Their in house restaurant Quail & Crane was just one of the options for guests, including a lobby bar and self service 24 hour snack area (that was VERY expensive-$15 for 3 bags of snacks). But overall the restaurant prices were very reasonable from drinks to food, offering mostly Asian fusion cuisine and a full bar. Their menus are all on tablets, and their staff was universally professional, kind, and efficient. Since I wasn't driving until the next day, I ordered a Grey Goose Dirty Martini and it was the perfect antidote after 6 hours on the road :) Their tomato soup was a welcoming light comfort start to a meal. I ordered the Bloomsdale spinach salad, which used crisp pork belly instead of bacon, for a hearty savory crunch, and this meal was very hearty and HUGE so it would have made for a great meal by itself. Not knowing the portion sizes until I ordered, I also had the fried rice which was easily enough to feed 3 people! On my return trip, I learned to order less, but again the gem salad was probably enough for a full meal, but I was hungry, so I ordered the fried chicken, which ended up being two meals with the gai lan and coconut rice on the side. Wow. This is the first time I was actually impressed with not just a hotel restaurant, but an AIRPORT hotel restaurant. The food was very good and the atmosphere at this place was relaxed and elegant. We had reservations, but we didn't need them because it wasn't very crowded for dinner on a Saturday night. Our first waiter was great. He was attentive and helpful when we were ordering. Because the restaurant was so slow, unfortunately he ended up leaving and the waiter who took over wasn't so great. We had to get his attention to order dessert and to sign for the meal. I ordered a dozen oysters for my appetizer and the steak with chimichurri sauce for my entrée. The oysters were delicious, and the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was grass fed beef, so it was a little bit tough, but other than that it was good. I'd highly recommend the panna cotta with boba. I wanted to order it because it looked interesting and was not disappointed. What an absolutely charming experience! I was muddled by the time I went to Quail and Crane. My flight had been cancelled, my foot was throbbing, and I had pressing matters to attend to at home that I felt put off in not being able to address. I was hungry but I didn't want to eat. I decided to be an adult, and get something to eat before adding hangry to my list. The hostess that greeted me immediately made me at ease. She cheerily greeted me and then genuinely empathized with my situation. It was nice to have a sympathetic ear. I was seated at the chef's table which was nice since it was only me and I didn't want to take up a whole table. The chef's table was counter height seating looking into the kitchen. It was a non-bar bar which made me smile. My waiter was great. He was genuine, warm, and friendly. I liked him because he was so personable. We were sat at a table in next to the window, so we had a good view of the airplanes. The server even handed us a tablet to view the menu from and each a complimentary glass of champagne. They do not offer a huge menu but still a good selection, perfect for an indecisive person such as myself. Most of the food we ordered was good. The ahi tuna that we shared so super flavorful! We also ordered another fish-themed appetizer, but we didn't like it. I forgot what the name of it was, but the coconut flavor did not pair well with the rest of the dish. My chicken katsu was well prepared and the proportion was notable. I was a little off-put by the name "monk fish," but my boyfriend really enjoyed his monk fish order, and I think that's great! Bottom line: this place is FANTASTIC and is a must try. I'd go to this place even if I wasn't staying here and that's saying something. Background: was staying at the Grand Hyatt SFO for a couple of nights and had the opportunity to frequent the Quail + Crane for breakfast and dinner. This establishment is on the 3rd floor of the building and has large windows overlooking the tarmac and Bay Area. Very nice views for both sunrise and sunsets. The restaurant capitalizes on natural light coming from these windows and it hits every seat/table just right. Food: I had the spam fried rice for breakfast and the pork fried rice to-go for dinner. Essentially, they are the same except for the protein and huge shiitake mushroom for the pork fried rice. For me, the food was 4/5 because of all the sodium but the appeal/aesthetic presentation was spot on! The rice was cooked perfectly, the egg was a great over-easy/medium and the carrots/vegetables that accompanied it made every bite delicious. Customer-Service: from hostess to waiter-m to kitchen staff that you can see in the back... all were excellent and very friendly (genuinely). The service in the morning was quick and they checked on you frequently to ensure you had everything you need and your drinks were filled. I ordered coffee and juice in the morning with my breakfast and that is included with the meal "IF" you are a Hyatt Globalist with a meal-voucher. Gratuity was also included but does not stop you from adding additional if you thought their service warranted it, which in my case it absolutely did! The lunch menu was not many food choices but I heard they have more selections for dinner including sushi. To start we ordered the steamed edamame. We asked for pork dumplings & we were told they served it for dinner. After 15 minutes, the server said their kitchen can make it for us. We ordered 2 orders dumplings and they were appetizing. I ordered hearth roasted dungeness crab cake, my husband ordered the baby iceberg salad, my daughter ordered the vegan fried rice and my son in law ordered the chicken burger with fries. The restaurant is located on the third floor of the hotel, and it's really built to be a high-end restaurant much like how they hotel is represented. They were delicious, but in my opinion, a bit small. Typically, the oysters are bigger for most places. Nevertheless, he was delicious and very fresh. My mother had this pan seared scallops. Well, quail + crane is both - on the third floor of the Grand Hyatt SFO and it doesn't feel like either an airport restaurant or a hotel restaurant. Dominic, our server, was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable and quite honest - a nice trait for a server - telling us when we would be over ordering and what he personally liked and didn't like. He was also very considerate, asking how we'd like to course out our food items and whether we wanted specific toppings and such. The actual food was delicious. The hand picked lettuces (yes - the only one mistake in our entire meal is that they didn't catch that lettuce plural is also lettuce) was a bit all over the place, but it was delicious. And the standout was the duck confit pasta, which was so good. The scallops and the hamachi were also tasty! I love that there's something for everything. If you're about to head off to a flight, this is the place for you to binge and then pass out on the plane. From the moment I made the reservation with manager Mikaela and mentioned that it was for a special occasion, the entire team went above and beyond our expectations to make our night special. Our server Flora was amazing and even sous chef Leif dropped by our table. I've been staying in this hotel every month during covid and was so excited when the restaurant had finally reopened. They give you an iPad menu so you can click on photos and read descriptions of each dish. The menu is limited due to the pandemic and needing to stock less ingredients while maintaining fresh quality. I got a bunch of small bites/appetizers as my meal and was sooo satisfied. The raw oysters are fresh and I absolutely love the preparation of their seasonal crudo. It was so bright and perfectly balanced with a touch of Asian flavors. In fact, I loved it so much, I ordered another plate of it! I was so excited to go back the following month. I got the crudo again. This time was a different fresh fish but the preparation was the same. I also tried the summer tomato burrata salad which was delish! If a menu has crab cakes I'm ordering them, and these were among the best I've had. Tons of plump crab, just the right amount of breading and a genuinely delightful texture. I liked the sauce that accompanied them. I chose the vegetarian pasta as my main course and my dining companion had the seafood pasta. Both were presented beautifully and cooked just at the edge of al dente. The veggie pasta was exceptional. The addition of oyster mushrooms really made it feel more substantial. Day one was appetizers, such as short-rib and pastrami Chinese buns, which is newly added to the menu. Another treat, was the Ramen fried quail, which is a namesake of the restaurant and the State of California. I closed out with their croissant bread pudding, which uses day old bread for a fantastic and semi sweet dessert. We enjoyed sushi roll starters of fresh fish and artful veggies, all portioned generously. Followed by two entrees: Chicken Katsu and a grill trumpet mushroom laden Fried Rice and Omelette dish. Everything was delicious and filling. But what makes this destination restaurant so special is the service: from a knowledgeable sommelier to the attentive but not overly fussy wait people, we were cared for in a timely manner, not rushed but also never neglected. I have eaten here four times now and every meal is incredible, and for an airport hotel restaurant, truly unbelievable. The hotel is lovely in every way, miles beyond the alternatives. But the restaurant is one of the reasons I stay here whenever I have a morning flight. Tonight had the lobster miso bisque, and the seared scallops, and I don't think I've had better versions of either in a decade. The scallops and the lobster were as tender as they could ever be and the flavors were amazing. Service and ambience is great too. They have wines by the glass that you normally must pay for a bottle - and a first rate twist on a Paper Plane if you're a cocktail person.
