First let's talk about the pies. They are all wonderful and delicious. Their most famous one is their "ban berry" which is basically banana cream pie topped with fresh strawberries. That one is usually available anytime. Their other great own is their chocolate silk which is a pie of just chocolate mousses. That one you have to call ahead. Another great pie is their fresh peach pie that's only available for a few weeks in the summer. Do ask for that one. Now the restaurant itself. It's mostly diner food. Sandwiches soups and salads. Have tried calling in to make a to-go order on 2 separate occasions, last week and tonight, and have not been able to get through. Last week when I called (which was about 6 times over an hour period), the phone would ring about 6 times then hang up. Tonight, I called twice and each time it rang then went to voicemail. Pollys, Dennys, Carrows, Marie Calendars are of similar ilk specializing in typical, middle of the road American fare with a bit of Americanized Mexican tucked in. All these places may appeal to people who expect standardized food no matter where they go. In some ways, Pollys like the others seem to cater to those who eat to live. Food doesn't seem to be one of the central foci of pleasure, but just fuel to add to the fire. I came here to keep my partner company. I wanted to order the fresh Ollalieberry pie that I saw listed on their website. Ordered it, but the waiter told me they didn't have it. They only had the fresh strawberry pie which didn't look too appealing since it seemed over coated with a corn starch, red food coloring infused glaze. So I ordered their Coconut cream pie that looks as though it's store bought from Ralph's. Decent coconut cream with a high factor of chewy shredded coconut, good custard full of sweet condensed milk. Pie crust is standard pâte brisée. Coffee was the preferred beverage of choice to pair with the pie. Pleasant although I suppose I could get a similar pie at a supermarket, but that was not the point. The roasted 1/4 dark meat chicken seemed pretty good. The string beans, however, looked faded mushy green, really over cooked. Edgar, our waiter, was thoughtful by pointing out we could get a better deal by choosing a combo meal which would include the pie. Thanks Edgar for the heads up to save a little money. I came here with my girlfriend on a whim as I had a birthday coupon expiring soon. We had passed by here before but never had the chance to come in and sit down to eat. The environment inside is very folksy and pleasant, and surprisingly busy for a weekday afternoon. Staff were very kind and showed us to our table. Not a complaint as it paired well with the fries as a dipping sauce. For dessert I had their house special, the Banberry Pie; a banana cream with strawberries and a type of jam or jelly smothered on top. Delicious!! For a concept so simple, the taste still knocked it out of the park. The crust was also noticeably tasteful like a sweet bread. Overall it was a delicious Americana style meal, but the prices are just a bit too steep for us to be coming back on the regular. My grandpa loves Pollys, and I am glad there is one located in Fullerton. The 2 for $25 meals are wonderful. I love all of the baked bread, especially the sourdough that comes with the burger. The apple pie is phenomenal. This place is nostalgic for me, as I grew up eating at the Whittier location my whole life. I absolutely love the split pea soup. Or as its called here "Dutch Pea". Not very many places offer pea soup daily, and this one is so delicious! The coupons that come in the mail are great. I really wish they would serve the housemade Kona chips again, because I prefer them over French fries. I also like that I can enjoy an adult beverage or two while I take my grandpa out to eat. Tonight 12/4/2023, I had dinner at Polly's Pies. Chicken was almost burnt - meat was dried. I had to ask to get a new one. The pie I wanted (apricot) was frozen. It would take over an hour to bake! Manager asked how it was and I said it was OK. A good manager would ask for more info. He didn't. The only good thing was corn bread. Waitress didn't know if it's butter or margarine. They are serving indoors again at this location but the service was a bit slow due to not enough servers. They couldn't have been nicer and friendly even though I believe that they're overworked. Service has gone down since my last review. The location is tucked away in a strip mall (planet fitness, goodwill, autozone, etc) We usually come here for desserts. They offer season pies as well as the traditional pies (apple pie, ban berry pie, chocolate pie, etc). Since i'm signed up for the email i usually get coupons and promotions in the mail. today we came in with the intent of using it but the cashier was abrupt and rude.
