If you like great Mexican food and good drinks, Primo's is a "go-to" Mexican joint if you're in the Dallas area. This is one of my sister's favorite places to eat and she has taken us here at least three times and each time the quality of food and drink has been consistent. We really haven't found anything on the menu that we don't like, so I think it would be safe to say that you should be able to enjoy whatever you order without concern. That being said, there are a few points I need to bring up regarding consistency with our last visit. Before I get to that though, let's talk food. Again, we really haven't had anything bad here, so order what you will! That being said though, I would highly recommend you snag an order of their tableside fajitas. I particularly recommend the steak or chicken for your choice of meat because they are at extremely tender and flavorful! I've also tried the pork belly fajitas, and although they were tender and looked delicious, in practice the flavor was fairly bland compared to the beef and chicken. The pork was also quite a bit fatty and had more skin that I was hoping for, but honestly that extra fat and skin wouldn't matter in the slightest if the pork was simply more flavorful. Their enchiladas are delicious as well and you couldn't go wrong with any of the choices on the menu in my opinion. In addition, rice and beans are fairly common as a side dish at Mexican joints, but I have to say that the simple side dish is extra delicious here and I found myself wanting more of the rice towards the end of my meal. The queso is also pretty good, but this is where the consistency is a little lacking. Each time we've eaten here the queso has been a different consistency and flavor, sometimes it's a bit more sharp, or sometimes it's just a little cold. My only point here is that I wish the Queso would be more consistent because each time it's not been as good as our first visit. The drinks are kind of the same, they've been delicious every time, but on our last visit the drinks weren't as consistent throughout the night. In addition, our last visit was a little disturbing because the entire night the kitchen staff were not wearing their masks, including the bartender. Now, we did speak to the manager, Ty, And we found out that they were a little short staffed that night and were busier than expected, which most likely had to do with the consistency of our service and the quality of our drinks. We weren't particularly upset by any of this, I've worked in the restaurant industry myself and work in retail, so we kind of figured that they were short staffed that night, so I understand and aren't really docking any points for that, but it's still worth mentioning. However, we were pretty uncomfortable regarding the staff not wearing their masks. They were only two servers who were consistently wearing their masks, but they were not our servers. Everyone else, from the bartender to the entire kitchen staff, were not wearing their masks or they were wearing them below their nose or their mouth, essentially making the mask a pointless endeavor. When we spoke to the manager about it, he said he was aware of the issue, but that he had a hard time getting the staff to listen to him regarding the mask mandate. I'm not sure if he meant that he was just having issues that evening because they were short staffed, or that this was an ongoing issue. Either way this is something I needed to mention in my review because for a lot of people this could be a deciding factor on whether or not they decide to come eat here or not. All in all though, I highly recommend coming here. We haven't had a bad experience, and overall the food has been amazing, and for the most part, so have the drinks and service experience. We know that the last time we visited might have been a bit of a stumble for this place, but at the moment it certainly will not stop us from coming here in the future! read more

A great opening weekend! It was easy to get a reservation online, and we didn't have to wait for a table once we arrived. In terms of drinks, the Marmita tasted good but was not particularly strong. The Anticuado (a Mexican-style old fashioned) was excellent. The queso was great. The beef fajitas for two were very flavorful, but the accompanying rice and beans were a bit bland. Primos has become one of our default go-to options for days when we know we want to eat out, but can't decide. While the inside is beautifully decorated, we picked up our meals this year due to Covid. The salsa is very authentic and flavorful, but often not consistent. The queso is good when it is hot. It gets very thick and crumbly when it cools down. The Enchiladas Champinones (spinach and mushroom filled with roasted corn on top) are our favorite. We recently found out that the beans are not vegetarian because they have pork fat in them. This is definitely a down side for us. We end up getting double rice, but it's not the same as having a vegetarian beans option. They declined to substitute guacamole without a significant upcharge. We placed a catering order for a small gathering, and we were impressed. We placed our order with the manager, who was very informative and helpful. Everything was packed well and ready on time. If your waiter apologizes every time he comes to the table, it's probably a good sign to get out, which is just what we did. We sat down outside and our waiter informed us he was the only server working, which we believed would be no problem at all as there were only 2 other tables dining on a slow Sunday night. But no... We ordered drinks that came after our app, but the drinks were pretty good. Our queso however was not. It tasted like store bought frozen fondue. So thick and glue like and just cheese flavor, nothing else. It would've tasted better with Bavarian sausages and crusty bread than salsa and tortilla chips! I like that the menu had good varying options like different style tacos, Impossible meat, and different enchilada sauces. But after our "queso" and slow cocktails we decided to get the check and grab our main course elsewhere. We took our time though and enjoyed them and each time our waiter came to the table, even if just to check in, he'd begin with "sorry guys." And when we said we were just going to have apps and drinks he said "Oh thank you so much. That is the best news ever," which uh... is a major turn off? But I guess I would thank him because I don't think I wanna eat here... Stick out the wait at nearby Mi Cocina or Las Palmas or go to a chain like Velvet Taco next door. read more

I've been to a few different locations over the last couple of years and was excited to discover this one made its return to Uptown. My best friend and I popped in on a slow/steady Saturday afternoon not too long ago and bellied up to the bar. After meeting Lisa (bartender), Primos has easily become a weekly 'must have' for us. She has been so friendly since Day 1, fun to catch up with, super attentive and makes THE BEST spicy (or non-spicy, if you can't handle the heat) skinny margaritas in town. I could see flies everywhere in the back through the glass windows. The churro pancakes were great ,though I was skeptical about eating them due to the swarm of flies. My girlfriend and I went here for restaurant week and it did not disappoint. I consider myself a salsa connoisseur, and the salsa passed the test for sure. We got a shrimp cocktail and carne asada fries as an appetizer. The carne asada was melt in your mouth good. For our main course, I got fish and she got carne asada.
