This place is quirky place. Like, if a guy who was really passionate about aged steaks wanted to do a steakhouse but the economics of in-house steak age-ing made him also have to sell them, but also restauranteering is a developed skill so he got as close to a classic steakhouse as possible (the classic meat-centric menu and calorifically heavy sides with the prices to boot) but the classic atmosphere was a bit harder to pin down. Also he liked Korean cuisine. Not to say it's not anything short of a great experience. It was an amazing steak. The waiter, who was a sprightly, bald white guy, made an excellent recommendation of selecting the dry-aged new York strip over the wet-aged ribeye. Came with a scallion salad, which was meant as a sour, refreshing, counterpoint to the steak. The sides were decent. The mashed potato had the restaurant quality of having a lot of butter so naturally was good, and the creamed spinach was better than most creamed spinach I've eaten. They had bread and butter, but the butter came in a small plastic package, which isnt exactly the sexiest way to serve butter. The bread was good. The steak was cooked to medium rare perfection, tender, flavorful, but not juicy wet which I think is characteristic of the dry age. Had nice sections of fat. They had a pinch of two finishing salts, one a Smokey black, large grit salt and a jalopeno salt that mixed things up. The New York strip was served on the bone, which I like. They say it's a steakhouse AND butcher, but I never really got that impression. Maybe since I went for dinner they suppress the butcher side of things. Most of the interesting cuts of dry-aged steaks were for two, and I was by myself on business trip so that was kind of disappointing. Definitely would've gotten a tomahawk if that was an option for one. I was also feeling unhealthy and got a coke, which they served from a can that they hilariously charged 3 dollars for. I guess I'd be upset if I wasn't being reimbursed. Also, these prices are pretty expensive, which really should reflect the quality of steaks they're serving. The sides are a dollar or two more pricey than Ive seen before, but I think it might be a New York thing? Solid steaks, great food. I think this is a great place if you're young and have friends and something to celebrate and the pocket money to pay for it without the stuffy oppressiveness of your regular steakhouse. read more

My coworker has been mentioning this place to me for years, ever since the village location was still around. My husband and I finally got to give it a try this weekend with my coworker and his wife. There were a lot of people at the restaurant during the lunchtime. We ordered a lot of things from the dinner menu. We started with the green salad with sesame dressing. The dressing was amazing but not overwhelming the salad. Then we had the tornado fries, which was a deep fried spiral-cut whole potato on a skewer. It was very fun to eat. The sausage plate came with two pieces of chicken sausage, a veal sausage, and a pork sausage. I think the pork tasted the best among the three. Chicken and veal sausages were pretty bland. The dry aged Tomahawk steak for two cost $160! WOW! It was very tender and juicy but not sure if it was worth $160! I wouldn't compare Tomahawk with Peter Luger's Porterhouse. Maybe I have to come back and try the Porterhouse and compare. But in terms of price, this place was definitely at the higher end. The steak came with scallion salad, which was a very Asian thing to have. The grilled mushroom was very good and tasty. At the end, we also had the kimchi fried rice. The fried rice was very yummy and it cooked with bacon bits. However, the fried egg on the top was overcooked. We were super confused about tipping or not tipping as everyone else. One of the best steakhouses in NJ. They have a butcher shop and steakhouse on one. They dry age and wet age all of their steaks in house. I have been coming to this steak house for the past 5 years. Finally doing a review. I usually go for wet age bone in steaks. Delmonico is usually my go to. They always present the steak before they cook it and to see the marbalization. The sides are Aalto great, we usually get the kimchi fried rice which is hand down the best. And for appetizer I have had the double smoked bacon and crab cakes. Both a great choice. It is also a BYOB place which is great for a steak house. I would highly recommend you make a reservation in advance because it's usually extremely difficult to get a table in the evening. read more

We had the wagyu beef, 62oz tomahawk "too chewy", mac & cheese "a little watery no tatste", kim chee rice "was ok", lamb chops "1 - 5 rating a 4", sausage plate "expensive hot dog/breakfast sausage links" , and some bacon plate... Man oh man oh man i was super excited tilllllll (i ate) The service was excellent. Above total the food rating not that amazing. Sorry YELP is about being honest and for the price of $600 for three people the quality of the meat could have been way better. We've been here 3 times. I would describe Prime & Beyond as a Korean, cozy, family-owned butcher shop slash casual steakhouse. Emphasis on the casual. Food is great (hence the stars), but I do have some quips about the service. Reservations: Opentable is easy. Every time we come it gets packed but it does look like walk-ins are feasible. Parking: They have their own lot but it fills up very easily. Dinner: Surprised how packed it is for a random weeknight. - Service was a bit odd - the tables around us got bread and we didn't. Also ordered a can of soda and it took a while to get a glass to pour the soda into. It's not that casual of a steakhouse to expect to drink from the can. - Double smoked bacon was too thick for my own liking and it's really filling. Probably wouldn't get it again unless there was a larger group. - Dry aged bone-in ribeye for two. Yum. Not the best I've ever had but it was pretty good. It comes with scallion salad (like Korean BBQ), pea puree (meh, didn't feel like it went with the meat), roasted garlic (yum). - Sides are extra. We got potato salad and creamed spinach and couldn't finish either. They were ok. They were out of foie gras as a topping. - Dessert looks pretty standard - we skipped it. Lunch: Their lunch menu is a great value considering the higher quality of meat. We've gone for Saturday lunch. - Comp apps are chips and onion dip, pickled and spicy radish, pickled and spicy cucumber. The latter two are Korean style and the cucumbers are spicy. - I've gotten short ribs (galbi) both times, but after the second time, I have to remind myself not to get it next time. The meat is fattier, marinade not sweet (not a bad thing), but no grill marks so it is chewier. That's why I need to try something else next time. - We've also tried the burger and rice (and curry). This and the above dish both come with rice, a fried egg, salad, and potato salad. - We've also tried the bulgogi which I thought was ok - a huge portion and comes with a bowl of the long shin (bone marrow) soup but I'm guessing less meat than the entree version. - It was obvious later that we didn't drink enough water during the meal and had a salt attack after the second visit where we were rushed (see below). I didn't notice the saltiness during the meal, now that I know, I will definitely drink more water next time. - Service: First time, it was fine, we had a female server. Second time, we had a male server who we had not had on the prior visits but had seen. We arrived before the lunch rush and there was a 6-top and 4-top with "reserved" signs on the tables. I think that might be almost half of their seats? We reserved online too and arrived before noon. Anyways, there was much pressure to put in an order even though there were only 3 other people dining. There was also a lot of attempts to upsell. Maybe it's eagerness. As we were nearing the end of our meal, the place started filling up but was still at half capacity (all the tables without the reserved signs were occupied). It was clear they wanted us out asap with the arrival of the bill that we hadn't asked for. I barely had time to finish my drink. My wife's friend recommended this place, and the dude knows how to eat, so we all decided to meet up here for lunch, along with his wife. This was a great choice, on par with Peter Luger, minus the attitude and the $15 slices of tomato and onions. Don't get me wrong, Luger is amazing when it comes to porterhouse, but they don't have too many options otherwise. And that's where Prime & Beyond comes in. They have a wide selection of cuts to choose from, including the dry-aged tomahawk rib eye, which our friend recommended. It was damn pricey, but damn good at the same time. Incredibly juicy and tender, with fatty marbling all over, giving it a delicate texture and deep flavor as it melts in your mouth and disappears. The kimchi fried rice was another winner. One of the great steak houses of NJ! Talking to the kind waiter that served us; he let us know that their meat supply comes from the same supplier that Peter Luger's steakhouse uses. This steakhouse cooks steak in traditional sense, but offers some great sides and garnishes with a Korean cuisine twist to it. Who knew kimchi fried rice as a side really works with steak! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED by management. DO NOT come here with a big group unless you want to get taken advantage of. We made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a group of 15, and they called us the day of requesting that we show up an hour later. They promised to "take care of us" and make it worth our while, so we obliged. First lie of the night. We were seated on one long table, which made it hard for everyone to communicate with each other. They knowingly had us order 3 ginormous platters of meat knowing 2 would be more than enough. At the end of the meal, we had at least 5 lbs of meat left over. The nail on the coffin was when the bill came out and that shit was NOT EVEN ITEMIZED. Are you okay??? We were literally given a small piece of paper that said $2,000. Ain't nobody got time for that. To add insult to injury, they did it on Mother's Day with no explanation whatsoever as we were getting in the car to head over. Maybe with 24 hour notice we could have at least booked something else. Steak is delicious service is a bit cold. The place is very small probably fits only 50 people and there's a two hour dining limit. I had the strip steak on the bone it was cooked perfect, I ate around the bone it was so good . The apps are very good, bacon, crab cakes, Octopus were all very good. The sides, Brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, scallion salad, and kimchi rice all were very good. The place is bit pricy but it's a BYOB and I don't care as long as the food is good. Excellent dry age steaks in a little restaurant tucked away down Main Street away from the bulk of the traffic. They have a small parking lot in front, but otherwise it's all street parking. Dry aging is becoming more and more of a rarity nowadays. All the mainstream steak restaurants (ex. Morton's, Ruth Chris's, etc.) have all gone the way of wet aging. I guess commercially it just makes more sense. Also, there are many people who would prefer wet aging as well. It's simply a different profile, so to each his/her own. Anyway, I digress... I'm definitely a dry age kinda guy and this place does it right. Flavor profile and texture were both spot on. I ordered medium rare and they came out textbook every time. They also did a mean lamb chop that should not be missed. However, there are some critical things that took away from the overall experience... Service - They need some serious work here. During the latest visit, they completely botched the service. 1. Waitress forgot to bring over the bread basket for my table, but the table right next to mine got some. Did I just happen to be that 1 table out of 10 that you automatically assumed to be allergic to gluten? 2. After involuntarily foregoing the bread, I had to remind the waitress to bring me a wine glass even though the bottle has been sitting on the table for 15 minutes. I swear I didn't bring it as a prop for added atmosphere... 3. Finally, I actually had to walk up to the cashier in order to get my bill paid because it was just impossible to flag anyone down after repeated attempts. No excuse for this kind of stuff when your average entree is over $50 per person. Side Dishes - For a place that serves excellent meat entrees, this place has a serious weak spot when it comes to the sides. At times, it seems like they don't even care to serve sides. I hit a steak place to indulge. You're not going to indulge anyone with a spoonful of puree and some caramelized onions... 2.5 stars purely for the steak and efforts on dry aging. After having the best steak ever from the Prime & Beyond in the East Village (now closed permanently), I just had to come here. We came here in a group of 4 after a long Saturday at Woodbury Commons. Made reservations 2 day ahead of time without any problems via Opentable -- most times were still available. I even changed the reservation time the day after and it was fine. However, on the day of, most dinner slots were booked up. From the outside, it doesn't look like fancy steak spot. Once you walk in, there are meat lockers to your left. The dining area is packed tightly with tables. It really feels like this was a makeshift restaurant. The plus side is that you don't have to come here in dressy attire. But, we came here for the steak. We ordered two dry-aged ribeyes (for 2) medium rare, creamed spinach, and kimchi fried rice. Dry-aged bone-in ribeye: It was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Compared to the East Village spot, however, there was something left to be desired. I felt that the cut didn't have as much marbling as it should. It came with the customary roasted garlic and scallion salad that went great with the steak. Creamed spinach: It was okay, but nothing to rave about here. Kimchi fried rice: It was very good. Just be prepared for the kick -- it's rather spicy. Service: I gotta say that there's plenty of room for improvement here. There doesn't seem to be enough servers here. And, they're squeezing between tables to get around. We needed to ask for water refills regularly. Not something I'd expect from a steakhouse. I really wanted to like this place. The East Village spot has just set the bar way too high. Fortunately, the steak is top-notch here. But, don't have high expectations if you're looking for more. read more

Yes, I love the food at this place. Always have, always will, but service is sadly lacking here especially when you consider the fact that we spent well over $100 pp. Went there with family last night for NYE and was looking forward to the night. First they screwed up the seating...reservation was for 13ppl and sat us at a table for 10 so we all had to squeeze in and with no apologies from anyone. Then, we couldn't get a glass of water for the table for half an hour, then couldn't get a corkscrew for our wine for another 45 mins, then served us bread but not enough bread for the entire group, a couple of us sitting with no place settings, and on and on. The crazy part was that the place was not even all that busy. 2 waitresses for the entire place and they had zero direction from anyone and just running from table to table. Both just seemed very young and a bit untrained and for NYE they should have had more servers. We would ask for something, they would say "sure" and then 20 mins later we had to remind them and this went on all night. Also no scallion side dish served as we've had every single other time we've been there, which was also a disappointment and we were going to ask but afraid it wouldn't arrive in time for our meal. Of course when the food arrived, it was amazing but most in our group were already too pissed off with service to truly enjoy the meal. Then waitress asks us if we want dessert but sadly, most of us were just looking to get out of there at that stage. I come here all the time but if they can't figure out something as simple as good service at such a small and expensive restaurant, we will sadly be heading elsewhere. Too many other options between River Palm, Grissini and Fleming's with amazing service and while I generally prefer this place, you will lose my business if it doesn't get fixed. **500th Review** Hands down the best steak I have eaten. They cut my porterhouse to the perfect size after getting a feel for how hungry I was and how big of a steak I wanted. The Chef told us all about his meat and the racks of steak aging behind us. He then cooked it as per his own recommendation. (always go with the chefs recommendations). Let me tell you... this steak was like BUTTTER! If I didn't watch him cut the steak and bring it to the grill... i would have sworn it was drenched in butter... but it wasn't.. it was just the amazing flavor of the fat from the aging process that gave the meat such an amazing rich flavor. After eating here, I can no longer look at all the other butter-drenched steak houses. Been here a few times, once with my wife and twice with larger groups. Came here for lunch for the first time, and Q the butcher (the owner's name) walked us through dry and wet-aged steaks. Both intrigued us, so we had one of each. The steaks are a nice size, and to the delight of my asian-ness, it came with white rice and a fried egg - amazing. The dry aged steak was more flavorful but not as juicy, while the wet aged was vice versa - juicy, but not as flavorful. But make no mistake, this was one of the most flavorful steaks I have ever had, much much different than the steaks I've had from Outback/Ruth's Chris/Peter Luger, which are all drenched and cooked in tons of butter. There is an option for bigger groups, which they call the Family Style Steak Platter for 4+ people. It comes out to about $55-65/pp. If you bring wine, you will pay a cork fee, which I believe was $5 per bottle. They bring out the raw steaks they will prepare for you, and my mouth was just watering. For starters, they brought out lamb chops, which were so freaking perfect. The steaks were a combination of wet/dry aged plus a T-bone, which was the most flavorful. The place is small and BYOB and small, so be sure to call to make a reservation. Went for lunch. Burger and rice, aka hamburg steak in Korean, was pretty great. Great flavor and super moist. Probably the most bang for the buck. Cobb salad plus steak. NOT a cobb salad, and it will never pass for a cobb salad. It was more like just a garden salad, lettunce, tomato, asparagus and broccoli, with mayo based dressing. It was fresh and the dish as a whole felt pretty healthy and tasty but not worth $21, even if you consider that the tip is included. The add-on steak is $5, so while it seems like a good deal, it only makes up for the overpriced salad. The steak came grilled to perfect medium, but the waitress never actually bothered to ask how I wanted it done. Either they only cook it to medium for the add-on or the waitress just assumed that I wanted it medium. French fries at $6 is a banging option to add as a side. Fresh, crispy, and not too salty. There is some junk laying around here and there right at the entrance. Not so presentable. Also, the whole place sort of has a divey, dingy feel to it. Definitely not the same cozy atmosphere you find at other steakhouses, and definitely not what you'd expect from a place that sells $20 salads and burgers at lunch. Not recommended for romantic dinner or special occasions. If you remove the food from the whole picture, and it could easily pass as a old hole-in-the-wall Korean or Korean Chinese restaurant. They give you a couple of Korean side dishes on the house. It's great, but it's not a game changer. Overall, 3.5 stars, but if I had to choose between 3 or 4, it would be a 3. What a terrible and disappointing experience. Here are my major points of contention: 1 - First of all on a Friday night there were literally 3 tables including us. That's terrible foreshadowing that we should've picked up on, but based on the positive yelp reviews I was extremely hopeful. 2 - Medium rare to them is essentially medium. There was no hint of rare in that term to them. 3 - We ordered three entrees for the three of us. Be warned that the side of mac/potato salad that apparently comes with an entree is only one per table not one per entree. We were told we would have to pay extra for the other two. Then oddly we received 2 sides of "veggies/side salad" and when we asked for a 3rd we were told that we were supposed to share. Huh? Arbitrary. 4 - And to add insult to injury the steak had absolutely no seasoning and no flavor. This is the meat version of Wild Edibles where its half butcher shop and half restaurant. This place is all about the meat. If you are looking for a BLT prime or Prime Steak house "scene" then this is not the place for you. Q is the name of the gentleman that runs the both the butcher shop and the restaurant. He is very courteous, greets and seats everyone. The one great spin on this menu is that he has a family special which is $50-60 bucks per person and he suggests 4-5 cuts of meat. Bacon side is just as good if not better than Luger's or Ben and Jacks. Scallion side sauce is a nice twist. Otherwise there is no other sauce to spoil the natural flavor of the meat. No gimmicky foie gras or other fancy toppings. You get two varieties or french sea salt, one plain and another smoked and that is all you need to flavor your meat. In all fairness, food 4.5 stars, price 4 stars and service was 2.75 stars. Total should've been about 3.5 but not quite 4 stars. Went for a quiet dinner on a Tuesday evening. There was one other table and no other guest when we walked in. The waiter asked if we had a reservation then when we said no, he sat us at a table on the side. Per usual, we sat down and was taking a minute before we looked at the menu. But, before we can even make ourselves comfortable, a waiter came asking if we were ready to order. I smiled at him and said no, and asked him to give us a moment. He asked for drink orders then went away. He must have came back about 3 times within the span of 5 minutes asking if we were ready to order. Hummm.... he seemed rushed for something but what??? There was no one else there! Couldn't understand why we were being so rushed. Once again, politely, I let him know that we are not ready and I needed to look at the menu. Oh.. ok was his answer. Then of course he came back for the 4th time... ugh! :( At this point I really wanted to just leave and not eat here. He didn't smile, not friendly, kept rushing and when we told him what we wanted to order or when I said I didn't bring a bottle of wine or even when I told him I didn't want to order coffee or dessert, he paused for a min then gave me this 'oh... really?' answer. Who trained this guy??? I would think if party of 2 is spending over $100 on a meal, we can take 5 or 10 mins to talk and decide, no? In any case.. we ordered wet aged ribeye med rare & dry aged NY strip med rare. Again, when I said I didn't want any appetizer he looked at us with this facial expression.... We were there for the food and was trying very hard not let him get to me. As per usual, meat was so tender and tasty I was so glad I didn't walk out of this place once again. Grilled veggies were good, sauce was tad bit sweet for my taste. They served a small bullet of sweet potatoe puree with kimchi topping and 3 types of salt for the steak. Sweet potatoe puree was very sweet.. wished this was served as a desert rather then a pre-dish appetizer. 3 types of salt complimented the steak and esp the garlic salt was delicious. Soon, the manager came around letting us know that there was a new chef on site & the menu had new items so try them. By this time, the place was quite full. Wow, I'm so surprised that this place has only been rated 1 time?! It's amazing here. It's kind of strange that it's Korean run (I'm not being mean, I, myself, am Korean and was surprised!) but the steaks are so good, their salads so fresh - awesome dressing, and you get kimchi on the side which just keeps your palate ready for more. The entrees ARE very pricey - wow! But the lunch specials are such a steal. You get a salad with everything, and seemingly a fried egg as well. Do not order their $155 Tomahawk steak! I normally don't write bad reviews but this Saturday 10/10/2020 we had dinner there with 3 other virgin couples to the place and the Tomahawk steak was just so bad I felt compelled to write up this review. We have been going to Prime & Beyond for years and Q the owner would always stop by and say hello, ect. We were a party of 8 and basically ate and tried most items on the menu and as usual everything was good to excellent. Me and my wife made the $155 mistake of ordering the Tomahawk steak. And although it was cooked medium as we normally like, the steak was just not edible. There was a really tough tendon running right thru the entire chop. You had to cut it out and even everything around was very tough. We even told the waiter who eventually told Q the owner. Q came by and I showed him the tough tendon running right down the entire piece of steak. He shrugged it off and was like it's fine. Given the fact that we just ordered over $700 worth of food and I brought 3 new couples to the place. I am just so surprised that Q the owner didn't acknowledge our complaint. read more

We spent a pleasant Wednesday evening here recently. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. Ordered the thick bacon and the octopus for appetizers. Both were quite tasty. Had the Boneless Ribeye Wet Aged steak with fries and spinach for the main course. The steak was big enough for 2 and was cooked to perfection. I was amazed at the quality of the cut and the juiciness of the meat. The fries and the spinach were quite tasty and a good compliment. We took a small leftover of steak home and made a delicious sandwich for lunch. Our compliments to the 2 chefs behind the grill who made us a fantastic meal! The BYOB policy here is very nice as we can splurge on a nice bottle of red and dine here like a king for a reasonable price. The nice waiter will decant for you if you need it and the wine glasses provided are of good quality. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we did! read more
