Came here for their grand opening BOGO deal and I am so happy I was the second person in line. The wait was just exponentially getting longer since every customer was ordering 2 bowls. Anyways, I got 2 of the customized bowls and was pretty happy with the meal. The fish was fresh and they did not skip out on that. There was a good mix of the rice, toppings, fish and veggies. Of course, if your customized bowl sucked, go for their specialty bowls which are essentially made for you. I thought the store manager could have taken peoples order in line to try to make the line go faster, but I guess a long line is inevitable for a BOGO poke deal. The store is not really a restaurant since there is literally no indoor seating. Things can get cramped pretty easily since the shop is narrow. Outdoor seating is an option though. This was sadly not good and I wouldn't recommend. Ridiculously small portion size and barely any of the selected ingredients, and the sweet shoyu was way too thick it's more like teriyaki sauce and not sweet nor soy sauce, and there were barely any other of the selected ingredients whatsoever. They also had an option to grill the protein which I selected yet they did not do it. Side note that maybe isn't a huge deal is that the wasabi is a very strange abnormal color. read more

I've been to a couple poke places and they've all been so good! So I didn't really expect this to be much different. While we currently have some restrictions given the take-out only operation, I didn't think that it would have too much impact for a place that's really designed to be fast. I order the the ahi with lots of toppings. The order came in a brown bag and was done in about 5-10 minutes. The portions are really small. I was actually pretty hungry when I ordered, and by the time I was done eating, I was still hungry. I think most of it was leafy salad with minimal seafood and sprinkles of other toppings. It's disappointing compared to the large portion sizes I get elsewhere for the same price point. There were also less selection than other places, and I felt like I could not order too much items. Other places allowed me to pile on whatever I wanted, sauces, toppings, etc. I would try again if the portion sizes are significantly bigger - I want to feel full after a meal. I've tried some other poke spots but today was my first time at this joint. I arrived at roughly 12pm and was surprised to see it packed in the front lobby, with long sheets of paper stacked up in what I would assume to be the orders. I probably would've left given how long it looked like I might have to wait, but in the end my craving for poke was simply too irresistible, and I gave in to the hunger. The service was quite exceptional, something I was not expecting given the other reviews I had seen online. The lady taking my order, Maria, was very friendly and patient in the entire process and informing me about LevelUp (which I will use next time). As someone who's worked in a restaurant before, I understand what it's like when it gets to rush hour. But it looked more like a slaughterhouse in Pokeworks. The entire lobby was completely filled in a very small area, something I've never seen at other poke spots.The employees were sweating; 3 people worked together on the bowls, with lots of communication and almost no one stopping at all. There were some impatient customers who repeatedly harassed the staff for their orders, frantically waving their phones in the air, like simps from the Simpsons, the unfortunate anomaly that is encountered no matter where you go. I felt quite bad for the staff that was so clearly overwhelmed, but they actually managed to stay calm and did their best to accommodate everyone. There was one employee, who I believe was named Christian, who was constantly interacting with customers and sorting through finished and unfinished orders. After about 10 minutes, I let the staff know I was going to be out for a bit, and they gave me an okay. I came back about 10 minutes later (total 20 min wait time) and my order was already ready! The bowl was excellent. Really liked the mushy spicy salmon mixed in with regular salmon, and the toppings I had were given in copious amounts. The sauces I ordered were the Pokeworks Classic and sriracha aioli, which created a delicious mix. Classic sauce is always #1. And all that for $11. Nearly forgot about wasabi with all the raw fish I ordered, which would've been bad news later on. TLDR; Spectacular & friendly service and delicious food. Would definitely recommend as a top spot for poke in the Bay Area. read more

Employees seem to know their stuff, though it would be helpful if they asked/reminded me if I wanted miso soup when I order -- I tend to forget until I'm on my way out. There's seating outside only, but inside, there's not even a convenient place to wait for your order. People are always saying "excuse me," "sorry," "go ahead" to each other. And they're ALWAYS out of lotus chips. I love lotus chips! Ah well. Honestly, for a healthy and filling meal, it's hard to beat a poke salad. Pretty disappointed overall. It seemed like it would be great because it had all the ingredients you could ever hope for in a poke bowl. Unfortunately the flavours fell flat and it tasted pretty bland. Not sure how this is possible given that I added so many ingredients to my bowl and you'd think the combination of these ingredients would lead to something good. I think just a bit more salt could really improve the taste. Same with the sauces - nothing as exciting as other poke restaurants. The fish did taste fresh though. Another downside is that you can't see the ingredients while you're ordering, as bowls are assembled at a counter a bit away from the cash. Prices are on the higher end for a large bowl. It's recommended to use the iPad to order; otherwise, you will be rambling off your order for a solid 5 minutes, the way I did. Space is small (~6 seats ish?). Takeout is the way to go. They have tons of toppings to choose from and their sauces are also unique. I usually order the large poke salad with sous vide chicken, tofu, and scallop. I revisited Pokeworks because one visit (particularly on a slower day) does not always reflect the standard that the establishment upholds. Also, the manager reached out to apologize for the experience, and offered a bowl on the house, I wanted to give the place a chance at authentic service, so i decided not to let them know of my prior visit. We came on a Sunday, around dinner time, but we didn't expect them to be all that busy. Which they weren't, and I did notice that the cashiers were a bit more outgoing/social with their incoming guests, and offering to take orders. That was different than my first trip here. We still opted to use the iPads - especially since they have a variety of toppings that aren't carried at other poke places. We wanted to take our time, and that's what the iPad seems to be for. That said, don't get carried away, because even with 2 iPads and a cashier - this place is very very compact. There's not a lot of available standing room, which seems to add to the impatience of other guests waiting to order. I got a few different ingredients this time - mango, cilantro, and avocado (extra for $1.50 - a bit pricier than at other places, as well) which are not common at other poke places! On top of that, they don't have a quota for their free toppings. Some of them are marked up, which makes sense -- like avocado -- but some of the others that had price increases seemed a little out of place. they have a lot of "crunchy" toppings and some of the more uncommon ones had a mark up. I cant even remember all the toppings they offer, just because of the sheer volume. I do think that helps differentiate them, but I was a little less than thrilled to see the portions they use for their toppings. Avocado was the standard 1-scoop size - but the mango was very scarce, as well as the cilantro (which I wouldn't think is something they'd skimp on). Their imitation crab *still* had a very fishy taste, so next time, I will certainly pass. Their default free toppings are seaweed salad (nice, because most places have this as an 'add-on') and imitation crab. You can adjust the sauce options, (light, medium heavy) and i found their "light" was just right. Their ponzu was also super flavorful and went with my toppings very very nicely. My one fuss, if I had to highlight just one (lol) was that I didn't have the option to select half rice half greens. They give too much rice for my liking (especially compared to the fish/toppings) and if I wanted something lighter... I do not have that option, unless I get a salad. Note to Pokeworks - please make this a thing. It can get a little overwhelming when you order, because of all the different sections and options but at the end of it, their fish was extremely fresh and flavorful. Fortunately, my bf really liked his combination and his toppings as well. He's actually pickier than I am so that's saying something. I would go back if I'm in the area, but I won't go out of my way for it. read more

Food: The ingredients are fresh, the flavor is great, proportions are adequate. Lots of variety of flavors to choose from, the menu will cater to many different palettes. So far I've had the sushi burrito with house sauce, and the poke bowl on salad with srirach aioli. Both were great - burrito was two meals for me (more filling due to rice?), bowl was one. The sriracha aoili was yummy but not spicy enough--thankfully I had jalapenos on there. Also, I was surprised to find when I got back to my office that the bag JUST had the bowl in it (no napkins, no utensils...) so keep that in mind if you are ordering and not going somewhere with utensils available. Location: Convenient by foot or bike/scooter ONLY. Downtown location, so not great to drive to, impossible to find parking especially during lunch rush (this is important - may end up being the deciding factor between doing pickup and delivery in the future). Interior is SMALL but clean and modern. Definitely feels like a grab and go kind of place, not for sitting down to eat. Great downtown vibe if you're into that. Ease of Ordering: They use doordash which you can easily navigate to from their website or you can search them on DD directly. The ordering process is easy, but does not allow for customization. I did notice that while ordering under $35, there is a delivery fee. However there is ALSO a "service fee" under "fees and taxes" when you select delivery, regardless of the amount you order. Not sure whether the service fee is applied by DD or Pokeworks - states "This 11 % service fee helps us operate DoorDash." So it feels like you're getting double charged for a delivery service? Because when you switch to "pickup" it removes both the service fee and the delivery fee (delivery fee applies if you are ordering under $35). So I opted to pick up thinking I'd rather not pay extra, but ended up spending so much time just trying to find a spot that I'm not sure I really came out on top on that one lol. Would order again. I love the food here but I never get a consistent product. I always order extra crab, seaweed and massago qwhich I pay for gladly, but sometimes I get it and sometimes not. Sometimes one and not the other . No kale noodles during covid and I'm ok with that but I ordered some things on the side and got 2 out of three. The wasabi was supposed to be in the side and was in it. I can't remember if the lotus chips are still on the menu but never available . May try some other poke just to compare. I think the other pole place now has kale noodles which is why I come here. read more

It's hard to mess up poke. The only ways are: 1. Having limited toppings or missing toppings 2. Being overpriced / having skimpy portions 3. Not having fresh fish For this shop, 1 and 2 apply. I ordered a large, and for the price you pay at other shops, it seemed like a heck of a lot less poke for your $14. On top of that, 4 or more toppings were out of stock that day... including pickled ginger, lotus root, and several others. Tamago was not even an option, which is a bummer. Water also ran out and they weren't refilling the cooler on an extremely hot day. Otherwise, the ambience is non-existent. You don't get to see them assemble your poke like other shops (which is why they're also much slower than other shops with assembly lines). There's no seating or much room for anything other than the line. Overall, the fish was fresh, but not the best poke I've had from a price, portion, and ambience standpoint by any means. read more

Small space, but plenty of outdoor seating along the lovely Castro St. in downtown MTV. They have tablets that you can use to place your order if you're the anti-social type. You can also be a normal human being and place your order in-person. Scary, I know. I prefer being able to see the ingredients in front of me when I pick in choose. But we live in a time where all poke places have the same basic ingredients, so you already know what you're getting.. Pokeworks did have some unique ingredients like macadamia nuts and yuma chips. The best part was the large chunks of salmon. Honestly, if I were to go back I would just get Salmon for my protein. So good and fresh! The price is a downside. Including tax, it's about $15 for a large bowl. Stop trying to make me broke, yo! read more
