Plow is my favorite cafe for brunch in all of San Francisco. I've been here twice now, and the food and service are consistently excellent. The first time I came here was on a weekend, and it was over a 30 minute wait. The second time I came here, was Friday last week, around 7:30ish. There were already people inside, but a few tables were empty, so we snagged one straight away. My go to coffee is usually a latte, but they don't do hand pulled coffees here, only drip. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast sandwich, which he said he was good. I had the custard French toast, which was beyond delicious. There was an option for two or three pieces. I went with two pieces and couldn't finish. The toast was on two pieces of pain de mie bread, and was soft and fell apart as I poured the maple syrup over it. The accompanying custard and poached apples that came with the French toast complemented it perfectly. Very happy with my meals here both times, and will be back whenever I visit San Francisco. read more

Plow - cute spot, if you go early the wait is only 20-30 minutes usually (before 10 am). The food is 4.5 stars, service is 3.5ish which makes it 4 stars for me. They will only seat you if your party is completely there and will then give your table to someone else and then it seems like they bump you to the bottom of the list even if your party is complete after that? Anyway, it was weird and the hostess would say we had to wait cause our party wasn't complete which I understand but she would say it over and over again which kind of seemed like she was annoyed with it or was rubbing it in. We were seated in the back and no one really came to check on us which was fine, but a little strange to me cause that isn't really how most restaurants function. I like the space and open kitchen concept. Light and full of windows. It can get a little loud though. I ordered the prosciutto and gruyere toast which was delicious - it came with some greens and an egg on top and potatoes on the side. The chorizo scramble flavors were great, but the corn tortillas were just generic and plain and the black beans had no flavor whatsoever. The French toast was amazing - custard-y and the cream on top was amazing. Their biscuits with honey butter are to die for. Get it. Overall - food is good, service is ok. The wait was about 1.5 hr on Saturday late morning. I don't think the food was worth the wait but the food was still good. They don't take reservations so you have to stand around and wait for your name to get called. I got the soft scrambled eggs (no butter or cheese), my boyfriend and his friend both got the chicken rancheros (I forget the exact name of the dish but it was something similar to this), and the last friend had the breakfast sandwich. My eggs were ok...I know I lost a lot of the flavors from the butter and cheese so my eggs weren't very flavorful. The plow potatoes were really good though. The chicken rancheros were good but not amazing. And the breakfast sandwich was also good. Our friend said the sandwich would have been better if there was ham or bacon that automatically came with the sandwich...with just the egg as protein, it wasn't super filling. This review is for the people that bring pets to the restaurant. Unfortunately, this location is very small and as said in another review a bit over hyped for a brunch restaurant. When we signed in we were told it would be an hour. So we waited. An hour went by and no call. My party and I decided to wait until they called the people that were there before us. As soon as they all went in we were worried, as we hadn't gotten called. When we asked them how much longer for us to get seated, they said another 20mins. However, they kept seating people without pets outside and no one was leaving.. which made us wait longer than 30mins. The restaurant closes at 2pm and we were seated at 1:40pm when we had gotten there at 11:30am. Finally being seated, we ordered food and were told everything had to be ordered at the same time or else we couldn't order. Which we were confused why that was said. When the food came we were not impressed it was basic breakfast nothing special. We got the plow as recommend. My boyfriend wanted to order more food as he was still hungry and the server told him he couldn't place anymore orders. They had already closed the kitchen since the restaurant closed at 2pm. We wished he would've communicated that directly or did a last call on food as we were unaware. Overall it was not a good experience. We felt that because we had a pet it was delaying us from getting seated. They should have the out door seating only for people coming to them with pets as they are "pet friendly". A friend and I do weekly breakfast catch-up sessions, and decided to check out Plow one week. We went on a weekday, so there was no wait and were able to get seated immediately. It's located in Dogpatch, and the interior has so much light with their large windows (which I absolutely love!). My friend and I split the plow, and added an extra lemon ricotta pancake on the side. The plow comes with 2 eggs, 2 lemon ricotta pancakes, plow potatoes, and the choice of pork sausage patties, bacon, or chicken apple sausage. We ended up sticking with the Nueske's bacon. The eggs and bacon were good, but what really made the meal was the lemon ricotta pancakes and the plow potatoes. The lemon ricotta pancakes were so light and fluffy, and had the right amount of lemon ricotta taste. It also wasn't too sweet, which I really liked. The plow potatoes were made to perfection..the perfect amount of crispiness and seasoned well. Honestly the best potatoes I've had in SF. The amount was perfect for my friend and me, and we were both happily stuffed. Plow is on the pricier side for breakfast/brunch, but also pretty typical pricing for SF. The service was great. Sure it's enjoyable and really beautiful to dine in with high ceilings and lots of natural light, but especially given the wait, the hype, and the price, it left me wanting a bit more. I went with the plow because it has their name on it and I couldn't decide what to go so as mine as we'll try a bit of everything. Yes the potatoes are dope, the crispness and the seasoning are lovely, but it loses its flair after a few of them. It could use a nice a nice homemade sauce: I asked and they have a garlic aioli which is a solid option. The house made sausage is super juicy and tender, but not the most exciting flavors. The pancakes are super fluffy and if lemon ricotta is your thing, then you'll love them. They were a bit overpowering for me, but thankfully the maple syrup helped balance it out a bit. I have to be honest - I was so so so excited to visit Plow and was expecting the really long lines for brunch on a Saturday morning, but I didn't expect the rudeness we received from one of the people at the front (a guy with a mask with lots of smiley faces on it). My friend and I put our names on the waitlist and set a timer for 30 min just to walk the block and come back after half an hour just to make sure they hadn't removed our names (as restaurants tend to do sometimes), and the guy at the front very condescendingly asked us how we were back so soon and repeated that question over and over, then made a grand show of using his finger to slowly point at and count all the names still ahead of us on the pages, one by one, until the third / fourth page, where he dramatically told us that "an hour and a half is an hour and a half" several times very unnecessarily, even after we explained we were just checking to see if we were still on the list and to get a quick time check. All we wanted was to make sure we were still on schedule, and we were actually about to compliment his mask until he was so rude to us. Maybe he was having a bad day but it definitely negatively impacted our views of Plow. We ended up going to Parker Potrero just a block away since we were running behind on schedule anyway and were seated in 10 min. I might give Plow another chance one of these days and may update my review, but we were both really put off by his attitude that weekend. I'm a little indifferent about this place, and I wanted to like it because it had such good reviews and I've seen people rave about it on Tik Tok. I came on a Saturday morning and was quoted about an 1.45hr - 2hr wait, which is fine because we expected a long wait for this place anyways. Luckily there was a cute coffee shop just down the street we were able to get coffee at. You'll notice a lot of parties will put their name down, but down show up or come back so the wait ends up being shorter. All in all, we waited about 50 mins until we were seated. Now this is where I'm indifferent.. I don't feel that the food was anything spectacular? I ordered the plow with sausage patties and my friend ordered the eggs benedict with spinach + mushrooms. The food was okay, but I do believe there's much better brunch places in the city than all the hype this place gets. Don't get me wrong, the inside of this place is cute (but small) and we had good service, but overall it's overrated. Maybe I should have ordered something different? Had a very long wait (Sunday 11am was told to prepare for 45 min wait, but was closer to an hour) but I'm glad I stuck around. Once I had a table service was friendly and efficient. I had simple order lemon ricotta pancakes, side of bacon and coffee. Everything was perfect! I'd say the pancakes were the best I've ever had. Perfectly fluffy and great flavor. Sometimes you want to drown your pancakes in maple syrup because they don't taste so great, but these you could easily enjoy without any syrup (but they're also served with a great pure maple syrup anyway). Bacon was yummy and crispy without being dry or overcooked, and was also a good sized serving for ~$6 (I think about 5 small rashers from memory). I wish I had appetite to eat more, because everything coming out from the kitchen looked really good. read more

My all-time favorite brunch place! I take friends from out of town here all the time (if they're here in SF during the week). Downside - there's usually a long wait. On the weekends, expect to wait up to 2 hours! On the weekdays, the wait is about 30 minutes. Do I think it's worth it? YES If you've never been here, be sure to get the Plow. I usually don't like breakfast foods all that much, but the Plow sure does it for me! With lemon pancakes, sausage (or bacon), eggs done your way, and potatoes, the Plow has everything you could possibly want! If you want to eat something a bit lower calorie, the chia seed pudding is also good, but not very filling. Get that if you're not hungry and something on the side in addition to that if you are. There's indoor seating and outdoor seating. If you choose outdoor seating, they also offer warm blankets for you to use. The staff here (in my experience) are very kind and friendly. service: came here on a tuesday afternoon, the hostess (was wearing red quarter zip and had curly hair that was tied up) was incredibly rude. she wasn't welcoming nor accommodating at all--not sure if that's the first impression you want to make at a restaurant. it's like she was annoyed that people were at the restaurant and that she had to actually work. i tried to ask if we could move seats to sit in the sun (prior to us having ordered anything even) and she looked at me like i was inconveniencing her even though there wasn't a line or anyone waiting and there was an open table. there were literally a million and one other ways she could've responded to me but instead she chose to be really cold and rude. honestly ruined my appetite and my mood before i made the walk back to sit down where i didn't feel comfortable sitting, let alone eating. the only thing i regret is not getting up and walking out. food: maybe the hostess ruined it for me but after reading all the reviews and seeing photos and my partner raving about this place, i was super excited. but, it's honestly mid. the french toast wasn't anything special but the chicken sausage was really good. don't think i'll be trying this place again cuz i don't wanna run into red 1/4 zip girl before i eat at any establishment lol read more

After living in SF for 7 years, I finally made it to Plow. Don't ask me why it took so long. But I finally did it. My husband and I braved the experience by queueing up before 7:30AM to ensure that we were in the first wave of seating once they opened. I suppose a true San Franciscan would have braved the epic line later on in the day, but I've got more important things to do than sit around and wait. I had The Plow with their house made pork sausage patties, along with two lemon ricotta pancakes and their famous Plow potatoes. Out of the three items that were on the plate, I probably enjoyed the pancakes the most, with the potatoes coming in a close second. The sausage patties were good, but maybe just a tad too salty for me. My husband had the French Toast and we essentially ate in total silence. Neither of us wanted to share any of our dishes, which usually means it's truly delicious and worth keeping close to the vest. Do I think waiting for Plow is worth it? I've found another very mediocre, over-hyped brunch place in SF! I came here on a recommendation of a friend. This isn't to say that this place tastes bad, it's just nothing special compared to the other numerous brunch places in SF, none of them being particularly memorable. They're all more or less "normal" bland breakfast food. Mediocre or average is probably the best word. Actually, they're probably worse due to the extremely long wait. I'd say it is not worth most people's time to wait 2-3 hours on a beautiful weekend to eat here. We came here on a Monday afternoon, close to 2pm, and there was still a bit of wait of about 15 minutes (I've tried to come here once before for weekend brunch. The wait was over 2 hours so I left). I got "The Plow," which was eggs, bacon, lemon pancakes, and potatoes. Nothing to write home about; how can you mess up this kind of food?! The food tastes exactly like how you'd imagine it to taste. You can probably make the same thing at home for a fraction of the price. The lemon pancakes are a little bit special, I guess you don't find them often. The meat was the perfect savory complement to the LEMON RICOTTA PANCAKES, which were so fluffy and soft that they melted in your mouth. You didn't even need to chew. I'm not the biggest fan of pancakes, but I really would get a plate of just these. Don't let their size fool you! They are smaller, but they are really dense. Their potatoes are garlicky and well seasoned with the perfect crisp around the edges! This plate has everything you need for a full breakfast or brunch! + CHIA SEED PUDDING ($9.25): I also got this because I wanted to feel good about myself, and this is a solid option if you have a sensitive stomach or are not that hungry! The chia seeds are soaked in almond milk and topped with coconut, blood orange, raw almonds, bee pollen, hemp seeds, and honey. It is the perfect blend of sweet, sour, and savory. I normally wouldn't like to sit at the bar for brunch, but we did not regret it. I loved my Plow experience. Plow is located in a well off San Fran neighborhood. It was great to eat in a neighborhood and not down town. It is located at the end of a street that had such a steep hill, it was a challenge to myself to walk it after breakfast. We walked to the neighborhood convience store while we waited. We were adventurous stating we would take first available including sharing with strangers. We got sat outside but I was so cold I ask to change my mind for inside. The hostes was sweet and kind and sat us inside right away. It's a really small space, about the size of a living room inside. There is a counter to sit. The music was awesome. Our awesomely sweet waitress (slim, brown skin) said she chooses the playlist that day and it was perfect. Destiny child's playlist was a vibe. Food: the biscuit was the best darn busicit I've had in a long while. The biscuit was soft, sweet with some sort of sweet crytilized sugar on top. My goodness it was delicious. It better have been, as it was $5 for one. The potatoes were the best! Crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Season with perfection. I ordered the French toast. It was good. It didnt change my life like the biscuit but good. I liked the pears on top, nice change from strawberries. The issue was it was just a little to sauggy in the middle. The Apple chicken sausage was very good. Meer ordered the oatmeal pancakes. They were okay. One down fall: my husband and I paid the bill. About 4 to 5 minutes later, the bus person came and said, "Can you leave the table. There are people who need to sit." I was instantly confused. For a $60 to $70 breakfast, I wish we could have finished our thought. I read this on yelp. It really doesn't feel good. I was really excited for the famous lemon ricotta pancakes, but surprisingly it was my least favorite thing that I tried; the lemon flavor was good and they were pretty fluffy/soft but still not good enough to justify 3 pancakes for $16 in my opinion. By far the standout of the meal was the BUTTERMILK BISCUIT! I love baked goods of all types and I've had more than my fair share of biscuits but this is definitely leagues above any other biscuit I've ever eaten in my life. It's SO flakey and buttery and delicious and pairs AMAZINGLY with the honey butter for an ultra decadent experience. The outer crust is so perfect and the inside is so soft and warm; next time I come to Plow I'm literally just ordering like 5 of these biscuits and calling it a day. Plow is a very popular breakfast/brunch joint in the hipster area of Portero Hill. It gets pretty busy in the mornings and waits can be up to 1 hour or longer. There's something for everyone on the menu. I had the granola and yogurt which wasn't that special - just some yogurt topped with granola, berries, and plum. Husband had the plow which was eggs, potatoes, toast, and choice of meat. Our server recommended the sausage patties which he enjoyed. Order the coffee if you need to wake up. Imagine yourself paying 15 dollars for 2 eggs on a bun. Now, imagine paying 4 dollars for some add-on bacon. So now you have a 19 dollar egg bacon sandwich with a side of potatoes that won't quite fill you up. Next, remember the anguish and irritability that comes with asking for extra guac at Chipotle. Take that emotion and now compare it to the 4 dollars that Plow makes you pay for half of an avocado. So finally you have a 23 dollar sandwich that gets you thinking: I could've made this at home for less than half the price! Now I completely understand that SF is extremely tough on its restaurants and causes prices to be rise due to their high rent rate on business owners. However, when you can buy a Banh Mi at Saigon Sandwich for under 5 dollars that tastes so much better, you might want to rethink your sandwich decision. Maybe I should try giving the other menu items a try to give Plow another chance, but as of yet, it was just another overhyped brunch restaurant along with the likes of Mama's on Washington Square. read more

The homemade sausage had a lot of fennel seeds so the taste was very distinct and strong. I thought it was ok, but worth trying at least since it's made in house. The ricotta pancakes were good and so were the potatoes! Was not too big of a fan of the goat cheese and shiitake mushroom combo. The prosciutto toast was really good though! I've come for brunch at Plow many times, and the line on weekends is always very long (1+ hour). I'm not totally sure why that is, because while Plow is delicious, the food is pretty standard brunch fare. The best thing at Plow is by far the biscuit - notably, the apple honey butter that it comes with. I always order this every time, and most friends that I've recommended it to have also loved the butter. Most of Plow's brunch options are some combination of eggs, sausages, toast, and potatoes. I usually order the two egg brekkie, which is eggs, sausages, potatoes, and toast. My boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs, which was really delicious and possibly my new favorite item at Plow! The coffee is quite bad and I wouldn't recommend it. Overall, I was enamored with Plow when I first came, mostly because it's comfortable breakfast food and also because the biscuit is so good, but having visited more brunch spots in SF, I now think there are better options with less wait, but the biscuit and butter here remain unbeat in my book! read more

The BEST breakfast/brunch spot in the city, and it's open everyday! There's always a wait, and the wait is worth it. I hate getting up early, and waiting even longer to eat but for Plow, no wait is too long. But if you really don't want to wait 2+ hours, I would go on the weekday if possible. On any weekday I've had to wait between 15-45 minutes, usually gets longer during lunch time. Time to talk about the food, but whatever you get it'll be delicious! Food: POTATOES: best damn house potatoes ever. So crispy, and they fry up bits of onions with it! If you leave without eating these, you haven't really tried Plow. Grapefruit mimosa: Probably also another thing they do best. Wish they made these bottomless but since they're not I have a reason to keep going back! Soft scramble(favorite): shiitake mushrooms, spinach, feta or goat cheese(can't remember). And it already comes with house potatoes! Custard French toast: currently with apples, FREAKING DELICIOUS. Didn't like it when I tried it awhile back when they made it with strawberries. But the apples add a nice crunch, and it's the perfect sweetness! House made sausage patties: just get these, either as a side or if you order "the plow" make sure to get these. Pro tip: don't be afraid to sit outside if it's a little windy. Plow wasn't anything mind blowing, but pretty tasty nonetheless! The plow is a great choice if it's your first time here. You get to try a little of everything and I had some leftovers to bring home. I ordered the plow with: - Over medium eggs: Crispy whites with slightly runny yolks! I've started ordering my eggs over medium ever since I've had them at Plow. - House made pork parties: I was disappointed that the pork patties were dry. Eat them with your egg yolks and some hot sauce to make up for the dryness. - Plow potatoes: So crispy and well seasoned. Everything you'd hope for in breakfast potatoes. - Lemon ricotta pancakes: The right amount of lemon/tartness. Would consider sharing a full order of these if I ever returned. Service here is great, everyone is friendly (despite how busy they are) without being overbearing. Plow was definitely satisfying, but not sure that it's worth waiting hours to try. Plow My partner and I came here on a Friday morning and it took about 10 minutes to get seated. We almost ordered 5 minutes after and the food came by really quick. Food: We ordered The Plow and the Smoked Salmon Toast. The waitress assured that our meals will be a pack full and she was right. The Smoked Salmon Toast was very satisfying and included 4 pieces of fried toast, fresh cucumbers, capers, cheese, and pickeled cabbage and a side of salad. It was an food orgy in my mouth. The Plow's potatoes were my favourite due to the crispness and richness in spices. The lemon ricotta pancakes immediately impressed me because it wasn't tarty but it was a comfortable lemony flavour with a delicious center. The chicken sausages complimented the eggs. My breakfast needs were fulfilled. We were kind of crazy to order a coconut mochi cake for starters.. Delicious brunch spot. The line here is always incredibly long, but Farley's is super close by (1/2 block away) so we just put our name down and waited at Farley's instead of waiting outside in the cold. The staff are very accommodating though so you can ask them for hot water/tea/coffee while waiting to be seated. I have never been disappointed with any dish we got. This time, we ordered the chicory salad, eggs benedict with ham, and the open-faced proscuitto + gruyere toast. The chicory salad was so fresh - with pomegranates and persimmon. The eggs benedict and hollandaise sauce went well together, and the english muffin was crispy and soft at the same time. I have ordered something different each time and have not been disappointed. After brunch, we usually make a trip out to Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous (a few blocks down on 23rd street) to top off the meal with yummy ice cream. If I had all the time in the world, I would eat here multiple times a week. However, the long line is a pretty big deterrent. read more

In one sentence: it lives up to the hype. I'd heard people say Plow was good but not as good as you'd think from the long wait times and the rave reviews; you're free to believe them, but you should definitely try it at least once! A note: we had a party of 5 and put our names in line around 9:30am on a Tuesday, so your mileage my vary, but we waited for around 25 min before getting seated. The food was great across the table: our group had two orders of "the plow", which came with eggs, delicious lemon ricotta pancakes, and their signature home fries/"plow" potatoes. We also got the dungeness scramble and chinese scramble (which I think are both seasonal), and both were very tasty (the dungeness crab in the scrambled eggs was paired with creme fraiche, a great combo). We also got an order of the custard french toast, which was good but a bit on the heavy side with the custard and mascarpone cheese for her taste. Overall, the food is worth the wait, which is mostly due to the relatively small number of tables and the lack of reservations. The small interior might be a little cramped for some, but it also provides a cozy atmosphere for conversations over some really great breakfast food! read more

The first thing I will say is be prepared for a long wait. We went in Sunday (aka brunch day) so the 90 minute wait wasn't a surprise. Based on the glowing meal reviews seemed like it would be worth it. The place itself is small, but very nice. The staff is very pleasant and attentive. I gave three stars because the food is average. The house made sausage was a bit bland, the lemon ricotta pancakes were okay, and the eggs were simply eggs. I will say the potatoes are pretty good. Also, the fresh squeezed orange juice was perfection! All in all, an okay brunch location. If I were with someone who suggested Plow as the brunch spot I wouldn't object; however, it would not be on my list of suggestions if I were to pick the location. read more
