Popping Yolk in Old Pas is one of our favorites for brunch. Avo bene + a hot London fog are my go-tos. My meal comes with a salad of mixed greens and crispy potatoes which are crispy and so flavorful. My family gets strawberry crème pancakes, burgers and the regular Benedict. The food and service never disappoint. When it's prime brunch time on the weekend, there is usually a wait. It's not terrible so just be patient. The kitchen cranks out food pretty quickly. You do have to order & pay first before seating yourself. Don't be that person who blocks an entire section of tables before your group even arrives please. That's just rude. I'm addition to dining in, we have have ordered Popping Yolk on Door Dash many times. The food is packaged well, is super tasty and the potatoes are still crispy. WIN!! read more

It was pretty busy, but the food came out surprisingly fast once we ordered and were seated! I ordered the bacon and cheese sandwich, which comes with potatoes and a salad. He also said it was shareable especially if we get a dessert. We asked him which was popular and he said he's not a fan of fried French toast so he recommended the waffles. Man am I glad I doubted him on his dessert recommendation because we ended up ordering the deep fried ube French toast and it was ungodly good. So glad I decided to trust my guy on that one! Service: Been to popping yolk cafe several times and was extremely embarrassed and discouraged during my last visit. I was with my disabled son and newborn and ordered a couple drinks to go (green iced mango tea and grapefruit juice). We waited at a small table in the very front outside for our drinks. When I picked our drinks and brought them back to the small table I waited no more than 2-3 minutes (my son needed a few minutes to transition before departing). The registrar came out of the cafe to our table and said we could not sit there due to not having a reservation. It was clear no one had been sitting there and no one was being sat there in the immediate future. I quickly got us up to leave while prompting my son. It was embarrassing and stressful. read more

I went on a Saturday during peak traffic and even with a 25-30 min wait it was worth it. My food came out quick, it was a beautiful day so I drank my coffee out side and that's not to mention how good the food tasted. Salad was refreshing and light, potatoes were perfect classic breakfast potatoes, and the sandwich was the perfect go to egg breakfast sandwich elevated with a light coating of mayo and more fresh greens! I ate the entire salad (how often do we say that), potatoes, and I was so full and satisfied from the first half of my sandwich I boxed the other half and gave it to a local person in need. I walked up to the cashier, and ordered my food and drinks. All three times, I opted for the spicy chicken eggs benedict. I made sure to specify that I wanted the grilled chicken version, not the fried one. The food came out better than expected! The chicken was indeed spicy, the eggs were cooked well, and the hollandaise sauce was a good complement. The breakfast potatoes and salad went perfectly with my meal. The coffee and the tea here are decent. This place is well run, efficient, and clean. The staff is friendly and always making sure the place is run smoothly. Loved this place! I came for brunch with my family, and everyone enjoyed their food. Ordering is done at the front before you're seated, and the staff was incredibly friendly, patient, and welcoming. I had the Nashville chicken benedict, ube pancake, ube coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice--everything was delicious. The orange juice was especially amazing. My mom ordered the avocado and ham sandwich with a scrambled egg, and it was just as amazing. The standout for us was the country-fried potatoes. They were perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and far better than the soggy potatoes you get at many brunch spots. The salad and dressing were also a nice touch. 2 stars purely based on my most recent visit-- my friends and I had a terrible experience with several staff being snarky and rude. The food was excellent as always, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths. This was my first time at Popping Yolk early enough that the iPad waitlist wasn't out yet, and instead everyone was lined up inside the cafe. We saw other people saving tables while waiting in line to order (this was before they brought out the iPad waitlist), therefore we did as well, placing our water bottles on a table as we waited. Keep in mind, we were one of the next three parties in line to order, and we first asked the staff if they were done cleaning and we could take the table. When we got back in line, the same staff member confiscated the bottles and when we went up to talk to them, they were unnecessarily rude and long winded, when all they needed to say was the policy is to not allow holding tables. They also did not offer to give the bottles back, instead we had to get it back when we ordered. This was plain weird and unnecessary, and if we hadn't been waiting for 30+ minutes already, we would've left. When I got up to the counter I got placed as the first person on the iPad waitlist, which should've been there from the start to prevent the chaos inside the restaurant. Later when it was finally our turn to order, another staff member made a sarcastic comment about the situation: "NOW you can sit down". I understand that the Saturday morning rush probably had employees stressed out, but instead of addressing things calmly and politely, there was a number of sarcastic responses and comments that ruined our experience. We would've happily taken our stuff back and waited if it was communicated like adults, but instead there was a series of passive aggressive comments. This entire experience was disheartening because I've introduced all my family and friends to Popping Yolk over the years as my go to brunch spot. I think next time I want brunch, I'll definitely be trying the Alhambra location instead. read more

We ordered the Ube French Toast and the Fried Chicken Benedict. The French toast looked amazing with all the powdered sugar, coconut flakes, and blueberries. The ube flavor was great -- not overly sweet -- but they were a little heavy-handed with the coconut for my taste. If you love coconut, you'll be into it though. The Fried Chicken Benedict was solid. Crispy fried chicken, runny poached eggs, and creamy hollandaise all piled onto a toasted English muffin. Arrived here around 11:30 on a Sunday and there was a short line but it didn't look bad because there seemed to also be plenty of seating. As I got closer to the door, I saw a tablet for us to join the waitlist but past the door is the order line so I was confused. We asked staff for help and they explained that we wait to get called from the waitlist then they will take our order and seat us. So it's a bit different than your usual sit and order brunch spot but I didn't mind this process because the wait was about 30 mins instead of the estimated 40-50 mins and our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. I was feeling pretty conflicted but the staff were great with giving advice on what's good and popular. I ended up getting the avocado benedict. Usually, benedicts disappoint me but this one was actually really good and didn't feel too heavy. The biscuit was perfectly baked - not too dry and thick and thus balanced well with the avocado and ham. I love that there's a side salad for balance lol and the potatoes were so good! They're bite size tiny but perfectly crispy on the outside. I was also super excited that they had Tapatío on the table because that's my favorite hot sauce lol. My sister got the kim chi spam omelette which is such a unique offering here - it was really good! My friend got the salmon croissant sandwich and it looked huge. We all shared a half order of the crunchy house french toast and it was soooooo good. I love the crunchy texture! It did feel a bit oily though. I got the mango green tea and it was really yummy and loved that it was refillable. My sister got the vanilla latte and it was really good! Perfect balance of vanilla and espresso. My friend got the earl gray latte and that was bomb!! Not too sweet with the perfect fragrant of earl gray. Dogs are welcome for outdoor seating! Very cute and chill vibes here with great service. The space is standard basic cafe leftover from the previous establishment with a few egg stuffed toys dispersed throughout. The girls were friendly but could be trained better as far as understanding what gluten is. My dad was pleased, which is good. As a gluten free person this place is Disappointing. I was going to get the Californian Omelette but apparently the pesto has gluten in it, which means they are thickening it with flour as the traditional pesto recipe is basil, pine nuts, cheese and olive oil. What's the element with flour in it? Anyway I ended up ordering scramble eggs and salad that I had dry because their dressing had soy in it. If you are gluten intolerant this place is a zero as paying for mixed greens with a sliced cherry tomato and corn is a joke, The rating is based on his experience and mine.
