Public Storage - Take 2 I played phone tag with a PS district manager for a week before finally speaking with him today. I explained my situation without expecting much empathy. I mean I signed a contract a year ago that states rents are month to month. There's no reason to budge on their side. I was a day late in vacating my space. My point to them is that it's a customer policy that would not endear their customers to them. After a bit of PS-splainin' about their policy, they offered me half off my rent for March. I appreciate the offer, but that's not the point. I've been in retail/customer service for 34 years. I've been in front of happy and unhappy customers on Christmas day at 5pm. I know what that kind of interaction can do to a customer/retailer relationship. This relationship is precarious enough without an unreasonable and rigid policy straining it. My question to them was who bore a more financial burden in the grand scheme of things? Is losing $376 more stressful to the customer, or the company? Would prorating the rent damage the company, or insure a happy customer experience? Which is more profitable in the long run for Public Storage? What is more important to PS? I do appreciate the fact that PS reached out to me and eventually offered me a compromise solution. But I didn't keep the storage unit through the end of the month because I didn't want them to say I am still occupying it. I didn't take their offer because I didn't want to compromise my position. Public Storage, you may think your policy is in the company's best interest, but it's a customer service nightmare. There are plenty of storage companies to choose from. Why would you give a potential client a reason to go elsewhere? Maybe you make it up in volume, but imagine how your profits could increase by treating your exiting customers like you give a damn? #publicstorage read more

I was given informative information from Helena - who knows me well - and after buying a new lock, I was met at my unit and helped to make sure it went in right and I was told to separate the keys to ensure more chance of not losing them both - as I have in the past!. The rudest people i have ever met. I must have hit the lady before lunch which she hasn't missed too many of They wanted a 2 day notice before i moved out which i did and have email showing that they recd the notice and still billed me for the next month and said if not paid would take legal actions.. I would have not taken the unit but needed one that day but would have rathered used a shopping cart than deal with these pcs of garbage. There are plenty of other storage places and i should have read the other reviews 1st....hopefully you will !!!! Last week, I put in an online hold for a unit to move into on 11/3, since I have to clear out a room in my house. Got there right at the agreed-on move-in time. The staff was very friendly and very happy to help my husband and I. Helena gave us great service, was very cheerful, and very helpful as well. She gave us a complete walk through of the property, how to use the gate and elevators, as well as standard operating procedures. She even helped us find a unit close to the elevators that was perfect for our needs. This is my second time renting with Public Storage, and the service was fantastic. read more

The worst storage place ever. They raised prices twice this year and cut off open hours, now they open only until 6pm when I sign in they were open until 9pm. I would give negative stars if I could. Horrible customer service. I was promised their special online price when I called to find out what type of lock they use for the units. They called me back and leaves a message saying they use cylinder locks. Went to Home Depot and they didn't have any. So I called to see if this Public Storage location sells locks. Left 2 messages for a call back. Never received any call back. I show up to sign lease. Never discussed price since I reserved the unit knowing what the online price was. Ended up buying lock, one other item, they added one time admim fee, prorated rent for remainder of July and insurance. So I just paid what was due. I come home and read the payment email and it states next payment isn't due until 8/1/2020, but it was $20 higher than what I agreed to on the phone. I call them immediately and tell them I have a screenshot of the price that I was promised. Andrea tells me to come in the next day and talk to Daniel (the person that helped me) next day. I show up next day and what do you know, both Andrea and Daniel are off! This woman named Helena (claimed to the manager) and another younger woman there. I had to explain my whole situation again. They kept taking turns interrupting me not letting me finish then had the nerve to tell me to lower my voice (no I wasn't yelling or even speaking that loud). I had to tell them that maybe if they didn't insist on interrupting me, I wouldn't have to speak over them which makes it seem like I'm speaking louder. Helena tells me she doesn't need to see the screenshot I have. Says they need to contact corporate to see what can be done and may take 24-48 hours for a resolution. I point out I'm paying rent for a unit I not using because if they don't honor the lower price, I'm not moving any stuff in. So if they're going to honor the lower price, they need to start my rental date for when this is all resolved. Helena asked if I'm aware this a month to month rental. So? I said I want to cancel my contract since this is bait and switch. If they don't cancel my contract and refund all my money, I'll contact my CC and initiate a charge back. Helena says she needs time to contact corp and she'll sort this out. I leave thinking they're going to honor the LOWER price. I get a call about an hour later saying they're willing to cancel the contract and refund my money. Great. Now, I have to go back there AGAIN to return the stuff I bought and to process the credit. Then Helena is able to process the refund for the items I returned, but not the rental, admim fee and insurance. Says corp will do that. Well....I just got email of refund and it's $55.33 SHORT! More shit I gotta deal with. Just gonna contact my CC than deal with these LIARS. read more

This was an incredibly easy experience to get checked in and start unloading my stuff into the storage unit. Laura, the onsite manager, gave me a quick walk through and then quickly set up my account with auto-pay and that was it. Storage unit and building are super clean and the AC is always on. We chose the building with temperature control to ensure our stuff is kept well and doesn't get impacted by LA's summer heat. We've used this PS about 2-3 years ago for our mom and Had a great experience, I feel confident we'll have the same this time around. Pricing is good too. Did comparison to several different storage units (even other public storage locations as their prices vary between locations) and this place had great pricing and cool 50% off first month! Zero empathy during the corona virus pandemic. Was late for a few days and after explaining my financial situation due to said pandemic, they instead threatened to put a lien on my property. Manager at 9341 Shirley Ave was very unhelpful. Corporate manager "Pablo" also unhelpful and refused to engage my concerns. Poor customer service all the way around. There are many other options for self-storage. I will certainly use any other company in the future. read more

THIS ONE ON SHIRLEY is the FIRST Public Storage branch to NOT prorate when you move out. I just had to pay $167 for 2.5 days of storage. RIP OFF. I was charged Jan 1st and closed my account Jan 3rd and was charged $167. Complete JOKE. RENTERS BEWARE. They do NOT tell you this information upfront when every other Public Storage branch I've ever used prorates. Store your belongings elsewhere. Laura is awesome! So friendly, personable and had me in and out with my unit registration in no time! This is a profit centered business model like most businesses with typical upselling, buying specific a lock, move in fees, late fees, insurance and an arbitration clause shows their true intent! "storing" is the side job... just sell your sh*t it and save yourself the trouble! My tiny unit more than doubled in 11 months... (profit centered business) During this time unfortunately I became very very ill... the staff did their job called me, listened and were very personal. The business mode of auctioning my lifelong my personal belongings being held hostage and auctioned it outrageous and disgusting! You can feel the intent of the business by the customers racing around hopping into the elevator over me and my boxes... I had a wonderful service at Public Storage when I checked in back in Sept 2015 and when I checked out in Jan 2016. I booked a 10 by 10 storage unit, within the main building. It was on the second floor, but that wasn't a problem at all, the corridors are nice and wide and the lifts fit a large amount. Everything is clean, which what you'd expect. When I checked out Laura and Eli served me, they were friendly, polite and helpful with any questions that I had. I would use and recommend this storage facility anytime. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2019, called Public Storage to take advantage of a Fall season 1/2 off deal. Agreed to rent a 10' x 20' unit for $148 and reserved the space. Said we'd be by the following afternoon. We were assured the unit would be held for us. We arrived the next day, as promised, and the unit was already rented. My partner was furious, understandably. I asked what other unit they had at that price. There was one other. This one, though, was inside. (We'd wanted outside.) Went to see it and noted that a neighboring unit appeared to be housing someone. Yes, someone is living in the neighboring unit. We then went to look at the contract. This screaming great deal isn't a deal at all. PS states it can raise the rent at ANY TIME with 30 days notice. Total bait and switch! And, it doesn't even state the possible percentage increase!!! Allow me to add that the property manager whose name is HELENA called my partner the morning of the day we were to visit and was rude and abusive for No Reason Whatsoever. Get your act together PS of Northridge on Shirley. And, no, we did NOT rent their unit. Crooks! read more

I would highly recommend the Northridge public storage. I have had a great experience so far with the space and the customer service. I've been to other PS locations in the area and the staff isn't usually as friendly and helpful. But the staff at the Northridge PS are really nice and go the extra mile. Helena helped me with my storage needs. She was amazing and super friendly. She is very professional but still personable. Plus the spaces are well maintained and clean.
