Prime pizza is a nice pizza establishment! It got its fame from a 8.1 Dave Portnoy review a few years ago (though at a different location). When you walk in, you're welcomed by the smell of fresh pizzas. You just walk up to the counter and order what you like, you can grab a whole pizza or order by the slice (along with many other options pasta, apps, beer, etc.). The ambiance is casual. There were TVs playing the game a plenty of people deep in conversation, especially families of all ages. We were a little larger group, so we grabbed an Arrabiatta round, meat lovers square, Sicilian square, and some garlic knots. All the pizza was excellent. Though I do think it would've fallen slightly short of the Dave Portnoy 8.1 for us. The flop wasn't quite there though the crust was crispy! If we were to rank them we liked the dough/crust of the squares better, but the Arrabiatta was our favorite. Something about the combination of flavors, with the hint of spice just made it delicious! Came here to nab some dinner and watch the game before Christmas lights. I did hear good reviews by el presidente (Portnoy) about this spot. It's your typical sports bar type of vibe. Couple of tvs to watch Thursday night football. The food was pretty decent but nothing special in my opinion. It is worth the price. I freaking love prime pizza because it's the closest thing we have to NYC style pizza. The secret to all slice shops is the reheating factor and man I love it here. The slices are a big pricey but to be honest even in NYC it cost just as much (if you exclude the crappy $1.50 slices). I'd say prime pizza can definitely go toe to toe with some of the slice shops in NYC. Flavor/taste of the slices here are amazing and I love the grandma/square slices. Ordered from these guys for a work luncheon. their website makes ordering so easy. Delivery was on time and courteous. They sent lots of Parmesan cheese and hot chilies, but you have to order it at time of order placement. I was here on Sunday picking up a pie for a family dinner. I got the Sicilian. The expected pick up time matched when I got a text telling me that the pie was ready. I dropped in and the pie was sitting with all of the other take out orders in a warming oven. I got back home about 20 minutes later and we dug in right away. We heard a lot of great things about Prime Pizza, but were a bit disappointed. The pesto and ricotta were great but the crust was a let down. I was expecting a little bit of a crunch to the bottom and the inside to be more airy, but we weren't getting that. Maybe it was an off day. I'll probably go back to try a white pizza. read more

Had to make a drop off at LAX and Prime Pizza had been on my radar so thought I would give this a try since it was just 10 min away from the airport. The place looked pretty clean and there was plenty of parking and added bonus they had the Dodger game on! Now on to the pizzas! They didn't have a full selection to choose from when I got there (granted it was later in the evening), however, the slices that jumped out at me the most were the Sicilian and the BBQ Chicken. Service was friendly and gentleman that helped me brought the slices out to the table and even followed up and asked how everything was. Both slices I ordered were outstanding and while the BBQ Chicken was on the sweeter side, the spice of the jalapenos definitely added a nice contrast to the sweet. Nice crust as well and overall the quality of the ingredients shined. The Sicilian was probably my favorite out of the two though they are completely different styles. read more

Pretty solid pizza spot. I'm not a picky pizza guy but this place definitely stands out from the rest. The biggest differences are their tomato sauce and the dough of their rectangular pizzas. It was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Not greasy at all and reheats nicely. My whole family enjoyed it. Wanted to try one of their rounds for comparison so I'll probably be back. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a spicier version of a pepperoni pizza(custom). Both were very good. The cheese was not overpowering, but was a little greasy. Crust had good texture and flavor. Painful to do this but I've been here at least 10-15 times so I can say this with authority. We ordered 2 pizzas. One gluten free which was perfect and the other a 1/2 and 1/2. We used to always have a slam dunk pizza, but lately Quality gone down, unfortunately. I think you are rushing through orders, not taking their time and not doing quality checks before boxing. We hardly had any sausage, pepperoni, red onion you name it and burnt crust. This place has been on my list for a while. I finally tried it last night through Uber eats. I'm am so happy that I did it was awesome. 1st of all the pizza is huge, one slice can easily be two. The crust was just right not to crunchy and not to floppy. I love a large foldable NY style slice, so this was perfect. The pepperoni's on this pie taste so good with a little kick to it, I could eat a million of those little cups of goodness. The sauce was light and flavorful a perfect pair with the pepperoni's. The cheese was that real deal mozzarella cheese very tasty. This is my wife's and I favorite pies at the moment we will be getting many more in the future. Oh this location used to be the home of Valentino's pizza. That was me and my family's favorite pizza place. This Prime pizza that took it's place is 10x better for sure. So my wife and I was looking for a pizza place near us in Playa del Rey and we were out of luck for the 20+ years we've lived in Los Angeles. We have tolerated commercial pizza joints, neighborhood pizza spots but nope nothing until today. We watched Dave Portnoy do a review on Prime and found a location near us and gave you a try. Plus My New York Giants finally won a game!!! So it was time to celebrate My children gave the approval that we'll be ordering again. At first bite my wife was like! Heard about this place from a coworker so decided to try. Tried numerous slices. The Sicilian slice, the grandma, the vodka sauce, the pepperoni, and the spicy pepperoni. Overall they were all good even with them being reheated. I'm sure they're even better when fresh. The Sicilian and pepperoni were my favorites. The only issue which wasn't too big of a deal was I felt there was a lack of professionalism from the service. They weren't rude or anything, they're were playing uncensored vulgar hip hop music which I thought wasn't too family friendly. Also, when I went to order the cashier just looked at me and said nothing, no hello no smile no nothing. After ordering I sat right in front of the cashier and literally 2 min he walked out with my slices but forgot where to go. Like he forgot who ordered this. I can understand if it was busy but it was just me and one other couple (who already had their order.) Kinda funny. We finally tried this pizza place that had been recommended to us - and we were not disappointed. We went for the square style meat lover's pizza with added pesto. It was an excellent pizza. The crust was medium thick and leaned a bit towards the chewier side. The toppings was tasty and it was definitely worth adding the pesto. Service was great - pizza was prepared well within the time promised and they have a nice warmer oven to keep the pizza fresh before you arrive. Pizza was very good and had all the flavors of Sicily. I got the square meat lovers pizza for my family and it was the perfect amount that left us with leftovers for the next day. We decided to try Prime. We typically order from Fresh Brothers, North Italia, Round Table, Little Gourmet, and occasionally, Dominos. First of all, the location is tricky. If heading north on PCH there is a very real risk of being rear-ended by fast-moving traffic on PCH. The driveways are very narrow and if someone pulling out is hogging the driveway (as was the case last night), just cross your fingers and pray. Heading south, there is a turn lane, but again, the driveway thing is sketchy. As far as ambiance is concerned, it is lacking. But, it's a pizza place, so, whatever. Now, for the service and food: I called in my order at 4:30 p.m. and asked to have the pizzas ready for a 5:30 pick-up. My order was very standard. A sausage/pep pizza and a BBQ chicken pizza with EXTRA onions and cilantro. I arrived at 5:35 and went to the counter to pick up my order. I was told it was not ready and that it would be just a few minutes. I received a text at 5:57 saying my order was ready. So, I guess it doesn't help to specify a pick up time ONE HOUR AHEAD, because the pizza will be ready when it's ready! I took a look at both pizzas and they are SERIOUSLY LACKING! Basically, almost no cheese, probably less than 1/4 of a chicken breast, very skimpy on the onions and cilantro (which I had asked for extra and was charged for extra), and finally, WAY too much sauce, as if they were trying to make up for the other lacking ingredients by drowning it in BBQ sauce! The pep and sausage pizza was also sorely lacking all three ingredients! SKIMPY TOPPINGS ON BOTH! I am posting photos of REAL pizzas we have had from North Italia, Fresh Brothers and Little Gourmet, along with pizzas from Prime. I am all about supporting small businesses! But PLEASE!
