For almost the entire time I had stuff stashed at this location, the sliding doors entering the facility were not operating correctly. They would close about 7/8 of the way and when you were exiting the facility, they opened at a snails pace after you stood in front of them for a 5-10 seconds sometimes. Now if you walk across the parking lot to their 2nd building within the same lot (built years after I was already in the other), they require a passcode to get in...only those with stuff in building 2 can get in it... So people from their 2nd building can get into the main building, since their is not a passcode and take the carts/dollies. Now you know the people in the 2nd building aren't going to return the carts to the 1st building when they are done, so it was pretty common to not be able to get a cart, as they were locked in the 2nd building. Your bill will most likely go up every year. Other than that, the building is clean and does what you need it to. Store you junk. read more

Lights do not work in restroom. I told the gentlemen at the front desk and he said "I don't know anything about that." "I'll make a note." 1 - This is the second time in 2-years I have used their restroom. Both times - lights did not work. 2 - Kind of feels like a company publicly traded on the US stock market. Minimum-wage salary attracts minimum-wage employees. But I understand Public Storage - you have to turn a quarterly profit for the shareholders. 3 - Public Storage - "We provide you the lowest possible prices! To be clear, until they told me I owe them $700 for a service they didn't provide I wasn't an unhappy customer. They did raise the rent often, their elevators were often broke, and there were several robberies throughout my time there. But the staff was friendly and they kept the restrooms clean and I wasn't too concerced about any of those things. So I stayed. But I moved out of California in July, cleared my unit of all my things over the weekend, and called them that Monday to cancel my service. Now, I did make a mistake, I was debating if I should leave my lock on or off, but I remember them telling me if I ever lost my key they could cut it off, so I figured might of well leave it on. But when I tried to cancel, they said I have to be in person for them to cut the locks. I said I can't be in person, I'm 2500 miles away, so the solution was that in two months they can put a lien on my (non-existent) belongings and cut the lock and I will stop being charged for their services then. This was the literally manager by the way the way. I'm happy to give at least one star, because I'm sure in the fine print they did mention they couldn't cut the locks when I signed the contracts the few years before, and I completely understand why the workers wouldn't break that policy. But it does show the difference between a company that appreciates their customers and are willing to work toward a solution versus a company like Public Storage. read more

It might have just been a one time thing but today I had an appointment at 1pm, I left work and got there at 12:58 and no one helped me until 1:40. I was planning on moving during my hour long lunch break but 40 minutes of that was spent waiting. I would have possibly understood if I didn't have an actual appointment, what's the point of making an appointment if they aren't expecting you and can't help check you into your unit for that long. Moving is already stressful and this made it worse and was really disappointing. Plus their rates aren't any less than other places I explored. A very simple litmus test for anyone browsing these reviews: Take a look at how short and generic the 5-star reviews are, then look at how long, detailed and specific the 1-star and 2-star reviews are. Having witnessed how horrible this place is I can see how fake the 5-star reviews are; they are obviously paying people to write 5-star reviews for them. This is my story, and I know most of it has to do with PublicStorage company's policies as a whole but my experience was also specific to this location: I had previously used PublicStorage on the east coast for eight years. Public storage raised my rent so often that by the end of eight years my rent was more than 4x what it was when I started with them. Jaded, I didn't see any reason to switch companies when I moved to San Diego so I originally made a reservation with the PublicStorage location down the street with their "first month for $1" deal, I also mistakenly thought that I might be recognized for my more than eight years of paying rent on time. I moved out of my storage unit in Baltimore and drove all of my stuff in a moving truck to San Diego. When I arrived at PublicStorage they had me about to sign the rental agreement when I noticed that my rent was not $1. The people behind the counter told me that it has to have been more than 7 days since I last checked out of a PublicStorage facility in order to enter into a new agreement for the $1 promotion, even though they never brought it up prior to giving me papers to sign.They said this was because people would move their stuff from unit to unit to continue receiving the $1 promo and since it only took me 5 days to drive across the country, I was not eligible. It seems that they DID recognize that I had previously been a valued on-time customer of more than eight years but used this information to my detriment despite the fact that I was legitimately and permanently changing locations having moved 2000miles. PublicStorage employees are drones that do not care about customers and blindly enforce stupid policies from this faceless corporate giant of storage businesses. I was so irritated by predatory nature of this company's policies and by the uncompromising, unreasoning nature of the employee workforce that I took my belongings to a mom-and-pop storage business down the street which was refreshingly better in every way. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE = 1 star I agree with Ron and Aaron. Obviously their counter personnel are trained by corporate to use shady tactics. I had never rented a storage unit before and was not aware of the following: 1. When I was setting up my account in the office, I was told I had to carry insurance through Public Storage's affiliate. The clerk presented it in a way that suggested it was not optional. I know in some states, apartment complexes can legally require their tenants to carry insurance so the sales pitch didn't seem too far fetched. I said I had homeowners, but was told I needed their insurance as well. It just seemed wrong to me, so I kept asking if it was required or optional, and finally the clerk acknowledged their insurance wasn't a legal requirement. 2. You don't have to use the lock they tell you to buy from them. FACILITIES = 3 stars Overall clean, excellent climate control, spacious for the price. Bathroom in my building had overflowing trash with bugs crawling around in bathroom. Never saw bugs or other creatures anywhere near the storage units. read more

I went into this Public Storage this week with one of my good friends who had reserved a unit online and asked me to help her move her things in. When we saddled in we were immediately greeted by a lady named Stephanie and the manager Anthony. I have a 6 and 7 year old who also came with us, while my friend was filling out all the appropriate paperwork, they started getting bored and getting a bit hyper, after noticing my frustration to keep my kids behavior from getting out of hand, the "Amazing Stephanie", came up with the perfect solution and gave each of them some paper and pen so they could draw while they waited! Customer service is What I feel makes one store stand out from the rest and this one's got some of the best I've ever seen. I currently have a storage unit at a StaxUp facility but just made a reservation to move my things into PS - Pacific Heights! See you guys soon! read more

My friend had to suddenly leave town and I volunteered to help her with both her moving her items in and out of storage over a course of a year. Every one of my experiences here were smooth and friendly. We ended up loosing the key during the year and the manager helped cut the lock for me when the locksmith was a no show. They really went above and beyond for me and helped with any random questions I had. If I ever get a storage unit it will probably be with these guys. read more

Prices are good. Facility is okay. PROS: Jason who helped me was great to work with and made sure I got the best unit available for my needs. They were offering 15% discounts off their already low prices if you book online and also your first month free; quite the deal. They let you access your unit till 9pm. Awesome. CONS: The unit was dusty and dirty around the edges, like it hadn't been cleaned in years. They recommended I buy a plastic sheet for covering my stuff because with the open ceilings on each unit, the units can get dusty. There is only one elevator for a gigantic building, so you may have to walk super far depending on your unit's location. A six digit code is required every time you enter the building and then again every time you go up the elevator. It's much easier at other storage places that, when driving in, a gate code is required once and that's it. UPDATE: Rating is going DOWN TO 2 STARS. I'm moving to a new company. When I showed up last week around 8pm, there was a sign that sign "Elevator broken, please use stairs". The stairs were locked and also don't allow the use of carts. Public Storage, couldn't you have emailed everyone about this? Other renters were there also upset they had brought loads of their stuff all for nothing. There is constantly trash laying around outside. The facility is dirty, looks like they haven't ever cleaned the elevators or hallways. They sent me this months bill and for the second time, they have raised my rent with no advance notice. This time it went up $12. I'm looking for a new company, excited for the move! read more

As far as Public Storage facilities go, this one needs some maintenance work. While it's disappointing that there is no climate control, I find it frustrating that the walls of the units don't reach to the ceiling; this means that my neighbor's dirty, dusty, flea-egg-ridden pet dander can just waft over onto my stuff. Additionally, the fact that the electric doors to the units don't close or work properly is troubling. There are not enough carts at the facility (yes, people probably hijacked them but in San Jose this wasn't an issue), the elevators take a few tries to register that you're an authorized user, and finally the attendants never really seem to be attending. I often wonder if they are even there. Overall this place has potential, but the owner should spend some money on maintenance... it's not like these rentals are all that cheap (and prices seem to be increasing????). I almost want to give this one star, but at least my stuff is safe... right? read more

The unit itself seems clean and up to expectations. Security code and parking has been in line with expectations. The bad = 0 stars for the business & marketing strategy behind Public Storage, which is to gauge you for money and not set honest expectations with customers. I received misleading Email Confirmations that did not mention two important things that Public Storage just happens to make money off of (what a coincidence!) (1) that I had to have a lock on my unit by day 1 (even with nothing inside) (2) I had to have insurance coverage. Why were these 2 important things not mentioned in the flood of emails I received? No answer from corporate yet. Public Storage is making it harder on their employees and customers with the misleading Email Confirmations and a "upsell first" environment". read more

Great clean storage facility. Customer service was great! They accommodate where they can! Very helpful staff as well. Using the dollies can be a situation at times I recommend renting one from Home Depot or uhaul facility to avoid the haste. Once the office closes there is no longer access to dollies. Decent facility with OK hours when it comes to access. Be aware of the small print however. "Pricing subject to change.". You may get some great offer to start off but they will increase the price year after year. I originally started at $68/month rate with auto pay discount on a 5x10 and I am now up to $100. That's over a 40% increase in only a few years. Guess they "reward" their loyal customers by gouging them. As I said before its a decent facility, so I can't knock them for that, but I will knock them for the bait and switch tactics! read more

Everyone here is very helpful, concise and friendly. The facility is clean, well managed and available from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. This is a great place to store your valuables. It is insulated and climate controlled. They offer multiple floors of units at varying sizes. They have 2 or 3 handcarts available to use. There is a clean restroom and two elevators. If you sign up now, you get the first month for $1. We pay about $120 per month for a 10 x 10 space. It is really worth it if you live close by since it's easily accessible from the freeway as well. BE AWARE: The in-store price is currently $30 more PER MONTH than what's available online (14% price difference). I called the 1-800 number and was advised what the best available rate would be. SHAME ON ME FOR BELIEVING I WAS GETTING THE BEST AVAILABLE RATE!!! I guess I did get the best available "phone call" and "in-store" sucker rate. Ya know, other types of businesses will mention that other rates may be available online (especially if they are trying to promote their online business, which I'm unwittingly doing for them). Maybe I should have thought of it on my own and am just sore as hell that calling a company results in a less competitive rental price. The in-store customer care was quite good other than the fact that no mention was made of the online deal. Working on commission? Another warning. Once they have your phone number, they are pretty relentless about calling. The units are clean (units plural b/c I was shown more than one). Always able to get a cart relatively quickly. Additional fees are (1) Lock Purchase (unless you have one already) (2) Application Processing and (3) Mandatory Monthly Insurance. I think they follow the car purchase business model. Base price with absurd add ons. Just freakin' put the costs in the total amount. So, if you are thinking about renting a storage unit: do your homework -- check online, call around, then probably check online again. Get info about the various costs and features of the property offerings. From what I could tell, this industry doesn't volunteer much info; you have to ask the important questions. On principle, if I ever need to store stuff again after this current stint, Public Storage is NOT getting my repeat business. That whole FOOL ME ONCE paradigm is very much in play. read more
