I used to eat here with my parents when I was in high school and now my own kids love coming here. They order the pancakes and always surprise us by eating the entire meal. The service here was phenomenal! I think the best I've ever had and my husband and I go out to eat at least once a week. We went here to have lunch with our daughter who lives in Northern NH, while we live in Ma. I am so happy to have picked a great place. The food was good and I loved being able to have breakfast for lunch, although my daughter and husband had regular lunch meals which they said were very good. This is not a fine dining, older building but definitely worth the visit. Excellent food at low price. Try the grilled home fries with your breakfast. The prime rib is great. I come here all the time and it never gets old! Their menu has something for everyone! Breakfast is served all day and the lunch and dinner options are great! I just had the taco salad (a new menu item) and it was awesome; much better that the taco salad from our local Mexican Restaurant in Derry. It was huge and so fresh and included avocado! Two of us ordered the whole clams and scallop platter. The clams had basically no bellies and were over cooked, the scallops were overcooked on the outside and seemed raw on the inside. The waitress ask if we needed anything else and we requested ketchup and vinegar for our fries, she disappeared for quite some time and then comes back to ask if we needed anything, by this time our fries were cold. Waitress was certainly not interested or paying attention to her job. The kicker was the upcharge of $4 for each meal over menu price which she did not inform us of, market price for seafood? We love Poor Boys diner! You can get in pretty quick even on a Sunday morning. Everyone is friendly and the food comes out quick and is always top notch. If you're looking for a fancy place to eat, then Poor Boys is probably not the place for you, but for what it is, the focus has been put in all the right places. Plenty of choices on the menu and prices are pretty fair. Maybe a tick on the high side for a basic breakfast or omelette but worth the price for consistency. Poor Boys is at least a once a month stop for us. Perfect for a family of 4 with an 11 year old and 8 year old. read more

I am giving two stars because I have been here in the past and the servers were always very, very nice. Until the last visit. Recently we went there for breakfast and I ordered the waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. The waffle was large, the size of the plate, but it was topped with hard, cold strawberries and covered with cold whipped cream, so the whole waffle was barely lukewarm. I did try to eat it but even a regular butter knife didn't want to cut through it. I couldn't eat it. The waitress came over and started to clear out plates without even commenting on a nearly untouched breakfast. My husband made a comment about it and she was clearly irritated to be bothered with this. She said she would see what she could do. She came back and rudely said "I'll take 10% off your bill. Wow, how generous. The funny thing is, is that she had this attitude that it was somehow my fault and she was going to give me a break... this time only. She was very rude and never even came back to the table during breakfast or I would have requested something else. She's a young, heavyset woman- we will probably go back but will change tables if she is our server. read more

have been here a few times- friendly staff ,mostly great portions. on several different visits tried the following * meatball sub( great, oozing with cheese , homemade sauce-you can tell by the tiny nuggets of veggies * tatsy meatballs. * lobster roll- bursting with fresh lobster in just the right amount of dressing- hardly any. * fried whole belly clams-again a good portion but they were not really whole belly clams- were something btw. whole and strips. * lobster pie-just awful.got it for take out , had I been at the place when I saw it, I might have sent it back.....a paltry few pieces of dried out lobster served on top of some stove top like stuffing- 21 bucks or so and just incredibly bad. all in all ,a pretty good place but might be best to stay away from anything too far from lunch counter food. read more

Worked in the area for the week and we went here for lunch 3 out of 4 days it was so good. The lobster roll was huge and delicious and they gave you a few options for fries. Most times when we come to Poor Boys for a meal we are looking for some type of comfort food or a burger etc. Our frequency of dining there had dropped of in recent months. Partly because it seemed they had stopped with daily specials. I know it's early in 2017. But Poor Boys has set the bar high for everyone else this year. Such a pleasant surprise to see the daily specials back. Not only specials. But, Scallop Burnaise. Quality you'd expect and demand from Legal Seafood for $30 a plate. $16.99 at Poor Boys. I never have heard of Chicken Chowder, Jalapeño soup. My new favorite soup. My wife has not stopped raving about the Chicken Carbonara. Both dinner plates were generous portions. Best value around. Service always top notch. Can always depend on a friendly greeting and relaxed setting for a meal. They nailed it tonight. By the way. If this review seems excessive in length. It probably exceeds any other review I have posted 10 fold. Only because the entire meal was that GREAT!!! read more

Had breakfast here twice. The first time was great, great food and friendly staff. The second time was not so great. The staff was still friendly, but the meal was terrible. This is the hot spot for about 6 townships around. Great breakfasts, reasonable prices, and the staff is friendly and jovial. Best home fries I've ever had. Our favorite is the "one pound lobster roll dinner" for about $19.95. The wife and I split it, and with a side order of fried belly clams, it is hard to beat. There is something for everybody on their menu. If there is a line, it moves quickly and is worth it. I guess that is probably why there may be a line! Easy access on and off Rte 93 too. read more

Me and the boy stopped in to Poor Boy's last weekend on our way to Pat's Peak. We were absolutely starving and would have probably eaten just about anything, but thankfully, Poor Boy's was located right off the random exit that we took off 93. First, let me advise you to avoid the coffee at all costs. I ordered a hot coffee and the boy ordered an iced coffee and both were absolutely terrible. I choked back maybe 3 sips of mine and had to throw in the towel. Do yourself a favor and stop at Starbucks or anywhere else beforehand to get your java fix! Moving right along, we ordered a buffalo chicken appetizer to start, which was prepared exactly the way I like it. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to meat (especially deep-fried meat) is over-cooking and drying it out, but we did not have to worry about that with this appetizer...the chicken was juicy and the buffalo sauce tasted really good and was not overly-spicy, although I love me some spicy. No complaints there! For entrees, the boy ordered a steak bomb sub with extra bacon and tumbleweeds on the side and I, stupidly, ordered the pot roast. Who the hell eats a huge pot roast "Sunday dinner" on an early Saturday afternoon, right before snowboarding all day...?? Anyway, I started eating my entree, which was completely engulfed in a gravy that I was not a fan of, but was wondering why I couldn't taste any butter in the mashed potatoes or the veggies. The server then brought out "bread and butter"...I took one look and noticed that they gave me packets of margarine, which I absolutely detest and you could not pay me to eat (the shit is plastic). And then it all clicked...I realized I couldn't taste any delicious butter in my meal because there wasn't any - it was that bastardly margarine in my potatoes and veggies!! I could not take another bite...I was completely disgusted!!! I asked my boy how his steak bomb was, knowing he would share it with me since my meal was a total disappointment. He absolutely loved it and offered a bite to me. AWW SHIT!!! Seriously, this steak bomb was RIDIC!! I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was probably the best steak sub I have ever eaten. Juicy and flavorful steak, onions, peppers, salami, bacon, cheese, and the secret ingredient which pulled it all together...chopped tomatoes! Honestly folks, you just gotta eat this thing...I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. Not to mention, the tumbleweeds (thinly-sliced onion rings) that came with it are awesome too! So...all-in-all, I say avoid the coffee, avoid the pot roast, but def indulge in the buffalo chicken and the steak bomb sub. And don't forget thems tumbleweeds! read more

I will never again eat anything but maybe a breakfast at poor boys. The place isn't dirty but the staff was comical. Our waitress either just started that night or she was on something. She would finish your sentences and laugh but she never listened and would come baack at every order to ask us if we can repeat it to her. There was 4 tables and two waitresses. Now being a waitress myself I know sometime the job can be ridiculously hard but this wasn't the case. Then food came!!!! Dundundaaaaa!!!!. Canned food! Yes I said canned. The corn chowder was disqustung slop. It was like a cab of creamed corn and some evaporated milk. The fisj was suppose to be haddock buy it was yellow more like Pollack ot some other cheaper ehite fish.My brocolli was the only fresh item on my plate. Not to mention the bill came to a 126$ for 4 of us. I truly can not believe they can get away with charging the same price for food other restaurants actually prepare and cook. Stopped in on our way to Northern NH. We chose this place based on them having 4 stars. Maybe it was just a bad day, but from the beginning we had to wait 15 minutes to place our order. There was only one other group of 4 at a table and 3 waitresses, all young. So a place run by kids pretty much. They were all sitting at the counter chatting away not even looking over at us to see that we closed our menus and were ready to order. I had to call to her to get her attention. We ordered the appetizer platters and it was not good. The fries were not done, the waitress said it's because they just changed the oil. I understand they would come out light colored but they were just uncooked and not edible. The mozzarella sticks, yuk. The tumble weeds had too much batter and I couldn't taste the onion and they were so greasy. The chicken fingers were edible. I got a fish sandwich and it was a little dry but I ate half of it because I was hungry. My daughter got a grilled cheese w/ FF. She ate half the sandwich but not the fries. So we were done attempting to eat this food and were waiting for her to give us the check of $76 for the 4 of us which would be good if we left satisfied but that's a lot to waste on food we didn't eat much of. Once again though I had to go to the counter to inform her that we were ready for our check. I know I sound impatient but that's not the case. She just didn't acknowledge us. There is a diner across the street, maybe theirs is better. I'd try that one before going here again. read more

My wife, my daughter-in-law and I stopped here for lunch the last week in June. We chose Poor Boys on the recommendation of a business contact who told us that they served the best lobster rolls in the State. A very friendly waitress regcognized us as being strangers and while seating us inquired as to where we were from and how we picked the diner for lunch. When we exclaimed, she confirmed that the lobster rolls were indeed great but that we should not discount their lobster Ceaser salad. We could not find it on the rather dog eared menue and were informed that it was a special that they made whenever they felt like it. All three of us ordered it and all three of us rejoiced! It contained the same amount of lobster as the roll - 8oz - and was as fine as anything that we have ever had in extensive world and national travels. We didn't have anything else except iced tea and coffee but I'd certainly go out of my way anytime for that dish - or, by extension, the lobster roll. read more
