I've been wanting to try this place for quite a while, and even more so now that it has been rated #3 on Yelp's top 100 Florida restaurants. The long awaited visit was further prolonged by a 40 minute wait to be seated (despite having made dinner reservations well in advance). As my appetite grew, so did the expectations. I don't understand how this place has good ratings. Not only is the food mediocre, but the attitude of the manager/owner is completely out of line. Their signature dish-- the cacio e pepe, was very bad, as the pasta was completely over cooked (super mushy ). My family also had a really bad food experience. The oso bucco had a very bad tasting sauce, tasted super cheap, lacking all depth of flavor, and the pasta was also over cooked. The worst part of all was the manager's attitude toward the situation. Instead of trying to fix our situation, he was very proud, and made us feel like we were crazy for thinking the pasta was subpar. He managed to tell us that the pasta was in fact cooked well because he is "Italian" so we have to trust him.... (Eye roll) ..Terrible customer service, bad food, and super expensive. After reading the reviews I decided to take a chance and order from them via Uber Eats. I must say the food did not disappoint. I ordered the bronzino. It was juicy, briny with a hint of capers and tomato. The roasted potatoes it came with were also very delicious. We also ordered the caccio Pepe. It was creamy and full of truffle flavor. We started with the bruschetta which was served on soggy bread. Not sure if it was left sitting before served to us. For dinner, I ordered the cacio e Pepe which was ok. The pasta was already prepared in a skillet which they then dump on the Parmesan wheel. Not sure why, if it's just to make customers think they are getting melted Parmesan. Tasted like a bottled sauce. My husband got the carbonara pasta which he had to send back. The pancetta tasted like a reheated meat that has been left out. You're not going to listen to me because of how many good reviews there are. Because Yelp had this place in the top 5 places to eat in Florida. Because the pictures look so great. Because they have a big cheese wheel to toss your pasta around in. Cheese wheel. Cheese wheel. Oh my god. Cheese wheel. I know. I was you. Full of hopes and dreams of bowls of pasta, bread, and so much more. Replace the pasta with sadness and instead of dipping that bread in olive oil just swap it out with some tears. You'll have plenty of those. We arrived and were quickly seated. Had a reservation as it was Friday night but the place was pretty empty when we arrived. The waiter took our drink orders and as he was off getting those the bread arrived. You know those super thin, long, crunchy, flavorless breadsticks that nobody likes? Well you're gonna get like 2 1/2 of them. That's what we got at least. Who cares about the bread though because look we have a cheese wheel. I ate mine and with every bite just kept thinking, why does this even exist? Who likes this? The bread at an Italian restaurant is always an exciting moment. Olive Garden, Carrabbas, Pizza Hut. All of it. Way better bread. In an entirely different league than whatever this nonsense was. Some of you are laughing that I called those places Italian restaurants. If that's you then please go eat here. Order a lot. I want you to think I'm wrong and try everything. So out come the sodas which are $4.50/can because look we have a cheese wheel. A gloved man comes out and pours them for you into a stemless wine glass with a straw. He's got absolutely no fizz control so he ends up pouring like a quarter of the can into the glass before he hands it to you. I just don't know why this was a part of the experience. There are 4 of us so I've gotta watch this 4 times. Again, this guy has got NO fizz control and I've already eaten my half of the breadstick that arrived so I just have to watch this debacle. It finally ends and the waiter arrives to take our order. We opted for no appetizer as we were starting to feel that breadstick we all split and didn't want to get too full for our meals. My brother and I opted for the cheese wheel. Cheese wheel. Cheese wheel. Cheese wheel. Had to do it. I added chicken to mine. My wife ordered the lobster ravioli and my brother's wife got spaghetti and meatballs. It's all pasta on the menu so this is just what you're getting. We got a variety and had high hopes. My wife's food arrives first. She takes a bite and I could tell immediately that she wasn't loving it so I had to try it. This place has a cheese wheel so it's gotta be good. It was not. It wasn't bad but it's like 5/10. It just exists. It's just a meal you'd eat and then never mention again. The spaghetti and meatballs show up. Same vibes. I try a meatball. 5/10. It's just a thing on a plate. Who cares about their food though? This place has a cheese wheel. My chicken arrives first, served just the way they do in Italy. If you've ever been to Italy you'd know they serve over grilled, slightly hard, boneless chicken thighs on dessert plates. Ignore the chicken. We're here for the cheese wheel. Cheese wheel comes out. Things get tossed around and it looks great. Waiter sets it down in front of me. I can't even look at the pasta because I'm so confused by what this has been served on. It's just like a slab. There are no rounded edges to this thing my food is on. It's pasta sliding around on what's basically just a smaller table. Just put the pasta directly on the table if this is what we're gonna do. In a matter of seconds I've gone from being a customer at this restaurant to a severely underpaid employee just chasing this pasta around. There's nothing to stop it from falling off of this thing they've put it on. Noodles absolutely everywhere. The cheese wheel pasta is a 6/10. It's $31, $38 if you get it with the chicken, traditionally served. This is like $15 quality of pasta which is marked up to an extreme because look we have a cheese wheel. It's pasta, black pepper, truffle oil, and cheese wheel. We all finish our meals but not before my wife goes to the bathroom. She was really mean to me when she got up to go. I thought it was strange at the moment but didn't have time to address it as I was laser focused on keeping my pasta corralled. When she gets back she tells us that she had to throw up. True story which is just the cherry on top of this adventure. Besides all that though everything was great. This place just shoves a cheese wheel in your face and we all fall for it. We skip dessert because why even try anything else at this point. It was all too expensive and on the way home we got McDonald's and Jeremiah's Italian Ice. Spent like $9 on all of it and it was way better than cheese wheel. Just don't do it guys. Please. read more
