People seem to RAVE about this place, but I didn't really didn't see anything special here... This somewhat reminded me of a Poke version of Chipotle. You basically just tell the person what all you want in your Poke Bowl and they throw it all together in a big sloppy concoction (fast food sushi). Flavor was good/okay but nothing I would rave about. The fish did not seem very high quality and some bites even tasted pretty fishy (pun intended). But seriously, sushi should taste like fish to a degree... but some pieces had a strong unappealing overly-fishy flavor. The pieces of fish themselves were also HUGE/THICK. I think the total amount of fish was good, but I would have preferred they cut the pieces into smaller individual chunks. Some of the bites were even chewy and unappealing. Finally, if you order a bowl to-go, they structure it very inefficiently. Meaning, it's hard to mix all of the ingredients together. What you end up with is a deconstructed poke bowl with layers of each. So unless you like eating each ingredient in a particular order, you'll need to mix your bowl up yourself. If you are used to good quality sushi (Uchi, Kome, Otoko, etc), this probably isn't your place. If you like places like Sushi Zushi and How Do You Roll, go right ahead. It's essentially fast food sushi. ***also, similar to what some other reviews have said, the place seemed to have some sanitation issues and wasn't to appealing to watch being made*** read more

By far my favorite poke place in Austin!! Although it's a little small and parking is cramped, the quality and size of the fish here is fantastic. My go to is always the salmon. I enjoy how they don't over fill your meal with rice or other toppings. I haven't been to Hawaii myself to try the poke there, but my friends who have says it's very similar. I also get extra spicy mayo on the side because I like my poke with more sauce. The only reason why I'm giving Poke poke 4 stars is because of their price. I find it more on the expensive side, but they do have $2 off a poke bowl during happy hour. As for the space, they have a beautifully painted mural I can see lots of people taking photos with. This place is super good. I think it's better than the Poke Pop-up stops here in Houston. Their place is very easy to miss because their is no sign except on their patio umbrellas. (From what I saw.) The cashier was very helpful to us and we ordered the Spicy Salmon Poke with Kale, Seaweed, Masago, and Carrots over steam rice. In my opinion, I believe it tastes better without the rice, and even though the big looks small, it fills you up. I couldn't even finish mine. Austin needs more restaurants like this! Hawaiian poke quickly became one of my favorite plates while visiting the islands. Even the grocery stores in Hawaii sell it by pound and it's all very delicious there. I was delightfully surprised how consistent the flavor was and fresh the fish tasted right here in Austin Texas. While the fish isn't marinated over night like it is in Hawaii, the a-la-carte ordering makes up for it cause you can literally add any ingredients you like. I ordered the large original and asked if I could have half made with wasabi. They were happy to accommodate the order and I will definitely be returning to one of my new local favorites. read more

I've given this spot a few trials now and each time I've had it has had some improvements but def not as good as the poke places out west. I have been having the Aloha poke bowl with different toppings but should prob try out the salmon version. I am very glad that this place exists here and it is very fresh, just still very inconsistent. The tuna chunks are sometimes too big and there's still fibers that make it difficult to chew and in turn, a bit unappetizing. Overall it's a great addition to the neighborhood but i hope consistency gets a bit better. Will try one of the other proteins out. read more

Grabbed a quick lunch at poke poke, I got the JT Spicy Poke, it was amazing! The fish tasted quite fresh, jalapeños were crispy and spicy. The serving size was perfect, I got the small. I've been there about 5 times, and it's pretty good. They don't have ice for their water which is odd for how hot it is. The first time I ate there I opted to sit outside and a homeless person snuck up behind me, and yelled at me. I never sat outside again. Today I got my food to go, ate it as soon as I got home. More than half of my tuna was chewy, and I ended up spitting it out. I added avocado for $2.00 and there were maybe 5 pieces the size of my pinky nail. I was left still hungry, and grossed out. I've worked in the service industry and I understand things happen. I would appreciate an explanation for my poor experience. At this point, this experience might be enough for me to try a new Poke place. read more

Cons - portion size is tiny (I should have how to a restaurant and gotten an entire meal), rice was undercooked. Parking is tight - luckily I arrived at low peak time and for easy parking. Love this menu! It does poke in Texas justice. Definitely reminiscent of food trucks off the road in Hawaii. Always fresh fish. Probably the freshest I've had in ATX. Makes it worth the $14-$17 meal. My only gripe with this place is the setup is eh. They get really slammed and you can tell the kitchen staff is struggling to keep up (cannot blame them though, it gets crazy during rush hour) and then seating is just not ideal. Also, I guess the beers are a lil overpriced for canned beer at such a casual spot. If the setup is going to stay the same, it warrants a $4 beer. read more
