Pretty much as advertised, so it's hard to go wrong. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable, and the cats were all pretty sociable. Their reservation system caught several walk-ins by surprise, but it's there for good reason and the staff were pretty accommodating in spite of it. All in all, it's a really innovative and fun idea to help out a great cause. If I lived here I would have adopted all 17 cats and replaced my friends with them. read more

This is Charleston's take on a new and trendy venue sweeping the nation, and a must do if you are an animal lover. The $15 per person fee with a free drink is reasonable, and worthwhile. There is a great selection of drinks and snacks and Cats! A reservation is needed, because they have limited numbers to not over crowd the cats. This is a great place for a break from life and the world. All of the cats are friendly - although some are sassy. The reservations were easy to make online ($15/hr when I went), and include one alcoholic drink or unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. Being a student, I chose the iced coffee; not only was that delicious, but they also had flavored syrups and soy milk (soy milk is *never* just available like that). I'd highly recommend trying this at least once - although not if you're allergic to cats. read more

We arrived for our reserved time slot a few minutes early and staff were warm and accommodating. They explained the basics for our visit and made us feel welcome the entire time. There were cats of an assortment of ages and sizes. All the cats appeared well cared for and were very sociable. The refreshments were good and the hour seemed to fly by. Loved the cats and the experience, but the staff was very rude and unfriendly. They had no desire to have any interaction with us and had a strong desire for us to leave. When we asked questions about the adoptions, they looked us up and down as if we didn't deserve to adopt one of the cats. Overall, just a very uninviting atmosphere in terms of personnel. The staff was welcoming and friendly, and so were the felines! We had some "meowmosas" and then proceeded to make new friends... the cats were all very happy and liked to lounge or play. The staff knew all their names, and new toys delivered for them while we were there. The staff let us feed them some treats and overall it is a great and relaxing experience. They have helped 155 cats get adopted and find homes so far. I didn't know a cat cafe existed in Charleston, so I am glad we stumbled upon it. :) read more

Awesome experience. It was our first visit to Charleston and we had this on our to-do list during our time there. The cafe is run very well and is tied to a great mission. The cats were a bit sleepy when we were there but even so the owners tried to help us engage with them how we could while respecting their need for a cat nap. I loved hearing the personal stories of each of the different cats and some of the positive stories of cats that have been adopted. If their hilarious signs do not make you want to visit (Live Nude Cats) then the promise of being able to pet up to 20 fluffballs while you have wine or beer should do the trick. You walk in and are greeted with the sight of place for you to sit or stand that will put you right in the middle of cat territory. No matter where you are, a cat will be near, which is a great thing. Their bar is fantastic, with local brews and awesome gear to buy. One thing I was expecting was to see or smell litterboxes, and it just didn't happen. The litter is hidden but easily accessed by the cats so you can pet away without fear of smelling any of that. Such a wonderful place, such wonderful staff, and such a great thing they are doing for those cats. read more

We had originally scheduled to visit Pounce in November for my daughter's 21st birthday. Due to the opening delays, we had to reschedule. The holidays got busy and it slipped my mind. My daughter reminded me a couple of weeks ago and I worried about having trouble rescheduling. I had NOTHING to worry about. I was easily rescheduled for the night we wanted. Our visit was last night. The cafe is decorated adorably! Lots of places to sit and play with the kitties (although I ended up just sitting on the floor several times.) You'd think having this many cats might cause issues with cleanliness, but the staff is obviously conscientious because everything was clean and there were none of the scents that come with litter boxes. The staff was super friendly and made sure that we knew all of the cats' names and answered any questions we had. I love the whole concept and it's amazing to see how many kitties have already found homes! We'll definitely be planning a return trip soon. read more

This is such a cute place! Great food and drinks, and adorable (and adoptable) kitties! The cats are all from the local no-kill shelter, and are all adoptable! It's a great place if you are looking for a new feline friend to add to your family. Seeing the cats in a friendly comfortable environment really lets their purr-sonalities shine! The only bad thing is that you have to reserve your time their, and sometimes reservations can be hard to come by, and it goes by time slots. Overall though, a wonderful experience! read more

Only three reasons you could not like this place. One you don't like cats, in which case why are you here? Second, you are PETA and think these cats are tortured slaves to their human masters. Third, you have no soul and should immediately cease and desist from writing any reviews. My wife wanted to go, which means I wanted to go or better at least act like I did. For essentially a $10 per person donation you get a free drink and 30 minutes to play with the cats, everyone wins. The cats that want attention get some, the place gets some funds needed for operation, and you get free alcohol(tip not included, don't forget the humans). All cats are available for adoption that can be done immediately on site. There is a bar that is housed in a separate room. There is no off putting smell and the place is immaculately clean. The staff is friendly, dressed for the part and there's no shortage of corny play on words like Happy Meow-ur. Hours seem a bit funky as to give the cats a break, so check the website. Fellow customers and their costumes can be as entertaining as the cats, if not more so. Watch your step and enjoy! read more

Alright, alright. I have been dying to adopt a cute little feline. I thought Pounce would be the perfect place to make this happen. The reservation system is fantastic--the place is highly organized, clean, and smells very nice. However, obviously, we cannot control animals in a similar way as a bunch of people in a space. But I must say, the other people in the room were not very interactive, which would've been fine if the cats had been more forthcoming. They were not interested in playing, cuddling, or hanging out. It felt like a constant rejection. Like when you go into a bar and offer a girl a drink and she runs away. This time around, the cats kept running away. I understand they didn't feel up for it, and this is not the fault of the employees/owners/staff. The premise of this place is incredible, however, because of the unpredictable nature of animals, I think it is hard to control the outcome of the experiences. I was seriously looking to adopt, but was not approached once by a staff member nor learned more about the cats. I would've loved to learn more about them and their personalities, but I understand they may have been preoccupied. Great space, execution, and I understand you cannot control the behaviors of the main attractions, which are beings, not machines. I just think it is important to come into this place without high expectations. More interactions with the staff would also be appreciated since many people visiting this venue are indeed looking to adopt. Or perhaps that should be an option on the online registration form, so the staff can be notified about the parties whose main goal of the visit is to adopt a cat. Thank you though! I love even just the concept of this place. Shelter cats are brought into an environment where people can pet and play with them for an hour. If you like a cat enough, you can adopt it. My daughter is a huge cat person and enjoyed our first visit so much that we went back during a recent vacation on Kiawah Island. I had heard something about a cat cafe in Charleston, but it wasn't until we just happened to walk by the prime location on Meeting St that we actually got to see Pounce and decide we HAD to go. We stopped in and made reservations for the next day. I was really impressed with most everything: the bar in the back is lovely and the beer/wine selection was great. They seem to let about 10 people in at each hour-long time slot, and our group was mixed with families, groups of girlfriends, some moms/kids (note: there is an age limit to filter out wildness/high energy). Everyone in our group was good at "sharing" the cats-- I was worried that people would bogart the kittens (there were two when we went). The employees were so friendly, and knowledgeable about all the cats. All in all, I did feel a little rushed to find a good cat or sitting area, probably because there were only about 4 awake cats and 10 people to pet them, but if they are struggling to find stray cats to adopt out, that's a good problem to have!! Everyone in Charleston should probably just pay the $15 and have a glass of wine and snuggle with a kitten. I just wish we had one in Richmond!! read more

This place is purrfect! The cafe is well kept, quaint and cozy aka the best spot for an afternoon with kittens. I would've been happy paying 15 for the experience but they also offer a complimentary drink with your reservation. Enjoyed the cafe so much that even though my boyfriend and I went in to "just check it out", we ended up leaving with our own pawsitively purrfect cat, Waffles! I was visiting Charleston from Boston and had to stop by Pounce when I found out it had opened just around the corner from my hotel. It was very easy to sign up for a time slot online, and the fee included a glass of wine that I picked up in the cozy bar area before I went in to meet the kitties. Then I went into the cat area which was very nicely decorated, very clean, and full of cats! Some wanted to lay on my lap and some wanted to play, they were all very sweet and well cared for. The litter boxes were all hidden, I didn't even notice them until an employee showed me where some were. The owners and employees were really friendly and happy to tell me about how they opened the cafe and about each cat. I love that they're up for adoption, and can't believe they have already adopted out over 70 cats in the short time they've been open! I will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area, and in the meantime I hope that Pounce considers opening a Boston branch ;) read more
