house broth (it's good - just boring) and I was blown away. The glass noodles, the rice cakes, the shrimp, the rice... Everything was good and the broth really accentuated the flavor of everything with how bright it was. Unlike other hotpot places, lamb is not an upcharge. It is okay with the house broth but it's *delicious* with the tom yum broth. It was pretty busy this time (first time there were maybe only 4 other tables), so service was a little slow, and they only touched our table three or four times. But that's fine. The servers were all very friendly and the only thing I was ever really in want of was another water bottle for the table - which we did get after a little wait. Super excited to try this. Since we have been exploring these newer places in Arizona. The inside of the restaurant was very clean and presentable. Based on that we where super excited to eat. We had 2 kids and 3 adults. The price kids depending on their height. So it was interesting when they sat us down, that they didn't measure them, we simply thought that they would do it later. We were some of the last people to be sat for the night, and had to wait about 10 min for a seat while no one was waiting, once we sat down, we waited 15 min more for someone to take our order. The food was ok, at best. We ordered miso, spicy and extreme spicy. The extreme spicy, had no tea flavor, it was spicy. And that's that. Everyone's food, was "meh" at best. The ingredients were plentiful, however the menu is confusing, there are estar changers for items that they have on the buffet. No one explained anything about how that was put together. The worst part of the night was when we tried to pay for the bill, they also wanted to charge us for 5 adults, and then the server had to go and ask the manager to change the bill. With a big group with different tastes, having individual soup pots was pretty nice! They offer an EXTENSIVE selection of veggies, noodles, and seafood at their buffet so you can definitely get your money's worth. We went on a Saturday night, and we were told that they do not offer the a-la-carte shabu shabu option at that time and are only serving AYCE hot pot. It was a bit confusing as some of the menus were crossed out with a marker, and some were not. Our server was also SO nice with explaining the process and taking care of us despite how busy it got. Think of this place as a DIY build your own soup. There's a buffet of vegetables, meats and sauces and noodles. You get to choose what flavor of broth, they have a house broth which is probably a general pick. And you get to choose meats. I believe at dinnertime it is 4 kinds of meats. There is also different kinds of fish and a wall of ramen noodles. Some tips: don't overload your plate with vegetables or meat. Pick around 3-4 vegetables and one or two kinds of fish- since you are also getting meat. There are sauces to vamp up your broth. There's a good chili garlic one that is great and others, like teriyaki sauce, etc. Also- if your broth is steaming hot, let your items boil for about 3 minutes, then turn it down and let it cool down for about 5 minutes. You can definitely burn yourself if you leave it boiling for too long. Next time I might add some ramen and some fish with vegetables. Also- it is a big bowl of broth so i had a hard time finishing it. So less is better on items to get- but get items that can be pricier, like the fish or crab. I would definitely come back again, knowing what to do this time around. I knocked out a star because the tables are small. The only reason I cannot give this 5 stars is because of the werid smell in this place and the bathrooms smelled horrible. Everything was super clean so I am not sure what was going on with the smell. We came in and were not sure what to do, our server seemed annoyed but shortly after another server came and was awesome about answering our questions. We ordered the brisket and three hot pots and were blown away by the flavors we experienced. All of the veggies were perfectly cleaned and ripe to go. This is the best hot pot place I've been to. They have a lot of options for broth. And I do enjoy that each person gets their own hot pot instead of one big hotpot in case you like different spice levels, etc. They have a huge all you can eat buffet for food you can enjoy in your hotpot. The main meats get delivered to your table but you get to choose what all you want to go with it. There are SO many super fresh vegetables and sea food as well as pot stickers and other items. The service is really good. Way way better than other hotpot's in the area. Very good service. The place is overall very clean. The ONE reason I deducted a star is because the entire complex has an issue with the plumbing. They really need to figure it out because the bathrooms smell HORRIBLE. I remember coming here years ago and this wasn't a problem. But one of my friends couldn't even use the restroom it smelled so bad. And the general restaurant DID have a sewage smell.
